This is truly the best brunch I have ever had in my life! We were welcomed to a beautiful rooftop. From the moment we entered to when we left, we had friendly, attentive service that was top notch. We ordered the beet salad, salmon ceviche, sweet potato chips, fries with chorizo and poached egg (to die for!!), bacon and eggs over fresh salad, swiss chard empanadas (best I've EVER had!), and chicken skewers and it was all absolutely phenomenal. This is probably my first review here. I've been to Cabra a couple of times and the first experience was not good at all due to our server. She was really not helpful. I was asking her to explain the menu since I was not familiar with it and she just read it to me. Duh, I can read! And also her attitude was annoying. She looked at me like I was stupid that I didnt know the menu (almost 'rolling her eyes'). Maybe she had a bad day? Of course, I liked the food and wanted to give it another chance. The second time our server TANNER was so great!!! It was a totally different experience than the first visit. He was so helpful and kind. We are going back for lunch again today! read more

This place was amazing. We had a such a great view. Esp the view of my fiancé haha. We got the ceviche, solteriro, chicken thigh dish, salchipapas, and crab causa. The one we least liked was chicken thigh. My fiancé likes her chicken burnt usually with the burnt marks. I didn't mind it as well. But everything else was amazing. Drinks are on point. Are server was great too. I would highly recommend this place. It's on the second floor or Cira fyi. It's a little confusing but you go inside cira first and the Elevators are to the far right. I went on a Friday afternoon and you needed a reservation for indoor seating so me and my friend ended up being seated outside which was fine except for being in direct sunlight. We asked for a table that was open in the shade but were told that it was for a party for 4. The group that was sat at that table was just a party of 2 so that was kind of annoying. The food was a little pricey for the portion size. I got the shrimp ceviche and it was so fresh and delicious. Amazing food, great atmosphere, amped music. Highly recommended place! Why four stars? A couple of the servers were a bit rude and seemed snobby. One girl in particular was so uppity that I wondered why she got hired. And it nearly took an act of Congress to get our main waitress to come to our table. But it may have been a one-time problem and the manager was nice, so I would absolutely go again for the creative vegetarian dishes and beautiful views. read more

I would give the food itself 3 stars as the only dish I really loved was the duck ceviche...It's not really fair honestly because the duck ceviche came out first and so the bar was set super high for rest of our meal! Everything that came after was only OK...except for the Chicken Thigh Anticuchos, which came out juicy, hot, and with a pretty delicious tangy sauce. What brings me to give the restaurant an overall 4 stars is the PHENOMENAL service Rowda provided for us during our time there as well as the really cool rooftop setting/perfect summer vibe of the entire restaurant. A really fun place to celebrate with friends!! - With Covid, we sat outside and made a patio reservation. Their rooftop is gorgeous with a pool and beautiful view of the city. Entire restaurant is very aesthetic. - When we arrived, they took our temperature and made sure that everyone was wearing masks. Seemed very safe. Menus were available through QR code (menu offerings were limited). - We went for a celebratory birthday dinner (mostly vegetarians) and balled out. Ordered the avocado dip (3/5), Swiss chard and kale empanadas (5/5), beet tiradito (2/5) chicken thigh (5/5), charred summer squash (5/5), baby carrots (5/5), Solterito salad (4/5), Eggplant Saltado (5/5, the potato in this was amazing), Picarones (100000/5, sweet potato donuts), Brownie sundae (2/5), Tres Leches cake (4/5). Also got a bottle of the sparkling wine. - Favorite dishes were the charred summer squash and empanadas. The Picarones (sweet potato donuts) were outstanding as well. The dulce de leche sauce for the donuts was delicious. Very unique. Definitely order these. - Portions a bit small and prices were steep but worth it and also we expected this going in. We always make it a point it seems to go to ONE of the GOATS' on our anniversary. It's always a special treat. We've been wanting to try C since it opened. Didn't disapoint. I count on everything being on point and it always is. We didn't leave hungry. We started w 2 from the cold menu and then 2 from the hot menu. That Pork Shank was so crispy and the accompaniments were just the right amount of ying and yang to that Pork. What an indulging entree. Its always nice to know you can count on the GOATS to provide a solid dining experience. Food, Ambience, & Service