Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Pretty busy Sunday morning, but managed to get a seat at the open bar. Service from the bartender was great, and food came out in a timely manner. Food itself was quite nice, hot chocolate hit all the right notes, and the Olliebollen (first time) was a unique sweet treat to have, basically more doughy donut holes. The Hot Mess was the only thing I was slightly disappointed by, as some of the sausage I got in it was noticeably colder than the rest of the dish (but definitely not refrigerator cold). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall nice place, very large and open dining area with two levels, I'd come back to try again![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I stopped for dinner, and it was great! I ordered the luxemburger and some cheese curds. The cheese curds had amazing cheese pulls. I thought my burger was good, but it was a little saltier than I prefer. My server was great! However, I did wish she checked up on me more. I ran out of water and was not able to get a refill since our server was so busy hosting other people. Our server Kelly was wonderful! She was super charismatic and helpful. I tried the farmers omelette with potatoes and toast and it did not disappoint. The basil aioli was delicious. On a recent visit to Madison, Café Hollander was recommended and while we were hesitant due to its location in an outlet mall, we made our way there and are glad we did! Café Hollander is a grandiose spot with clear nods to European cafes and pubs. Lots a heavy woods, industrial style fixtures, big spaces, high ceilings and ornate details throughout. Definitely takes you out of the mall and sends you overseas. We grabbed a high top in the bar area and were greeted by our server within minutes. It' was brunch time, so we scoped out the Bloody Mary menu and both landed on the Bloody Fresca, which is a Bloody Mary with a few spicy additions including cholula and a jalapeño stuffed olive! It was delish and apparently having a small beer chaser is a thing...maybe a midwestern thing? Either way, it worked and I appreciated it. For food we started with the crispy Brussels and they were phenomenal. Pepitas, crema and parm on Brussels? Don't think I can have them any other way now! I went with the meatloaf sided with asparagus. The meatloaf was juicy and packed with seasoning and veggies. Absolutely loved the crisp they put on the edges of the meatloaf. A nice touch! The asparagus was standard, a tad al dente for my liking, but it was okay. My pal went Mediterranean with the falafel bowl. He ate every bit of it, so success. Overall, we really enjoyed our time, cocktails and food at Café Hollander. Outlet mall or not, worth a stop by!

Great brewpub with a nice menu and excellent beer list (particularly Belgian beers). They also serve brunch all day, which is a nice feature. The building itself is very modern and has a classic brewpub feel to it. We got super friendly service from our server, and the beers were served properly in the appropriate glassware. The breakfast Sammy was nice. I love a good pretzel bun and this one was overflowing with cheese and ham. And the fries were really good as well. Definitely a great choice if you're in Madison.

It's one of our favorites for food! My husband raves about their beer menu as well. We have been to several café Hollander locations and the Hilldale location is our favorite. Really nice atmosphere with tons of seating. In the summer months, they open up the garage doors to bring the outside in. And in the winter month, they have igloos that you can eat outside with heaters. This requires an advanced reservation and can be quite pricey unless you have a larger group. The service can be hit or miss. Free parking makes up for it as well as the ability to shop around Hilldale mall. Tip: get the beer, cheese sauce, and garlic aïoli to dip your french fries in!

The last couple of times I have been here I've walked away pretty happy with everything. It doesn't stand out on my list of top choices in Madison but is a great option for when you're in the area or you're looking for a reasonably priced brunch for a larger group. Love being able to sit outside in the summer as it's a bit loud inside, and service has been a lot more consistent the last times I've been. Today we had a large group come in for brunch and the wait was barely 20 min despite it being quite busy. I'm obsessed with the blackened garlic aioli and that avocado smorrebrod was great (I added chorizo).

I took out dinner from here on a Saturday evening. There were people waiting for seats. The place had good ambiance. Tomato bisque was a nice flavorful soup. Hot chicken sandwich could have had some more heat and flavor. Grilled beef tosti with sweet potato fries was my other entree. Grilled beef sandwich tosti could have been a bit more flavorful.

I've come here a couple of times for dinner and was not ever impressed but did recently come here for brunch and preferred the brunch over the dinner menu. My husband and I came here around 11 am on a Sunday and were able to get seated at one of the high top tables without a wait. We were quoted a 20 minute wait to get a table with service. The only downside to sitting at the high top tables is that you need to order at the bar and that can be a little challenging depending on how many people there are. I got the fried chicken and French toast and my husband got the pancakes. Both items were okay. I also got one of the bloody Mary's that had cilantro infused in it and wasn't too big of a fan. I would come back for happy hour since they have an extensive cocktail menu and some of the flavors seem interesting. They also have trivia on Tuesdays at 7:30 pm.

