I visited M on High Street with my mom and sister over Mother's Day weekend, and overall we had a very enjoyable dinner. The food and cocktails were excellent, and it's clear the restaurant is striving to create an elevated dining experience. One thing that stood out was how thoughtful and inventive the menu felt. You can tell the chef has put a lot of creativity and care into the dishes, balancing familiar favorites with unique twists. It's definitely a cool and welcome addition to the Moorpark dining scene. We particularly enjoyed the Tropical Bird, Emma's Punch, Lemon Drop, and Mango Margarita Mocktail. The Crispy Calamari Strips were a great starter. For entrees, we enjoyed the Lamb Ragu, Parmesan Chicken Milanese, and Wild Mushroom Risotto with added chicken. All were all flavorful, beautifully prepared, and well-executed. The servings were huge (awesome!) and we had leftovers to enjoy the following day. The reason for the 4-star rating comes down to service details. While waiting to be acknowledged, we were overlooked by the hostess for other guests entering even though we were standing right in front of the host stand. Not a big deal, but didn't love the eye roll the hostess gave when I politely piped up that we had been waiting. Was not a great first impression. While our server was wonderful and friendly, there were several moments where empty plates and glasses accumulated on our table for an extended period of time. Our entrees arrived while many of our appetizer dishes and drink glasses were still sitting on the table. With several staff members circulating throughout the dining room, it felt like an opportunity was missed to provide the attentive table maintenance you'd expect from a restaurant aspiring to a fine dining level of service. These were relatively minor issues and seem more related to training and coordination than a lack of effort. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were all very good, and with a little more polish from the support staff and greeters, I think M on High Street could truly become the upscale dining experience it's aiming to be. We'd definitely return and look forward to seeing it continue to grow. read more

The Good: the ambience is charming and inviting. Nice patio seating around a fire pit. The Bad: wait staff and bartenders seem to be confused about who was talking our order and who was responsible for I'd checks. Would not take order of first round of drinks without looking at our ID's. My wife and I are in our sixties, it was embarrassing because they made a huge production out of it. (No other patrons that I saw were subject to this scrutiny) The Ugly: we each had one drink and shared two yellow tail sashimi starters. Upon asking for another round we were rather surprised to find out our party was cut off from the bar. Water and bread only. The sashimi eaten we took the indignation in stride and decided to wait until the barmaid deemed it acceptable to serve us again. Now it gets bad, one of our party became ill and threw up in the bathroom, before we could even find out what was going on with her, barmaid from hell publicly informed us because one of our party was ill we were permanently cut off from the bar. Not considering the food as the culprit of said illness at all. My wife began to feel sick as well and we paid and left. She had trouble walking, speaking and breathing. She became violently ill and the smell of bad fish was overwhelming. I have a portable breathalyzer for guests to use at my home to ensure their safety if they drink. My BAC - .023 , my wife's was .024 obviously not intoxicated. Shame on M on High for such poor judgement and embarrassing their patrons. The first time I went to M on High Street the food was amazing and the ambiance was great. I went for a second time and do not feel the same way. Compared to the outdoor dinning experience I had the first time, eating inside was a letdown and felt lackluster. Their back patio made us feel like we were eating in LA while the inside definitely feels like Moorpark. Everyone's favorite dish here is the Double R Ranch Ribeye, but it wasn't the same. It was cooked well, but they didn't trim the fat enough. It seems like they want the steak to look larger than it really is, so you end up with more than a few bites of pure fat. Not appetizing. I highly recommend the Crispy Calamari strips. They were delicious the first time around and it was the same story this visit. I hope M on High Street is not on its way downhill, but we'll be back in a few months to see if it is! read more