will always be knowledgeable and just the right amount of attentive.. We had the goat empanadas and the steak soltado. They were great, as was the frozen pisco drink. It's a beautiful roof with a great view and the staff was professional and efficient in seating us. At one point they brought us a beer with no glass so we had to ask for it. This is not the reason for the 1 star review, however. Before ordering our food, we let our waitress know one person in our group was allergic to cilantro. The steak soltado came out covered in cilantro so we had to ask to send it back. The restaurant was using a contactless system to pay the bill, which is understandable due to COVID, but after leaving the restaurant I was charged for the bill for the large party at the table next to us. I attempted to contact the restaurant for three days before finally disputing the charge with my bank. Mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability ensures I will not be returning and do not recommend Cabra. read more

Absolutely love it here and i'm not usually a fan of Stephanie Izard's restaurants since they are typically salty. However, Cabra is not! Everything is super light and flavorful without being salty. Peruvian cuisine is awesome. I think Cabra makes an awesome job with fusion Peruvian and an OK job on the traditional Peruvian. The traditional ceviche was ok, I really wanted to do the salmon ceviche but I'm allergic to pistachio. Then I had the ají de gallina and the goat empanadas. Once again the traditional ají de gallina was ok but the goat empanada was Awesome! both of the dips for the empanadas were superb (pecan chimi and huacatay mayo) Then Cabra took it to the next level with the Shrimp tacu tacu, which was the highlight of my first visit to Cabra. The flavors run in your mouth as well as te textures of the "concolón" I finished with a lucuma ice-cream covered in olive lime salt mix. This was interesting, I liked the different flavors going at me. I like trying new flavor and experiment with things like this one (olive/lime), will not have this dessert again but a good experience. I see some reviews that seem from people unfamiliar with Peruvian food, but thanks to Stephanie we have another great Peruvian alternative in the city and worthy of Chicago's haute cuisine. read more

Was very excited to give Cabra a try! I love all of the Stephanie Izard restaurants and expected nothing less than perfect. Unfortunately first impression kind of fell short. The atmosphere gets 5 stars on it's own, however service was mediocre and while the food was delicious found it delivery and cost out of line. It may be that it is new but don't think it is a fair excuse when restaurants blame being new and thus having poor service. It took forever to get served and to get our food - the waiter rarely checked in. Also, had some great dishes however was kind of thrown off that the ceviche does not come with some sort of dipping mechanism. A side of chips would have been nice however that is an extra cost. Will come back to try again but kind of underwhelming first impression. read more

One of my favorite views... EVER! This restaurant took my breath away. My husband and I visited for lunch (right before the lunch rush) so we could truly enjoy the atmosphere. The severs and the crew were full of energy, everyone was happy to be at work. Andrew was our server and he delivered positive vibes and great recommendations to try a ceviche dish. 5 stars for Stephanie's latest and greatest restaurant! Gorgeous setting with expansive views in the sky. Lovely people eating lovely plates of food. One week in and this place is already hopping. IMPORTANT TIP: Thank goodness we planned to arrive early. It took us about 20 minutes to find parking. Traffic was insane - gridlocked and packed with angry, honking drivers. We finally settled for valet at the restaurant across the street. Valet costs $16 and is only available until 10:30 PM. We missed the restaurant the first time because we were looking for a "Cabra" sign. Ugh. That sent us around several blocks and sucked up another 10 minutes of time. Cabra is located inside the Hoxton Hotel. There is no external sign for Cabra. Now that I've shared the frustration of the parking experience, let's get down to the dining experience. Check in was a breeze. While our table was not ready, we were able to get to the bar and were quickly served a Moscow Mule and a vodka soda. The bar was busy, so we decided to sit by the fire on the pool deck. (Yes - a rooftop pool and bar area!). We were seated at a tiny, comfortable, round table for two and ordered the following: Shrimp Ceviche - JUST DO IT! So good! Left me wanting more. Pulpo Con Olivos - Pretty good, but would have loved more octopus. Jalea Mixto - Good sized portion. Loved the flavor of the breading. Shrimp Tacu Tacu - Oh my salt. Didn't finish the