I am visiting the area and wanted some Mexican food. I ordered from Cactus Cafe and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I ordered the grilled chicken enchiladas. The food arrived hot and smelled good so I was excited. Then I opened the food. The chicken enchiladas were so covered in sauce I could not figure out where to start. I kept finding tons of baked beans but again could not figure out where to start to eat the enchiladas. When I found the chicken it was dry and just not that good. I also ordered a large bag of chips and cheese sauce. The sauce is just like the cheese we use at concession stands at school, nothing special. The chips were a small bag also. Cactus Cafe in Medford is absolutely amazing! The food is consistently great and high quality, their cactus wings and buffalo wings are hands down some of the best I've had. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and addicting of course especially with me being a wing fanatic. The burritos are on another level. They're huge, packed with ingredients, and the meat is incredibly juicy and flavorful in every bite. You can really tell they don't cut corners on quality. Not only does the brisket, carne asada and chicken remain juicy, it's completely packed with flavor and absolutely absurdly amazing. On top of the great food, the customer service truly stands out. Brittany in Medford is an outstanding employee friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel welcome. Her customer service alone makes you want to keep coming back. I swear I don't usually hype places like this but this is easily one of my fav places ever, not just restaurant based I just love the ambience and the bar is an amazing scene. Highly recommend Cactus Cafe if you're looking for great food and an even better experience with great food and customer service. I've been ordering from Cactus Cafe for years. I hate to have to write this but I've come to my last straw. I went in to order to go. On a Tuesday. They told me 10-15 minutes. I see others waiting who got there before me. After 30 mins I asked the worker how much longer. I was told a few minutes. I then noticed the workers were arguing and my chicken was left in the oven and burnt. I then noticed I guy who ordered way after me leaving before me. I finally get my food after 35-40 minutes. I get home and notice my tacos were not what I ordered. They did this to me last time also. It's sad to say all this because this place has good food. I think the problem is management. I come here with my boyfriend all the time. I always get the veggie burrito which is so delicious! I love their yellow sauce, so I always make sure to add that on top. Their chips and guac are some of the best too, super flavorful! Their homemade drinks are a must with any meal too, I think the horchata is my favorite. Their portions are always so big. Don't come here. Came in today and asked for a burrito bowl with no cilantro, no onion, no cheese, no sour cream. I have GERD which prevents me from eating these things. A picture is worth a thousand words, so they say. I suppose my life (especially Yelp-life) follows this idea with the amount of pictures I take each day. That's why I really didn't want to review Cactus Café of Medford, right now. You see, I had taken a whole bunch of pics of the place months and months ago, at two different times, but I never ended up reviewing the spot. And so the photos fell by the wayside (AKA trash). When I recently entered their storefront to grab dinner, I wanted to snap a few shots but the place was bustling and I didn't want to be THAT Yelp guy and get a bunch of confused faces peering back at me while I try to encompass the awesome style of Cactus Cafe. Ordering online from their website (a fast and easy process) also didn't grant me the time to get a few choice photos of their sauces, setup, or super nice employees. I mean I did get a handful of food pics, which is arguably most important when reviewing a restaurant, so I got that going for me. A snapshot of their creamy potato cheddar jalapeño soup and a side of large crispy chips with decent guac started off in filling the camera roll. The other images included a tasty shredded chicken burrito and a delicious smoked brisket taco (my favorite item of the meal). Oh, and a lime Jarritos does make a cameo in one picture. From those handful of photos I'd say the place deserves a review and maybe even five stars, but I think back and question why I didn't review the spot the first two times. I remember round one at CC gave way to semi-soggy nachos (though the burrito was solid) and round two involved a breakfast meal with a chorizo burrito that didn't blow me away (though it was massive and filling). Perhaps I ordered wrong on those initial trips because my girlfriend and I agreed that Cactus Café was a pretty solid location. Overall, I think a return visit is in order to gather some more images that can be added to Cactus Cafe's Yelp page (via me). Maybe my first few experiences didn't drive me towards wanting to review them, but this third venture helped picture (pun definitely intended) myself coming here a little more often for quality Mexican grub. Four stars for now, but that could change with one more snap and bite. read more

Last night, my hubby got into his car, happy as a lark, heading to one of our favorite restaurants to purchase a few meals. When he got home, I thought he was joking when he said, "The cut WAY back on their portions". The small chicken soup was 6.00! SMALL! The rice and beans are served in these little tiny plastic containers (I measured and it was LESS than half a cup of rice!), that are a joke, as well as the beans. No more aluminum tins filled with good stuff! Although the chicken is a sensible size and was DRY as ever, the fries have been way cut back on, (like we wouldn't notice?) Every single time I eat here, wether takeout or dine in, the quality, taste and value of their food is always consistent. I've been eating here for YEARS- the staff is always friendly and appears they truly enjoy working there. They do $5 after 10pm each night and their burritos are HUGE!!! The salmon and crispy chicken are my top two choices. Appetizers- their chips and cheese sauce will blow ANY chips and queso app out of the water. Their guac is bright, fresh and flavorful as well. For the colder months , their corn chowder will warm you up and fill you up! (It's so good I get it all year honestly, not just when it's cold!) Tacos- best fish tacos I have ever had. You know the food is SLAMMING when during the meal, I'm completely silent. The bbq brisket tacos are also to die for. Enchiladas- the cheese enchiladas are what I tried first and kept me coming back for years. The portions are huge, and you WILL have leftovers. Amazing food!!!!! Would recommend to everyone! I had the shrimp tacos and my family had a garden burrito and a shrimp burrito (they were out of regular fish or else the shrimp orders would have been standard fish, but I totally understand - it happens and no big deal and we came after the dinner rush. It was no big deal because they have a lot of options!!) So anyway... we all enjoyed our food tremendously! They take solid precautions during COVID which I like. It was not too busy when we first arrived and they were still as efficient and timely to us as if it was busy. They were genuinely interested and happy to help us. We exchanged jokes... bottom line was that they were super welcoming and attentive. The person working the counter also offered to come to the table outside we wanted to sit at and wipe it down for us, and grabbed an extra chair we needed for us without us asking. They seriously go the extra mile and tonight was a pleasant surprise since we hadn't been there before. It's a little small gem. Their attention to detail is great. You can tell a lot of effort had been put in to decorating and maintaining the restaurant, along with them hiring great folks who care enough and know the importance of going the extra mile.
