The food here tasted amazing today! It was cooked fairly simply, but the flavors were excellent. They have a large menu for such a small place and we both tried something we hadn't had before. Both of our meals had beef, chicken and shrimp, but hers had sausage and a large intact grilled onion with the green stem still intact - wonderful flavor! Stopped in about 1245pm during their lunch run on a Tuesday. You can definitely tell this is a local hot spot for many people on their lunch break. Food was okay. Went in on Sunday afternoon and the service was terrible. Cashier looked like she hated being there, she did not check up on us. We ordered 4 plates and when we went to pay it was $90. We didn't think anything of it until after we were about to walk out, we left a $10 cash tip but realized we had got over charged considering plates ranged from $12-$16 so we asked for a receipt. Cashier gave herself a $14 tip on the tab without letting us know she was going to add tip. We also got charged almost a $4 "service fee". Definitely do not recommend going here. read more

Wow! can't believe I just found this wonderful restaurant! Saw the place a few weeks ago while picking up my dry cleaning, and popped in to check it out. The menu seemed very different from the typical Austin Mexican restaurant, so definitely something I wanted to try. We came in today and were blown away by the delicious food. I had the "Molcajete," a delightful mixture of incredibly savory beef, chicken, shrimp cactus slices and grilled onion served in a traditional molcajete bowl. Freshly made tortillas set the dish off to perfection. My partner ordered the Parillada, another mixed meat dish that was also very delicious. Ambiance: This isn't formal dining -- think mom/pop cafe where you won't be embarrassed to lick your fingers, a good thing because you're gonna want to! Service is prompt and attentive. Finally found authentic style Mexican food!!! We had the Al pastor and asada taco plate. Classic tacos with onions and cilantro served with rice and beans. The hot sauces also had good flavor. The Lord knows, I love me, my Pastor tacos! Looking to satisfy my Pastor taco craving, I never would have dreamed that a lil ol' taco shop , connected to a Texaco gas station would do me right! This cool, hidden gem, has all the right Jalisco eats at a very LOW price. The chips and salsa (red and green) are served fresh, and didn't disappoint. It's your typical mexican taqueria style salsas that go woth just about everything and anything. I ordered 3 pastor tacos, on flour tortillas, with cilantro and onion. I also ordered a side of refried beans, with a Dos Equis and lime to wash it all down. The pastor in the tacos , were well seasoned, and very moist. (it is very easy to dry this meat out, especially because pork is dry to begin with) The tortillas were not homemade, but tasted store fresh; the onion and cilantro were very fresh. The beans were just as good as my grandmother used to make. Bacon drippings, and lard, really make the flavor of homemade, mexican style frijoles. The beer? Well, how could you screw that up?! Try ordering in spanglish, because that's what I did. I must have come in at the time the engilish speaking server was on break. No biggie though... The best part is that the whole Jalisco experience only cost my just over 10 bucks! CHEAP!!!! I visited this establishment with another person on 1/21/2019 (it is now reopened). We ordered the Nachos with beef fajita meat and the Camelia. When we entered the establishment we seated ourselves. After we were seated, we were promptly greeted by a waitress. After taking our beverage order, the waitress brought chips and salsa to the table. The chips were not fresh however the salsa was. The salsa was made with fresh onions, cilantro and spices. This salsa is some of the freshest I've tasted. The food was at the table approximately 12 minutes after it was ordered. The nachos were as expected. The Camelia was topped with lots of canned cheese which is a shame because the meat (the chicken, steak, and shrimp) were all grilled perfectly. Some of the steak on the Camelia had tough gristle on it which made it inedible. The beans came with the Camelia were flavorful and hot. I will return to this establishment perhaps to try something else not with canned cheese. read more

I had the chilaquiles divorciados with steak. The portions are generous and so filling. The green chile sauce is mild and tangy. You can taste the tomatillos. The red sauce is a little spicier but just as delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. I'm used to having to add salt to steaks but this was perfect. Go try this place out! It's next door to a gas station on 620 and I-35 across the street from Sprouts Farmer's market. We ate there because we were in a hurry but it turned out to be good, fresh, inexpensive food. We ordered the barbacoa special plate (with grilled onion and jalapeño) and the egg and bacon breakfast taco. The tortillas were good and everything was fresh. I didn't like the flavor of the barbacoa especially but it might have been the actual dish I ordered. Next time, I'm going to try the regular barbacoa taco instead. They have this green sauce in a squeeze bottle that is like crack. I could not stop eating it. It was so spicy and garlicky that I will definitely go back to Chapala for that sauce alone. For those of you who like spicy Mexican food, try this place. This might become a new favorite lunch spot for me! read more

