This place was a great find. Looks like a dive off the side of the Hwy, but the good was fabulous abd tge service was quick and good. We got the special Apple pancakes, but the rest of the menu also looked great. The cafe taters were just like I like, potatoes with nothing else, yet super tasty. We absolutely love this place. After going to the fruit stand to get ice cream for our kiddos a few times the owner knows us by name and goes out of his way to ask us how we are doing. They have seasonal soft serve flavors so in July you can get fresh peach ice cream. (really quite a treat on a hot day) Their fruits and vegetables are always wonderfully fresh and local. If you like customer service, which I place a high value on, you will enjoy this produce stand/restaurant. read more

I heard so many good things about this place I had to check it out, small place waited quite awhile to be seated. I ordered the patty melt with chili I do like that you aren't charged more for getting chili instead of fries. The portion sizes were good but the chili not served very warm, not a fan of cold chili. The patty melt was a little over done and very greasy. My granddaughter was happy with her BLT and fries. I personally was not impressed enough to go back and especially have to wait a long time to be seated. read more

When all you're looking for is just the most amazing burger then Café 22 is the place for you! Went there with the family on recommendations from friends and we were not disappointed. Only sad that I hadn't eaten there sooner after living in the area for years. I had the Southern Route burger (perfect!) and my wife had the chili dog. Homemade chili was amazing. Within our party we had several of the different types of burgers on the menu and everyone was pleased. read more

This cafe is basically a 5 star but the water tasted soooo bad. Like copper. (I'm finding that is a thing that is in most restaurants in Salem) I couldn't stand to drink it. The food was amazing. Great prices. The kids menu was basic but had everything my kids wanted. I liked that the fruit for their pancakes came on the side so we could limit how much they ate of it. Very disappointed with my recent visit. 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon, not crowded. Had to wait 5 minutes before the hostess even seated me. Then waited over 15 minutes with no sign of a waitress. Stopped in to buy some peaches. .. they look good... tomatoes looked good (bought some) but the blackberries looked great (bought more). So much I had to grab a blackberry milkshake which was awesome. I've had dinner with my wife several times here and it is always good but there ice cream desserts are really good. read more

What a wonderful little gem! The service was so friendly and family oriented. The owner took our order and said the kids plate would be too much for our 2 year old and said he'd make her a half sandwich for no charge instead. ( he was right she barely finished her half sandwich and fries ) the food was wonderful! We both got hamburgers and swapped the fries for their giant delicious onion rings! The burger was juicy, fresh and full of flavor. We then headed over to the fruit stand to have fresh fruit sundaes. Fresh sliced peaches and ice cream.. all you need Yum! We stopped here on the way to the coast and were greeted warmly. The atmosphere was so cute with vintage items. And the soup we had - Mexican corn chowder was to die for! My husband's burger was also cooked perfectly and was very delicious. We decided to stop again on our way home from the coast and again tried their soup - this time a split-pea and it was also excellent! The owner and the wait staff were very friendly! I have eaten at restaurants that claim farm-to-table. This one I know for sure is. There is a 40 Acre Farm and a farmer's market in one corner and a restaurant in the other corner . It took me several visits to really appreciate everything that this farmer does. The first visit was on our way back from the coast we stopped in for strawberry shortcake at the Alpenwall farmer's market stand. It was so good that I took my parents there the very next day and my 85 year old father after several moments of Silence while eating his Strawberry Shortcake looked up at me with almost a tear in his eye. I asked him if everything was okay and he said this brings back childhood memories which almost put a tear in my eye. Nowhere around here can you get a homemade Shortcake very high quality vanilla ice cream and fresh cut organic Oregon strawberries all on the same plate. It was time we tried this place for lunch so we waited about a week and I loaded my parents in the car and we drove out there one afternoon for lunch. Homemade potato salad and great chicken. Oh and the best strawberry lemonade you will ever drink in your life. Also went in for breakfast and it is hands-down the best breakfast you're going to find in the Salem area and the prices are extremely reasonable. The only thing we haven't tried yet is the dinner which I'm anxious to possibly even this weekend. It's not often you find a place like this where everything is made with such love and passion not to mention a lot of the ingredients come from within 300 feet of the doors. The only thing I am upset about is that I did not discover this place 9 years ago when they opened. Such lost time. I strongly urge all travelers down Highway 22 to stop in here for at least the Strawberry Shortcake this summer because it is a true gem. To the owners, I don't know who you are although we had a brief conversation at the restaurant one day, thank you for all that you've done, all that you do and all the sacrifices you make to make something like this happen for the rest of us to enjoy. Have been going there for years for the ice cream and milkshakes...however now that they have the restaurant the owners true colors are coming out! No dogs allowed outside, make you wait to be seated in the sun and cannot tilt umbrellas ... there are more rules than I care to put up with. Had a southwest burger, I think that's you call it. The burger taste wise was great, slightly messy (bun hardly can hold it together) but very filling. I ordered onion rings instead of the boring looking fries on the menu. Unfortunately they skimp on quantity on those. Had an ice tea, had a slight stale odd flavor but wasn't bad. Total came out to 15 or so bucks for my meal, total that with my gf's meal (same burger) + tip, we were at 30 bucks. That's a touch pricy for a cafe/diner style place to me. I've been to many other diner's that offer similar food for fairer price. I see that this is run by some locals but it's catered towards tourists, that's about it. read more

Let me begin by saying this would have been a solid 4 star review, I gave it one star because there was a big hunk of plastic bag baked into my 2 year old son's waffle! That kind of reckless disregard doesn't sit well with me. Terrible experience. The food is decent, but the guy running this joint needs Kindergarten degree in customer service. He makes people wait in a line outside in the parking lot while we all stare at empty tables. I don't get it. Everyone in line is asking each other why so many tables available yet we are all standing around waiting for our master to seat us. While waiting in this line, we get the joy of watching him let people behind you in line cut in front of you when they call him over a yuck it up. When questioned about it he just lied about it and walked away from us. We should have left right then...I thought it was a public restaurant, but clearly he has his favorites. We stopped for dinner here for the first time tonight. We were greeted with a smile and hi from the owner. The waitress came right over and was friendly. Iced tea was strong and plain and kept full. We had bbq that was fabulous. The potato salad was homemade and yummy. The baked beans were good. Mike said he was wild about the mac and cheese. The coffee was good and hot and that is the nicest thing I can say about Cafe 22 West. Well, it is also very cute. The food was ice cold. We got up mid meal and had to wait while our waitress chatted with "the regulars". Thank god another waitress got her attention for us, or we would have waited longer. Then to top it off the waitress gave herself a bigger tip then we left. I called the manager and he was very defensive, even insinuating that I did not know how to add. Or maybe that my hand writing was bad. That really peed me off. It seems like they were not lacking for customers. Maybe people like cold food, bad service and don't mind being gipped on the tips!! We've eaten here at Cafe 22 West a few times now. We used to only stop by their ice cream stand to get ice cream deserts (quite often). The service at the Cafe was great and the atmosphere relaxing ... especially sitting outside. Enjoyed it thoroughly! read more

Great spot and food is very good. Would give a better rating IF they would allow the customer to have a burger cooked to his/her preference. Asked for medium and was told "they won't let me - all our burgers are 'cooked through'..." Time to learn its ok not to cook ground beef until it's WAY overdone!! C'mon man!! read more

Cafe 22 west is a family friendly atmosphere with delightful waitresses and good food. My favorite is the tuna melt at lunch and the omelette with a side of gravy for breakfast! The biscuits are amazing! On the sweet side walk over to the produce and ice cream stand. This is a must visit place. read more
