I went last night for the first time and was greeted by some very nice womam workibg there. We sat down and immediateltmy had our drink order fufilled. The food was delicious! Used to be one of a favorite places, the onion rings were so ahhhmazing! BUT.... not when we went last month. For 16 overly cooked onion rings (some had the onion cooked right outta them) and they cost .43.3 cents each! Ridiculous! I have driven past this place quite a few times before stopping in. I ordered their vegetarian burger with sweet potato fries. It was served with sautéed mushrooms and swiss cheese....very tasty! I also had strawberry lemonade. At first i was afraid it would be too sweet but it was surprisingly not. The serving was large by todays standards (both the tea and the burger) and I did have a bit of a time finishing the meal...(i am not one to eat leftovers). If there was any change I would have liked it would have been to have the bun warmed a bit...it wasn't cold or anything....just a preference. The place was very busy when I arrived and I think it took 5 minutes to be seated but after that service was quick and i have no complaints about it. I also visited the produce store next door. Very nice selection and the apricots I purchased had an amazing flavor. All in all this was an excellent experience and I will most assuredly return. read more

Best biscuits and gravy...The red pepper flakes give the gravy a little kick and the biscuits are awesome. They've got thick bacon, and when done crisp is exactly what breakfast should be. In the summer the sister fruit stand supplies farm fresh fruits that make this feel like the kind of breakfast you'd really hope to find nestled halfway between a mid size city and Oregon farm communities. read more

My party of 8 drove from 62 St. in East Salem to this place on Saturday, 2/4 and arrived at 7:34pm. Their website lists this as one of their open hours. The sign was off, the café was dark and there was no one in sight. I called the next day about noon and was told that the café had too few customers so they closed early. I won't drive 15+ miles again to drive up to a closed restaurant when their website says they are open. The person that I spoke to told me that they had posted a sign on the door, but how does that help me? Especially after a drive of that length. There was a heavy rainstorm at the time and she seemed to think that I should have gotten out of my car to see that sign with the lights out in a driving rainstorm. It seemed that I may have been inconveniencing her with my call to inquire why they were closed. Guess I don't deserve to be a customer of Café 22 West. read more

Best tasting food in Salem in my opinion. I love the BLT here, and all the other foods look amazing. It is good for any meal of the day. Although it is a cafe, the food is extremely fresh and tasty. There is a great fresh fruit stand next door owned by the same people, and is used in the ice cream selection. It is worth the drive out of Salem for lunch anytime. read more

Oh, my good god. Foodgasms every time! Hashbrowns are always perfect and not your classic shredded grease traps. I usually get a make- your- own omelette with veggies and a little feta on top if I feel the need for some curdled cow excretions in my mouth. While being adventurous, I once got a biscuit with gravy on top instead of toast. Oh, the guilt of eating meat in the gravy and the cream to make it delicious was well worth it as the gravy and biscuit were both made with love. You can taste the love. Then, the one time we didn't arrive on time for breakfast, I was incredibly surprised at the care given to my veggie burger!! I may have had the best veggie burger ever that day. Seasoned to perfection, falling apart with every bite, perfect toppings without adding any animal product as I was, once again, vegan for the time being. Then, when I decided to do have a low carb deal going on, they were more than willing to cook up some veggies instead of the usual hash. Perfection. Plus, the waitress remembers our preferred drinks and food inclinations every time she seats us. Pricing is decent as well. Your usual diner prices for above average cooks and service. read more

The only thing I come here for is a full rack of baby back pork ribs which is the best I have had. I also love the baked beans with bacon and onions side it goes with ribs well. I usually get tator tots instead of salad....not a veggie lover but salads look fresh and crisp. The ribs are very meaty and good quality. The owner/chef ussually says hi and the waitresses are very good. Kind of a 50s theme with old signs and a real jukebox. You can eat outside on patio and there is a fruit stand next door and orchard out back. Have not had the pleasure of eating breakfast or lunch yet. read more