We were in a crunch so we stopped in here for breakfast tacos. The lady that answered was friendly, took our order right & in 10 minutes the food was in my car and actually really damn good!! My daughter and I both said that they were some good tacos. Simple, but pipin hot and I love that they use white cheese. Both the green and red salsas were spicy, but not overkill. Great flavor. Food wasn't terrible, but customer service was, server Yamilet refused to give me my receipt at time of payment because she said she didn't know how to print it out, since, and I quote "nobody ever asks for a receipt". She asked me to go around the table to take a look at the computer so I can verify the amount by myself. She charged me for a plate I did not order, did not offer refills, or checked on our service through out our dine-in. Afterwards, when we were grabbing our left over food, she spoke in bad manner about us to the cook, when I asked for the managers name she hesitated to give it out, and when asked for her name she claimed "I do not have to give you my name". I had to repeatedly ask her for it. Over all it wasn't a good experience, definitely won't be coming back. Yamilet said she's the only server there, so I will not be getting served by her again. I had egg & nopal, Egg and baco and then potato and egg. The potato & egg was not good at all. the potato was still hard like rocks. The bacon was the best, crunchy. The nopal was good but not enough nopal if you ask me. Would I come back, sure I'm going ot try the menudo and then update my review. by the way 3 burritos sounds like a lot but they were not filled very much so you can get away with eating three (corn tortilla) burritos and not be stuffed. (#98) Well we have a split decision on this round...First...Service was good, and for being hooked to a gas station, was some decent food. When you walk in the look goes toward a typical Dive joint, small, low light and clean. You easily forget you have a gas station right next door. We head the normal direction...Chips, Queso and Salsa. Queso was a lacking Heat, as in optimal cheese temperature. Seams that Chef "Mic-Rowave" was slacking at his job today. Now the Salsa, note the photo...not much in the bowl and Packed with flavor and Heat!!...A slow creeper burn, that you just cant stop eating. After adding a small spoon full to the queso, was pretty tasty. As for the main meal, this is where the split comes...Wife hit up the usual Beef Chiladas, zero beans, double rice. Truly a 2 star dish. Corn tortillas were thin, and split, and although they were pretty packed out with beef, it lacked flavor. Falls in the Steamed Meat Category..Along with a Bland "standard" gravy. Wife was really not impressed. Great Value did make up for some of the woes. One thing I think I have failed to mention in Any of my reviews, We NEVER add salt or pepper to our Mex/Tex Mex food!..Why should we? Mex/Tex Mex is all about spices and flavor, if done correctly. Then came out my plate...A Combo with Beef Fajita Meat, one cheese enchilada (green sauce) and a beef crunchy taco, beans and rice. Also a small scoop of Guac and Pico, And some flour "Store bought" Tortillas. Now it was the same beef on my crunchy Taco that the wife had, but added some of that killer salsa and it helped a lot (Wife did add that to the top of her Chiladas too)...Cheese Chiladas though small, was good. Green Sauce was spot on with plenty of cheese on top. Fajita meat was awesome, great flavor with just the right amount of Char. Beans were the Bomb!! Made 3 fat little tacos with a smear of beans, Fajita Meat, dab of guac and a bit of pico. Made for a good meal, and again a great value. Mine meal I would give an easy 4 stars, So we settle on 3 for and over all rating. They have a lot of items on the Menu to choose from, but being we rarely get to that area, not sure when we would come back. read more

Holy TORTA this place is good! It is a surprisingly amazing restaurant right in my own backyard, connected to a gas station? I was thinking it'd be a counter place, but it's full service. Small and no frills, but the service was good. That torta. I got a cuban torta and it was just perfect. My fave torta I've ever had. Just, ya. You know what I mean. Same staff has been there or YEARS lol they always know what I want to drink and the tacos I'm going to order. Sweetie and I were going garage sailing on a Saturday morning and thought we'd try a new place. Chapala fit the bill. Sweetie loves bacon so, bacon and egg taco for her.
