I have been dining at this Café Zupas location off Broadway Avenue on and off for the past three years. Over this time, my experiences have been a bit of a mixed bag regarding food quality and accuracy, though the service and atmosphere have always been consistently good. The environment inside the restaurant is always clean and welcoming, and the staff members are pleasant and helpful during my visits. On the food side, their salads are excellent and highly reliable. I can always count on getting a fresh, well-made salad every time I order. However, other aspects of the menu tend to fluctuate. The soups are hit-or-miss; there are days when they are delicious, but other times they are served cold and taste slightly off. My biggest recurring issue is with order accuracy regarding their chocolate-dipped strawberries. I specifically request a plain dipped strawberry because the hard candy pearls on the decorated ones hurt my teeth. Despite making this request, I frequently get home only to find they packed the strawberry with the hard toppings anyway. While the great service and atmosphere make for an enjoyable visit, the inconsistency with the soup quality and the lack of attention to simple order modifications makes the overall food experience unpredictable. read more

I ordered a bowl online that was a lettuce base with toppings and sweet potatoes. I had the sweet potatoes removed and they forgot to add an additional topping, it was a pretty pitiful bowl. You would think they would add a little extra lettuce if they weren't adding the bulk of the sweet potatoes but they did not. Barely felt like a side salad. read more

Have been coming here for years. The past year the place has been so dirty. Floor is never swept. Tables and chairs are dirty. Sometimes the juices aren't fresh or filled. Spills on the floor and juice bar area and never cleaned up. When I went a couple weeks ago the dishes had food stuck on it as if it wasn't cleaned. Just can't handle how filthy the place is even when they have opened at 11am and I have shown up shortly after. Super sad because this has been my wife and my go to place when we have lunch each week downtown. Time to find somewhere else to eat. read more

