This place is cool for Dinner but too chaotic for breakfast. We stayed at the neighboring hotel and Mikey's is right across the parking lot. They also have a contract with them to serve their complementary breakfasts so we decided to hit them up for dinner. When we entered we were greeted by Mike, at least I thought it was as his shirt talked about how good/cool Mikes are. He was very nice and accommodating and made some recommendations. I was intrigued by his description of the Dynamite Sticks and promptly ordered the ground pork version. When they arrived i started to get a little apprehensive by the look of them but within ten minutes we had emptied the plate. It was a little too spicy but I enjoyed them. A while later my Rib Eye entree arrived and it was good and priced fairly. I feel the salad seemed a little bland and basic but I still crushed it. All in all the dinner was a good and pleasant experience with just a bit of wait. The next morning we went for the hotel's complementary breakfast. It was slammed so we grabbed a spot at the bar. It took about 10 minutes to get or drink order in and another 15 to get our order in and when we did we were rushed and the waitress walked away before we could order more food as the Hotel's complementary breakfast meal was far too small. We were there for about an hour before we got our food. It seemed as though the workers were confused and running in circles. Food tasted good and they even had the good creamer for the coffee. Also, Mike seemed to be there in the morning too and good thing as he seemed to show up and get everything going. I would definitely visit this place again but not for breakfast. read more

Mikey's has officially won me over! I just had the best turkey scramble I've ever eaten. The mushrooms were perfectly sautéed, the onions and spinach were fresh and flavorful, and the mozzarella cheese was added in exactly the right amount. We are staying at the Palm Garden Hotel and were given a "free breakfast" coupon for this place, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with no meat and ended up waiting over 30 minutes. During that time, I watched multiple people sit down, get their food, eat, and leave. I finally had to ask about my order, and the employee was very rude. She handed me the sandwich in a bag, and when I asked if it had meat on it, she said, "Yeah, sorry, it does." After waiting that long, the order was still wrong, and the customer service made the experience even worse. Definitely not worth the time. read more

So I wanted to give this place a shot because we lived down the street and we were hungry. But I just have to give an honest review of the service was not good. Took the girl a long time to come back back-and-forth for our drinks. I got a tuna melt. The bread was completely soggy, and the fries were undercooked. A unexpectedly spacious breakfast spot included with our hotel in the most confusing of ways, but ultimately delicious! My partner went spud nuts for the breakfast potatoes. I prefer a sunny side up egg, just so I have something to yolk about, but understand that they don't make substitutions, and I'd be silly if I didn't egg-knowledge that this restaurant was significantly better than your average buffet powdered eggs sitting in a heated pan that hotels often provide. After reviewing the menu I went off script and chose the steak Benedict. My thought process was I haven't had red meat this month and also wanted to try dish I never order, here or anywhere. It was a very filling meal for sure. The steak was bountiful, cooked to order, and sliced to where it was easy to use cutlery for each bite. I did not need any additional condiments. Came here for breakfast and it's a pretty open space. Looks like in the evenings they have live entertainment. The server was really friendly and nice. I ordered the two eggs and steak breakfast. I asked to substitute the potatoes with sweet potato fries and she happily did so. I ordered the steak medium rare with sourdough toast. The food came out pretty quick. The fries were crispy on the outside with a hint of salt and was really good. The sourdough was nice and I added butter to it. Now to the steak. The seasoning on the steak was really good but the steak itself came out well done. Not medium rare, not medium, but fully overly cooked. I didn't complain because the server was so nice. I would probably come back because everything else came out really good but maybe try something beside a steak since that doesn't seem to be their specialty. read more