Made a reservation for 3 on a Sunday morning - we were seated a few minutes after we arrived. Our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered regular coffee and was surprised it didn't come with any refills. For brunch I had the build-your-own scramble with asparagus, bacon and mushrooms. The scramble was more of an omelette with limited ingredients, but came with a decent portion of potatoes. Overall just OK for brunch. Restaurant itself is beautiful. Seeing a show at the High Street Theater and wanted to have dinner before the show close to the theater. M on High is just a 2 block walk away - very convenient. And they take and honor reservations! Soon after we sat down, they brought bread to the table. That is dangerous because the bread is soooo good it is tempting to fill up on the bread and be too full for dinner (yes, I did that - my bad!) For my entree I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto ($22) and added salmon ($12 more). My wife went with the Charred Corn and Avocado Salad ($17) with a skewer of shrimp added ($12). Both dishes were huge - more than we could finish. And both were delish!!! Way too stuffed to consider dessert. The only gripe is that service was very slow. Happy that a friend and I were finally able to stumble into M on High for their new brunch hours and menu. We had a great time. The ambiance is there, staff are super friendly and welcoming and the food was tasty. I've been eager to come to M on High for some time now and when they dropped brunch hours and a new lunch menu with cutie cocktails I was all in. Definitely make a reservation. We came for a late brunch and it was definitely busy inside, almost every seat was taken. With a reservation we only had to wait a few minutes so it was nice. I really like the ambiance and decor inside. Very pretty and great for a girls day. They have a beautiful bar in the back and I think they did a great job giving this place a little sparkle. Staff and service here were 5 stars. Everyone was super nice and sweet. Attentive and helpful without feeling like they needed to get you out. My friend and I had such a good time talking and catching up that we were one of the last tables left. They quietly cleared out our plates and cleaned up all around us but never made us feel rushed. Very nice staff here and would come back again to support because of the team. Food and drinks were about 3-4 stars in my books. Everything was good relatively but I need to find my "it" dish and cocktail here. For my cocktail I tried the blue ocean which read as a more tropical drink, it was visually super pretty but taste wise missed the mark. Was a bit bland and not exciting. My friends cocktail called X Marks the Spot was delicious though. From the brunch menu I went with the Cubano sandwich and skinny fries. The sandwich was good, average. I enjoyed my meal but there are other places that have a cubano I've enjoyed more. Let's give a round of applause for those skinny fries though! A generous portion and so crispy and delicious. Paired with their homemade ranch I could have snacked on these all day. Yum. Overall M on High is a fun restaurant to come for a celebration or even just a casual meal with friends. Wow! After a jaunty wine tasting we were looking for somewhere to eat. Patrick recommended M and just WOW! We were blown away. First of all, ambiance. The decor here is superb! Tasteful and colorful and modern. Inspired! As always, when the restrooms have also been tastefully done on theme I know I'm in the right place. That level of attention to detail is what I crave! The food was top notch. My partner ordered the burgundy braised short ribs and they were so tender you could cut them with a spoon. The glaze was perfection and the wild mushroom risotto is not to be missed. I had the lamb with radiatori pasta. I loved it! The menu selections are well curated and we are looking forward to returning! As one would expect of a place with incredible decor and cuisine, our service was also superb. Here's some constrictive criticism, but read on first: I loved their Chard Corn & Avocado salad (order it with salmon). The portion was big! They didn't skimp on the avocado and it's a good size to share with someone (if you order maybe a few small appetizers). The hamburger was a good size, tasty, but nothing spectacular. The Risotto was made well and a good serving size. The Roma baked salmon was amazing. The atmosphere felt relaxed, welcoming, and had a good vibe. I loved the blue decor throughout which matched the plates and glasses. Now for the feedback to management: We dined here for dinner on Sat 1/17. We were a party of 4, and here's some constructive feedback: The shrimp that was served with the risotto dish was clearly under cooked. After we told the waitress and asked her to take the shrimp back and remove from the bill, she came across as rude and it showed on her face. Not sure why when she isn't the chef that made the shrimp. Secondly, when the waitress refilled our water glasses, she would touch the cup at the rim with her fingers where we drink. When asked to replace one cup (note: we just asked for a new cup but didn't tell her why about her fingers to not embarrass her), she appeared irritated and wasn't attentive the remainder of the evening. Managers: Please train waiters about