I write this review in hopes my friends will never read it...and if they do then I'll be ready to answer that "You don't like Avocaodos?!" question. You see, when my fiancée and I visited this Bohemia location a few months back, we went with a couple of friends who love the place. For my lady and I, we were feeling more of a mild liking. Now maybe it starts with our own preconceived notions because something somewhere in our brains made us think Avocados was a restaurant. Ya know, like a sit down with table service kind of restaurant. Nope. It's really more of a quick serve type of Tex-Mex spot that honestly wasn't anything special in style. You can blame this factor on my own confusions, but even so, aesthetics won't bring you back. Perhaps the menu might intrigue you to return as Avocados does offer up a rather extensive selection of tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and other Mexican fare. I was leaning towards some fajitas, though they were going to take a chunk of time to be ready (while everyone else's food would be done quick). It's nice to know they'd be fresh, but I didn't want to wait so instead I pivoted to the Famous John Burrito. This handheld wrapped chicken, lettuce, tomato, bacon, crushed chips, salsa, ranch and hot sauce together. It sounded a little better than the actual item itself. Those flavors mostly came through in each bite, though I can't say I got much spice (hot sauce) or meaty taste (chicken). Their variety of spicy hot sauces did help to remedy this. For my fiancée, she went with the steak quesadilla. It was definitely cheesy as it should be, but something about the steak flavor seemed odd (the spices used?) and it didn't really hit home for either of us. The best part of the meal (other than the hot sauces), was probably their queso. It was almost more of a Velveeta cheese in color, but tasted great on the side of chips that we went with which accompanied our food items. I mean if chips and sauces are your best attributes then I'm not sure how good you are. Overall, I really wanted to like Avocados a little more than I actually did. They may have confused my initial understanding of what kind of food place they were, but even after that I wasn't blown away by any of their grub (well, I'll take the cheese sauce please). I know places often deserve a second shot and I hope to give that to them, but it's hard to compare Avocados with a little taco truck right off the LIE that just makes authentic and delicious bites. Living so close to Avocados makes me think that I'll return one day in the future with no preconceptions and the hope that I can have a meal as good as the ones my friends apparently have. The staff were extremely nice. This isnt a fancy place but a good place to have lunch and a casual dinner. Prices are reasonable. This is a Mexican restaurant with common Mexican food. My girlfriend and I stopped at Avacados on our way home to grab a quick bite to eat. We were pleasantly surprised that there was no line and we were able to walk right up to the counter to order. We ordered the BBQ nachos, 2 shrimp tacos, a steak taco, and a pork taco. As we were waiting for our food we went to find a table to sit and every table had food remnants on it from whoever was eating at it before us. Typically this would be understandable if there had been a number of other people leaving or eating as we arrived but even after we finished our meal there was still no one coming around to clean the tables. The tacos were ok. The presentation was fine. The only thing we thought was good were the nachos. We interacted with 2 employees when we were there. One of them was super friendly and the other seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else. The one thing that shocked us was the size and quality of the napkins. They are the smallest napkins and are thinner than what you would get at a deli. Considering the type of messy food that is served here, it blew our minds at the quality and size of them. read more

A key for me is when they don't skimp on the red peppers because most places give you one sliver of red pepper and the rest are green peppers and a ton of onions. Huge portions. Here's the Scoop! I've passed this place on more then one occasion on my way to my mechanic and wanted to check it out. So again coming from my mechanic my honey and I stopped to check it out. Upon entering the dining area is small and can accommodate small groups. Large screen tv in the middle of the dining area. Large counter to the right of the entrance is where you order. The menu is directly above on large screens. This place gives you the impression that the food will be good but it's quite the opposite. We ordered empanadas that come in pork, beef, chicken or steak. The crust is a bready texture not crispy which threw me. Also over cooked. We ordered soft tacos too. The tacos didn't have enough cheese, barely lettuce or tomato. I was shocked when we got home to check out our order. There wasn't enough seasoning in any of the food. Very disappointed! They've been open for 3 years and i don't know how. Hopefully, they'll improve after reading this review. As far as price goes our ticket was around $40.00. I think that's a bit pricey for the quality. I'll have to go back at a later date to see if they upgrade the food. read more