When you stay at the Palm garden, the minute you show your voucher the waitress turned into the B word. The free hotel breakfast was nothing special not worth the walk you have to take from the hotel. We did order food off the menu, French toast. And this place figured a way to mess that dish up. Only thing I would order off the menu is the smoothie. Place is not good only went because the hotel. If palms garden was smart they would eliminate that partnership. Mikey's is the kind of local spot every town needs. Lisa and Mikey run it and they're incredibly friendly and welcoming. They host fun events like karaoke, comedy nights, and even magicians, which gives the place a really lively and unique atmosphere. I ordered the burger and it was massive. I tried their corned beef Benedict with hash browns. The outer edges were crispy! When I cut through the poached eggs, it was yummy with yolk seeping into the corned beef and English muffins. I haven't had corned beef in years, and this hit the spot! Only reason why I dropped a star, is because the server mopped her area with cleaning agent while I was eating, and the smell bothered me, and kind of made me feel nauseous. I brought my boyfriend here for the first time and he genuinely loved both the food and the service. the owner actually came by to talk to us, and she was such a delight. we ordered the ube pancakes and an omelette and both were delicious. I've been here several times before, and I really appreciate that they offer a good amount of gluten-free options. I've never been disappointed. the owner also told us about their karaoke nights on thursdays and fridays, as well as 21+ dancing on saturdays, which sounds so fun and is such a sweet way they try to bring the community together. It's truly a small, family-run business, and you can feel the care in everything they do. I highly recommend Mikey's. I will order off of the regular menu as the omelettes and crepes are really good. The hotel menu is good and exceeds the typical free breakfast offered at most hotels. While it can get crowded with hotel guests the service is efficient and cordial. Never rushed. The place is always clean. I have observed the European customers can often be rude and impatient. The quality of the food and the flavor combinations left us disappointed. The steak sandwich was chewy (wrong cut of meat or lack of proper tenderization) and the pesto sauce masked the smokey tones of the roasted veggies. The medium well burger was more like well done and dry. Sweet potatoes have a seasoning that clashes with their natural sweetness. Great value on 1/2 off appetizers and drinks deals as well. We really enjoyed our orders, and had some really good wings as well. Great family run eatery. Ate here a couple times recently. Really good food both times and solid service. Mikey is serious about his food and a very present owner/chef operator. The interior is in serious need of details and a redo, to make it a fine dining experience. But it is a great neighborhood restaurant were you can sit at the bar and have a really nice meal with friendly service. Walnut crusted Cod, was succulent and cooked to perfection. The mash and side vegetables, basic but good and very well cooked. I enjoyed my dinner that night I returned the next to try two other dishes I saw. Fried Calamari is really good, real hand cut and true house made marinara. A nice portion and freshly made sauce, a great start. Stuffed Portobella Mushroom on pesto pasta was simply freakin delicious. A beautifully prepared large cap stuffed and piled high over a bed of fresh pesto pasta in a rich cream sauce. I travel to Thousand Oaks regularly for business and stay at the Palm Garden Hotel. Mike's restaurant in the parking lot is a regular stop for me over the past year or so, especially for the free breakfast included in staying at the hotel due to their partnership. I've developed a relationship with the owners having eaten there so much and now they regularly cater our company business meeting. Food is always great tasting and delivered on time. I would highly recommend Mikey for any occasion. In fact one time I went in not feeling 100% and Mikey made me an off menu chicken soup which I would say believe it or not healed me by the next day, was absolutely amazing! read more

I'm giving this restaurant a three due to the fact we had to get someone and ask them where could we sit. We were brought out menus right away and my husband and I each got a beer. But then I had to go get someone when we were ready to order. It might've been the owner's wife as she was cleaning menus. They weren't very busy yet as the crowd wasn't coming until like six and we were there more like five. The owner came over and talked to us and he was very nice and everyone was nice. I just felt kind of ignored. My husband had the patty melt and he loved it. He got onion rings and he shared some with me. I got the pastrami melt. It wasn't as good as most of the ones I've had before. I think I should've asked for some spicy mustard that would've helped. I chose baby greens and it was a salad and it was fine. Nothing lost everything gained with the new ownership. All you favorites are all still there from the previous owner but the menu is spruced up with a dinner menu and they now have a happy hour. And they appeared to be regulars, waving and greeting staff as they arrived. The waitress appears to be a substitute.. she was friendly and willing to get us whatever we asked for, but wasn't organized like a traditional server. The atmosphere was relaxed...it took over an hour to get our food, but it was hot and delicious... Except for the garlic bread which was cold. First I will have to say that we really liked the owner and his wife BUT..........we went for Thankgiving dinner. There were only 4 other pepole there. Mikey