Our food was great and the service was great. We dined in the outside igloo closest to Macy's - it was 19 degrees outside. Our igloo heater, that's mounted near the ceiling, was not tilted down. As a result the heat went up, not down. We wore our coats and hats and huddled together. We noticed the igloo next to us - their heater was tilted down and the occupants were not wearing coats/hats. Our igloo experience was disappointing. read more

Rented a globe on two different occasions. It was really fun and something different to do with friends and family. On both occasions, the 90 minute booking restriction, was not enough time. I understand the globes are in high demand. Maybe let one of the globes be scheduled by the hour and available to be booked for multiple hours ?! Just an idea. Otherwise, the globes are a great fun-- a blue tooth speaker to play your own music, indoor heater, pillows and blankets are a nice touch and very cozy. Staff, both times, were very attentive and kept us on track so we were able to finish eating in our allotted time. That probably contributed to the feeling of being rushed, but it was helpful. All in all, the globes are great- so good, you want more time! Thank you!!! read more

The system to get a text or call needs to be updated. We didn't get ours till 9 pm that our table was ready. When we were there at 1pm. The wait was 30 minutes we were sat in 15. That part was great..it was packed there. Ordered a water and badger bloody. That was good. Missed the Stella bread,wish they told me they were out whole reason I ordered that one. But it was good. Ordered our food , 2 regular eggs Benedict. Came out so fast. It was odd how fast for one a sit down place and two how busy they were. Our food was Luke warm. Hardly any sauce on it. The ham was just sliced lunch meat that was cold , not Canadian bacon. We wouldn't order it again. The breakfast potatoes that came with Luke warm but really yummy. read more

Always an adventure. I've been to this location twice and the other in Wauwatosa twice. While the other has the beautiful location, this one is in a great area next to shopping and upscale apartments. Ample parking, clean restrooms, pleasant atmosphere, great beer selection and interesting food. I got the meatloaf, pictured here. I came here one other time specifically for Bloody Mary's, to which their selection is delectable. Please add a location in Phoenix! read more

I was back in Madison visiting family and remembered my friends had always mentioned Café Hollander having good food, so we went for brunch. The place was less busy than I usually saw it being in the past, so I was happy we got seated right away. I got a Bloody Badger Bloody Mary to drink and man that was a good bloody. I love Stella's spicy cheese bread, so I was happy to see that on the skewer. I got The Hot Mess, my mom ordered the breakfast tacos, and my dad got the Harvest Omelette. We all enjoyed our food and thought the breakfast potatoes had great flavor! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because my Bloody Mary and the food came out rather slow and our waitress got the manager to check in on when our food would be done (without us asking). We got it quickly after that, but we were definitely looking around for a while before that. Overall, I think I'll consider going back next time I'm in town! read more

We went there on a Sunday around noon, so there were a ton of people (and dogs) there and the service was very slow. They were out of a couple tap beers which was disappointing. We got the cheese curds as an appetizer. They were very melty and the Sriracha ranch they came with was very tasty. I got the Fried Chicken and French Toast. It came with a very delicious maple syrup and a fried egg on top. The whole thing was spectacular and hit the spot perfectly. We also got the Uitsmijter Croissant. It was fine, but forgettable. They are very dog-friendly. There were a ton of dogs on the patio, they gave my dog a cup of water, and there was a decent amount of room for dogs to lie down. I think the experience would've been better if we had gone at a less busy time, but the food was great and the vibe was nice. read more

Always a salad choice for brunch. This restaurant has a large variety of breakfast cocktails and are famous for their different types of bloody Mary's. They have many options from French toast to skillets to salmon on toast. I would highly recommend the French toast if you're craving something sweet and the biscuits and gravy if you're leaning more towards savory. I've been here quite a few times and I've never had a bad brunch. It can get very busy on the weekend so be aware of that, but this is a great place to get brunch with friends and family. read more

Thank you, brunch! Truly the best bloodies in town. Cafe Hollander is an eclectic brunch hotspot with bloodies that pack a punch. Stopped by on a Sunday around noonish and ran into quite the wait time. Luckily, they have an online system with Yelp that helps you track your place in line, how cool! Waited maybe half an hour, greeted by a friendly server who quickly brought us our Bloody Marys. One of my favorite places to go for a weekend brunch in Madison. The berries and brie French toast is top notch as well as their croissant breakfast sandwiches. The menu does rotate every so often so your favorites might come and go but they never go far. Café Hollander has an exclusive coffee roast called the Lowlands blend that is up there with my favorite coffees. If you want a little more than caffeine, I'd also recommend one of their Bloody Mary's with a chaser of a Dutch lager. There is often a wait for a table if you go during classic weekend Brunch hours but always well worth it. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a vibrant spot to kick off your Sunday morning! read more

