Second time there is about a month. Great friendly service. The owner Daniel whom I told was named after me is a true gentleman and always a pleasure to talk with. We spoke about sports, our dogs and of course the great food at the restaurant. I had delicious Zuppa and my friends had terrific Veal Chops. The waiter even came out to present them to us first before cooking. My wife had a yummy mixed seafood over pasta with a nice light white sauce. Their famous Potato and Escarole side dish, truly wonderful. If you ever go for the Calamari with clams and Mussels, I will also recommend it. What's in a name? In this case, Giulio Cesare - the restaurant's moniker (and the owners' actual names!) seems apt. Long the denizen of Nassau County power brokers, we humbler residents decided to pay GC a visit for dinner early on a Tuesday evening. Phone reservations necessary. Parking in an adjacent private lot was valet-free (yay!). The place was hopping when we entered the classically decorated venue, and many diners seemed to be regulars. Tables are well spaced and comfy. Our friendly server Samuel showed us the ropes. He explained that one can order off the menu, or the chef is happy to prepare something else if desired. As newbies we stuck with tried and true Italian dishes and weren't disappointed. Things started off well with french martinis, well chilled, tasty (not overly sweet) and potent. When hubby quickly devoured the fresh crusty bread, Samuel asked if we wanted more and brought us a plate of fresh garlic bread on the house. Yes now we're talkin!! Caprese salad app, comprised of a huge beefsteak tomato with a slab of fresh mozzarella, was nicely bathed in flavorful olive oil. The baked clams were scrumptious but pricey. Frutte di mare entrée, pasta bathed in a light pomodoro sauce, had a nice variety of seafood/shellfish including plenty of calamari with rings and tentacles (hubby's fave). Shrimp reganati, lightly breaded huge butterflied crustaceans resting on pasta (or spinach if one wishes) was pure garlicky goodness. We were stuffed by then but decided to take some food home to make room for dessert. The tartufo, rich ice cream encased in a round thin chocolate shell, was delish. Italian cheesecake had a unique fruity base, the best I've ever had among many. The friendly owner made the rounds and stopped by our table to say hello. Nice vibe. Next time we'll order less food as portions were very generous, not always the case at high end Italian eateries like GC. The dinner was disgusting! one order was gnocchi and they were like oatmeal in a soupy sauce. why would a chef allow that kind of product to go out? another order was veal Milanese which was cheaply made with iceberg lettuce instead of arugula! chicken cutlet didn't come with pasta side? pasta e fagioli soup was so salty it was inedible! Clams casino were standout. We got all the other clams too, oregenata, white, red and baked. Casino were memorable. Caesar salad was very good. As was the escarole soup. The chicken cacciatore was not as good as I was expecting - too dry. The veal scarp was really good, the veal valdostana was good. Too much meat on top, but mushroom sauce was great. Came here a few weeks ago with friends for dinner and it was the perfect spot to enjoy some food, wine and catch up! The service here was fantastic and so warm and personable. I always like some family/friend owned spots and especially when they've been in a location for awhile. We split a Caesar salad and fried mozzarella for apps and it was plenty for 4 of us. Both the dressing of the salad and the sauce was homemade and yummy. For dinner my husband and I shared chicken parm and shrimp scampi. Both has great flavor and the shrimp in particular were large and juicy- not cheap shrimp by any means. The one thing that bothered me a bit is that the mains don't come with pasta. I know that this can be common place at some Italian spots but I really thought my shrimp scampi would come with some carbs. It's OK though as we ordered a sharing pasta dish for the table so it worked out :) All in all, a tasty meal and look forward to returning!! read more

I dined here with friends this past week and had heard wonderful things about this place. Supposedly an iconic venue for real Italian food, not the cookie cutter of so many places on Long Island. My first experience was ordering two drinks, a glass of merlot for my man-friend, and a Sapphire gin martini for me. I was told the total was $32. I am no stranger to paying a lot to dine and drink out, nor am I cheap. But $32 for two drinks? The martini was standard, the merlot was from an insignifcantly named bottle. Plus tip, we had already dropped almost $40 on basic. My BF ordered the veal osso bucca, which came served over his choice of pasta. He started his meal with the shrimp cocktail. I ordered the baked clams and chose the filet of sole mauniere for my entree. When asked what sides I could get, the server told me that they put out a potatoes and escarole for the table. As a lover of escarole, I was content with that and decided not to order an additional side. Our waters were refilled regularly, the bread basket was standard and fine. The shrimp cocktail was tough and the baked clams were fishy and served over a watery "sauce". Baked clams are my "litmus test" for any Italian venue and I was highly disappointed in their lack of originality and flavor. Decent bread didn't even help mop up the blandness of the broth the clams were served over. Our entrees arrived and we each sampled a taste of one another's plates. The veal was somewhat tender and my BF questioned the bone marrow (or lack thereof). I had the filet of sole which was a relatively large piece, accompanied by 2 grilled shrimp and decent lemon sauce. The server came with the "potatoes and escarole" and I saw that they were mixed together in a dish. I took a scoop and immediately regretted not ordering a separate side. Imagine boiled potatoes mashed with the water they cooked in, then throw in some escarole. Leave out all the seasoning and salt, and you'd have this atrocious side dish. I'd heard about this place for years and couldn't wait to go. Even brushed off the costly ticket of the entrees and drinks. But when I spent $32.50 for a piece of fish that costs $5 and was served that mess of a communal side dish, I immediately questioned the palates of the people who recommended this place. I've heard people boast about their other meals, but I don't think we made a poor choice in our selections. Pretty standard entrees for an Italian retaurant. I wish their regulars well, but I will not be one of them. If you go there, BYO salt and pepper. And cash. Lots of cash. read more

