#7 Best Steak Burrito, #9 Chicken Burrito, #1 Just Fish Tacos with buttermilk ancho & cilantro tortillas, chips & queso
Julia C.

If you're looking for a tasty upgrade to chipotle look no further! Burritos, tacos, nachos, bowls. They have preset menu items you can order if the create your own option feels too overwhelming. Regardless Cabo bobs hits the spot every time! The fish tacos are my go to, especially with their mango pico & the chipotle crema. They have an array of toppings to choose from that you can always add onto a present menu option if you'd like. Their mint sweet tea is a must and if tea isn't your jam they have freshly squeezed lemonade. The place is super casual and you get your table after you've ordered. During lunch and dinner the line can get long but it moves quickly so don't be discouraged! Same goes for the seating. If you're pressed on time you can also order take out! I'd say this is a staple for casual eats in Austin, so don't pass it up!

Wanted to give an updated review since I didn't have the best experience last time I visited. Sometimes this location has really skimped on their portioning but this time they did good! I got a good amount of rice and protein and everything tasted great as usual. It's always super busy here but they keep the line moving well!

This was our first time eating here and we were pleasantly surprised. You stand in line and view menus, which were very self explanatory, same concept as Chipotles but by far better selections as far as toppings, proteins and veggies, and their queso is delicious! We both got the brisket queso burrito that was generously tight as a tick and d. I only ate 1/4 of mine. Will definitely be back to try their bowls and other options.

As a 1st time customer, through a referral. I decided to try this place out. My experience was not good. I went at lunch time, not knowing how busy they are. With that being said, I went in with three different orders to be placed. Once again this was my 1st time here. When placing my order I wasn't met with any smiling faces. I was met as if I was cattle getting rustled . I told them that it was my 1st time, but no empathy was shown. I was rushed and felted as if I was a inconvenience to the people working the line. I showed them the orders that my Co workers requested. All the orders were missing something. I felt completely stupid and felt that I wasted $37.00 . The portions were small in the steak bowl. I would recommend that if you have a customer who tells you that it's their first time at your establishment, that you all be kind and not rush them and make them feel like they're a problem.

Another pick for our celebratory week at work! I got steak and brown rice with pico. It was pick up and we ate at work. Great healthy choice for me.

Went here for a quick lunch after visiting the Austin Aquiurum with a friend and two little babies. The line goes by super fast, and I love how their tortillas are made fresh to order right in front of you. I got the chicken bowl with their Baja bean and cilantro crema sauce. Everything was so flavorful and so fresh. It's like an elevated version of Chipotle with better options and far more flavorful ingredients. I will for sure go back to try more menu items.

The line's pretty long but goes fast so that's good. The fish tacos were pretty good except the mangoes were a little tasteless. Not sweet, not sour, simply no taste. The rice in the burrito was too overpowering, too much and also bit too al dente for my liking.

#5 Pork Burrito

burrito making skills? 12/10! after 3 years in austin, i finally made it to the infamous cabo bobs. there was a full line, but it moved pretty quickly! i did not know they made their tortillas in house so that was super cool! i normally never get burritos and go straight for a rice bowl but i was told I must give the burritos a chance. i got pork and added almost every topping/condiment they offered. I was betting that my tortilla was going to break when they wrapped it all together but to my surprise, they wrapped my XXL burrito up easily. Now lets talk about taste, the pork was tender and juicy, sauces were flavorful and unique. I liked the ranch and hot sauce. All i can say is, I get the hype now. Chipotle is NOTHING compared to cabo bobs. if you're wanting good portion sizes and cheap food, give cabo bobs a try

Fried fish burrito (smoky cheddar and cilantro tomatillo tortilla)

I've heard so many good things about Cabo Bob's and I was so excited to finally try it. And my expectations were more than met. I love that you can choose what flavor tortilla you want and it's literally made right in front of your eyes. You can even choose more than one flavor and they'll combine it for you. Everyone's always told me to get the fried fish, which I did. It was delicious day of, but then if you have leftovers, I feel like it doesn't save as well so the fish does get a bit on the dry side. If you're planning to have leftovers, maybe pick another meat. You can customize whatever ingredients you want inside and they do not skimp at all, these burritos are huge. I was able to get two very filling meals out of one burrito. The chips and queso are also so good. And they actually give enough queso for you to dip all your chips generously with. Not to mention, it's actually pretty cheap here. Especially when you compare it to like chipotle and especially if you can get more than one meal out of it.