Best place to grab a drink, have a meal with family and friends, or celebrate a special occasion! The food is nice and diverse which matches the Holland decor and atmosphere. A great twist on some popular Holland dishes as well as some American classics! Nice selection of cocktails and beers. We had made a reservation for one of their outside igloos to celebrate my daughter's 22nd birthday for brunch. I would have to say service was excellent, food was tremendous, and the environment was a lot of fun, We sat outside in the igloo nice and warm, outside temp was 11 degrees. Our group of five stopped by for a birthday dinner on a busy Friday evening. Family who lives in Madison highly recommended this place. The place is huge with lots of seating and was packed on this Friday evening. The staff were friendly, but service was kinda on the slower side. Huge beer and wine selection. The couple beers I had were extremely good!! The food however seemed very sub-par and was not all that it was hyped up to be. I had the "Vedgie" - a veggie burger, which was not all that great. Dry and was lacking in any flavor. Two others had the "Sconnie", and they felt it was mediocre at best. (Did taste great the next morning after being nuked for a few minutes in the microwave). Staff brought out complimentary dessert on account of us being out and celebrating a birthday. :) read more

We frequented Cafe Hollander a few times a year while a family member was attending UW Madison. It was a short drive away from the Capitol right by Target. There is a parking lot, but as it is by an outdoor mall, it fills up and you could end up driving around a bit. There can he waits at time, but after the first time we began using the yelp wait list and we able to get in with less of a wait. Service is okay. Not amazing and not bad. The beer list is massive. They have wine and cocktails as well. The food is okay. Nothing outstanding but nothing was ever disappointing either. read more

Great service! The prices are a little higher on the scale for sandwiches and burgers, but you can tell all of their food is locally sourced and the atmosphere of the restaurant is great. I highly recommend the Blackberry Turkey sandwich (sub potato bread for the Troubadour bun!) & the Benelux salad. If you love sweet and spicy combinations, this sandwich is definitely for you! I'll definitely be back to try the Kulminator and their brunch menu! read more

Fantastic place to chill on a sunday afternoon. Perfect Chill, spacious Vibe to have some drinks. Ordered the quiche and fries to share which turnes out better than expected - light eggy quiche with a large portion of crispy fries. Order the beer sampler and had 4 interesting beers with Citradelic being my favourite as it smelt and tasted very zesty. Other beers included boerreding pilsner, piraat (very champagne like) and troub blonde (easy to drink hoppy beer) Overall: 5/5 for ambience 5/5 for beer selection 4.5/5 for food. read more

Even though the place was bustling with customers for Labor Day brunch, we didn't have to wait to get a table (the restaurant is very spacious with lots of seating). The menu has a lot of unique choices that blended the Belgian theme with local ingredients. If Texan/Mexican food is TexMex, what do you call the Wisconsin/Belgian version? Wisgian? Belgonsin? WisBelg? Well, that's what this was. Everything was delicious. Turns out almost every restaurant in small town Middleton was closed on Labor Day, so we ended up returning for dinner that night. Absolutely terrible... super disappointed! It was a Wednesday afternoon and my family and I had just left the hospital for some medical testing. We decided to try this out since I have heard decent things from friends in the past and we needed a good meal and laugh after my diagnosis. As soon as we sat down the waitress accidently dumped water all over the table and my husband. Accidents happen and we felt HORRIBLE for her. But then she didn't come back to clean up the pools of water on our table or give my husband any kind of rag to dry up the water all over him and his seat. We ended up asking other staff for some rags or something to clean up the mess (even though it really wasn't our responsibility as paying customers/guests) and nobody helped. 15 minutes later the waitress returned with our other beverages and we told her we needed a rag to wipe everything up. After everything we asked to speak to a manager, waited for five minutes for nobody to show up, and decided it was a lost cause. Nothing was taken off of our bill for making my husband sit in cold wet water for an hour while eating his meal. Nothing was said to apologize for the incident by management... nobody did anything. To make matters worse, just now we received threatening Facebook messages from the waitress' boyfriend for not leaving a tip. Real professional. I felt absolutely AWFUL for not leaving a tip but not only were we absolutely miserable, the service was extremely slow and we felt very neglected. I have NEVER left a restaurant without giving at least a 20% tip and we really felt bad, but why should we tip when our experience was absolutely terrible? Isn't that the point of the service industry? Provide exceptional service and receive compensation??? It's not like we haven't been servers before... The food was okay, nothing special. The drinks were pretty average--bloody mary was drowning in Worcestershire sauce so if you like it that way (like my mom) then it will be perfect for you. All in all, if you want an experience, don't come here. The Great Dane is within walking distance and a much better option. Management needs to step up. read more

