I was really excited to try this ice cream shop after seeing it all over Instagram and TikTok. Everyone seemed to be calling it one of the best ice cream spots in San Diego, and after finally trying it for myself, I completely understand the hype. We waited nearly an hour and a half, close to two hours, in line near closing time. It was freezing outside, and there were definitely moments when we questioned whether it was worth it. Looking back, I can honestly say it was. One thing that immediately stood out was the service. The staff continuously came through the line offering samples, explaining the different flavors, sharing how some of them were created, and helping people decide what they might enjoy before reaching the counter. It made the long wait feel much more manageable and showed how much they genuinely care about the customer experience. When it was finally our turn, I was completely overwhelmed in the best way possible. Every flavor I sampled seemed better than the last. Even the flavors I was convinced I would not like ended up surprising me and becoming some of my favorites. The creativity, quality, and balance of flavors were honestly impressive. Everything tasted unique, thoughtful, and incredibly well executed. My friends and I spent so much time trying to decide which flavors to choose because there were simply too many good options. That is not a problem I usually have at an ice cream shop. The only thing I regret is not ordering a bigger size. The moment I finished my ice cream, I wished I had gotten a larger cup or cone because it was that good. This place is truly a gem. I would love to see them expand beyond San Diego because I have no doubt they would be just as successful in Los Angeles and Orange County. While I hope the line is a little shorter next time, I would absolutely come back and wait for this ice cream again. It was one of the most memorable desserts I have had in a long time. read more

This place was cute! There was a bit of a long line, but it was expected for its reputation. I enjoyed the sampling experience and the delicious flavors. I came at 3:20ish on a Saturday morning and waited like 25 minutes. While in line, we were given a ginger lime palette cleanser sorbet. Once we got there, we were given a little tour of their flavors. Each one was explained and given to my group. I chose Leather and Foulard. Both were delicious! I love an ice cream with texture, so I liked how the cookies were mixed in. They also had Linen which was really nice and fresh. Love the variety within their limited flavors. Visit June 2026 A visit to any An's establishment is a visit to gelato heaven and An's Dry Cleaning is the one that started it all. An's gelato is sheer perfection. Creamy. Silky. Packed with flavor. Their creativity is mind blowing without being a "why on earth would you put that out" experience. This visit was the last day of the Ube menu celebrating Filipino culture and the line was hella long but worth the wait. I love the An's business model where you get a flavor tour starting with their palate cleanser. I hate having to go to a gelato shop and ask to sample with fear of judgment. Nope, you get to sample it all if you've never been to An's then that itself is a fun experience. The staff is also so friendly and patient which is amazing considering they probably go through a hundred flavor tours a day (and that might be underestimating.) There are always some standards "dry cleaning" themed flavors such as Leather (brown butter and chocolate chip cookies) and Cypress (super rich dark chocolate) but the Ube theme was ofc the highlight menu and they came up with some oh so masarap combinations. You're limited to two flavors for a cup and man it was difficult to choose. I got the "t'nalak" (which was Ube, honeycomb, and chocolate) and "tubaw" (which is Ube, Vietnamese coffee partnered from Saigon Coffee, and whipped cream). Damn right I put it in a waffle cone. Finally made it to An's Dry Cleaning and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Kasuri (pandan & matcha), and it was delicious: creamy, balanced, and not overly sweet. The pandan really stood out, while the matcha added a nice earthy flavor without overpowering it. I came here last Friday with my family. The line wasn't insanely long but it moved slow only because of the flavor tours. I didn't mind too much. I wonder if they upgraded the counter area because it felt like the green section protruded more than usual - hard to reach the tasting spoon they were handing. They were quite generous with the tasters too! I ended up getting: - Malong (vegan), it's their coconut gelato base with some coconut chunks, mixed with ube halaya. They use the physical ube (not extract) which is why the flavor is a little more subtle and you don't see that overwhelming bright purple color. The ube is cooked on a stove top with coconut milk, sugar, and coconut oil. I've seen some vids of this and it looks so