Coconut cream Vietnamese coffee with coffee jelly
    Erica W K.

New cafe in the Financial District! We went because there was a big hype! We heard that they're the same owner as the matcha place down the street so we gave it a try. We went on a weekend afternoon and there was no line at all. The place is tiny, so there aren't a lot of space to sit and chat. It's more like order and go style. I got the signature Vietnamese coffee and the coffee jelly. The drink itself was good, but I don't think it's worth the almost double digit price. The 3 star is really for the quality at the price I got. The highlight of the drink is the coffee jelly, it's chewy and bouncy and coffee forward.

So lucky to have a bahn mi spot near my office and no need to to to the Tenderloin spots for a treat. The space is cute and well designed, the ordering through kiosk is convenient and food comes fast even on a busy weekday lunch time. The grilled pork bahn me was tasty but a little dry to my taste. I loved how crunchy the roll was and the jalapeño kick. Also the packaging was so stylish! Planning on coming back and trying Vietnamese drinks next.

Brief Summary - Review for the drinks - Cafe is located at a corner, almost missed it upon walking - Ordering can be done by a kiosk - Coffee is not sour This was recommended to me by a colleague, so I went on a search. This cafe is located near a block where there are other restaurants and cafes. It's located at a corner, and unlike the other places in the street have signs, this was hidden without one hanging outside. I almost crossed the street and missed it if it weren't for me proactively searching for the egg-shaped chair near the window. It was my semi-morning commute, so the cafe just opened and I was their first customer. I ordered two iced Vietnamese coffees from the kiosk; the egg cream one. The wait wasn't long, but there was time to sit at the egg-shaped chairs. Once that staff called me over for the drinks, they let me know how to drink it. Since the top has egg foam, they suggested to mix the drink first before consuming. I think the layering was there for great photo opportunity, but for that strange reason that day I forgot to take a photo of it. I haven't drank many Vietnamese coffees in my life, but this one was pretty good. I was expecting it to be sweeter, but it was just right. It was also sweet enough to drink in the morning. For someone who drinks a 2-3 cups of coffee a day, this day this was enough to keep me powered up. I also liked the surprise coffee jelly pieces at the bottom of the cup.

Cà Phê Muối: Salted Cream Viet Coffee w/ coffee jelly ($8)

2.5 STARS Cà Phê Việt's branding and "vibes" are on-point with the swinging egg chairs. Great for photo ops. If you like the dogs, the resident doodle can often be seen living its best life on the swinging chair. Opening in April 2026, Cà Phê Việt is from the owner(s) behind Nagomi (matcha). They're one of two shops in the city getting into the Viet coffee craze so they've been popping off on socials. Great for those who can't trek to San Jo. They're a bánh mì and cà phê sữa đá shop. Takeout only, no delivery. There's two benches to wait for your order. Unfortunately, I had similar experiences to other not so favorable reviews. There's a sign to place your order at the kiosk but if you're paying cash, you can order up front. When using the kiosk, a "convenience fee" is charged. This is the first I've seen which I assume is to offset kiosk maintenance costs. I rather they build this into their menu prices. D R I N K * Cà Phê Muối: Salted Cream Viet Coffee w/ coffee jelly ($8): https://tinyurl.com/3pmns5df Not mine but I had several sips for taste. The cà phê sữa đá tasted diluted, not as robust and strong as Viet rocket fuel should be. The salted cream foam was thin, watery, and tasted like frothed condensed milk...there was no salt to offset the sweetness. F O O D * Bánh Mì Đặc Biệt: Combo Cold Cut w/ extra pate ($15.95): https://tinyurl.com/6xvdjj8a I don't mind paying $$$ for a bomb bánh mì but this felt overpriced for the taste and quality. RIP to Charles Phan. At his bánh mì shop, you get double the protein and everything is housemade including the baguette for a similar price point. - Baguette: Long, soft and chewy with no crumb. I prefer a baguette with a thin, crackly-crispy crust. - Filling: One note: salty. The chả, viet ham, headcheese, and pâté were salty and the veggies weren't pickled enough to add an acidic bite. Seemed like the normal smear of pâté, not extra. They use regular white mayo so it lacked umami. S E R V I C E Their kiosk is buggy...it assigned a wrong name to my order ("Lucy") and no receipt printed. This caused a long delay, and back and forth with the staff before they finally realized my order was "Lucy's". A M B I A N C E Cute takeout spot for your socials. Overall, given the lack of Viet eateries in FiDi/SoMa, Cà Phê Việt may fill that void for those who work in the area. Two stars, adding .5 stars, and rounding up for a local small business.

