Matteo's is consistently delicious. The salad is crisp and fresh. The macaroni dishes are well seasoned and perfectly al dente. Their veal is tender and fabulous. But the stuffed artichokes! That's the highlight. The owners and service staff are friendly, happy, and attentive. The ambience is nice. My only negative comment are the bathrooms. Had a family dinner last night at Matteo's in Bellmore. Since they don't take reservations, I arrived about 5:30 and it was empty. The rest of the group was seated by 5:50pm and the crowd picked up by 7pm. The food was very good. The stand outs for me were the Baked Clams (delicious,the sai Uce needed to be mopped up with some bread), stuffed artichoke (large and well done), Chicken Francese ( thin cutlets with a great lemon punch) and the Bucatini Amatriciana (so enjoyable); everyone loved everything we ordered. A family style meal was too chaotic to get any pictures though. Service was friendly, however the food took a long time to come out...we didn't leave there until almost 9pm. So the hype isn't for me!! My husband raves about Matteo's but the penne vodka sauce is almost red. So not ok! I had the baked ziti as well and it was way too much cheese. Not what I had expected. Today, my sister's and I went to Matteo's in Belmore for dinner. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome by Tony (the owner) who walked us to our table to make sure everything was okay. We felt like family, and Josh was also very informative about the menu and the different pastas. He did everything with a smile and with wonderful customer service skills. Came here with some friends I was here visiting. They recommended this place as they usually get takeout from here quite a bit, although this was their first time dining in here. Came here on a Thursday night around 8:45 pm and got a table right away. The service was fast and friendly. So many great choices on the menu. We ordered up a bunch of family-style plates to share including the chopped salad, zucchini, grilled chicken paillard, penne alla vodka (w/o prosciutto), and the veal chop valdostana. The veal dish was by far the best veal I've ever had anywhere. The tenderness of the cutlet requires perfection when tenderizing and something that not too many places can get right. This place mastered it. Great wine menu here as well. Went through a couple bottles of Rodney Strong Cab which complimented the meal quite nicely. Great place, great atmosphere, and great food. Only thing that could've made it a 5-star would've been a slight improvement on service. There were a couple of times where we had to flag down a server for simple things like more water, more plates, etc. Definitely a place I would visit again though. Highly recommend. Baked clams are delicious and the sauce was fantastic (homemade bread on the table is perfect for dipping), friend calamari was a little chewy. This is one of the best local restaurants to have a party. I held my daughter's bridal shower here in 2019 and just had an 80th birthday party here for my father-in-law the other night. The service is outstanding and so is the food--they're extremely generous with their family-style way of serving and don't be surprised if you take home some leftovers (I'm Italian--it's extremely important to me that food doesn't run out on my guests)! Best of all, I don't even think the pricing has changed much since 2019--a rarity in this day and age. They always include house red and white wine with every package, too! Keri dealt with my crazy emails and made sure everything was perfect--a consummate professional at what she does! And our server Brian should teach a class on how to be an all-around, friendly, attentive master of his craft! Very average Italian (contrast that with Dario's in RVC, which is very good Italian). My friends shared the baked clams and enjoyed it. The veal parmigiana was smothered in cheese, very thin, and brown--which tells me they use veal patty instead of actual veal. The penne pomodoro, which one has to order separately as everything is served a la Carte, had a sauce that tasted like it was straight from a supermarket bought commercial brand jar--virtually no flavor.