safe hygiene handling of a glass or cup when serving its customers, as to avoid transferring of bacteria. And advise waiters to keep their rudeness to themselves, just because they are asked to remove an item from a plate/bill or provide a new glass. Otherwise, M and High is worth trying if you are in the Moorpark area and want an upscale meal, yet family friendly vibe. Sunday night 7:15 reservation. We arrived and were seated about 5 minutes later. Menus and a great wine, drink menu were distributed. Water was poured and bread was brought out. Our server was pleasant. We ordered drinks and started with a yellowtail sashimi. The bread was a nice crusty exterior with a soft center. The bread is served with this extra creamy butter and an olive tapenade. It really was a great start. Next our appetizer arrives. Beautiful earthenware blue plate with perfectly sliced yellowtail topped with jalapeño, minced pickled red onions and ponzu sauce. A small pitcher of soy sauce accompanied the dish. Here is the first curveball, we don't have our drinks yet, there are no chop sticks. Not that big of a deal but kind of odd. We pivot, use our bread dish and just use a fork to kind of scoop under the fish. The fish is fresh and very flavorful. We finish our appetizer and now here come our drinks. We are probably 30 minutes into our meal. They remove the appetizer plate and set the drinks down. We order our entrees. What I find odd is they don't remove the wine glasses, at this point we have 9 different glasses on the table, water, cocktail and wine. The drinks were good. All served in pretty bar ware. My wife had a gin and tonic, my daughter had the Sol Dulce and I had the Rare Sour. Our entrees come out. A massive short rib on top of a mushroom risotto, for my daughter. The short rib was tender, the risotto still had a slight "bite" to it so it wasn't just a pile of mush. I had the ribeye, it was a big piece of meat on top of smashed fingerling potatoes and asparagus. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the seasoning was perfect. The only thing was, I wish it had a sauce instead of a tiny piece of Gorgonzola butter. The butter was good but I thought it could have used more. My wife had the backed salmon, green beans and fingerling potatoes on the side. Sliced tomatoes sat on top of the salmon and the drizzle of herb butter was on the tomatoes. I thought the herb butter was lost on the dish. The salmon was cooked well. Overall a good solid meal but the experience could have been better. We will definitely comeback and try again. read more

Our first experience at M on High Street was outstanding. The chilean sea bass was buttery, perfectly cooked, and melted in your mouth. The pork chop (which super bummed they don't have on their menu now) was juicy and one of the best we'd ever had. We left raving about the place and couldn't wait to come back. Fast-forward to tonight with a party of 10, and unfortunately it was a completely different story. The vibe is still pleasant with warm lighting, comfortable seating, nice ambiance but the food and service fell way short of our previous visit and frankly short of what this price point demands. The chilean sea bass came out tasting almost fishy (a red flag for this fish) and lacked the delicate sweetness we remembered. The ribeye had a blue cheese topping that was so aggressively pungent it completely overpowered the steak. Service wasn't all that great either. With a table of 10 on a relatively slow weeknight, our server checked in maybe two times total. No one was ever asked if we wanted another round of cocktails (we did), no mid-meal "how is everything? For the money we expected a lot more consistency and attentiveness. Hoping this was just an off night, but we won't be rushing back to find out. Sadly, this visit probably ends our relationship with M on High Street. read more

Made reservations for a Saturday night and when we got there the restaurant couldn't honor it. They said the kitchen was backed up so we had to wait 25 minutes past our reservation. We were a little annoyed and thought that they could at least have seated us and maybe brought out the complimentary bread and we could have ordered a drink while we waited. Once we were sat, it took a little while to get going. They eventually brought out the bread and we were able to get some drinks. Our server was very nice and she was personable so we enjoyed having her as our server. We ordered everything right away as we were starving. We got the Crispy Calamari Strips for an appetizer. That was a different take on calamari and we really enjoyed it, very delicious and the tarter sauce was superb. I ordered the Parmesan Chicken Milanese and that didn't disappoint. Chicken cooked perfectly and the breading was crispy. The red pepper sherry cream sauce needs to be bottled and sold worldwide. Holy cow! What a flavor bomb to the senses. My wife ordered the Hawaiian coconut sweet chili