I'm done with optimum. was exchanging modem, was given a SIM card for my cell phone to lessen my bill. Told Michael I have Verizon...no problem, just keep the SIM card and your bill will be less. then I was billed $16.90 on my credit card, but given a discount on my optimum bill. Long story short, they turned off my land line. Total 7 trips to riverhead store, numerous calls to tech. Still nothing. SO I purchased one Roku tv, which runs on Wi-Fi. Will be returning 5 cable boxes with dvr, cancelling my landline (MAGIC JACK Works). Keeping internet for now. All they want to associates in riverhead try to do is sell you something. I live in Hampton Bays, and I was actually hoping that negative numbers would be provided so I could actually rate this mendacious operation what it deserves. I live in a complex where (quite unfortunately) optimum is all which is available. I have called, and supposedly, made agreements with (MUCH LESS THAN) OPTIMUM close to half a dozen times, regarding pricing. I am an elderly man living alone, subsisting on just under $900.00/month. Each time, after finally speaking with a so-called supervisor, I was guaranteed a price which I could almost afford. Every single time it never lasted more than one single month, then the pricing would begin to escalate to the initial price I had called about over only a couple/few months. Each time I called back to "remind them" of this agreement, I was told that, "We have no record of this agreement." When I explained that I had a recording of the call, they simply ignored this. This company absolutely NEVER MAINTAINS ITS AGREEMENTS. I just yesterday called to cancel my television, which the representative FINALLY agreed to, and I supposedly will pay for just internet at the rate of $45.00/month, (also supposedly) guaranteed for one year. I HIGHLY DOUBT this will even last one month, after reading some of the reviews previously submitted. I intend to update this review upon my next receipt of billing. This operation embraces the epitome of deceit. Metaphorically it is as if a Lamprey has attached itself to both your wallet and your soul, and after sucking out all the money available, it's as if they begin extracting your life energy. Why? Because you intuitively know that whatever was promised to you was simply fantasy based on your personal wishful thinking, however optimum has other plans in mind for you. Slow intermittent internet at all levels and since Altice took over the customer service is non existent. Hours on hold and then they hangup on you. When you finally get someone they pass the buck and you wait again. It seems like no one is in charge. The tv programming is no better: first they give you the channels then they take them away. I would give zero if possible. They are the absolute worst of any "business " I have ever dealt with. They lie and overcharge you. I set up three service appoints and they never showed up for the first two. So I had to go through the entire process of trying to reach a person and wait all over again. I wish there was another option in LI. Optimum, Cablevision or Altice One, whatever they call themselves are terrible. They must keep changing their name so we may think it is a different company. Cablevision Co. On Long Island, NY is the absolute worst company to deal with! It is impossible to speak with a live person and you get caught in a vicious circle. When leaving my number for a call back, I get no call back. Even two days later, I've received no callback. I registered for seasonal suspension and am being billed for the regular fee for service! Cablevision has lost its way. As a 30 year customer, I went to add service to another residence. At the Cablevision store I was told there was no promotion I was eligible for in person, BUT if I went online I could get one. There is loyalty for you. Feeling snubbed, I still, out of brand loyalty, got 2 new cable boxes for service. I got them home and both do not work! I live on the East End of Long Island. Cablevision is a monopoly here as they have fought not to allow fiber to extend east of Patchogue. I hear it is getting closer though. Either way, Cablevision is the only game in town except for streaming TV. You would think that they would try to keep their 30+ year customers instead of jerking them around, giving them bad equipment and not offering some incentive. I have lost all faith in them, they will continue to be eaten up by satellite and streaming services and they will die the same death as other 'too big to fail' companies that lost touch with their customer base. read more

