Meh. Service was okay. Of the three of us, one liked her meal a lot. Thought that it was the best meal in a while. The other two of us, nope. Crab cakes. It took a bit to get an understanding of what crab was in them. They weren't bad, but they weren't great. Crab stuffed shrimp. Partly our mistake, ordering more crab, but if it's good, it shouldn't be an issue. But after careful asking is any bell pepper was on the crab, and getting a "no", it should be okay. The red bell pepper was pretty evident. Sesame crusted ahi. Normally ahi is served with a pan seared crust. This was just a soy glaze with sesame seeds. No crust. Normally the slices have a nice pink middle. Each and every slice was gray. Inside of each side, still pink. How did they turn it so unappealing? Flavor was okay, but bland. And the wasabi mashed potatoes? I love wasabi. I love wasabi flavored snacks. But the potatoes made my eyes water, they were so over flavored. No wonder the fish tasted bland. Creme Brulee - fine. Good crust, but custard was cold. Bread pudding - nope. Fail. The Amy's ice cream served with it was delish, but the pudding was left for scraps. We definitely cannot recommend Cafe Blue. Wish I could give negative stars. Just had Easter brunch there and it was absolutely terrible. Apparently a reservation only gets you a sad table in the very back room which is not even part of the restaurant. You certainly don't get good service there. Upon arrival, the people at the hostess stand seemed confused and flustered. When I complained about our table the "gentleman" (perhaps a manager?) only sounded put out. The brunch buffet was bad. The food was not even warm, let alone hot, the offerings were offensive considering the per person cost. The staff didn't seem to know if they should help serve or stand there...as if they had randomly been brought in off the street. Items that you think of with cafe blue were noticeably absent from the buffet. There was no boiled shrimp or shellfish of any kind, no crab cakes, literally nothing related to their regular menu. Nothing that would be Easter Sunday brunch special. I've had better breakfast at the free Hampton Inn breakfast. The omelette bar was lacking. Precooked food not warm enough, no bacon or sausage to add...but there was chicken for your omelette? Maybe they had left over chicken from Saturday they didn't want to waste? Our waiter overcharged us for # of buffets, glad we noticed before paying. This was so disappointing and so bad I wish I could get my $ back or that we would've just left the minute we bit into our cold eggs benedict. Massive, massive fail. I'm writing this review in hopes they turn it around. Have been going here about oncer a month - food is great quality, but about $150 for my wife and I (appetizers, entrees, bottle of wine) which usually comes with a minimum level of expected service. Service is slipping and I hope management takes notice and turns this around. Have seen a few other reviews where people have complained. Need much better coordination between waitstaff and the kitchen which I believe is the fault of the waitstaff. Last time here we ordered a bottle of wine... which then arrived after we had eaten all our appetizers and entrees... probably the worst service experience at a restaurant I've had in the last 10 years... nothing comp'd and heard the waitress warning the host that we'd complain - I mean you can't really blame us after dropping $150 and not getting drinks (and still paid a lot without drinks!)... lots of congregating/socializing by the waitstaff vs. serving.... We'll go back in about 6 months. Really hope they turn this around since the food has always been excellent. read more

We love Cafe Blue and have been coming here for over 10 years. The food is solid and most of the time the customer service is impeccable. Tonight was not so much on the service side. Our server seemed to be phoning it in. It took 15 minutes to get anyone to wait on us and our drinks took longer to get to us than our apps or entrees. We would have spent more money on drinks but the service was so bad we didn't even get water refills let alone an opportunity to order more cocktails. We hope this is just a hiccup and our next visit will be better. read more

Breakfast the way it should be! Both my wife and I had the Blue Plate Breakfast, and we were not disappointed. The portion sizes were exceptional, the bacon was crispy, the hashbrowns were toasty, the eggs were cooked well, and the butter wasn't frozen solid. Reservations were not honored today, Mother's Day. We waited 35 minutes to get seated (despite seeing patio open and 3 tables inside open within feet from the front door. Manager said they were cleaning up from brunch crowd. So several 3pm parties waited 30+ minutes. Question to restaurant: Did you know about the brunch AND the afternoon reservations the day before? The saddest brunch I've had in awhile. I'm not sure my mimosa had any champagne in it. It was at least 90% juice. I ordered the lobster Benedict. The lobster was tough and dry. There was the tiniest dollop of hollandaise over the cold eggs and hard English muffin. My husband ordered the biscuit and gravy Benedict and the sausage was still frozen. The best part of the meal was his beer and the nearly burned hash browns. We received a $105 tab.........which we paid and tipped well. The service was alright. We asked to speak to management to mention the food woes, and after waiting 20 mins, just packed up and left. Not a soul stopped us. read more