decadent! I really liked this flavor, but like I said the ube was quite subtle so I mainly got coconut. - I paired this with Cypress, their midnight chocolate flavor. I felt that these two choices worked very well together! It was similar to mounds candy bar. While we were doing the flavor tour I felt like the caramel overtook the toasted coconut and ube and the black sesame was really strong. It was all that I could taste, when the next flavor was given to me. The collaboration with Saigon Coffee was a little surprising with how light the coffee tasted. However, my brother did enjoy that one-- which it's called Tubaw. My mom liked T'nalak, their chocolate covered honeycomb in their ube gelato base. She paired it with the Sagada, the toasted coconut caramel swirled in their ube gelato base. Overall, it was nice to try these special Ube flavors before it was gone. Love all the An's and ran down here today for the new Ube flavors! They have 5! All of the An's have the flavor tour which is great as I was able to taste all of the Ube offerings. They are all bomb. I decided on Tubaw ( Ube with Vietnamese Coffee Whipped Cream) and T'nalak (Ube, honeycomb toffee and chocolate. Again the price is very reasonable here for 2 artisan scoops in a waffle cone for $8.45.The only downside is parking is terrible. When I finally found parking they installed the Balboa Park type electronic meters which are terrible. The parking meters are till 8pm as well. Went here on a Sunday afternoon, and there was already a 45-minute wait in line. Once I got to the front, I understood why! They let you sample ALL of the flavors! In fact, it is highly encouraged that you do! That alone made the wait worth it for me, because it was like a mini ice-cream flight! The workers were EXTREMELY KIND and patient, even though I can't imagine the stress they must go through working at a place that is constantly crowded and demanding. The store is quite small, and there are 2-3 tables outside, but it's very crowded and busy, so we just went back to our car. One hour for gelato? Was it worth it? Unfortunately, absolutely. The vibes are immaculate, the service is perfect, and the flavors are so unique. My friends and I came here on a Thursday night with no major expectations, besides knowing this spot is popular for satisfying a sweet treat craving in the San Diego area. We immediately had a great first impression when one of the workers came out with samples for us to try while we waited in line. Later on, we realized it was just a preview of the sampling experience we were about to have. The worker was so funny, and our group was so amused that it genuinely hyped us up while we waited. Even though the line was about an hour, it honestly did not feel that bad. The shop itself is small, and just as a heads up, parking can be hard to find. This is more of a grab-and-go spot, and there is no seating. We debated which flavors to get since they all sounded so interesting. We were surprised that instead of asking what we wanted to sample, they literally gave us a little bit of everything. It was such a fun experience, and we were so stoked. Though there's a long line, it's worth the wait because of the wonderful service they provide you. You are given an experience when it's your turn. First, they have you started with a palate cleanser (ginger, lemon, honey) - so refreshing! Then, they have you try each gourmet flavor. Each flavor is unique and they swap them out every month. Though we were feeling gluttonous and wanted to get absolutely everything, we practiced self restraint and landed on four flavors: 1. Strawberry, jasmine, mochi 2. TLDR: It's another An's experience that I think is worth having. I'm glad that they keep the flavors different per location, and I'm excited to try all locations. Motherboard: Chocolate, peanut butter, honey, and condensed milk. You'd expect it to be a sugar bomb, but I'm glad that that wasn't the case. I feel that there is a good balance when it comes to the bitterness of the chocolate and the sweetness of the other ingredients added. Came here on a Monday afternoon to try the Ube menu. The line wasn't to long and we waited about 30 minutes. Once the line got longer a staff member even started to give samples to get the line moving faster. Once we go to the front, we got to try all the flavors and the employee informs us about each of the flavors. I choose the sagada and tubaw in a cone. I was excited for the tubaw which had an Ube with Vietnamese coffee and whipped cream . I was expecting more of a coffee taste. The sagada tasted good with the Ube and caramel coconut, it was good, I thought the caramel and coconut was a little overwhelming and couldn't really taste the Ube. In light of my belly, I normally only get the smallest size ice cream available at any ice cream shop I visit, but this flavor was so scrumptious I had to splurge by sizing up. I stand corrected (and was corrected) that theirs is actually