Worst company on the planet. The customer service is beyond awful. Takes time to be connected and the reps don't know anything and cannot speak English. The fees most of which are arbitrary and just so they can make millions keep popping up on the bill. It is fair to say that if there were other choices I would jump at the chance to switch companies. Been waiting on a phone number porting in for 2 months, customer service doesn't know what they're doing, the most recent piece of news I received is that they scheduled a technician appointment which I first needed, then I didn't, then I did again, without knowing, then they never even called to say they weren't showing up. THEN CUSTOMER SERVICE HANGS UP while researching the account. I have placed 30 calls to Optimum to have this finished. The absolute worst company out there. Worst, period. A great, great example of how competition is required to balance a market and ensure accountability amongst its providers. Prices go up, service goes down. How far can the gap widen? I've been trying to get in touch with optimum for weeks on end. They hang up the phone and don't let you speak to any representatives. The absolute worse provider on earth. I hope the streaming services put these bullfrogs out of business completely. The internet is horrific, it works when it feels like (sort of like the employees). The Altice boxes forget about it. Why am I even paying these absurd bills? Nonstop error messages, various channels do not come in and on the weekends forget it. I can't watch a single program. I have never seen such BS in all my days. I've called and called and called, only to be bounced around from one incompetent person to the next. You schedule a call back 48 hours later no one calls. The service has been decent, but the bills just keep getting higher. Our recent bill was almost $83 for just a phone line and internet, no cable TV. The sad thing is that there seems to be no real alternative, as all of the providers in my area seem to have one-star ratings. read more

Like several other reviewers I have had awful service from Optimum, and they are extremely expensive for what they provide. I have a summer house and had to call several times (each taking 1/2 hr or more to get someone on the line) to get summer service with support for my alarm system-which they promised. Now I have sold the house and went to the Bronx store to return the equipment. The line was around the corner. I gave up. Optimum is a monopoly in several places. The owner is (or was) the same guy who owns the NY Nicks. They are equally terrible. Next week I will drive out to Riverhead to try returning the stuff there. Stay tuned for my experience. read more

Purposely incompetent. It took 27 minutes to switch to a seasonal rate for our summer home. I was put on hold 5 times after being asked simple questions like my address or whether my phone has an alarm. The horrific customer service has to be on purpose. May recent experience with cable vision has been a night mare. My husband died two yers ago. I decided three months ago to downgrade my services because I rarely watch television. In order to do this I was told that I would have to change the service to my name from his. I have moved tens of thousands of dollars from his name to mine and chased in insurance policies with far less trouble. I needed to provide a death certificate and numbers on the cable box that I could not reach without help despite the fact that surely cable vision has the serial number of the box on record. I finally had to disassemble my entire set up to find the number on the bottom of the box. I am setting off today to the Southampton office for the third time and hope that it will work. I am not sure how I will be able to reassemble the cable system but I will worry about that later. The service in the Southampton office is abominable. The person that I have spoken to there seems to delight in telling you that you have brought the wrong information. It pains me to tell you that there is no other vendor of any kind of service that I deal with that is this bad. How do you continue to exist? While I am sure there are a few very nice people at Cablevision, I also believe that they employ some of the most rude, disrespectful representatives I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I do believe that my current appointment which was made by the agent spanning a period of 10 AM to 8 PM, rather than a tighter window, was is made purely by spite by the agent I was speaking with. At one time after speaking with a representative, customers were given a survey with questions asking about how we were treated, how knowledgeable the representative was, and how satisfied we were with his or her performance. That survey was not available to me this time when I definitely wanted to express my opinion. If there was any other possible choice for TV, Internet, and phone service, I would take that choice. I've had horrible service and then there's Optimum. I've had internet issues for 3 weeks. Finally my internet completely shut off. I go to the store and not only does the lady not apologize but they offer me no answer other then that they can send someone to me in 4 to 5 days. Without internet my thermostat doesn't work and is in "offline mode" so I've been without heat for close to 6 days in the dead of winter. I've been passed around like a thanksgiving meal with NO answers so far as to why this is happening. The technician came today and solved NOTHING and knowing this company I will be billed for it (which I'm not paying). I've been on hold for almost 2 hours at this point when I told them it was an emergency. I also work from home and risk being fired if this continues. I can't stress this enough but THIS IS NOT HOW A BUSINESS SHOULD WORK! The answer isn't "the router doesn't work, the modem doesn't work, I'm not sure sir" YOU FIND A SOLUTION! The customer service agent for Cablevision in the Riverhead, NY area was on an obvious power trip when I asked her repeatedly to cancel my service, stating "We are the only service provider in the area so where are you going to get service?" She continued to refuse to cancel when I stated that the reason was personal. I finally told her that I had a terminal illness. She still wanted to know whether I was moving or not and still did not concede to cancel my account after I told her she was causing me psychological stress. read more

The worst service that can be. Paying $70 for 100 bits per second getting about 35 to 50 with a direct connection. They need to refund my money this is been going on for almost a year. And Riverhead town does not want to let FiOS come in obviously someone is getting their Palm greased.
