Not bad for a West coast Florida bagel I have especially enjoyed their breakfast bagels. They have good variety and fresh bagels from what I can see are not available anywhere else. This is a great place! We found it not long after we moved to Venice and have been coming ever since. It is a nice, family owned place. My cousins from Jersey cannot get over how good their Taylor ham and cheese bagel is! Honestly, it is one of my favorites! I alway like to bring visiting family from up north here. Went to buy bagels twice in several week. Different types twice and both were so hard and had to put in micorowave just to be able to cut. I think that we're made elsewhere and sent to them the next morning...very different from the past. Maybe new owner or made them yesterday ....as a New Yorker very disappointed...... read more

Cafe Bagel put out a good product. Their spreads are delicious and they make excellent large bagels. I love a good bagel with lox and cream cheese and this place does it as good as any. The problem is it is not the cleanest place in SWFL and the workers do not follow good sanitary procedures. I've seen them wipe their brow with their gloved hand, handle money with their gloved hand and then go right back to handling food. And it's every time I go into the place that I see these things. On the rare occasion that I do go anymore, I just go straight to a booth after ordering and don't watch. Another thing is the lack of humor on the part of the people (mostly kids) working there. They don't seem happy about being there which is often a sign of poor management and poor pay. read more

This is as close to a good long island / NY style deli bagel spot as i have found in FL. Fresh bagels. Boars Head. Good egg and cheese sandwiches. Fast / friendly. Well staffed. Good seating area. I will be coming back again to try the Sandwiches. I had everything bagel / egg and cheese and it was good. read more

The bagels tasted like cardboard. The service was very good though. The Venice water is bad so that probably explains it. At my hotel I couldn't even use the tap water to make tea as it was horrible. read more

I feel bad for people who did stay to eat there but didn't pay attention. The whole place was dirty!! The fans were never cleaned. Now for some of you that isn't a big deal, but here you re eating food and all that dirt is being spread right on top of you, your food, and on the entire work space of that kitchen where they are preparing your food. Now is that a big deal? The floor was had food all over it. I have seen gas station bathrooms cleaner than this. Don't even get me started on the tables. The counter is right in front of the door, so of course once it gets pack their isn't really any space for anyone to actually wait or walk in. Their is no clear direction. So people who are waiting have to direct the people who walk in where to go, because it is that crazy. Their customer service is one of the worst I have ever seen any place. They have 4 employees, no one smiles, greets, or seems to take a order without making it seem complicated. I saw one employee just stare off into space looking at everyone for a good solid 2 mins, like he had truly forgotten what to do. If you ask for your bagels to be toasted don't expect to get that. I used to work in a bakery and when we toasted a bagel, it was toasted. Cafe Bagel's def of toasted, is making you wait and then saying they toasted it. You truly can't tell one bit that they toasted the bagel, not one bit. I should have left once I saw all the dirt, knowing my food would most def have dirt on it and baked in it. Yet I was so tempted by the reviews I couldn't help by try this bagel place, I just had to know. It's nothing special. It's nothing more than you would get in a package from a store. I am just curious when their next health exp is due, because no way they would pass. read more