gelato, not ice cream. I almost feel like shouting from the rooftops something similar to that old commerical for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, "I can't believe it's not ice cream!" So why the -1? While I'm grateful for what partly makes this place as awesome as it is: their handing you free samples of all their flavors, their others flavors were just underwhelming to me this time, which was part of the reason I couldn't decide on a second flavor, unexpected for sure. The consensus in our group was that of wasn't worth the long wait we had, it took us about 40 minutes at least. Parking here is tough, so plan ahead and hope you get lucky. The line wrapped around the building, so i did appreciate them bringing around multiple samples for us to try some we waited. Also as soon as you get up to the counter they have you sample all of the flavors so you can choose what you want. I did a cone with Leather and Coppola. Leather was a brown butter flavor with chocolate chip cookie pieces of their in house made cookies. The Coppola also had the same cookies, but also add Nutella. When i tried the samples in small tastings it tasted good, but once i got a cone full it was just too much... of everything. I couldn't finish it unfortunately because it was just too rich and sweet. I think i should have balanced it out and not gotten 2 cookie flavors. I will say the cone itselfwas amazing, and one of the better ones ive had. It definitely tasted. Like it was made in house. If you like gelato they definitely have some interesting flavors, and the rotate them periodically, so I'd say check them out to see if you think it lives up to the hype and you don't mind the line. I stopped in on a Thursday around 5 PM and was in and out in under 5 minutes, but by 7 PM, the line was out the door. For the love of ice cream, we waited 45 minutes in the cold night air for our turn to sample and order some of An's sweet creations. There were sone really cool and unique flavors, which made it particularly hard to decide. I ultimately chose a half scoop of the Purple Foulard and Broken Heart Brocade. The 2 flavors went well together. The only place to sit inside the shop was an L-shaped bench where we temporarily perched on as we shifted closer to the ice cream counter. Once we got our ice cream, we managed to snag one of the mini ironing board "tables." It was standing room only, but we didn't mind. There were a few small tables in front of the shop, but honestly it was too crowded to even consider sitting there. I don't know what kind of happy pills the employees were on, but they were all incredibly upbeat, playful, and energetic. Idk why we have never been here when we are in SD quite often! The shop is very quirky and cute. Laundry mat turned ice cream shop and they kept the original name. Very creative! We stood in line on a Fri night for about 40-45 mins but it was definitely worth it. They only have about 5 flavors that change at a time and during our visit the flavors I liked best were the tres leches one and the one with brown butter. Their cones are sooo good! I got it on the side and ate the whole thing like a cookie lol sorbet flavors were too sweet for me but if you like really sweet things... you will like it. A great bonus (esp for my husband) is that everything is gluten free! Even the waffle cones. Staff are so so nice and u can tell they're being genuinely nice too. Super friendly and easy to talk to. I wasn't able to distinguish the other flavors they had listed (guava, pineapple, passion fruit, and blood orange + Meyer lemon jam) aside from the dominance of the guava taste, but I like guava, so if you like guava it's very guava-y. ---- It took 13 minutes to get my gelato from the time I walked inside the shop to having the gelato in my hand. There was a line of 10 or more people (some grouped together), and each one had to go through their "flavor tour" which was pretty thorough. Having to go through the script of what to say for each flavor is very repetitive so thank you to the hard workers for having to explain it in the same way every single time, to every customer, I appreciate you guys. Jay conducted a "flavor tour" and provided samples of each flavor that they had, starting with a palate cleanser that was light and a bit citrusy. Then they moved from right to left on their menu. The little spoonful they give is surprisingly enough to be able to taste the depth of flavor for what they offer. That was my determining factor of which were standouts to me. While I love their variety of flavors, with there being 7 available, I thought that Léine and Kilt were a bit too similar. Both were coffee-based with an alcoholic infusion. Léine is made up of baileys (Irish cream liqueur), cold brew, coffee ganache and Kilt being coffee, Irish whiskey, vanilla shortbread. The difference between the two is the coffee ganache (white chocolate and coffee) and vanilla shortbread, which aren't strong