$28.73 all in for three orders: Short, Tall, and a Cone. Let's get the obvious part out of the way: there was a line. It was two storefronts long. It took us 43 minutes to get to the counter. Forty-three minutes. At that point, you have enough time to question your life choices, make several new friends, and convince yourself that gelato is technically a meal. This place isn't really set up like a typical ice cream shop. There's one register and two scoopers, and the scoopers seem to rotate through like Vegas blackjack dealers as they go through a very deliberate routine. Watching them work felt less like standing in line at an ice cream shop and more like being taken on a small culinary tour. And that's intentional. An's calls it a "flavor tour," offering guests a sample of every flavor before ordering. Their menu rotates every couple of weeks, and the gelato is made from scratch with fresh, local ingredients. There were seven menu items, but there's always eight flavors and they offer samples of everything. We arrived when there was a shift change, and the person behind the counter asked if we wanted to do the samples or just order. After waiting 43 minutes, do you think I wanted the samples? Hell yeah I did. At that point, I had earned my tiny cup of gelato. I truly appreciated the experience. It never felt like the staff was simply trying to get people through the line. They were explaining flavors, answering questions, and actually providing a service. The scoopers really are more like tour guides. During the wait outside, I walked over to the bottle shop on the corner and bought us some water. When I came back, someone from An's came outside and offered everyone in line a cup of water. Lol. Apparently they had already figured out that people standing in the sun on the sidewalk for 43 minutes might need hydration. But that's service. The parking situation is tight. I had to make a few circles before finding a spot, which meant my gelato pilgrimage had an appropriate amount of suffering attached to it. But then came the payoff. The product is excellent. Every flavor we tried was delicious, including the Phở, which I absolutely did not expect to like as much as I did. Somehow, it works as do all the flavors. The curators use ingredients that taste like they actually matter. The flavors are distinct, balanced, and thoughtfully constructed rather than just being unusual for the sake of being unusual. I went with the cone, which is by far the best value of the three options, and had Pienfu and Hampton. Pienfu is oolong with butterscotch peanut butter. Hampton combines dark chocolate, white chocolate, and butter cookie. Separately, both were fantastic. Together, these were even better. Would I wait 43 minutes again? Absolutely not. Would I happily come back and eat more of this gelato? Absolutely. There have to be some off-hours when I can walk in without joining a standing parade; and when I find that time, I'll be back. The flavors are creative without being gimmicky, the ingredients are top-notch, the staff actually engages with customers, and the whole thing feels like there's genuine care behind it. I have never been to an Ice Cream place with this much entertaining staff , each staff member really takes the time to talk to the customer next in line and patiently hands a lot of samples , we thought we were only gonna have a 1-sample scoop but like other customers in line before us that we saw had a lot of ice cream samples to try, we had many too before having our order. We ended up here coz our dinner table nearby wasn't ready yet. We got curious to stop by here when we saw a long line. We thought at First its a dry cleaning shop because of the name " ANN DRY CLEANING ", but the closer we got closer thats when we saw it was an Ice cream place. Unique is the word I'd use to describe this place. From its misleading yet charming name to their awesome customer service, I couldn't help but smile throughout the process. That being said the first thing to get off my chest is that the wait is LONG. Whether I just went at a bad time (which I did because it was a Saturday night) or it's just consistently busy, it amounts to roughly an hour give or take for ice cream. I do like that the history of the name derives from actually taking over from a dry cleaners and them wanting to honor the prior business. The ice cream flavors are definitely unique and tasty. The expectation of it's reputation comes from it being touted as one of the best ice cream parlors by some publications. Although it was good, It wasn't the most mind blowing ice cream I've had. Suuuuper long line at 9 pm on a weekday. The line wrapped around the corner. Took 45 min to get to the front. Saw a bunch of IG reels about this place so really wanted to try it. I've had this place on my radar for quite a while. This Comic-Con trip was the opportunity to finally visit. They have a limited menu that seems to change frequently. They come up some really creative flavors that you just don't find anywhere else. All of their ice cream is gluten free. Even the waffle cones are gluten free as well. The workers are very pleasant and happy to let you sample the various flavors. I chose the Minky which is a blend of pineapple and coconut. I got my order in a cup which turned out to be a mistake. Both my wife and son got their orders on a cone and it seemed like they got a lot more ice cream than I did even though we all ordered the same size. I apologize for not including pictures but we had our ice cream in the car and in the heat we experienced, I don't believe the pictures would have done the ice cream justice. Very cool concept naming the shop after the business that preceded it. I may need to find a real dry cleaner after spilling drops of melted goodness on my shirt. Be warned that parking can be a real challenge in this area. If Friday at 2 PM was a pain, I imagine Saturday and Sunday must be atrocious. read more

