I was never skeptical when I noticed the confidence in the owners eyes when he explained to me the details of the Lotus Belgian Waffle. The waffle itself was quite good. It was well made and a very good texture. The ends had a gentle crunch and the inside was semi soft and slightly dense. The waffle came topped with sliced bananas and strawberries, and a whole Lotus Biscoff cookie as a garnish, not to mention a heavy drizzle of that terrific Lotus sauce. I've kinda held off on this review for a while because there are times where the food is fine to where sometimes it isn't even edible . I've also had a bad experience where we ordered 4 crepes and arrived 3 min after closing and when we came in they tell us next time they'll charge us a "late fee" . Should've stopped coming back right after that . Lesson learned. Today, Ordered the pistachio waffle and my waffle is hard as a rock and had to wait 30 minutes for this . Also , they are becoming very stingy with everything over the past year.. Crepes use to come with a good amount of ice cream 2-3 scoops max on top and now they put in probably a spoon of it in a sample cup. Came here on Sunday all the way from LA just to try the famous location. Their deserts are well known throughout all of San Diego and in fact are well-known in California. The line was out the door with even people waiting to pick it up for delivery services such as DoorDash. The owner was more than friendly and explained to us the different desserts and even let us try a few different ones as well. The staff was polite, respectful, and they even themselves were aware of all the ingredients. To start we had a Middle Eastern coffee that was heated in a concoction that had sand in it to evenly heat the coffee. It was such a cool experience and the coffee was very similar to an espresso but tasted way better. We had a family platter which included the variety cream puffs. They were my absolute favorite, The unlimited burrito which was incredibly rich, a classic crepe, and a crepe with pistachio. We also were served kanefe. It was delicious. Thank God we had water after that because we over ordered. But the sweets were absolutely delicious. Dont forget to try their refreshers and their fresh juices. There's a new place to get crepes in town! El Cajon has been lacking a good place to get some crepes, until I found this place on yelp! Cafe 88 offers a variety of things, from crepes to açaí bowls to juices and smoothies. Having a killer sweet tooth, I decided on a kinder crepe. It comes with crushed kinder pieces, white and milk chocolate. I called my order ahead of time and I was told the wait would be 15 minutes until it would be ready. I got there 20 minutes later and my crepe still wasn't ready. I waited an additional 10 minutes, a total of 30 minutes for my crepe. Finally getting home and trying the crepe, it was pretty good. I think it could've been cooked a tad more. The filling was delicious. I could tell that they were using good quality chocolate. Overall, it was a decent crepe and I was happy I didn't have to drive too far for it. The service was great at this place and it's been designed to be very study friendly. Very cute little place.