salmon. She really liked it, but thought it could be better considering the delicious appetizer and my entree that she tried. Came here for BRUNCH last weekend. GREAT VARIETY of dishes. Portions are HUGE. This place looks small from the outside but it's big inside with N awesome bar in the back. There's a beautiful covered outdoor patio with lots of shade, along with a fire pit, a cool succulent wall, grassy spot off to the side with seating and lots of pretty areas to take photos. The BURGER, CUBANO, and BREAKFAST SANDWICH were ALL JUICY, TASTY and came with a mountain of skinny fries. If you're a Bloody Mary fan - you must try one here! They're nice n spicy with pepper stuffed olives and mini pickled onions. The staff are very friendly and attentive too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Six of us ate Sunday brunch at M on High restaurant this morning. We can't complain about the quality of the food, which was excellent--all six of us were agreed on that. We ordered omelets, lobster benedicts and bananas foster French toast--all very tasty. My complaints have to do with the wait staff. When we ordered, I requested an extra plate in that my friend and I were going to split the Benedict and the French toast. When the order arrived, no extra plate. I had to ask 3 times before that extra plate was delivered. By then the Benedict was no longer warm so we sent it back to be warmed. When returned, the original English muffin was hard as a rock. Why not replace the English muffin with a freshly toasted one so the item tastes fresh? The French toast was delivered without the whipped cream mentioned in the menu. When I brought that to the attention of the waitress, she replied that they were almost done making it in the kitchen. WHY DELIVER A FOOD ITEM TO A CUSTOMER WHICH IS MISSING AN ADVERTISED INGREDIENT? Made no sense. And when the French toast was initially delivered, why did the waitress not mention the missing whipped cream ? Why did the customer have to bring it to her attention? Then came the total confusion on the bill. One couple who were supposed to join us had to cancel at the last minute. So at the inception I told the waitress I would be ordering food to go for them which I would be the only person paying. The group check (3 couples), would be divided equally and would be paid with 3 credit cards which included mine. When the bills arrived (one for the group and 1 for the order to go), I again explained which credit cards would be charged. After that explanation, the waitress came back again to clarify. When the credit cards came back with the bills, the waitress apologized as she charged my card for everything. She then said she voided that bill and corrected, but now we will have to examine our monthly credit card bill to ensure that the credit was properly submitted. Mistakes happen, but when you go over something 2-3 times, you would expect things to then go as detailed. The rest of our group said they would definitely return to M on High. Me? After a pleasant dinner at M on High Restaurant, I decided to stop in for some drinks on a Friday night at their outdoor patio. The restaurant was super busy at 5:30pm but the outdoor bar space was relatively quiet! The bar just opened at 5pm. Given they just opened, there was no wait at the bar. When it came time for a second drink, a group of women and others were in line for drinks. Way too many people and drinks for one person. It took my husband at least 20 minutes to get a second drink. Additional people are needed. When it gets crowded, I'm not sure how they will handle more guests unless they added additional help. Also as a suggestion rather than waiting in line, it might be nice to order from your table on your phone! If this is the norm at this restaurant on drink turn over time, I would suggest visiting when they open or a weekday. With that said, we appreciated the kind bartender! read more

For dessert, we had salted caramel cookies and a sweet pistachio & white chocolate pudding. Not a fan of sweets but the pudding was actually really good! I have eaten here at least four times now, and each time was a relaxing, enjoyable, and eminently tasty experience. The most recent time was a bit over a week ago; we were commemorating the passing of a dear friend and we took her widower husband out and treated him to dinner. We began the meal with a heaping plate of perfectly deep-fried shoestring potatoes, covered in garlic and Parmesan cheese. I had the Filet Mignon, my wife and our friend had the Short Ribs. My Filet was excellent; tender, juicy and flavorful, covered in a delicate lobster sauce, which complemented the meat perfectly. Our server was attentive, kind, and thoughtful. The ambience is comforting and warm and the only thing keeping me from eating there more often are the prices. I'm not saying they're overpriced; I'm saying that this is a high-end restaurant and, as should be expected, its expensive.