Such a great local gem! Love that it appears to be family run too Egg cream coffee - the whipped egg cream is soo delicious!! Pairs wonderfully with the rich and deep vietnamese coffee Banh mi - also delicious and great portion sizes! They're maybe slightly more expensive than other places but they're also longer than the typical place. Would definitely recommend grabbing something and walking nearby to the Salesforce park to enjoy!

3 stars for the small portions relative to price, 1 star for having decaf options! The inside of this cafe is cute. You order from a tablet and there's ample seating. We waited a little bit for our orders. I got an ube cream coffee and my friend got the black sesame coffee, and we thought the drinks were pretty good. I didn't think the ube taste was that strong, but it was more noticeable than other ube coffees I've had. The coffee jelly was surprisingly very flavorful and probably the best part of the drink. I ordered my drink as decaf, so I can't speak to the taste of their regular coffee, but it's really nice to have a decaf option for the days you want the taste of Vietnamese coffee but can't handle the caffeine. The portion is pretty small for the price. At other Vietnamese coffee places, for $8.50 you'd get a cup that is 50% larger than this place's cups. They also fill the cup with ice. I appreciate that this place is unique among the many boba and matcha places around the financial district.

Small cafe serving up some really great sweet coffee drinks. They also have a few tasty food items. Plus a resident poodle, often napping on a chair. Coffee with Egg Cream: Ever since I visited Hanoi, I've been obsessed with egg coffee. It's so hard to find here, so I was hyped to learn this place was serving it. They don't serve it with warm coffee, but rather over iced coffee that also has some coffee jelly. I was encouraged to mix it all together. While it was nice and sweet, the experience was off a bit. Probably better to sip, without mixing, so the coffee passes through the egg that is right against your mouth. Also, the coffee jelly was kinda random since the pieces were too big to easily find their way into your sips. Ube Iced Coffee: Very creamy and very ube tasting. Like the ube flavor mostly overpowered the coffee flavor, which is kind fun. Also, such a beautiful bright purple. Grilled Pork Banh Mi: Huge, for a banh mi. Almost getting to Subway sized. The bread was a nice chewy baguette roll. Lots of cilantro, pickled veggies and mayo. The pork has a good marinade, but it wasn't really "grilled". I didn't see any grill marks and it felt a bit mushy. Ube Waffle: Had a really nice chewy mochi-type texture. The flavor was sweet, but not too sweet. Loved the subtle ube and coconut tones. Looked really cool and purple too.

I was excited to check out this new Vietnamese café in the SoMa/FiDi area. Walking into the café felt like stepping into Vietnam. They definitely nailed the decor, which mimics the third spaces I visited in Vietnam. However, they didn't execute the food and drink offerings to the standard I'm accustomed to. I ordered an egg coffee and chicken banh mi from the in-store kiosk. The egg coffee was not mixed well, so the coffee overpowered the egg foam. The coffee jelly at the bottom of the beverage was a nice addition. Altogether though, the drink felt disjointed. The chicken in the banh mi was extremely salty. It's as if the only seasoning used was salt, so the banh mi exclusively relied on it to carry the flavor of the sandwich. The only redeeming quality of the banh mi was the baguette, which was fresh and soft. Overall though, the sandwich was a miss. Suffice it to say I would not order either item I got from Cà phê Việt again.

I stumbled on this new vietnamese cafe and it seemed like they were still in soft opening as they were setting up the kiosk. I heard the owners also run Cafe Nagomi nearby and are setting up a coffee shop here specializing in Vietnamese coffee. I grabbed a classic viet iced coffee and asked for less condensed milk which turned out to be the perfect level of sweetness for me. The viet iced coffee is stronger than your average coffee so be warned it can be quite strong. I enjoyed the coffee jelly which adds a nice texture and more coffee flavor without being as heavy as boba. It is a bit pricey for coffee but that's expected downtown and I was excited to see it as there aren't any viet coffee spots in the city.

