I had to flag down the manager and explained the situation asking for a refund. Well, I got the refund but the receipt was confusing, so I had to ask the person making the drinks. She said," Yeah, it's kinda confusing but you should get a refund. Go ahead and check your account in about 3-5 days". WTF. I WILL NEVER, EVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE. It's a nice mom and pop feel with a pane of pexi-glass between tables. It feels like private tables. I had a cup of coffee served in a nice ceramic cup labeled with their name on it. I had a bowl of loco moco which was very good. The gravy was well seasoned and it went well with the white rice. The hamburger itself was flavorful and heavy, just the way I like it. I was here years ago and finally got a chance to drop in. I will be back soon to try other items.

The kama'aina fried rice was filled with lots of meat: bacon, spam, ham, and Portuguese sausage. It was pretty good. The pancake flight was okay. Would've been better if I could choose the pancakes. Overall, the lilikoi pancake was the best! I didn't too much favor the chocolate taro-haupia or the cookie butta lava. The Kalua pork omelette was good, but I wish there was more meat inside. All the portions were very generous. The only thing we didn't like was that everything was overloaded with onions. And I LOVE onions, but even I thought it was too much. For that reason, my family didn't care too much for their meals. Overall, we had a fair experience. Seating is a little tight, but we were still comfortable. The only inconvenience was the bathroom on the top floor, which can be difficult when you have little kids.

Whenever I pass by, there seems to be people waiting in the front, especially during dinner time. Who knew this place would be the spot to go to for dinner? From the outside, it reminds me of the restaurant Tiana from The Princess and the Frog built -which make total sense! It's the high, lofty ceilings, big, open, bright lights - they really got the plantation building vibe well. The servers have been great whether they're the quick-service bakery or the servers for our dinner. I remember one dinner, my meal took longer than everyone else at the table and they were apologetic in that and kept checking in and made sure I felt seen. As far as the food, I've tried their cutlet, breakfast pancakes/waffle, fried chicken, and a couple other dishes. Some I ordered myself and some my husband ordered, therefore they are my dishes as well. All of them tasted great and I do have to say, considering how long they've been open, you would think the standards go down at some point, but I have not experienced that at all. The breads, butters, and jellies still slap. And most of all, my husband and other family members I've come here with LOOOVE the kimchi fried rice and/or the pork loco moco. Personally, I used to only think about Liliha Bakery whenever friends from the mainland come to visit. But now, it just may be a nice spot for dinner if we want something a little more than Zippy's.

We only waited a couple of minutes for a table and our food came out in about 15 minutes. Every employee we interacted with from our server to the bussers were friendly and welcoming. The ribeye loco moco was the highlight (they were out of the prime rib). They give you a FULL SIZED ribeye (maybe 10oz?) instead of a small piece of steak like how they do with a hamburger patty or two, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered mine medium, but it unfortunately came out very well done. Thankfully, the rich gravy, perfectly cooked eggs, and the $3 pork adobo fried rice upgrade more than made up for it. That fried rice alone is worth ordering. We also shared the chicken and waffles, and the fried chicken was seasoned really well with a great crunch without being overly breaded. My only "complaint" other than the steak temp was that it came with honey but no syrup. I understand the choice, but I wish they at least offered syrup on the side (granted I didn't ask for any). Our bill for the ribeye loco moco and chicken and waffles was around $55, which felt fair for Hawaii especially when you get an entire ribeye. I will definitely be back to try the prime rib loco moco!

Well the simple answer is because we're all looking for something new and different to do once in a while with family and friends. And that exactly why we ended up at Wai Kai. It was a chance to hang out with our kids and friends before they returned to school after the winter break. The obstacle course was a ton of fun, we took advantage of the other water activities too, and we also opted to get a couple cabanas too so we could all hang out. It was perfect for our group of 20. Some of the restaurants were closed the day we went, but the takeout food at The Lookout was delicious. We also enjoyed some cold beverages too. BTW, the Nalo Lounge is a great option for $25/person if you want to store your belonging and take a shower before heading to your ext destination. For local families, take advantage of the kamaaina rates. The family is already excited about going back when the kids are back home this summer.
