It's a homey restaurant and you can eat your food there or take it to go. The staff is friendly and helpful. The meals are very reasonably priced; you get a main, 2 sides, and your choice of hushpuppies or a roll for $9.20 (as of March 2026). The tray of food was really heavy, they really pack it full! The BBQ Chicken was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. I enjoyed both my sides, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and Squash & Onions. The Hushpuppies were perfectly fried and delicious. I also tried their Banana Pudding, I loved the chunks of banana and the cookies. The menu/offerings change by the day and are posted on their website. I can't wait to try something new on my next visit!

I was at a job near this location and thought to buy some dinner entrees to take home. The folks here load you up with good Southern cooking at blue-collar prices. They feature a rotating daily menu. For twenty bucks I got two entrees, each with two sides and hushpuppies. The staff prepare your orders for you like in a cafeteria. You can sit down to eat though most clients order take-out. I was in the group ordering take-out. Home Plate also has a drive-through window.

I've passed by this mysterious yellow building so many times this past year and finally decided to…read moredrop by. The inside I have to say is a little dim, but the excellent hospitality I was greeted with totally counteracted that. They have a wide range of items on their menu at VERY awesome prices. You can get a combination plate which includes your main entree and two sides for $6-$8. They have your usual chopped BBQ, fried chicken, fried turkey, cubed steak and for those of you more adventurous ones out there - pigs feet! You have to get there early though. I was there at 12:30 PM and they were already out of chopped BBQ. Bad for those of us who come later in the day, but a good sign that their food is great. I ordered the fried chicken combination (you can pick from white or dark meat) with a side of candied yams and collard greens. I washed it down with a delicious, but outrageously sweet cup of lemonade. I literally had to cut the lemonade with a full cup of water, but it was good nonetheless. Then, you have the opposite end of the spectrum with the food being pretty heavily seasoned. I personally don't see this as a bad thing because I've been to a string of restaurants lately where the food was just way too bland. So this is just a warning for those of you who don't like your food too salty. The fried chicken was decent, but the yams and collard greens were the best I've had in a really long time. They also offer different desserts daily. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner M-F, but they're only open for breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. If you haven't tried this place before, please do. Both food AND service is great, which believe it or not, is a very rare combination these days.

However this last visit we chose to eat from Ex-Voto and ordered the Carnitas Crunchwrap. It was totally delicious, worth the price ( it was huge) and my husband enjoyed his Carnitas Burrito that was equally good. However, in looking at the receipt after getting home, we noticed an added 10% living wage service charge that we did not notice at the restaurant, and no signage about this that we could see. We always tip well and thus left a tip of 25%, so in all, they received an extra 35%. It would be good to be informed about this up front, or better yet, that they are paid more to not need that extra charge. If we had been told, we may have adjusted our tip accordingly. Just a heads up to others, but definitely eat there!

I ordered food from one vendor then a drink from another, then my food was ready to be picked up and my drink right after that. If I ever end up in North Carolina again, I'll likely be back--pretty much every vendor had food I wanted to try, and there's ample seating with free wifi and water. Love the zine vending machine, I didn't have time to visit a museum and this is such a cool way for tourists to learn about the area! Right around the corner there's a big hill park thing with a skate ramp, playground, and a little free library where I grabbed a book from a favorite series of mine! Only annoying thing is that you have to pay for parking, but that seems to be the situation for this whole area.