I've been here many times and have come back for it's location, originality, Euro-Disney atmosphere, and a solid menu. The food has been good. Not great, but on par with similar restaurants with similar prices. The beer selection is a unique selling point, though some of the tasty Belgian imports come with Champs Elysees prices, which are steep for our Midwestern market. Or at least or me. The wait staff have generally been friendly and accommodating as well. But what really puts them in a 1 star category for me is the unfriendliness of the host staff. I feel I'm imposing whenever I walk in that front door. I can't even place all the blame on the host staff themselves as someone must be responsible not only for providing them training on their jobs but also for setting and maintaining some sort of behavior standards. That's not happening. I'll avoid Café Hollander from here out, unless I have a get an undeniable craving to feel disrespected while paying too much for my beer. read more

My friends brought me here last night to celebrate my recent relocation from Austin to Madison. The Good: The place is huge, ambiance is great. I love the garage door concept, I counted six, which open up during the summer season. I love beer and the fact that they have a room (Bier Den) stacked with craft Belgian beer is really awesome. The Bad: A little on the expensive side. We have two rounds of Pinot Noir, some appetizers and 3 entrees, and our bill was close to $200 (about $66 each x 3). I ordered a Basque Mussel and I thought the mussels came from a third-world country -- they were really small. Service was a little slow and our server got the wine wrong the first time. read more

Few cities this size can compete with Madison as a foodie hub, and we just keep circling back to Cafe' Hollander. The energetic vibe and different moods captured when decorating for variuos holidays helps make every time we eat there a special occasion. Servers and all the staff seem happy to be serving us, and this adds to the joy we have being there. The food is consistently outstanding, and trying to choose between our most favorite entrees, which there are many, is a wonderfully difficult decision! Cafe Hollander is very hit or miss. Sometimes the food is delicious, but sometimes it is laughably underwhelming. Today I ordered the classic waffles, which at not places would be a good stack and would come with maple syrup or something of the sort. Instead, I was handed one pitiful waffle and had to pay extra just to get maple syrup, making my meal $10.50 for practically no food. My drink had some weird chunk of something in it, and my server was very distant. On top of that, the wicker chairs are ugly. The only reason I am not giving them one star is because I have gone there previously and the food was decent. Overall, not worth the money read more

My friend and I popped down to Hollander from where I live nearby. My friend is allergic to garlic and our server Mary G. was VERY accommodating. She and Nativity - the manager - made sure there was NO garlic in any of the prepared ingredients or final dish. In fact, a special dish was made that turned out to be very delicious. Both Mary and Nativity checked back several times to make sure everything was OK. Throughout the dinner, Mary was a very friendly and conscientious server. Then, as a final treat, they informed us the dinner was compliments of the restaurant. So all in all, it was a very nice experience. We will be back regularly. read more

One of the best places to eat in Madison. Great food, cozy atmosphere, and wonderful customer service. I went here for dinner with family and we were amazed at how well they were following COVID protocols while still providing a comfortable and fun environment. I made a reservation for five people, yet my wife and I were shoved into a hidden corner by the bathroom, while the other party we were with, who had no reservation, were given a prime seat by the window. They couldn't even find us at first because we were so out of sight. We eventually had to leave our uncomfortable spot and join them. We recently had lunch in one of winter globes, and the heater was out. They had tower heaters in there, but they couldn't keep up with the cold, it was still a fun experience, but I wish someone would have told us ahead of time. I had to ask to turn the heater on before they told us it was broken. The globes aren't cheap to reserve either, so some credit back would have been nice to compensate for no heat. Very disappointing first time there. Waited forever to get our table for dinner. We had to go check after 45+ minutes at the bar. They said the called but nothing on phone or text from them. Beer prices are outrageous for the amount. Food is bar food at best at almost $14 for a toasted sandwich with shaved ham and 2 PCs of bacon. Fries were way over salted. I go here when I want something other than a veggie burger as my vegetarian option. It has great choices for me as a vegetarian, but also for my husband who is not. I love everything I have ordered with exception of the cheese board. I didn't like any of the cheese on it, but that is more on me than the restaurant I guess. read more

This place is the absolute best. I had Sebastian as my waiter and he was fabulous. Great service! Ask for him if you go there!!! Food is also amazing!!! I came here with my mom for the first time. I can tell you this was amazing. They gave beverages no questions asked, food was an amazing portion size, and staff were perfect.