The food tastes good, but ordering here is more frustrating than it should be. We first tried ordering by phone before and felt there was a language barrier. We got to the store at the time when they said to pickup and waited at least another half hour. The place was packed and staff was hustling but please don't tell us a 45 minute wait then have us wait another half hour on top of that. Then when we got home we realized both our orders were incorrect. We were starving and the orders were close enough so we ate them and waited awhile before trying Avocados again. This time we ordered online in hopes our order would be more accurate. Unfortunately it again wasn't accurate but we again didn't notice until we got home. It late and we didn't feel like going back, and since the main items were right but missing the extra ingredients/side (rice, beans, sour cream, pico de gallo) so we just ate what we got. Now we know if we give them a third try to unwrap each item in the store to see if the order is correct. read more

But sadly the burrito was only cooked on one side I don't know how but the cheese was still cold and fresh from the bag it didn't even melt I only for the first time in my life ate half of a burrito. I also ordered the wings with Mango Habanero and sadly the wings didn't even get well cooked half of them were cold and some were hot I had to throw the whole plate out the only thing I really liked from my meal was my drink. Wow. I go to a lot of restaurants and I'm not sure I have ever experienced such bad service. First off, by it's size we thought it would be a sit-down restaurant. It's really just expensive "fast" food. The place doesn't have much character and it's in the middle of an industrial area. We arrived at about 5:30pm. There's no one on line and maybe one or two other couples waiting. It's not busy AT ALL. We placed our order. The young woman working the register then proceeds to have a hard time reading her own hand writing while ringing us up. This doesn't inspire confidence. She tells us they'll bring us our food when done. We wait. And wait. And wait some more. More people start coming in and placing orders. They wait. We're all waiting a long time. They call our name and tell us it'll be a bit for our food (even though it's been 40 minutes already). We wait some more. And wait. And now we are actively talking about our wait and how long others are waiting. We set a time limit of 6:45pm (yes, you read that right). I don't know why we waited as long as we did... probably because I hate to be THAT PERSON who demands a refund. But it was almost 7:00pm... almost 90 minutes by the time I had to go back to the register and ask for my money back... and it was ridiculous. No one came and apologized. No one offered us anything. All we got were excuses. And when I finally did just ask for my money back, the cook tried to tell me it was the Fajita we ordered that was taking so long. In what damn universe does a VEGETARIAN Fajita take 90 minutes? I'm sorry, there are way too many Mexican restaurants (and good ones!) in the area to have to deal with a place like this. At the very least they should have told their customers they were backed up, and offered us future coupons and profuse apologies. I felt particularly bad for a family waiting with a couple of little kids... but luckily they were behind me when I was asking for my refund, and someone else appeared to be getting a refund too, so hopefully he got the hint and went somewhere else as well. The burritos are massive (quantity) but aren't that most amazing thing I've ever tasted (quality). For what you pay, though, it'll definitely fill you up. I ate this around 2pm and was so full I couldn't even fathom eating dinner. As I write this, it's 9pm and I'm still not hungry. So if you need a quick fill and you're hungry (but certainly in no rush), here's your place! The establishment is fairly big. You got lots of tables and booths and space. Staff is friendly. I absolutely LOVE this place! The food is made fresh to order and is super tasty. Added bonus is that when you order delivery, at least for lunch as I do, it is always super prompt if not earlier than the expected delivery time. I have had some issues with their ordering system though. Once I