Finally stopped by An's Dry Cleaning and I have to say - this gelato is absolutely amazing. I came by Monday around 1pm and there were 5-6 people ahead of me, but very soon there were 20+ behind me out the door. Staff is SO friendly and patient, explaining all the flavors and what not. The menu is slightly confusing because it's not clear that the top names like "loafer" or "merino" are the flavors and the ingredients are listed below. But the workers were super kind enough to explain and offer samples. I ordered a cone with the Loafer and Ripstop flavor, it was a big cone and they FILL that thing up! You really get a lot of ice cream and they don't skimp. For $9, it's well worth the quantity alone. The cone itself is probably one of the best, if not "the" best waffle cone I've ever had. It was still warm, crispy, fresh, and had an amazing vanilla aroma and flavor. The two flavors were amazing on there own but here's why I just can't give a five star review. As great as the flavors are, they are pretty unique and out-of-ordinary for ice cream shops, so they don't pair too well together. I had initially also tried the merino and that was way too strong to balance with another flavor so I thought the Loafer and Ripstop (which the employee compared to a rocky road) would pair better. The merino has saffron and honeycomb which are pretty distinct flavors and stand out in the ice cream itself without even being paired with another flavor. So that just overpowered the ripstop. HOWEVER - both ice creams had tremendous flavor and they were so stretchy and creamy. The Merino was almost floral while the ripstop was hearty and had big pieces of brownie and marshmallow. Gelato is good, but not life changing. I was super eager to try this spot because of all the hype online. Wait is not worth it. They let you sample all flavors and encourage it which I think causes a huge delay. There was maybe 15 people ahead in line and it took 30 minutes. Menu is largely displayed, so people are able to narrow down their decision before reaching the counter. I'm unsure what was going on the day I visited, but there was an extremely foul odor on the inside which made me nauseous. I overheard other customers complaining about this as well. An air purifier would've helped the situation. As for the gelato itself it was pretty good. Perfect texture of gelato. Hampton flavor was good, but a bit boring. We were lucky that it wasn't TOO busy when we were here, but it does take a while for the line to move. It's mostly because they let you taste all the flavors before deciding what to order. Visit June 2026 A visit to any An's establishment is a visit to gelato heaven and An's Dry Cleaning is the one that started it all. An's gelato is sheer perfection. Creamy. Silky. Packed with flavor. Their creativity is mind blowing without being a "why on earth would you put that out" experience. This visit was the last day of the Ube menu celebrating Filipino culture and the line was hella long but worth the wait. I love the An's business model where you get a flavor tour starting with their palate cleanser. I hate having to go to a gelato shop and ask to sample with fear of judgment. Nope, you get to sample it all if you've never been to An's then that itself is a fun experience. The staff is also so friendly and patient which is amazing considering they probably go through a hundred flavor tours a day (and that might be underestimating.) There are always some standards "dry cleaning" themed flavors such as Leather (brown butter and chocolate chip cookies) and Cypress (super rich dark chocolate) but the Ube theme was ofc the highlight menu and they came up with some oh so masarap combinations. You're limited to two flavors for a cup and man it was difficult to choose. I got the "t'nalak" (which was Ube, honeycomb, and chocolate) and "tubaw" (which is Ube, Vietnamese coffee partnered from Saigon Coffee, and whipped cream). Damn right I put it in a waffle cone. I have lived in San Diego for just over a year now, and have visited An's countless times: during the summer when the lines are out the door in the heat, winter when the line is still there and it's pouring rain, and everything in between. Do NOT let the lines steer you away - I promise it is very worth it. It isn't only the ice cream that makes it worth the wait, but the overall experience. First of all, one of the hardest decisions for me when getting ice cream is the flavors to try. The flavor tour they do here completely extinguishes any concern around asking to try too many flavors or being indecisive and is something that I think is so unique and honestly that the world needs more of. The flavor tour alone is amazing, but what makes it so amazing is the people behind it. Every single employee I've ever interacted with here has been the most kind and incredible people. You can tell they genuinely want to be there and love talking to people and bonding over a shared love of ice cream. Another reason that I believe the line adds to the experience is everyone is all waiting in line for the same thing - amazing ice cream. It turns a