We stopped by Cabo Bob's for dinner this evening on our way to an event at the HEB Center in Cedar Park. First time there, selection recommended by the grandkids. It was good! The place is a "walk-through order what you want and walk down the line as it's prepared" place, which is good and bad. It's slow. The biggest problem we had was the 1/4 plexiglass shields separating us from the employees which made communication tedious. For first-timers there, things were not instinctual, where are the napkins, where is the silverware, etc. We managed... The food was very good... chips and queso, just to try it... chips were nice and crisp, the queso good and hot. The fish tacos were to die for, fish fried perfectly (although it took 15 minutes to get the tacos), and the veggies, guac, and cabbage in the tacos were good, and the three tacos each had a different flavor of Cabo Bob's tortillas, all of which were good. Other members of the group had the steak burrito, the chicken burrito and a "do it yourself" burrito. I tasted the beef burrito, so I can vouch for that. It was good. The brown rice seemed a bit under-cooked, but not a fatal flaw. The other burritos were reported to be good as well. Brief comment on the two sauces available... we preferred the regular 66 Hot Sauce, the 66 Smokey Habanero sauce wasn't much different. Not sure where you'd go to get real heat at Cabo Bob's if you're a hot pepper fanatic, like me! LOL For what it is, Cabo Bob's is a good deal... good food, decent price... for what it is (a walk-through make your burrito place), it holds its own. We'd good back if in the neighborhood. The grandkids (teens) love it! Recommend Cabo Bob's!

She noticed I was ordering dairy items on side and asked about if pesto in guacamole was ok. So astute and kind of her. Also on my friends second drink remembered she didn't want salt or her rim without even asking - Everything tasted so fresh and high quality - Brisket tacos: packed with flavor--maybe it was the wagyu meat or the black magic oil. Freshly made corn tortillas were awesome. Usually corn ones and pretty throwaway meh, but these added to the greatness of the tacos. 5 stars - Duck flautas: crispy covered in mild mole. Loved the mashed potato addition inside for some mellowness and texture. 5 stars - Guacamole: so fresh and that dollop of pesto on top was lovely. Served with crispy masa dippers were impressive almost a 8x11 page size. It was fun to crack off into pieces, but hard to stop eating it. 5 stars - Sweet potato: friend loved these long charred wedges. 4.5 stars - Cocktails were stellar. I got the Don Dario which was a play on a marg and delightful - $12 of a few drinks during lucky hour (Mon-Fri 5-6pm, Sat-Sun 3-5pm) - High energy vibes in a clean, open, tan colored space - Had their bottle water on the table in a champagne bottle which speaks to my heart Midlights: - In East Austin so have to Uber if you are staying more central - Tacos come in orders of 4. Corn flour was the other option. Both meals came in pipin' hot & the smell coming from both was very aromatic, zesty & spice. Amazing taste, flavors, just the right amount of marinade on the Carneasada with a hint of lime. It was so delicious while enjoying the ambiance. So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites. Next time I will try some other delicacies since I always get tacos tacos burritos or quesadillas: time for some new items on the menu! Enjoy!

In fact, we've got an upcoming reservation that's been on the books for quite sometime. They've managed to remain delicious, relevant and in demand 50 years! That's saying something. I'll tell you what that says...it says they rule! Reservations can be tricky to get but oh so worth it. The bar & atrium are fantastic and they boast a generous happy hour. The restaurant area and entire space are decorated wonderfully. Amazing artwork adorns the walls, they've got extensive art all about, vaulted ceilings and more. It's kind of like being in a hacienda. It feels like you're in Mexico. Truly. The restaurant and food are upscale without being pretentious. How refreshing! Speaking of refreshing...they've got cocktails and mocktails that will knock your socks off. I'm a big fan of the Nojito. My boyfriend loves the Mexican martini (it's primo). Let's talk about food. Wow-wee is it everything and then some. This is the kind of Tex-Mex flavor that sends your tastebuds into a tailspin of goodness! On our visit we did a salsa flight (we did 3 salsas), the queso (melted muenster and Oaxacan), Wagyu beef tacos, and chicken verde enchiladas. We did a spread like that in order to share everything. Food so good I'd give ten stars if I could. I can't put my finger on it but there's just something so special about the food, the taste of it, and the quality. It's just incredible flavor explosion bite after bite. If I had to guess, I'd say the food has been made with love, skill, and attention to detail all these years. Hence, their amazing reputation. Service is beyond compare. Hands down some of the best I've experienced in all of my worldly travels. Fonda San Miguel (Tzintzuntzan) is a dream come true!