enough flavors to distinguish between the two (at least on the little spoon I had of each). So to me, they were both just fundamentally coffee flavored gelatos, which I think could have replaced with a different flavor. Nit-pickiness aside, I fully understand the amount of time, effort, and energy it takes to put into flavor creation and testing so I am in awe and completely appreciate An's for having the capacity to have a rotating flavor menu every 2 weeks. ---- The theme of the shop is a dry cleaners with their flavors named after different fabrics which is a cute concept. The decor matches cohesively with "ironing table" tables and their merch hung up on clothes hangers. The space inside is quite small to stand around and sit in bc there's always a line of people, but they have a few outside seats if you're lucky enough to grab one. Parking is also pretty tough, with street parking available but luckily I snagged a 15 min parking spot near the shop. ---- Overall: it was a great first experience, hard to find parking, a little bit of a wait to order but worth it for their flavorful gelatos. We found some metered street parking just across the street on a quiet afternoon in the middle of the week. The aesthetic of the shop was pretty cute. Instagram definitely tricked me into thinking this place would look more like a dry cleaner, but it was still cute. I loved all the bright colors and themed flavors! The shop was also very clean to the point where I saw one of the staff members wiping down the tables outside as well. The staff here were incredibly kind! I'm not sure if they always do this, but the person who helped us gave us a little tour of the flavors. She explained each flavor thoroughly and let us try each one before we made our final decisions. Although not all the flavors agreed with my palate, I appreciate the thought put into each one. She even said we were allowed to get two flavors, so I picked "Brocade" and "Leather" because I thought they would pair well together. I was right because they tasted great together! I also loved the gelato texture. It was really smooth and fun to eat. I ended up getting myself a pin as well, but they also sell shirts and sweaters that you can see hanging behind the glass. 5 stars. We sampled all 7 flavors, and the counter person walked us through each one--the flavor profile, inspiration, and what made it unique. I ended up with Linen and Cypress. Both were outstanding. An's used to be an actual dry cleaner and kept the name. Probably the only place where you walk in expecting starch and leave talking about the best gelato you've ever had. Or slightly more in your voice: 5 stars. The staff gave us a guided tour of all 7 flavors, explaining the inspiration behind each one. Nice touch and not something you see very often. Be prepared for long lines in the summer. It's best to go in the morning. I went with Linen and Cypress. Honestly, the best gelato I've ever had. Cypress, dark chocolate is decadent, extremely rich so get another flavor to counter it. An's used to be a real dry cleaner. Now it serves gelato. I can't think of a better career change. read more

An's Dry Cleaning is a nod to the previous establishment which stood the test of time since 1934. A while back, I came across an article rating the top 10 gelato shops in America. An's was voted #1 by USA Today! Pretty impressive! So we tried it! I couldn't have imagined the craze it stirred within our community! I waited over an hour before I got inside the parlor. Overall impression, An's Dry Cleaning lives up to the hype! They serve high quality, small batch gelato that's made from scratch using fresh, local ingredients. The vibe is lively. The staff are friendly. However, I wouldn't necessarily agree that the anticipation built by waiting in long lines increases the perceived reward. Don't get me wrong, it's really good gelato, just not worth waiting in line for over an hour. 4.5 stars - Love An's Gelato and this location was the first with tribute to the dry cleaner who used to run their biz in the space. They theme all their locations with the greatest attention to detail and work with local businesses for flavors and recipes. Their gelato is delicious and the flavor tour they offer to all customers is an amazing experience to sample every flavor with a palate cleanser to start. (Also why the lines are long but it's a great experience). Quality and service is top notch, on the pricier side, but their portions are generous allowing two flavor selections in most sizes. Came specifically recently for the Paru tea matcha collab and it didn't disappoint. Favorites were the Gomazuri with matcha and black sesame (the black sesame bits were a nice texture and flavor) and the Kasuri with matcha and Pandan. They do pints too which you can skip the line to order online and pickup. Street parking in the neighborhood can be tough. Theres a paid lot near Polite Provisions as well but it's small. read more
