Got there before 6pm, didn't receive our entries until 8pm. The food was subpar at best. Got the paella....when the check arrived I realized it was $48...which made me all the more upset since the food was cold and under portioned... it was beyond underwhelming (taste and portion wise) and outrageously priced. Every morsel of our dinners was happily consumed. Our very large family had a Friday night celebration. 25 people left delightfully satisfied. This was my second visit to Cafe 37. I travel 45 minutes to meet relatives for a holiday lunch. My first visit last year was terrific good food good service. Second trip not so much. Service very slow. Special appetizer wonderful. Main dish disappointing. My son order a medium rare burger it came out very well down. The place is stark and bright and they have packed in too many tables in that little space. Perhaps if they turned down the lights, it would help conceal the unsightly "basement" ceiling tiles. My wife Irina and I have been enjoying the Cafe 37 experience since it's inception! Throughout the years Executive Chef/Owner Cesar Sotomayor has provided an exquisite dining experience. His food is a blend of creativity, mastery and sophistication that brings endless delight to you! There is no other menu quite like it in town, one of my favorite dishes over the years has been his exotic mushroom truffle risotto, which having been to Italia several times, is the closest representation of this Italian treasure I have tasted in the USA. All of his dishes are tremendously prepared and served at the right temperature. Service was poor. I was by myself and wanted a nice meal. Each part of the dinner was a struggle-ordering, getting my main course after the salad and then waiting to get the bill and no water- a dry water glass for 80% of the time. The bread was good, the avocado and endive salad was good. The linguini with diver scallops was a bit bland and the pasta was a bit over cooked. What was so maddening is i wanted to have a good experience. We ate many meals at La Tour cooked by this new Cafe 37 owner/chef in the past and loved the food. CAFE 37 is worth TWICE THE PRICE... when it comes to a fantastic TAKE OUT Meal due to Covid 19. Seriously, my wife and I were getting "Cabin Fever" and we said: Let's treat ourselves for a truly 1st class meal - even though nearly all of Ridgewood's restaurants are closed. Food was good but portions weren't great if you like to eat . I ordered the special which was lamb chops and it only came with 2 lamb chops and one of them was on the small side . When we received the bill and I saw they charged me $48 let's just say I was a little bit in shock . They were good but for $48 definitely not worth it. I love the idea of this place. And, that is why it pains me to write this review. I have eaten at Cafe 37 three times in the past two weeks. Once for lunch--which was great-- and twice for dinner. Today, for mother's day, was one of those times. And, sadly, it was the worse of the three. After today's experience, I will not go there again. Let's start from the beginning. Cafe 37 is BYOB like many places in Ridgewood. So, you would assume the waiter would know how to open up a bottle of champagne. That was not the case. After popping the cork, the champagne went all over the place--down the sides of the bottle and all over the table. Okay, that was strike one. The waiter apologize,d wiped up the mess and we moved on. We were a party of six--4 adults and two kids. There were many similar size groups around us. We ordered promptly and the apps came out in perfect timing (15 mins) and they were great. For the next 75 minutes, we waited for our entrees. My kids are well-behaved but after 60 minutes we had all lost our patience. I understand letting the food settle but it was ridiculous. When the food finally came out, it was terrible. It was dry and flavorless. Clearly, it had been sitting under heating lamps for way too long. I know that Mother's Day is a popular one for restaurants but we (like everyone else) had a reservation. The chef knew the number of covers he had for the 1:00 seating and should have planned. Clearly, that didn't happen. Sadly, this was the same experience we had when we went there for dinner two weeks ago on a Saturday night. That evening we went to the 8:30 seating. And again, the apps came out quickly. Once again, there was a huge wait for the entrees. Again, it was about 75 minutes. There are so many dining choices in Ridgewood that I would highly recommend you go elsewhere. Cafe 37 strives to be fine dining but fails miserably. The prices are too high, the wait for the food is too long and the wait staff is too inexperienced. Other eateries such as Roots, Novo and Due located in Ridgewood would never ever fail on all three fronts. read more

Our top three Ridgewood "fit for foodies" restaurants are, LaTour, Mediteraneo and Sakura Bana. We are always hoping and looking for new options and hoped Cafe 37 would be a new option for us. If you like consistent restaurants and have high expectations like we do, I'm afraid you better stay away form Cafe 37. We tried Cafe 37 for the second time last night. We were disappointed from start to finish. Booking at the last minute, all inside options were out. We reserved an outside table but were disappointed to find upon arrival that the only tables for 2 were on the were right next the road and exhaust of cars parking in and out next to us. The other better outside options closer to the building were two tables for 4 (one never occupied the whole evening and a service table). Despite having asked when we arrived for a better option, another party of two (that arrived after us) who also complained of being so close to the road were offered the service table. Sensing our disappointment and knowing how inappropriate that was after we had asked, we were told that if the party of 4 didn't show, they would move us...the party of 4 never showed and we were never moved. We were told the daily soup was corn chowder. My husband ordered that only to be disappointed with leek and potato and bacon. Although the waiter was friendly, he lacked experience. I had my appetizer and we did not want to wait for another option to arrive. To add to the disappointing evening, it was quite chilly so we asked that the heat warmers be turned on. The waiters fumbled with the cover for 15 minutes before they got it off and working. Nothing was offered to us; we were not comped the soup nor offered desert. Between the parking cars and fumbling staff trying to get the heaters working, it did not meet our expectations....try the other better options above that are always consistently good. read more