This is one of my favorite local restaurants. I've been joyfully eating here since they opened a hop skip and jump from my home. Too convenient. I've since moved out of state but every time I come back home, I never leave without getting an order of mussels and the blue plate. The Thai sauce and the garlic bread are to die for. A must have! The fries on the blue plate are so delicious down to the last little crisp! This is truly my happy place and I'm not the same if I don't get my mussels. Nice ambience. Staff is always friendly. Reasonably priced. My last time wasn't perfect but I will chalk it up to post pandemic restaurant blues, but I'm not giving up on them bc of my last meal. Went here for Saturday brunch early afternoon with a lady friend based on her positive past experiences. Our server was Ian, and we found him to be most helpful and prompt. While mulling over the brunching options, he started us with water and a bottle of La Crema Pinot Gris. Their menu is one of those that you could literally blindfold yourself and pick a winner. What we chose to do is to start with an appetizer of coconut shrimp and share a lunch order of the lump crab cakes. The waiter told us that brunch comes with a complimentary order of two beignets, which were very much welcomed, even in midsummer Texas. The beignets were perfectly fried, but not quite as airy inside as they should be. I'd say "doughy" to describe the more bread-like consistency, but don't take that to mean they were underfried. Perfectly tasty, but not quite Cafe du Monde standards. The coconut shrimp were a bit overcooked, and showed it by being a tad on the rubbery side. But oh the lump crab cakes. They were splendid. I could not restrain myself from the tasty rice pilaf. And the zesty coleslaw was exactly on the mark as was the Cajun remoulade. Thanks, Cafe Blue for a most enjoyable brunch dining experience. This was our first time trying Cafe Blue. I was very impressed with everything. The atmosphere reminded me of Monterey Bay (without the views) The oysters were very fresh and they had really nice selections...the Thai curry mussels were great...the clam chowder was full on flavorful and they had a great drink selection. Mind you the location makes for more than just a one stop spot to eat. This location has all you need to spend a few hours around the Galleria as a whole. That said, we will be visiting regularly, especially throughout the summer months. read more

We came here for my birthday dinner. Maddie was our excellent server. We started out with two Mexican 75's which were made to perfection. We then had the ceviche and crab cakes! Both were great but the Ceviche was easily the best I've had in Texas! Our entree were also cooked great. The steak was a little over cooked and as a result they gave me a 1/2 half off the steak. RUDE MANAGER & STUPID POLICY. I have been coming here since it opened in the Galleria and have spent thousands of dollars over the years, but no more. The new manager came out and lied to me, telling me there was a law against my finishing my energy drink, which I had been drinking when I arrived. When I replied that there is no such law, he admitted he had been lying and that they just don't like it, despite the fact that we had ordered drinks there as well. Absolutely no reason for this new rule, which never existed or wasn't enforced for the last decade. After finishing me he harassed another table for having a bottles water. Great way to treat paying customers. Luckily The League opened up across from them and they don't have such a stupid rule nor rude management. read more

Then We waited and waited and waited and waited. Finally the manager said that the kitchen had dropped one of my shrimp in my scampi on the floor so they were remaking it. We waited longer. Finally our food came. Mine was fine but my wife's was cold. Clearly it had sat while they remade mine. So we had to send back her meal. Finally they brought hers back. After a very busy week of work all we wanted was a nice dinner out. That wasn't the case this time at Cafe Blue. Honestly, I wa surprised that they didn't offer to comp part of our dinner. The ambience was very nice upscale but not pretentious. Came here for the first time for brunch on a Saturday with my mom and brother. I was delighted to not find a line--one of the perks of eating in the 'burbs vs. the trendy downtown brunch spots. We were in the mood to celebrate, and our server definitely caught on to that vibe, engaging with us in a friendly way, recommending items to share, and staying on top of keeping our drinks full (my mom loved the mimosa flight she ordered). We went with what our server recommended for sharing around the table: The Eggs Benedict Arnold (this was everyone's favorite by far), the Cap'n Crunch French Toast (this is super duper sweet and HUGE; I recommend sharing it and treating it more as a "dessert" to your regular breakfast), and the Shrimp & Grits (another HUGE portion that we couldn't finish--loved that it came with fried okra!). I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict Arnold. If I return, that will be the one I order again. Coffee was good too and my brother said he appreciated the wine selection, spotting one of his favorites in the wine vault. We were pumped to get a free order of beignets to share at the beginning of our meal (fair warning--the powdered sugar is messy, so hope you're not wearing black...). COVID-19 has been tough on a lot of restaurants. I get that. Since things have started reopening, many of them have been short-staffed due to unemployment benefits being more tantalizing than returning to work. Cafe Blue has definitely been one of the restaurants affected in such a way. Our waitress, as pleasant and professional as can be, was stretched paper-thin and we did not see her a lot. She was constantly waiting on whoever was running the show at the bar for our drinks and apologized several times. Then there's the food itself. It was bad. Like really bad. Their version of a Cuban Sandwich consisted of the kind of cheap lunch meat and some kind of sauce on stale bread. Thankfully, the waitress agreed with us and did not charge us for it. While a lot of these issues can be credited to short staff, I can't help but think that there are some managerial issues going on here, judging by the other reviews. read more