placed an order for pick up and it just didn't go through. Thank goodness it wasn't delivery or I would have been in big trouble. Twice I ordered tacos with a side of guacamole (which I had to pay for - totally expected!) and they didn't send it. Forget the money, I wanted guac with my tacos! Major bummer! Today was the latest...I ordered a steak burrito, which was delicious, but it's suppose to have pico in it. Mine did not. Again, it was tasty, but I was looking forward to having pico in my burrito and it wasn't there. Lastly, their queso is meh, it's really more like thin nacho cheese and it isn't really that great. First time I went I had the chicken taco salad which was delicious! The last time I went I was not as impressed. The avocado quesadilla was....interesting. The blue cheese should have been on the side because mine was basically a blue cheese quesadilla with toppings. - Will not order again. Just moved to the area and we're so happy this place opened. Today was their 2nd day being open and it seems to be running pretty smoothly! We ordered at the counter and waited for our name to be called to grab our tray. I ordered a steak burrito - no cheese. Hubs ordered the Juan burrito also no cheese. Both came out perfectly. The burritos were massive! We ordered fries which were eh but expected. I ordered a churro based on the reviews from the Avocados in Bayport and omgggg it was sooo good. Do NOT waste your time (literally!) I'll start by saying I can't rate the food because we ended up getting a refund and leaving after 1.5hrs of waiting! We ordered our food to stay. I noticed there were only 2 employees preparing food. Fine. I've worked in food service and there were days we were short staff. I anticipated a wait, maybe 20-30 mins. I also noticed a couple of families (3-4) sitting that were also still waiting. Then AT LEAST 5 customers came in after us and got there "go-to" orders (~10mins between each order). The last family sitting that came in before us finally got their food. So ours should be next, right? NOPE. Two more "to-go" orders go out. Now, we have no idea of knowing when those orders were placed, but had we been told 10+ ORDERS would be prepared before ours and the wait would be over an hour, we would've left. On top of the insanely long wait, there was no apology. When we asked the cashier when our food would be ready, SHE LAUGHED. I guess it was a nervous laugh, but it did not help the situation. She explained they were short staffed. Yes. We know. They gave us chips maybe 30-45 mins into or wait and said "it'll be awhile." Well, "awhile" apparently meant another 30+ minutes. Had we not be involved in conversation with our company, we probably would've left sooner. I regret that we didn't because it really screwed up the rest of our night (were hoping to get to the beach) Ultimately, we got our refund, got food at a fast food joint, stopped home and managed to get to the beach for sunset all in the time we sat at Avocados and didn't get our food! read more

Prices are excessive for the amount/quality of food you receive. The cheese quesadilla is pathetic--a small flour tortilla with cheese and five tortilla chips slapped on top (included in the wrap, so they were soggy) plus a tiny side of sour cream for $5.40. I ordered a pulled pork/carnitas burrito and got a large portion (two meals for me) in an 8" take out container. Rice is weirdly chewy and not typical yellow rice (more like brown rice in texture). Around noon, two items were ready after twenty-ish minutes, employees friendly and the place looked very clean and well-furnished. My coworkers ordered a shrimp salad plus avocado, which was ridiculously small for $14 and in general they charge around $2 for a tiny cup of guac or sour cream. My coworker ordered a kid's burrito meal ($7 with added vegetables) and it arrived without veggies. She upgraded it for $2 steak and she added a small sour cream and guacamole. The total ended up $17 with tax and she also got the same soggy chips inside the wrap. The menu doesn't mention their weekly burrito special (philly cheesesteak for $9.19 when I went) or that empanadas come in pork, chicken or beef. Tl;dr: Would not recommend but if you must, get a burrito. I mean, they have bacon cheeseburger burritos--huge indicator that this place is far from authentic. I ordered a buffalo chicken quesadilla and it was covered in what appeared to be blue cheese. I am not sure the menu stated that it had blue cheese on it. I could have missed that information, had I seen it, I would not have ordered it. It was very messy, and looked like something I would make at home myself. It did not stay together well. I also ordered a side of rice, and the texture was weird. It was kind of like a cheesy rice, not what I would picture them serving.