I went in to get a soup after a bad day and Dayanara and Remmi were just so lovely. They were attentive, had excellent customer service, and even asked me about my day and carried a conversation that they absolutely did not have to when I really needed it. I am so disappointed. I have eaten here many times and loved it. However, this time around was TERRIBLE. I ordered a turkey avocado bacon sandwich with a berry salad. The sandwich had ONE singular tiny slice of avocado on the entire sandwich. Truly shocked. The salad is usually my favorite, but the lettuce was BROWN AND BLACK, soggy, and rotten. Disgusting. This looked like just the place where we could order dinner delivered to our downtown hotel after a very long day. I follow a keto diet, I was starving and there were many options marked "keto" on the menu. Great! I ordered a pick-2 meal with a small steak protein bowl and a small soup. The soup was ok. The protein bowl though-- if you choose something called a "protein bowl" you are expecting something with a reasonable amount of protein in it. There was plenty of lettuce and various shreds of other vegetables and some ranch dressing. But where was the steak in this "protein bowl"? I went digging for it to see if there was any, or if it had been left off completely. I found two (2) tiny pieces of "steak" -- one was a thin piece about a centimeter square, and the other one was about half that size. It didn't even add up to one bite of "steak." It was truly ridiculous. Please understand: It wasn't a "small portion" of steak. It was not even a respectable amount for a "garnish." There was basically no steak in it. At the end of the meal I was still starving, but too bad for me, I was stuck in the hotel with no other food and I'd spent the money I'd budgeted for dinner. I would never give this place another try. They get two stars instead of one because the small portions that did arrive were edible. It just was in no way something that could honestly be described as a "protein bowl." Also I asked for the bread and strawberry to be left off because those items are not on a keto diet and also I don't like to waste food. But the order came with the bread and strawberry, and I was so starving after I ate the "protein bowl" and soup, I was very tempted to eat those carb. But I didn't. I threw them out. First time visiting Cafe Zupas yesterday and it will be my last. I was super excited to make a custom bowl and they gave me practically crumbs of chicken. They were clearly out and instead of taking a minute to grab fresh chicken I was left with the crumbs. It then took forever to get rung up. Normally I would give Zupas a 5-star review, but the waiting in line yesterday was cringe-worthy. Management needs to take note: competition between online orders and foot-traffic should always favor foot traffic. Yesterday's visit, I suppose, came during a mad rush of sorts, and it was clearly obvious to the numerous patrons standing around that the assembly-line process at Zupas needs serious work. I felt for the poor girl at the register who repeatedly had to run back and forth along the prep line to gather people's soups, salads and sandwiches. The soups take almost no time to prep (i.e. pour into a bowl, place lid) and therefore there were 9-12 sitting on the counter, left to her to determine what each one was. Recipe for disaster since none were labeled so it's up to her keen eye to not make a mistake. What she really needed was a line worker filling each order to a tray or go box so she could stay at the register to more efficiently ring up orders and give people drink cups. (And BTW, for cleanliness' sake, don't serve empty cups upside down. We don't know what's touched that counter, I now don't want to put my lips to that cup!) So, yeah, watching a bunch of busy-bee workers try not to trip over each other while buzzing around trying to frantically fill orders was a definite buzzkill. They all looked lost. We're out of this soup! We're out of that! Where's the thing that's supposed to go with this order? I had ordered a salad and sandwich, and they were both prepped within two or three minutes of my telling them my order. And the next 10-12 minutes was excruciating watching them try to fill a half-dozen orders in front of me, taking 3-4 minutes per order. I stood there patiently waiting my turn. This epic farce was bewildering, and the time it took gave me plenty if time to chat with the woman in front of me, who had not ordered ahead but was definitely picking up dinner for her family of four. She agreed things should be labeled (a la Starbucks) and that walk-ins should take priority over online orders. Now, I love their creme-brûlée desserts but the two times I have been here in the past month there have been none in the case. Why? I didn't bother to ask, they were having enough of a time without me asking for something they clearly didn't have. It would have been piling on. Speaking of piling on, since it felt there were a dozen chickens with their heads - sorry, workers - you'd think they would have had time to wipe a table or remove the gargantuan pile of dishes left at the disposal station. Guests are nice enough to do their part and clear their table, but no guest is carrying 15 plates and bowls back to the kitchen for you. In all, this felt more like a cafeteria than a kitchen. But still...Zupas is trying something different in the fast-casual space. Salads and soups and salads are nothing new, but the choices are numerous, and the prices completely fair. I have tried Zupas now 3 or 4 times and the salads and sandwiches have all ranged from good to great. I like that this is one place you can feel like you're eating healthy without feeling like you're left wishing for more. The roll and the chocolate dipped strawberry goes a long way toward customer goodwill. It feels as if the design here is to assure customers have a great, complete meal. And I suppose, considering how Covid changed the restaurant industry, they are trying their hardest with the quandary of online versus in-person order competition. Plain-old drive thrus don't have to deal with this issue so much, but when all of your orders has to step through the front door, your block-up becomes the lone girl at the cash register. Streamline you systems, clean up your dining area, and get that girl some help. Then I'll be back, but only if I see fewer than three people in line. read more

The restaurant was filthy! Trash everywhere because the trash cans and dish bins were over flowing. Tables had not be wiped down what appeared to be a very long time. They were also out of many salad items. The person that served me had the title of "Hospitality Lead" on his name tag. I asked if it had been busy and he said no not really. Staff was standing around and chatting when there was clearly a lot to be done. I heard the person in front of me being told they were out of eggs. I asked if they were out of egg for my salad and was told "no we have some in the back. If you really want them, I can go get them." Also the drinks, lemonade, etc were empty at 7:30 on a Friday. I went into the restroom and turned right around and walked out. Filthy in there too. I noticed there are cameras all over the restaurant but clearly no one is looking at them. I was really looking forward to the same great food and service that I have gotten from the other Cafe Zupas restaurants that I have been to. Alas that was not meant to be. I was disappointed on both fronts. After I ordered my soup and was sent down the line I was ignored when I went over to the area to order my dessert. When the lady finally came over to the counter she started helping the people behind me instead of helping me. She gave me a dirty look when I told her that I had been waiting there to finish my order. After I let her know what I wanted she started making it and then instead gave me the dessert she had made for the people behind me. My order was to go and I didn't realize it until later when I went to eat my food and was disappointed because I wanted the dessert with brownies and strawberries but instead got pistachios and strawberries.
