First impressions were bad. The waitresses (3 of them) walk by us making an effort to NOT make eye contact. After about 5 minutes a waitress came up and said, "I don't think so". Not, hello, welcome or how many in your party? Then she said, "Well, let me see". She walked over to a table with a reserved sign on it and prepped it for us. Ya! This place was good...not great. I was happy to see lots of seafood options on the breakfast special menu. Crab omelet, seafood scramble, halibut cakes and more. I got the crab omelet for $18.95. It was filled with plenty of fresh crab but the eggs were over cooked and it was a bit on the bland side. A little dash of Tabasco took care of that. My husband had the breakfast hash, oysters, garlic, spinach. He said it was good. They have the makings for a superb breakfast place with live jazz and a great looking menu. It feel just a bit short. My boyfriend and I ate here as a reward for ourselves and as a celebration of our 8 month "anniversary". We are both seafood lovers so we decided to check it out. I had my eyes on the fish sandwich but changed my order to the 1/2 bucket of steamed clams. It was delicious, but being born and raises in Washington I would have preferred it without the fancy things they were soaked in. On top of the bowl of clams was a pico de gayo like mixture and it had quite a bit of garlic. It was good, but next time I'm asking for just the clams. They were really busy (which I've learned is a good thing) so it took a while to get our food but we took our time and enjoyed a nice glass of local wine. Nothing terrible, nothing special. Good service and friendly staff. Ordered half a dozen of oysters and the turkey/cranberry sandwich. This spot is very similar to the city at which it resides (Eureka). You would never go to Eureka specifically to seek out anything in particular. In a similar manner, you would probably never go to this restaurant specifically for any dish. However, both are decent pit stops that happen to be in the way and won't disappoint. read more

OK it is listed as $$$, but it is worth it! The food is outstanding and delicious, with very large portions..... you will not walk away hungry! There were 4 of us: 2 has halibut which was the best, 1 had the fried mixed seafood plate, very generous portions and 1 person had NY steak with Gorgonzola cheese. WOW!!! Great meal! My only complaint is I wish cooks these days would learn how to cook an egg over easy correctly mine was over medium at best. From out of town. Decided to give it a try because they mentioned oysters on the menu. Decided to share a sample platter since everything on the menu was 20 bucks or higher. Platter has deep fried oysters and scallops that practically melted in my mouth! Wasn't in love with the Italian bread crumb batter, but prawns, cod, scallops, clam strips and oysters were so fresh and cooked to perfection! Service was friendly and server was very accommodating to my request to split a dish. No attitude that some servers get. I would definitely recommend this place. Not just a bar. The food was great. I had scallops. 15 pieces! The salad was cold and crisp, the rice was cooked perfect and the veges were crunchy. All in all I was very surprised. I really like this joint! Came here for my second time last week with two friends. It's rare that everyone at the table really likes what they order, all three of us where very happy with our meals. This place is great for fish and chips! I ordered the ferndale which came with some really delicious sausage and three kinds of cheese. Bloody Mary here isn't bad either doesn't top shantys bloody Mary but I doubt many places do! The food is the right amount- price point at lunch time is about 12-15 dollars a person. Drinks included for three people our meal came to 50.00. I will be back here for certain. Friendly customer service! I was concerned I might not like the clam chowder the waitress let me know if I didn't care for it I could get something else. BTW the clam chowder here is really good, not too thick like some places that serve more of a gravy than a soup. I liked everything on my plate! Great place to go for brunch or lunch time! This was a tough one. Went for lunch today and for the most part the service was good. One of the meals (Fish and chips) was great but the other was their meatloaf special which was terrible. Our rub is that when the waiter could clearly see my other half was not eating the food he did not ask if everything was OK. Instead we told him the meatloaf was terrible. His response was I will tell the cook. Did not even offer to either credit part of it or even remove it from bill and offer something else. Just a shame as now they have lost customers as a result. You will notice the obvious that the management either could care less about his reviews or that he does not check them as he has not responded to single negative review posted :( read more

Really we wanted a lunchy bruncy place with a mimosa and some atmosphere, and we stumbled into several joints that were not that. The food was good. I ate a Cesar Salad with roasted chicken and had a really well mixed mimosa. It was before 11 a.m. and the kitchen wasn't making salads but the waitress asked the chef if he would fix me one anyway and he obliged. The building is awesome and the location is great, but it's definitely focused on tourists. The food was fairly pricey and average tasting at best, except the spicy shrimp bisque, which was quite good. I got the clam fritters and they were pretty lame. They were extremely thin, eggy and had no seasoning. My wife got the deep-fried sampler and it was much better quality. Hard to go wrong with deep frying though. The service was very good and we got all the attention we needed. Overall I'd say it was OK, but I wouldn't go back for a full meal. What an odd place. An incredible location in the center of downtown, and today it was so packed for lunch that people were being turned away at the door. I ordered the roast beef sandwich, and was disapointed because it wasn't toasted, but that was my mistake, so I'll let it go... The fruit I ordered was quite nice though. I would guess that everyone except the blond waitress was easily 20 years my senior here, which was a bit unnerving because I'm almost 40. I guess the old people know what they like.
