The margaritas are outstanding--perfectly balanced, refreshing, and honestly some of the best I've had. They pair perfectly with the nacho fries, which are loaded, flavorful, and great for sharing (or not!). One of the highlights is the outdoor patio. It's such a nice space to unwind, whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a casual night out. The atmosphere is lively but still comfortable, making it easy to sit back and stay awhile. On our first visit, we absolutely loved everything about Cactus Grille; subsequent visits have never been quite as good. Thirsty Thursdays are awesome if you order a regular-size margarita; I recommend Suffering Bastard. Fry Bread is really good with Queso Rojo, not so great with Border Dip. Chips are good with either dip. Our Jalapeno Bottle Cap Nachos were made different from what's on the menu, so I cannot testify to the menu version; our version was good but not great. Border Rolls, on the seasonal menu, are VERY good, but you don't get a lot of food for $14. It's legal to add a credit card surcharge, but customers don't like it - is that sneaky 2% extra really worth annoying customers? And you know how they give you 3 or 4 choices for what to tip? Of the 4 choices, the LOWEST is 20%. Fact: some servers deserve that, and some deserve more, but some deserve less. On our last visit, after adding a tip, the total showed as $64.64 at the time, but my credit card was charged $65.72. The more I studied the emailed receipt, the less it made sense; the total of the items ordered did not add up to the subtotal, and they charged sales tax on the 2% credit card surcharge. WTH? It's really sad that payment issues have dampened our enthusiasm for this otherwise fine restaurant. read more

Mostly got some of my breakfast options from this place Togo, until this time. Went with group of friends for dinner and some karaoke time. we had a blast!! Of course I got to have my quessabirria tacos with steak, taste perfectly seasoned, yummy spanish rice! We were there for quite sometime, our waiters, I am sorry I forgot your name! We were seated in an area that smelled like garbage outside. I would have asked to sit inside instead but it smelled like sour table rags. I ordered a Launitas beer (an IPA) and it tasted like a metallic amber beer, which I'm guessing is from not cleaning their lines. Seriously disappointed. First off, we went to Wicked Tequila Bar next door at first, I was told it's owned by the same person as Cactus Grille. We happened to be up this way (we live south of Denver) & I finally saw on Google that it was open. I've been trying to catch that place open (they usually open at 2) to review it for a WHILE. I was so excited so we went straight there. Low & behold, we show up & there's a drag show. So they wanted to charge us $20 each to get in when they said it was almost over anyway. They offered to let us sit outside. That would be cool if it wasn't raining. They also informed us that since it was owned by the same people, we could order food from Cactus Grille & have it brought over to Wicked Tequila Room but not vice versa. This wouldn't have been such an issue if it wasn't raining through the covering on their patio so much we HAD to move next door to Cactus Grille. However, Cactus Grille isn't offering the same happy hour that Wicked Tequila is offering for the exact same margarita by the same owner. So I paid $3 extra for a house marg simply because I had to move out of the rain to eat. AND the ghost margarita that I wanted isn't on Cactus's menu. The only spicy marg they offer is a jalapeño one. Anyone who knows margs knows there's a difference. I don't understand why they can't use the spicy ghost tequila over here for the same price. Makes no sense to me. At this point I'm over it. We'll never be back to either establishment. And I don't even want to give my business to or support in any way the person / family who owns them because its really disappointing to not be offered the same things literally across an alleyway. BTW, the food next door at Cactus wasn't worth the price. I hate onions. Ordered the southwest egg rolls & it came with Pico. After having a whole convo with the server who assured me, even on the menu, it didn't have Pico on those. And my Hubby's Gordita plate wasn't warm. read more

I was attracted to the all day happy hour on a Thursday. Seated immediately and service was prompt. Let's talk food: this is the most atrocious Mexican food I've ever had. The dried steak was on a flattened tortilla stuffed with some cheesy poblano sauce. That was tasty. Without that this entire dish would have been bland. Rellanos: more breading than chili. Not very good at all. Drinks: fine. I'd say the only reason anyone would come here. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff or maybe the chef was off. Disappointing. read more

I went for taco Tuesday. The tacos were limited to chicken or ground beef. Both were dry and flavorless. The only condiment was some Tapatio sauce. Nothing else the margarita that went with the special was nothing to write home about. honestly, the tacos at Taco Bell are better than this place. Stumbled upon this restaurant on the eve of St. Patty's day while checking out the cute and quaint downtown area. We could see it well before we arrived (due to the fun and funky metal work art out on the patio). With the sun shining, and tummies a grumbling we decided to take a load off and enjoy some grub. We each indulged in a festive libation (green house marg for him, and a green marg with pineapple and orange juice for me). Both drinks were dyed green (with food coloring) for the occasion. I don't typically go for food coloring but I was feeling in the festive spirit. The happy hour food menu is just great. All items are $7 and there are a few optional things you can add on for $2 (extra toppings, meat, etc.). We went for the chicken quesadilla and french fry nachos. Both came out amazingly fast and were pretty darn tasty. The French fries were quite impressive. I'd definitely order them on their own as well. For dessert we had the sopapillas. They tasted great but were considerably thicker than other sopapillas we've enjoyed elsewhere (more like little rolls). They made for quite the filling dessert. The waitstaff was excellent. Very attentive, personable and responsive. Will definitely be back for another snack and bevy when I'm in the area. read more

