Go here for the Halibut special. I said I was going to share it with a friend but after one bite I told her she was SOL bc I was no longer willing to share it and wanted to keep it all myself. I don't even know what it was served over but it was some kind of shredded veg and covered in a delicious light savory sauce with a hint of sweetness which I just learned was from a "sweet drop pepper" garnish. I wish there were more of these cute little red gems! It was the first time anyone at our table saw them. It reminded me slightly of a slightly smoky ripe cherry tomato. Delicious!! I ate the almost the entire dish and ordered a side of truffle mashed potatoes. I was very satisfied with my main entree and the black truffle mashed were also delicious even though the chef didn't know what region they were from. (A truffle hunter told us to always ask the chef what region they are from to ensure they are authentic and not oil or fake lab grown because they have to certify the region they came from before exporting them.) TMI I know but if you're a foodie you might appreciate this knowledge. For appetizer, the table ordered the filet ravioli....I liked the Brown sauce and greenery it was served with but wish they included more green beans. The meat was cut in large pieces inside the ravioli and was very tender. It was unique. Save some bread for the sauce. Hub had the dry aged steak and thought it was too thin and meh for the price. He's picky AF so that that with a grain of salt. I think he was expecting the meat to be like Cafe panache or a steak house and it was not so he won't get that again. I didn't try it and I saw him get it down to the bone so I think he enjoyed it anyway. Dessert was a delish apple tart that was on fire with vanilla ice cream and garnished with delicious berries. There were a few chewy spots from the topping but I would absolutely get this again. The filling was perfect with sautéd apples with cinnamon. Be careful when taking your first bite!!! It's hot from the oven! Hub burnt his mouth. Regarding the service there are opportunities. First, it was extremely challenging to get a glass of water. Second, the first waiter forgot half the specials (but to be fair I forgot too because they were super complex and I can't even remember after eating it!!) The second waitress said all the specials and placed our order. I asked her for tap water that never came...asked again and after 30 min I asked again and this time a bottle of water came that was not tap water. Fine. I didn't send it back because I was so thirsty. This water ran out and then i finally got the tap water bottle from the guy but I could def taste the difference. If I come back again I'll will get the bottled water because something tasted off with the tap water. I wanted to ask for lemon to make it palatable but felt like I was being annoying because they were busy and it was impossible to get another refill. But it was getting late and they started clanking the silverware and turning up the lights and I'm sure everyone wanted to go home so that's fair. There was an amazing server that took the time to take multiple pictures of our group. He even stood on a chair to ensure we got a good shot. I appreciated this extra effort. For ambiance it's a nice place to go on a date or with a small group it kinda gave me NYC vibes as a nice lively atmosphere but it does get noisy and it can be hard to hear. I would have liked to hear the light French background music over the noise because you can hear it well in the restroom. Overall a lovely dining experience in NJ. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. Ownership changed about a year ago and the new owner is the new chef and he is spectacular. He kept the original staff and they are all quite good at what they do in serving their clientele. But the food is delicious the changes he has made to the menu and to the specials or wonderful. And chef goes out of his way to make each customer feel welcome and feel special he surely did that for us! He had schnitzel has a special on the menu because he knew it would be meaningful to us which it was as well as being delicious. We went for New Year's Eve pre-fix menu and were sadly disappointed. The steak and pork chop were undercooked. I sent my steak back because it wasn't medium rare - it was black and blue. Sadly instead of a new steak they just put the steak I already cut into back in the oven and reserved it to me. The waiter was as nice as he could be. Let's hope this was a nye's moment. They also did not serve their famous bread - my understanding is that they are under new management. It's a byob and a liquor store is next door. read more