Had been here before and noticed the table next to me having a nice looking Strawberry Shortcake, returned with my family on a hot afternoon to enjoy a Strawberry Shortcake and was rudely instructed by the waitress that unless I order food I would have to go to the fruit stand and eat out at the picnic tables, but not on the patio area with umbrellas. It is the same owner for cafe, fruit stand and coffee, you have an empty restaurant with a/c. Well I do not like your silly rule or the rude way it was deliveried, I am sure you will be fine without ever seeing another cent from a close neighbor. We stopped in on our way to Santa Rosa CA from Canada and Washington. Food was amazing, the onion rings were to die for. My husband had a burger with Tater Tots, also, really good. Service was just fine, very friendly and homey feel. Afterwards, we stopped by the fruit stand and picked up some Honey Crisp apples, also wonderful. Enjoyed eating them before we got to the California border, wish we lived closer but if we take another road trip next year, will definitely stop by. The food was delicious! Nice thick tasty Bacon! Room for improvement on service. First time we waited awhile before even being acknowledged. Second trip was better. Each time we went about 8am. Always have loved this place! Greatest Belgian waffles ever with fresh fruit when it's in season. (Freshly canned fruit when fresh is not in season.) The service is a little slow sometimes, but well worth it. read more

This was a first for me. I've driven by this restaurant for the past few years and never thought to give it a chance. Now that it's sunny, my girl and I wanted to eat and relax outside. She thought of this place. From the outside, it definitely has the rustic feel. Old gas signs litter the grounds giving it a classic feel. We were sat down promptly at a table under an umbrella. Out waitress was great. She had a rapist wit coupled with a great smile. I ordered the southern burger and my woman ordered the veggie wrap with chicken. The burger came with chipotle mayo, bacon, tomato, lettuce, onion, and avocado. I opted for the tots instead of the fries. The burger was good but not amazing. It's the type of burger that will satisfy the aching in your stomach but not wow you. The tots were also decent, but the crinkle fried were better. All In all, 4 coronas and two entrées came out to $30. Cafe 22 west was a great place to come and relax while enjoying the gorgeous weather. read more

A group of 35 of us went to Hwy. Cafe 22 last night. Everyone raved about the food. We went back due to the outstanding meal we had there last August. Dinner was excellent, with those having the B-B-Q pork ribs (including my wife and I) raving and raving about how tender they were, how flavorful, etc. Others who made other dinner choices were equally delighted. Their sides (5 choices), were also very tasty. For dessert, those who were not too stuffed from their large portions (and even those who were), chose the peach cobbler. Outstanding, with the portions so large, the peaches so tender and so flavorful -- and the cake pudding mounted on top was also wonderful. When I went to thank Clyde, the owner and Chef, telling him how much we all loved our dinners, including the cobbler and its terrific peaches, he said that "we grow our own peaches." For those who are unaware, he and his family also own Aspinwall's on that same property. In addition to our group dinners, we have eaten there numerous times over the years and never once left without a big smile on our face, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Prices are extremely reasonable for the terrific food! Wonderful quantity and even better taste. The only caution is that they are only open for dinner several nights a week, so check with them in advance. You will not go wrong, instead be so happy you went! read more

My husband had a Farm Burger and he said it was the best hamburgers he had had in a long time. He was also given a free sample of barbecued ribs and thought they were outstanding. I had the French dip and the prime rib in it was tender and tasty and the bun had croissant-like flakiness. We've been looking for a restaurant on the west side of Salem for a long time (we travel from Tillamook to visit our family in Salem); now we've found it! Yippee! read more

Have recently been to Cafe 22 twice ... BOTH times they exceeded my expectations in what a great lunch should taste like. I'm almost reticent to post a great review for fear this place will be inundated with even more customers! On my last visit I had the patty melt sandwich, iced tea & of course their WONDERFUL onion rings! Can't say enough good about the quality of food - as well as the service was quite above the norm. Just a great place to eat -- I haven't had their ice cream ... yet - but will on an upcoming visit, I'm sure! read more