Had lunch there with my ladies who had high expectations.Overall the food did not disappoint except the Creme Brulee. Unfortunately the place was almost empty which did put a damper to our experience. Also, what was the overly clean weird smell when you enter the place, we all noticed and disliked it. What we also found was that the cutlery is really hard to handle, we were laughing as almost every one of us dropped it or almost dropped it. We thought we would try this place again as it has been a long while and were hoping things food wise got back to how it was when they first opened. We held my son's baptism there in October 2019 and everything was amazing! Overall a great experience with amazing food...everyone was raving about the dishes. Cesar was great to work with and allowed us in early to set up the room with his team, which was super helpful. We had the entire space to ourselves and everything was top notch! Disappointing and over priced. We tried it for the first time, from the reviews I expected a good experience. I knew there was a problem when we asked for a few mire minutes to order and the waiter let out a big sigh,perhaps he is used to working at chain restaurants and was surprised we didn't order within 5 minutes. Luckily the place got busy and another waiter ended up taking care of us. Other then the one rude waiter the service was good. Started with the kale salad, it was actually the best part of the meal, fresh and flavorful. The entree was the filet mignon. It was sliced in 2 or 3 pieces and was drowning in a unappealing sauce with boring mash potatoes.The meat quality was not the best. Hiding meat quality with sauce is never a good idea. Went here on a Thursday night on a whim. Had no reservation but they had no problems seating and serving me and my date. Ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked to absolute perfection. Fallen Chocolate Cake for dessert was absolutely delicious. Presentation of food was excellent. Service was very, very good. Interior was beautiful, clean, modern, the whole nine. After reading a few positive reviews I decided it was time to give cafe 37 a try. Unfortunately I am unable to give this restaurant a higher score. The decor is nice and clean. The wait staff very friendly, but the food is sub par for the money. Adult dishes portioned for children and flavored for old people. Our first experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing. We were a table of four, three of us ordered the diver scallops over fettucine. We were given three scallops over a small handful of pasta. We all felt that it was the size of an appetizer. Bravo, excellent job by the Cafe 37 crew. We've been here several times in the past. But it was our wedding anniversary and we wanted something special to celebrate! So I contacted the chef ahead of time to see if he would be willing to do several courses of his choice, but without meat as my wife doesn't eat meat. He was glad to accommodate us. As a matter of fact, he greeted us upon arrival to go over her dietary restraints and ask how many coarses we would like and he took it from there. Each and every dish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The servers were also great, very attentive throughout the night. We will definitely be going back more often. read more

I went here two nights ago despite the negative reviews about the service. I have to say the service was spectacular for us. Our waiter was named Maurice and he could not have been better. Later on in the meal he informed us it was his first night. Chef Cesar came out later in the meal to introduce himself. What an awesome and talented guy. He let us know that he had hired a new waiting staff, so he must have been listening to the reviews on here and did something about it. The service was perfect! The service was not the only thing that was perfect, the food was some of the best, if not the best, I have had in Ridgewood. I go out to eat about 2-3 times a week and can confidently say that this may be the best restaurant in Ridgewood. For an app we got the Lobster Crab and Avocado parfait. It was delicious with the perfect combination of ingredients. For an entree I got the Filet Mignon and I could not get over how delicious it was. It was better than any steak you can get at the new Park West Tavern or any other restaurant in Ridgewood for that matter. It came with mashed potatoes that were equally delicious, and some perfectly cooked asparagus. We also got the pan seared filet of salmon which was out of this world as well. As a dessert we got the vanilla bean creme bule. It was a little different from most I have had, with blueberries on the bottom, then the creme bule, and strawberries on top. I was little confused when it came out but when I took the first bite I was blown away. It was one of the tastiest creme bules I have ever had. I am quite critical when it comes to eating out and I have not one bad thing to say about the food here. All in all, this restaurant gets 5 stars from me. Great restaurant. I think the best in Ridgewood. Very pleasant atmosphere and attentive and professional staff. The menu is very creative and everything sounds so appetizing that it is difficult to choose. We finally decided on kale salad which was AMAZING and Gorgonzola salad which my husband loved We followed with PEI Mussels in roasted tomato and wine sauce. It was a real treat. The owner/chef Cesar Sotomayor came out to say hello. He was very gracious. All in all it was a lovely evening for us and we both felt it was our new favorite in Ridgewood. Highly recommended. Ate here on their second weekend. Easily the best upscale restaurant in Ridgewood. Chances are you'll have the opportunity to personally greet the chef. Went with the jersey scallops over sautéed spinach, topped with smoked gouda. Wow. Then had the filet. Best filet in town. Nice menu with some American classics like lamb and pork chops, but also some great seafood options and a Paella that smelled unbelievable. Finished with the second best bread pudding I've ever had. Byob. Also great service and better parking options because of its location in town than what Im used to in Ridgewood. read more