Our waitress never came around to ask us if we needed anything else. We had to ask her for anything we needed. When it came time to pay our bills she gave us our totals and said there is a 20% gratuity added since there was 6 of us. We told her she never checked on us. She said she had Another table and was busy. We asked to talk to the manager and she said SHE was the manager. She argued with me about the price of my drink!! It seemed like Cactus had stumbled a little bit post COVID, and we actually stopped going there for a while. After our visit last week, however, we were pleasantly surprised and we all agreed that they seem to have things under control again. My daughter had me go here back in June. She knows what I like and, amazingly, they had a stuffed sopapilla on the menu. The ultimate New Mexico comfort food is rare to find outside of New Mexico. Last weekend I was excited to go back. In a word, it sucked. Instead of being smothered in green chile, it was weirdly on the side. It was unusually thick as well. Mine was ordered with ground beef, as it should be, but oddly was filled with tomato and lettuce. Now, that might seem fine to uninitiated gringos, but it's supposed to be a beef and cheese heart attack wrapped in sweet fry bread and chile with more cheese. That's what makes the dish what it is. There wasn't even any cheese. What's up with that? That's what I had in June and it was amazing. New Mexican food is supposed to be simple peasant food with a lot of chile flavor. If you can't achieve that simple formula, please take it off the menu. That said, the service was excellent in both instances, so hats off to them. I believe ole' school Lovelanders are loyal to this place and the owner for what it "used" to be, because it isn't that anymore. The food is just not good, I repeat NOT GOOD. The drinks on the other hand are very strong which helps the food. We ordered nachos to share and 2 Margaritas. My husband & I haven't been here for quite awhile and decided to give it another go, and found everything the same as before, slapped together. There's something about the seasoned meat they use that is just awful in taste and in appearance. The way the food is presented is so sloppy, gloppy - a wet nondescript glop. When the food is dropped in front of you the response is..."ummm..that's it?" not "That looks yummy" It's actually concerning. The service is exactly as described in other reviews so I will not comment. We did not complain or send anything back - just picked at the nachos to try to find something edible in it, left a nearly full plate & empty glasses. It is nice to "go" out again, dine in again. I think local restaurants who are having an influx of customers they haven't had in the last year, training staff that's new or have had hours cut etc. should par down their menus to the most popular items, made adjustments until staff & ownership gets up to speed again. Customers will understand that, but what they don't want is to pay full price for a subpar meal, they don't want to hear "people don't want to work"...Customers want a happy experience too not your bellyaching. Owners ..make some adjustments in hours, in menus, in how you treat people, adapt & make that a positive not resist changing because your comfortable with the way things used to be. read more

A decent place to get your southwest meal on. Our waiter was pretty good, although he was really busy with another large party that took most of his time. We started with the tableside guacamole. It was very tasty, and you got to see all six ingredients beforehand - plus he asked if all were okay to use. That's probably best for the jalapenos, in case people don't want the spice or want it light, but I'm not sure why you would omit anything else. So having freshly prepared guacamole is great, and certainly tastes better. But in a really casual place like this, there's not really any need for a show. In fact, my table simply continued to talk among ourselves as the waiter did his work. The bowl for the chips was pretty small, which was a concern. Fortunately, as I was about to ask for more chips, the waiter also asked if we wanted more chips. The wife said that her fish tacos were pretty good. They also had a lot of filling, so that it was almost too much for the taco shells to hold. Spanish rice and beans are standard sides for all the entrees. I did like how you get a choice of pinto or black beans. The sides are all pretty standard, though. My stuffed sopapilla/fry bread was also good. This was primarily because the chicken was generous, moist, tender, and nicely spiced. It was actually a bit difficult to eat. I didn't have a good way to cut the cheese covered fry bread, so I basically used a fork on the chicken and tore off pieces of the bread (the cheese was mostly solidified, not a sauce). read more

I asked for a double margarita and he asked me what that meant. 2 shots of tequila sir! Then I ordered a breakfast that originally had meat and I requested meat free. It was served with meat and I sent it back. He came back to the bar very upset saying "we obviously aren't on the same page! I put in your "special" order just like you asked!" I told him it came with pork green chili and the menu said salsa. He told me all dishes come with pork green chili and I told him the menu said salsa and he told me I read it wrong. I asked to see the menu and he said no that he will get me another special plate. Now I'm upset! I'm a vegetarian and I read the menu closely. He finally brought me the menu and I showed him it said salsa and not green chili. He stormed off saying the menu was wrong and not him. I couldn't even eat my new plate because I was so upset. Came in just because I needed to waste some time before a haircut. But I was quickly impressed by the array of different tequila's and the eclectic atmosphere. It was over $50 for flavorless beef fajitas the definitely were frozen and bland vegetarian fajitas with steamed unflavored broccoli and cut in half baby carrots. Neither "sizzling skillet" was sizzling or even hot when they came out and it wasn't busy. The staff really wants nothing to do with you and are absolutely unpleasant. Definitely lack luster and disappointing. I tend to judge a Mexican restaurant by their chile relleno's and margaritas. While the marg's are strong they are generic and predominantly syrup without any fresh element. The chile relleno was most certainly frozen from Sysco and a really big let down. We've given them a try twice and all other food items were palatable at best. We will not be returning without a serious change in their standards. read more