dish. :( Service was delightful. Tanner was friendly and attentive and could answer all of our questions. This place is on top of things. I would love to go back. I hear they are booking two months in advance. I wouldn't count on a walk-in. If you do decide to try for a walk-in and are unable to get seated, there are other neighborhood options. Enjoy! O. M. G. Let me tell you about this absolute gem of a eating and drinking establishment in the west loop! SO, where do I even begin?! The host Kevin was so welcoming that I felt like taking my shoes off and getting into my jammy jams as soon as I walked in. The views were to die for and the food and drinks literally brought me back to life. Rachel was my bartender and I haven't had such a pleasant experience since my 23rd surprise birthday party! I dined in this evening after a 4 year hiatus... and I can't believe I just haven't made time for this place. Ummm food was yummy. Is it the best Peruvian food I've had ,no but certainly up there. The highlight of the night was my scotch cocktail: yum. Mr. Caleb (taller blonde vivacious person/ fellow) was fantastic. Caleb is a breath of fresh air, often times in West Loop servers act as if you should feel blessed to have them serve you. And truly he kept me from leaving, because there was something that left a poor taste in my mouth. One of the server assistants was quite rude. I was making my way to the bar and he yelled a few time "behind". Sir, I'm not your coworker. I'm a guest; get some damn manners.you can wait 5 seconds, and if you can't there's this phrase "pardon me". It's not like he had a bunch of heavy dishes, or hot food he was carrying. The ambiance was great! Our server wasn't! We were sitting for at least 20 min before he came to ask us what we wanted to drink. My partner ordered the $15 Selva Baja cocktail & it was watered down. We didn't taste a hint of alcohol in the drink. When we told the waiter this issue, he basically said it is how they make it so it is what it is. I guess they don't know about making their customers happy. We ordered the shrimp ceviche for the leche de Tigre. But even though there were still some left in the bowl, our server took it away w/o asking us if we were done with it. The chicharrón pork shank was NOT worth ordering. This place is loud. LOUD. I don't have a problem with loud restaurants, but if you have a loud restaurant, then make sure you have servers who are able to talk over the loud. When we first arrived we were seated about 15 minutes after our 7:45 reservation and once seated, we sat there for about 15 more minutes waiting for water, menus, someone to stop by. Finally, one of the guys from our table got up and flagged a server down. Not a good start to the evening. We ordered a bunch of items from the menu and all were delicious, albeit small. We ordered two kinds of ceviche that one person could have eaten alone. The empanadas were great but were so small they could have been eaten in one bite. The avocado dip was tasty. The three stars is for the service. Again, if you have a loud restaurant, have servers that can handle that, not soft spoken people. We had someone bring out food, and as he was telling us what it was, his face was turned at a 90 degree angle to the table so his mouth was completely away. Now that's helpful. read more

Took advantage of "rooftop season" and checked out Cabra for brunch. I was a bit worried as there were no reservations available on OpenTable however, was able to walk right in and get a table for two... right on the patio, just like I wanted! Started off with the avocado dip and a passion fruit bellini to drink. The atmosphere is great and very nice. Ordered the skirt saltado as my main plate and omg, DELICIOUS! Everything about this plate was exquisite and so happy I went this route. The only thing that prevented me from giving it 5 stars was the service -- during our meal, never came to check on us and it took forever to get our bill. Not only was the waitress nonexistent, but she had no guidance in how to approach the menu when she decided that it was time to come to our table after 15-20 minutes. This is disappointing because all of Stephanie's other restaurants are my favorite in the city. The food was okay at best. The only positive was the avocado dip. The staff was very friendly, and accommodating when one of our friends was late because of traffic (can't sit without the full party there). Our waitress was phenomenal. I was worrisome after reading some reviews about poor servers, but ours was a complete joy. We never felt rushed, and were able to enjoy an extra cocktail over dessert after we finished our food. The ambiance was on point, especially when the weather is nice enough to have all of the terrace doors opened up. Amazing views, especially at sunset. The food was very good as well. Too long;didn't read (TL;DR): 3.5 stars. Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Great food and cocktails, as to be expected from Stephanie Izard. Service was fine. The atmosphere was disappointing: super dark, very loud, with a huge bar that seemed to overtake the dining experience. Might be worth a return visit in the summer when there's more natural light and people can spread out into the outdoor areas. Food: My husband and I ordered four dishes + dessert. This was a good amount of food and not overwhelming. We probably could've gotten one more dish if we were really hungry. Everything had a nice citrus flavor, which we appreciated. - Avocado Dip: This was very tasty, light, and refreshing. (A great dip to start with when you have a bunch more dishes to come!) The sweet potato chips were awesome. Taro chips were OK. I wish it was just a bowl full of sweet potato chips. - The ceviche, which was a special, was phenomenal-- the standout of the meal. It had lobster, avocado, candied citrus fruits, and a special sauce, which I believe the server said was bourbon butter. Oh my God, it was so good. I closed my eyes while eating it. Comparable to a lobster dish I had years ago at Michelin-starred Everest. - Crab Causa - Tasty combination of fresh crab, avocado, and basically mashed potatoes. You can't go wrong here. It was good. Comparable to what I've had at the other Peruvian restaurant in town, Tanta. - Goat Empanadas - Never had a bad goat dish made by Stephanie Izard. These were flavorful and came with a mayo sauce that complemented them nicely. - Spiced Brownie (dessert) - Recommended by our waitress. I loved that the sweet potato chips made an appearance again; this time dipped in dark chocolate. This was a delicious dessert, though I wouldn't say it was mind-blowing. The brownie chunks in it were good (as most brownie chunks are), but not the gooey decadence that I was hoping for. - Cocktails were great. A little on the sweeter side, so might be an issue for you if you don't like that. I enjoyed my pisco sour, and the Nuevo Sol went down nice and easy with Evan Williams, pineapple, and ginger ale. My husband also enjoyed the Fox & the Goat pale ale. Atmosphere: This was my real issue with the experience and the reason why this didn't get 5 stars. - Sound: TOO LOUD. I honestly thought there was some sort of networking or special event going on when we got there because it was SO LOUD, and there were so many people standing around the bar. I opted to sit directly next to my husband vs. across from him so that we could hear each other. (We're not hard of hearing by the way.) - Seating: The chairs themselves were quite comfortable. I sat on a plush chair, and my husband sat on a couch. What was NOT comfortable were the people standing around us engaged in loud conversations. And they were standing super close to us, even touching my chair at one point. It was weird. The bar got so packed that the bar-goers made their way into the dining area, and the servers/staff didn't seem to care. - Lighting: WAY TOO DARK. The pictures I saw online all showed this bright and colorful dining room, which I was really looking forward to, especially with the cold, dark weather we've been having in Chicago. But instead it was dark, and I mean really dark! My husband and I have never had so much trouble reading a menu. We were holding it over the little candle on our table, trying not to let it catch fire. I noticed that everyone at another table had their phones out with the flashlights on, trying to read the darn menus. Service: Just OK. Our waitress was nice and gave recommendations when asked. But downsides were: (1) It was my husband's birthday, which I'd noted when I made the reservation, and this was never acknowledged, nor were we asked if we were there for any special occasion. (2) Water wasn't refilled on a regular basis. I ran out of water at one point and had to try to flag down the water guy. I think he was having trouble getting to me with all the bar-goers circling around my chair. :( As I said above, in summary, really good food and drinks, but weird dining experience and atmosphere. Would like to try it again in the summer...if I can get a reservation. I hope they figure out a way to rein in their bar scene because it was pretty obnoxious. Went here at the beginning of Restaurant Week and loved it. The flavors are so vibrant, lots of acid and herbs. Our favorite dishes were the solterito and the passion fruit swirl, but everything was great. Several things were topped with crunchy quinoa, and it added such a nice textural element. I wasn't as happy with the cocktails - seemed really small for the price, but not a big enough deal to dampen the experience. I also enjoyed the tropical vibe inside, and the rooftop views. Covid precautions seemed fine, and the service was what you expect during a pandemic. The servers don't hang out with you, but I understand that.