Coming in the bad snow storm with family on a Sunday night. Surprisingly there's still a fair amount of customers shows there's a loyal support on this establishment. The ambience is traditional French & Italian base with a modern twist 4/5 Strat with toasty bread with sea salt butter & rigatoni. Dinner tonight was outstanding! I don't use that word often, but St Eves is nothing short of perfection. Chef Stefan will NOT disappoint! Started with zucchini blossoms filled with ricotta. Blossoms were expertly crisped and the ricotta was beyond light. Dinner was swordfish, which was perfectly seared and so juicy. It was surrounded by broccoli rabe, spinach and other summer veggies. Don't skip the white peach sorbet for dessert. Service was so attentive without being intrusive. Christine, our server, was both sweet and professional. Tough combination to pull off. The restaurant ambiance is wonderful. We were hoping to have a special experience. The food was average the lamb chops app was very good. The chicken special was overcooked and dry. My steak frites was ok nothing wrong with it but was covered in sauce. Nothing special. This review is strictly based on a party I went to where we had the whole restaurant. At first, I was a little confused as I assumed the parking was in the front, but it's in the back and there is ample parking, which is great. Takes away the pressure of having to find parking on the street or in the front if coming during the day when people are shopping and in and out of all the stores. The restaurant is super cute and intimate. It is not as large as it looks from the outside, so I assume it would be best to make a reservation if dining on a weekend evening. Took a quick peek at the general menu when we first got there and it looks like they have a little bit of everything between the carnivore side, pescatarian as well as some pasta dishes. The party was organized beautifully. We started with champagne being passed around as well as hors d'oeuvres. Everything was really delicious. There was also a raw bar and a cheese section. For dining, we were offered a selection of three options which had been picked by the host. I opted for a filet mignon main course and for my salad it was a fried goat cheese. The goat cheese had a a lot of seasoning of some sort of spice which I believe it was cumin. It was actually quite overbearing for the salad, but otherwise the greens were fresh and dressing light. I was not a huge fan of the filet as I felt it seemed more poached than seared on the outside, but all the other dishes at our table looked phenomenal, and I had a taste and they were delicious. Dessert was also outstanding. The wait staff was on point and kept coming to check in. Despite a few things with our dinner, which just were not to our personal liking for a party of a 75+ group they did an amazing job. 4.5 stars My brother and I were trying to find a nice spot to meet for dinner, and after sending him a long list of places, he selected St. Eve's. We were both really intrigued by their interesting, seasonal menu and were excited to give the restaurant a shot. The space might not look like much from the outside, where it is located on the end of a small strip mall, but the inside was very charming! There was a "bar" with a view of the kitchen, but the place is BYOB (with a liquor store literally next to it), so it was more of a counter. There were also two main dining areas with white tableclothed tables. Very quickly after we were seated at one of these quaint tables, the server stopped by to greet us and pour some water. We also received a small wooden board that was topped with slices of, not only soft white bread, but fresh banana bread as well! I had never received banana bread in a dinner bread service, but I was thrilled! We decided to start out by sharing 2 appetizers. The Filet Mignon Ravioli were apparently one of their most popular menu items, and we could clearly see why. The delicate noodles were encasing huge helpings of steak, and its toppings of red-wine braised short ribs and porcini mushroom broth were umami heaven. The Brussels Sprout Salad included apples, golden raisins, and a heavy sprinkling of funky pecorino cheese. It was another winner. For our entrees, we both opted for the Alaskan Halibut, which was topped with an aromatic truffle butter. It was served with roasted vegetables and lemon potatoes. The fish itself was perfectly-cooked, but the truffle flavor made the dish that much better. Lastly, we shared the Apple and Pear Crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The fruity filling was fresh and not overly sugary or syrupy. The crumb topping was plentiful, which is how I like it! The vanilla ice cream was flavorful as well. Before we could leave, the manager (owner?), who was a very sweet woman, stopped by to hear about our experience, which we heavily praised. St. Eve's is truly a hidden gem worth visiting! read more

Came today (Sunday) to my son's fiancé's bridal shower. The place was a perfect venue for the shower. The food was wonderful! The service was amazing And the manager was super friendly and welcoming. It was a big group for the room, yet it felt perfect! I ordered the beet salad as an appetizer and the steak lunch. Both were delicious. My daughter had the chicken and my 2 friends sitting next to me ordered salmon which they said was excellent too. I can't say enough about the staff and the attention we got! Highly recommend this restaurant and wish I lived closer because I would frequent them often. Every time we go there, we always have a very nice experience with the former chef and the new chef food is always consistently. Well. Done service is always on par and we have a nice relaxing good time either by ourselves or with friends. Wow! This restaurant is truly a gem. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a very pleasant hostess (Anik) . She remembered that she spoke to me directly when I made our reservation. We started with appetizers. Lobster Bisque was wonderful as was the tuna carpaccio and Caesar Salad. Our waitress Christine was attentive even though the restaurant was full. Our main courses, were fantastic. (Duck, Salmon and the steak frites) We finished off the meal with the Pavlova and the cinnamon ice cream sandwich. We did share some of the dishes and each dish was excellent . It was truly a great dining experience. We will definitely be returning. My wife and I walk down the hill to Hohokus often for dinner. We have tried every place multiple times over the years. We actually ate here years ago, but for no specific reason had not returned. We were greeted by Anik (sp?), a lovely French woman, very professional. This is the second very bad experience I had at this great food and upscale restaurant. The food is terrific. The hostess is a maniacal disrespectful and bad tempered French woman. My date had a confirmed via text and email reservation and she refused to "find it". He explained that he personally called on Valentines Day to book it and was also sent Open Table to confirm. 6 pm. We had "two hours before we had to vacate." She said "well I wasn't here on Tuesday. I didn't speak to you. I have no tables ". SHE REFUSED TO BELIEVE THE FACTUAL EVIDENCE PROVIDED right there. My date was embarrassed -- but I had had a bad experience with this bitch once before. The couple behind us literally backed us up. The guy told her to "go look again" and she simply turned away. We left. My advice is this: Don't go to St Eves at all. Instead drive a few more blocks away and happily dine at JUST JANICE or ALBERTS or even the HoHoKus Inn. I'm sure you will love their food and ambiance even more. read more

The manager and the staff were very professional, making everyone comfortable and attending to all the guests needs. The manager allowed us to decorate the venue making it even more festive. I've been wanting to try St. Eve's for a quite a while, and the first time I got to was in quarantine. So this review is based on their takeout (which, spoiler alert, was fantastic). While it took more than a few tries calling to get though to place an order, the rest was easy breezy! Placed a call earlier in the day and told them a time for it to be ready for pickup. You can can pull into their back parking lot for curbside. An employee then comes out, takes your last name, then delivers the order right to your car. Despite being in takeout containers, everything was still beautifully presented! The Crispy Duck Spring Rolls were full of duck and still crispy. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake was full of crab meat and the accompanying aioli was delicious. The Filet Mignon Ravioli app was flavorful and a great spin on a classic dish that so many other restaurants have. The Shrimp Scampi was plentiful with perfectly al dente pasta. Last but not least (and my favorite), was the special, Tempura Battered Soft Shell Crabs, still crispy and kept in a separate container to eat with a Caesar salad. I'm looking forward to trying more of their menu items, repeating my favorites and dining at the restaurant once quarantine is over! read more

The size is big like a blue crab, so FRESH, the meat so moist and sweet, the best I ever had! Today's oyster on the half shell with smoke salmon was delicious. Scallops cooked just to the right firmness. Roasted beet salad is another must have. Skirt steak with the reduction sauces perfectly prepared medium rare that melt in the mouth. Lamb Shank was devoured rather quickly as well as the garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Falls off the bone and the mash was creamy and light. Seafood ravioli sat in a bed of tomato sauce that could be poured and eaten with anything it was that delightful. Extra bread for the table was perfect for dunking and getting all the sauce up. The steak wasn't that great and took some time to finish and was a bit of a disappointment and needed extra dessert to wash it down. MAHI MAHI carpaccio was a special, and done very well paired with tart grapefruit and spicy arugula. Probably could have stopped there but we order three desserts... Out of the three, the Pavlova was by far the most refreshing and light. Nutella crime brûlée's was dense and hard to finish as well as the slice of double chocolate brownie and salted Carmel ice cream. This is a BYOB establishment so be prepared. I love this local spot because it's very intimate and perfect for a date night out. We arrived on time for our 8 pm reservation and were seated at a spacious corner table. Our waitress was attentive, and even though it's a BYOB, made sure to keep our wine glasses full. We started with a burrata appetizer that was the perfectly consistency and very fresh. The prosciutto and pears was a perfect pairing with it. For our mains we had short rib special and the duck breast. I have been here many years and the short ribs are consistently flavorful. My husbands duck was cooked perfectly, and the outside had a nice crisp to it. My husband is gluten free, which can leave you stuck with flourless chocolate cake or ice cream as your only choices. However St. Eves had a beautifully done Merengue with lime curd. Although the merengue was hard, the consistency was crispy and perfect to go with the velvety texture of the lime curd. I had the peach cobbler, which was good but not a stand out. Overall I would recommend this spot to anyone, it can be a causal dinner with friends or a night out celebrating. read more