mundane thing like going out for a sweet treat into such a unique experience. I have met so many people in line for this place you wouldn't believe! People from all different backgrounds and walks of life truly make An's feel like a homey environment, and I believe it really sets it apart from other ice cream places. Of course the ice cream is also to die for! When we first arrived, there was a line outside and it did take some time to get through so I was really hoping it wouldn't be overhyped. When you finally get to the counter there are a set of man of flavors. I think they said they were new every week and they have you try each and every flavor and they tell you what you're gonna be tasting how it's gonna be. I came here last Friday with my family. The line wasn't insanely long but it moved slow only because of the flavor tours. I didn't mind too much. I wonder if they upgraded the counter area because it felt like the green section protruded more than usual - hard to reach the tasting spoon they were handing. They were quite generous with the tasters too! I ended up getting: - Malong (vegan), it's their coconut gelato base with some coconut chunks, mixed with ube halaya. They use the physical ube (not extract) which is why the flavor is a little more subtle and you don't see that overwhelming bright purple color. The ube is cooked on a stove top with coconut milk, sugar, and coconut oil. I've seen some vids of this and it looks so decadent! I really liked this flavor, but like I said the ube was quite subtle so I mainly got coconut. - I paired this with Cypress, their midnight chocolate flavor. I felt that these two choices worked very well together! It was similar to mounds candy bar. While we were doing the flavor tour I felt like the caramel overtook the toasted coconut and ube and the black sesame was really strong. It was all that I could taste, when the next flavor was given to me. The collaboration with Saigon Coffee was a little surprising with how light the coffee tasted. However, my brother did enjoy that one-- which it's called Tubaw. My mom liked T'nalak, their chocolate covered honeycomb in their ube gelato base. She paired it with the Sagada, the toasted coconut caramel swirled in their ube gelato base. Overall, it was nice to try these special Ube flavors before it was gone. I liked that they let us sample and gave us a super quick summary for all of the flavors they had this day which were six. And that's another thing I learned that the flavors change daily or at least often. The shop was not busy did not wait in a long line. An's really lives up to its reputation as the #1 ice cream shop in the nation. We had a different gelato the night before that was really good, but An's beat that too. First, I love the interior design that maintains the dry cleaner theme so creatively. It's both quaint and charming. Though there's a long line, it's worth the wait because of the wonderful service they provide you. You are given an experience when it's your turn. First, they have you started with a palate cleanser (ginger, lemon, honey) - so refreshing! Then, they have you try each gourmet flavor. Each flavor is unique and they swap them out every month. Though we were feeling gluttonous and wanted to get absolutely everything, we practiced self restraint and landed on four flavors: 1. Strawberry, jasmine, mochi 2. Honey, lavender, oat, white chocolate 3. Brown butter and chocolate chip cookies 4. Goat cheese, apricot, and saffron Everything was so good texture and flavor wise, and I already can't wait to go back to SD next month just to try new flavors! Went here on a Sunday afternoon, and there was already a 45-minute wait in line. Once I got to the front, I understood why! They let you sample ALL of the flavors! In fact, it is highly encouraged that you do! That alone made the wait worth it for me, because it was like a mini ice-cream flight! The workers were EXTREMELY KIND and patient, even though I can't imagine the stress they must go through working at a place that is constantly crowded and demanding. The store is quite small, and there are 2-3 tables outside, but it's very crowded and busy, so we just went back to our car. The parking was also quite hard to navigate, so we had one person look for parking while the others waited in line. I would definitely go here again to try their new monthly flavors! read more

I have been wanting to try this gelato shop for a while though, but it is always super crowded! I was able to come on a Monday afternoon and only had to wait a couple minutes before being helped. I felt it was more of an experience as they started you with a palate cleanser and walked you through all the flavors, having you sample each one rather than you asking for specific samples like every other ice cream / gelato shop I've ever been to. They provided a description of each flavor and a sample. The flavors are definitely unique and most nothing like I've tried before. They change their menu every two weeks. There were two stations of flavors, so two parties being helped at one time. I can see how the wait can be long on weekends or summer evenings. The shop is small inside with a little bench by the window for seating and just three small tables outside. I was able to find parking a short walk away, but that could also be a challenge on a weekend. I ordered a tall cup with two flavors side by side (lingerie and ripstop). The gelato was creamy and delicious. I'd love to be able to come here again and try new flavors! read more