Disappointed. Lovely ambiance, but the ceiling vent in the left dining room was blowing ice cold air on us, this on one of those nasty rainy days this spring. The waiter was not friendly, and he recited specials with complete lack of interest or emotion-like a robot. A robot with a pronounced accent with the voice speed on high. I could barely understand him and you could not tell when the description of one item ended and another began. We had to ask him to repeat himself multiple times and this annoyed him. I also felt rushed throughout; pressured to hurry up and order, pressured to hurry up and finish the appetizer, which itself arrived way too quickly. The appetizer was the best part. Butterflied shrimp oreganata and they were delicious. Can't recall if this was a special. We both chose osso Bucco and while it was huge, it was not soft and tender. You needed a serrated knife. Also lack of seasoning was noticeable and there was nothing in the way of sauce. The fresh made papardelle was bland. Everything needed salt. The green beans were something I could have thrown together at home except I wouldn't have burnt the garlic black like they did. Covering them in Parmesan made it bearable. They didn't charge us for the green beans. Our waiter mentioned this but didn't say why. Maybe he overheard us. Oh, also no one came around to see how we were doing. When you consider the price level, service was actually atrocious. Was it just a really, really off night? Don't know and not coming back to find out. read more

Oh boy, this is a lively joint on Saturday evenings. If you are on Old Country Road and Ellison Avenue glance quickly to the east side of Ellison Avenue or you'll miss the white exteriored premises. Make the first right turn from Old Country Road and try to find non-valet parking in the restaurant's small lot. Look for street parking if you can't. I arrived early, bellied up to the bar, and enjoyed a very good Absolut Vodka Martini while I enjoyed a pleasant conversation with Vince, the friendly bartender.My group gradually arrived and my nine peeps were escorted to a small dining room adjacent to the bar area.The room was filled with diners and the noise level was above average. Our friendly waiter read us a nice list of specials.Kudos to him.He was very busy with multiple tables the entire evening but he never "disappeared" and was very accessible the entire evening. I started with a half order of Linguine with White Clam Sauce ($11.50). I enjoyed it. I then opted for Veal Osso Buco ($45.00), a difficult dish to find but one that Giuio Cesare is known for. As documented by my photo, I received a huge veal shank with gloriously fresh and flavorful Gnocchi beside it. The shank was lusciously gelatinous,laced with the perfect amount of fat and it exploded with flavor. A home run. My fellow diners enjoyed the Mozzarella Cakes, Spaghetti Amatriciana, Stuffed Artichoke, Roasted Peppers and a variety of veal dishes and seafood combination dishes(I would have identified these dishes better but the restaurant, unfortunately does not have a website with an accessible menu to assist me). BOTTOM LINE: Giulio Cesare is still relevant, and perhaps at its best, even after 47 years. Simply put, I want to return. read more

Unbelievable meal and top notch service. You must make reservations, indoor and outdoor (covered) tables are available. Not sure where to begin, they give a nice size drink from the bar. We started off with clams in white wine sauce and fried calamari, both were excellent. Fried calamari had both rings and tentacles fried perfectly and not chewy at all. Main course was veal Marsala, which was excellent, plenty of mushrooms, Gnocchi with tomato sauce, delicious, hand made, very light. Yesterday I went to the highly anticipated Giulio Cesare a stable in Westbury with my best friend. When we got inside the restaurant was an old school Italian vibe which I absolutely adored. When we sat down they gave us a bread. I was super impressed that one of the bread options they gave was whole wheat bread. I've never seen an Italian restaurant give whole wheat bread it blew my mind I couldn't stop talking about it. For the appetizers me and my friend got the seafood salad and the fried mozzarella. The fried mozzarella was to die for, and the sauce was Heaven, when I die and go to Heaven I want that sauce to be there when I arrive. They made that sauce homemade I never had a sauce that fresh in a long time from an Italian restaurant. The fried mozzarella was to die for!!Lightly fried so you can experience the taste of the mozzarella, and get that little fried bite as well. The seafood salad was amazing the calamari and octopus were tenter, and also the lemon made the dish 10 times better. Next were the entrees I got Gnocchi with a exquisite cream sauce. Gnocchi is my go to dish at every Italian restaurant. The Gnocchi was homemade which is beautiful, but they over cooked it, extremely soft, but the cream sauce saved the day with the amazing taste. Overall the entree was good but next time when I go back I have to get it with the red sauce. Next for dessert I got tiramisu. Now tiramisu is always going to be good so there's no going into detail for that. Overall an amazing experience, amazing food, and amazing staff. Dined here after about 15 years. Very disappoined in dated menu and furnishings. Old carpet and paneling. Apps have not been modernized, very average choices. My platter of mozzarella, tomato, eggplant, and asparagues was very cold and missing peppers. Eggplant was not stuffed nor hot. Tomato was unripe and not a beefsteak. We also dislike house wine.
