I wish I took a picture of the sad lunch special - it was 12 dollars and all I got was two teaspoonfuls of noodles for the price. I was so taken aback, I asked the server/manager if it is normal for it to be so small. She said that the kitchen can prepare extra noodles. Mind you, there were less than four tables seated and the food had already taken half an hour to come out, then I had to wait another 15 minutes for "extra noodles." Since we wasted our lunch hour waiting, I had to take my food to go - she said that the extra noodles can be packed to go. I go back to my office to eat it because it was already getting late and I was still hungry; open the pint annnd it was basically just two extra teaspoonfuls with a ton of sauce. I am still hungry for 12 dollars and I do not eat a lot. It was really sad and really pathetic. What a complete waste of my time and money. I ate here once, six years ago, it wasn't bad, it wasn't good (but I do not remember the portion to be so tiny) so I never came back until today, just on a whim, decided to try it again - needless to say, I will not be back. read more

OK. First off, if you think Lemongrass = Thai food, you know **nothing** about Thai food. Anyone from Thailand would be insulted by the association. I ate here tonight on the spur of the moment. I had passed by it before and the menu looked decent enough price/dish-wise and the atmosphere was nice but not trendy. I ordered the tom yum goong (which they just called "Lemongrass Soup"--not necessarily the best sign) and the "sauteed" Chicken Basil entree--my litmus test for trying a new Thai restaurant. Spice levels at a Thai place are often treacherous. I like it when there are 5 levels--here they only have 3, so I played it safe at "medium." I like to be able to feel the sweat on my forehead without having to gasp for air or dump sugar in my water. Unlike some places where the soup comes out at the same temperature as Solar plasma, it was just right. Unfortunately, it was not nearly spicy enough for my taste, but the shrimp were good quality and the flavors were nice. On the entree, I ended up having to ask for hot chilies, as it was quite mild to me. The quantity for the money was good and the flavors were good but not bold enough. They need to learn how to pump up the flavor. I'd go back, but not before trying some of the other Thai places in the neighborhood (just moved to Boerum Hill). read more

I agree with Cheeseball. People who frequent yelp and post their reviews are quite picky. I received great and personable customer service. It was low key and intimate. The decor is kinda funky, and retro. But overall experience was good. I had chicken and shrimp dumplings for appetizers along with coconut shrimp. I'd say the quality is about the same as Lemongrass Grill nearby, but the prices are a little better while the selection isn't as impressive. We've been slowly going through a checklist of Thai restaurants near our office. I went here with coworkers on a Friday. Lunch prices are pretty solid--$7 for an entree and a choice of soup, salad, or wonton (or something else? It was one of three things). Place was dead and it still took well over half an hour to get our food. I get the pad gra-prow, the standard Thai basil and chili dish. It was bland. Like...really bland. Flavors weren't there, chicken was overcooked, and there was hardly any basil! We were also given chopsticks, which I found odd...considering the Thai use forks (or at least they do to my knowledge). In short: long wait, mediocre food, decent prices. I'll stick to Lemongrass--it's basic US thai, but it's much better quality. read more

I love this place, especially for there lunch special!! For $8 you get a box filled with appetizers, salad, rice and a decent sized entree. The restaurant is never very crowded so the service is good. Also the quality of the food is very good. I would definitely recommend. read more

I just don't get the concept.. east meets west, but instead of fusion, it's just a hodgepodge of thai and italian dishes, which just don't go together. The pad thai was a bit watery, and our curry doesn't taste thai. Though the decor is trendy, the food was disappointing. read more