Some streets can be very confusing to a visitor of San Francisco. Montgomery street is one one of those confusing streets in San Francisco. When a tourist ask me where is Montgomery I said what are you seeking . They are asking for 104 Montgomery street where the Walt Disney Museum is located. I point them towards the Presidio around Crissy Field. I know some tourist who actually went to 104 Montgomery only to find a 25 story building on 100 Montgomery past the cross street of Sutter. You can also find Montgomery street below Coit Tower . The Financial District's Montgomery street also continues to New Montgomery street. In search of good sandwich there are many different styles to choose. There is a place which is new on New Montgomery and it's serving French influence baguette Vietnamese style sandwiches Banh Mi and it's called Cà phê Việt. On a Spring stroll on Montgomery street walking down New Montgomery on these San Francisco street there is a new place to grab Vietnamese style sandwich Banh Mi . This place is called and uses the English loan word for coffee called Cà phê Việt. Inside the decor felt like you stepped into a garden . I ordered the five spice chicken Banh Mi and it was so delicious. The baguette was so fresh and soft and the chicken was so tender and it meshed well with all the vegetables and had a crunch with the carrots. I then washed it down with purple yam also known as the Ube Cream Coffee. It had a smooth Ube cream taste and a very refreshing coffee. Overall you must make a pit stop if you are on New Montgomery on your way to Montgomery street. When it comes to Montgomery I don't know where to "start "is it by the Golden Gate Bridge or is it the Montgomery train station for Muni or "BART"at least I know my different Montgomery streets "apart" because I know the San Francisco streets right and left by "heart" The streets of "Montgomery"is a complex one if you do a San Francisco stroll and a "discovery" but what you find on the path are some Banh Mi and delicious is my "summary "and also tasty coffee at Cà phê Việt on "121 New Montgomery "

4.5 stars I haven't really seen any spots serving egg cream viet coffee in the city so when I saw it on the menu, I had to try! Tbf I don't think I've had one before to compare, but I thought it was a nice, strong coffee with slightly sweet and custardy flavor. They also sell banh mi, which did take a few minutes for them to prepare but I guess that's a sign that it was made fresh to order. It was decent with a good amount of filling. The bread was lightly crispy with a soft center. Service was friendly. The interior was cute but I don't think they're done setting up, looks promising though!

Stopped by this newly opened Vietnamese café and placed a phone order due to a tight schedule, really appreciated that they were able to accommodate orders over the phone. The space itself is small but charming, and they also have a kiosk for ordering in-store. I ordered the salted cream iced coffee with coffee jelly. Unfortunately, they had run out of the coffee jelly and I wasn't informed over the phone, which was a bit disappointing. When I arrived, my sandwich was ready, but the coffee wasn't prepared yet. They mentioned they wanted to make it fresh rather than letting it sit, which I did appreciate. The drink itself was strong and flavorful, leaning more on the bitter side, so it's great if you prefer a less sweet coffee. I'm curious how it would've been with the coffee jelly. I also tried the pork banh mi, which was the biggest letdown of the visit. It had very little meat and didn't quite justify the $13 price point. I was still hungry after. (see pic for ref) Also wanted to try the combo banh mi but looks like they don't have it ready yet either. That said, since they just opened, it feels like they're still working through some early kinks. I'm on the fence about returning, but I did notice they offer durian soft serve, which definitely has me intrigued enough to potentially give them another shot.

Came in with high hopes and left with big disappointment. Finally a Vietnamese coffee spot near FiDi. Ordered the salted cream. Got the coffee and it seemed to be missing the salted cream top like their photo. Tried it and couldn't taste any saltiness. I asked to confirm they made the correct thing for me and they said they did but could add more salted cream. They did and from what I saw, the cream was not a foam but liquid. Tasted again and no saltiness. Would've come back to try the black sesame drink but probably will pass now.

The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.