had told me on the phone that TG dinner was $25.99, but he charged $27.99. It was terrible. It was served cold....sweet potatoes had a chill on them from the frig. Green bean were not cooked and hard. Stuff was....wierd with mashed carrot in it and what looked like cheese on top. turkey was ok. I hardly ate anything but the turkey. A Marie Calendars frozen turkey dinner would have been better and been about $25 less. When we were thru, he brought one small piced of pumpkin pie with 2 spoons. REALLY? for $28.00? I feel that my money went in the trash. Had to make something else to eat when I got home.When the asked how it was, I said absolutley nothing, but my friend not wanting to hurt there feeling said it was great. Now she is telling me that it was awful and they wont last. If something is bad, I will never say it was good. This was really really bad. I was like they took at frozen dinner from the store, and put it on a plate and microwaved it for a minute or two. I have been hearing from others that the food is not good too. Mikey's is a favorite of mine and my family! The menu is extensive and delicious, with options from traditional breakfast to unique crepe and pancake flavors. Their evening menu is large as well, with many additions. The portions are excellent and the owners (who also operate the restaurant-- it's largely family-run) are very nice. I've noticed some negative reviews, but these also seem to be from people who are there during the breakfast rush. Because the adjacent Palm hotel does not offer on site breakfast, they send their guests to Mikey's with meal vouchers. This is all well and good, but people should be more understanding of the fact that a busy restaurant is going to have a longer wait, and based on what I saw today while dining, I'm sure Mikey's should be getting paid more than whatever they might be getting from partnering with the hotel. For the record, this review is from breakfast on Memorial Day; the restaurant wait time is much more reasonable at other times. Our group is exploring places for Trivia night so a couple checked out Mikey's per a member's recommendation last weekend. They discussed expectations with Mikey's management. We were advise to come as early as possible, around 5:30. Our group leader made reservations for 9 July 22. Some arrived early while other had to work until 5:00. They were apparently prepared as they had tables pulled together to accommodate us. Their was a decent group attending Trivia, I'd speculate @ least 6-7 groups ranging in size from 3 to 8. The good: waitress/servers were friendly & efficient, capturing individual names when placing orders so the checks were customized per individual. Concerns: I would suspect it would be easier on the kitchen to take orders as people arrived. Additional, set the table for the anticipated group. However, they didn't take our order until everyone arrived. They were out of one of the things a party in our wanted so that caused a bit of a delay. Since it was busy, it took quite a bit of time to get just water. It might make their job easier if they just brought water as people are seated? Instead of waiting for at least 2 people in our group to comment they were parched. Delivery of dinners was sporadic. A few dinners were delivered without silverware & getting the servers' attention was not possible so the food got cold. Makes it had to determine how good the food was if it was intended to be warm but you can't eat in until it's cold. Little follow up was offered (again, the staff was pleasant but over worked). The Trivia was good, though a little hard to hear everyone's input at our table since it was so busy (good for Mikey's, not a dis). I suppose one of things that disappointed the most was closing out the tab. As previously insinuated, getting silverware was delayed. As was 'to go' boxes. When we finally got our checks, they added the wrong wine on mine but I'm guessing all the white wines were the same price. (BTW: I didn't see wine on their menu but I wasn't initially looking). I didn't let them know I have the wrong wine identified because I was impatient waiting for the check. After immediately receiving my bill, I provided my credit card for my check, I waited another 10 minutes before approaching the waitress at the register....asking for to go container & check. We're looking at Crown & Anchor to see if we can have a better Trivia experience. This review is truly to let Mikey's know what they can easily modify to correct their service: -have table(s) set with silverware/water, condiments -have someone dedicated to provide invoices, take payments, provide to go containers, (it seemed very much like who ever is available). I didn't get the sense there were table 'sections'. Because I had ordered eggs, I can't really comment on the quality of the food since it was at least 15 minutes between being delivered to our table & when I had silverware. I had also ordered rye toast that came separately. When delivered, I was told they'd bring butter-never came. I think they have a really good potential but if they're trying to bring in dinners for special activities (ie: trivia, etc.), they need to step it up. read more