This was my first time eating at Cafe Chili and it was a most enjoyable experience. The food and service was excellent. This should be your first stop to experience authentic Thai food. The dining experience will be one you are sure to remember. I would recommend Cafe Chili as your only stop to really get the opportunity to eat delicious Thai cuisine. I went there a few nights ago. It was Sunday around 9PM. There was not one single customer eating there. A few doors down, there was many packed places. I should not have stayed to eat. We had a bad experience a year ago, when ordering take-out through Seamless - just not very good food at all. Anyway, I order the Fried Calimari appetizer that was devoid of flavor - like it had been sitting in the middle of nowhere for a week. Unreal. Entree: I would call it 100% like an attempt by a restaurant to impersonate hospital food at its worst. DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU REALLY REALLY want very tasteless and flavorless food. Chili is a misnomer because the dishes here lack heat for sure. This place serves up OK Thai food, but overall it is pretty bland. You can always get a seat in here, as every visit I have seen only one or two other tables taken. There seems to be a reason for this - the food is just not that good. However, if it is a choice between this place and Song or Joya, I would come here any day as their dishes are less greasy, and you could actually hear the people at your table. read more

There are at least eight Thai restaurants in a four block radius in Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens, and I've tried most of them. So I wasn't in a rush to try one of the newest -- Cafe Chili. Joya is still the king of Court Street, but after they put pork in our vegetarian appetizer we decided to boycott. Lemongrass is hit and miss. Em Thai on Smith is decent but too far. But once we tried Cafe Chili, it's been a reliable addition to our takeout routine. I love the Pan Seared Thai Vegetable Pancake -- it smells kinda weird but it's delicious. read more

This is the best Thai i had in years. I am always on the look for a good thai place, this is my go-to-spot for lunch, as i work in teh area. My husband likes it as well. He works in manhattan and comes by sometimes just to eat here for lunch. Their lunch box are a great value for your money thing. Its more than enough food for one person, my husband thinks its a lot of food not for me LOL... Anyways, i love the staff they are always soo friendly and sweet and their garden is very pretty and tuck away from all the noises. We love to sit out back and eat there. They also have a very nice collection of beer. I think most of the people don't visit them because they have this huge grocery store right before them that actually hides the restaurant away. Oh well, if you are in the area and craving thai go here, you will not regret it i promise, try their chilli vegetables, they are yum,... I will try to post pictures next time i am there. Overall the food was decent and the waitstaff was nice. The garden area is cute but the mosquitoes were running wild and the staff said they had no citronella candles. Vegan options are pretty good and they altered the prix fixe appetizers to suit us, although it took some convincing. read more

Cafe Chili's decor says all Ikea everything. Multi-colored satin pillows on the eating sofas, soft tea lights, even softer fake flowers, beads dangling from the ceiling and light fixtures made mostly out of paper. It's cozy and cute. I used to really like the food here but my last visit (and the one before it) wasn't so great. Coconut shrimp appetizer was over cooked and the shrimps tasted like gourmet, frozen goodies from the Trader Joe's on the corner. A crab cake appetizer was left in the grease so long that the cakes were half burned and the garlic mayo drizzle tasted like plain old Hellman's. My pad Thai with shrimp was full of shrimp, onions, scallions and other goodies but the chopped peanuts were overkill and the noodles were undercooked. Sodas are served in really tall glasses and the staff is nice. Boyfriend loved his chicken fried rice. I'll give Cafe Chili another try again but not anytime soon. read more

The restaurant is small but beautiful. Even the bathrooms are pretty. However, there was a bit of an unpleasant odor by our table when we sat down. It went away after a while, not sure if it was because we mentioned it to our waitress and they did something to fix it, or if after sitting there for a while, we just got used to the smell. Went there on a Friday at 6 only because Joya down the block was crowded, and it was very quiet here. You get a free order of spring rolls if you check in on Yelp or download their app. The spring rolls came our very hot and were delicious. I ordered the chicken pad Thai, the chicken was great, the noodles were so so, just dry and without any sauce. The prices are great, pretty cheap, and the waitresses were nice and brought out our food very quickly. Would definitely come back here, if only for the decor. read more

The salad was yummy and they gave a good amount of dressing on the side so I was happy with that. Unfortunately the Kee Mao was a bit on the dry side.
