    Cruncher with birria. Yum!
    Mandie B.

I have been a longtime fan of the Riverwreest and Bayview locations, and after recently moving to the North Shore, was excited that there was one nearby. The ambience is a little bit bizarre. It feels like it maybe used to be a fast food restaurant that was quickly changed into a new café Corazon location. If that part of the experience is super important to you, it may be worth the drive to one of the other locations. However, the food and service were absolutely delicious. I had a cruncher with birria for the protein, and I can tell I will be back for more soon. The bartender mentioned that sometimes she gets a side of the queso and pours it onto the cruncher, which is something I believe I will have to try!

Date of visit: August 9, 2024 Some friends and neighbors of ours have been raving about this place for weeks so I was very excited to try this joint out! That we had to park about three blocks away really added to the excitement--this place MUST be good if it's this busy and we have to walk a ways to find a spot to park. Turns out they were doing live music and a fair number of folks on the patio were there to support their friends/band or just to hear the music. We were seated on the patio, though thumbs up to the hostess for asking if that was okay first and advising that if it was too loud, they would definitely move us. Thankfully the music wasn't too loud or too bad, and she even came over later to check and see if all was well with the music/volume, which I really appreciated. The table service was also quite good, and is a big reason for the four star review here as I wasn't wowed by the food. The chips and salsa were not my jam; the chips did not have any flavor or seasoning to make them special and weren't served warm; I would have preferred chips I make at home, actually. The salsa was too spicy for me as well so both were a no go. My Mexican food go to is the quesadilla. We don't do ground beef at home due to my husband's blood pressure so I was excited to try that here but not unlike the chips, there was a lack of flavor as well as sour cream. Should I ever go back, I would try something else.

Nothing bad but the food was just kind of average. Nothing super memorable about our visit.

Chicken mole enchiladas, rice and refried pinto beans

The chicken mole enchiladas were so yummy! The beans were different from normal beans. Not bad though. 2 of my 3 tacos were good. I ordered the pastor, chorizo, and steak. The steak was so dry and flavorless. Didn't even finish it. The server who took our order wasn't completely versed of the menu, and we ended getting someone else the rest of the dining experience. Restaurant was bright and cheery. Patio area was huge for summer dining!

Food was excellent! Large portions. Our server was so courteous and friendly. The weather is so great we were able to eat outside. So perfect!!!!

Was looking for somewhere to go for Cinco de Mayo and thought I'd give this location a try. Since the smaller interior was at capacity, we sat outside on the patio and chose seats at the bar. Lucky for us, the weather was perfect for it. I ordered the Jalepeno Margarita to start, which was delicious with just a hint of spice. Our server was kind enough to give each of us our own basket of chips and salsa, which was dangerous considering everyone knows how quickly those go down when you're hungry and waiting for your food. The chips were crunchy, although I did wish there was a little more seasoning on them. The salsa was chunky, loaded with tomatoes and some peppers thrown in. For my main dish, I ordered the Corazon Burrito with steak, which was large in size with balanced layers of rice and beans and large pieces of fresh avocado. For dessert, we tried the Chocolate Tres Leches cake. Unlike the traditional version, this was much denser, but once you cut inside the classic makeup was evident. This is a great spot to sit outside, enjoy the weather, mingle with friends and have some classic Mexican food. Not just on Cinco de Mayo!

Salmon burrito- Sorry I couldn't take the filters/captions off ‍
    Zsavoir H.

Really good. I've never had a salmon burrito and this is the second time I've been here to try theirs. As it's Cinco de Mayo today, I felt almost obligated to come here and enjoy it again. The staff are very friendly and the overall atmosphere of the place is pleasant both inside and out. I've lived in the area most of my life and though I miss the restaurant this one replaced, I'm overjoyed that this place is here.

From what I assume, this place is family-owned. Everyone here is so sweet, from the host stand greeting, to the various servers we've had. I guess you could say the interior is "outdated" but that's what gives it its charm. Our littles always spend time coloring the kids menu while we wait for their (massive) kids meal orders to arrive. Everything I kick myself for ordering more than one for them to share -- portions are sizable! They love the Mickey Mouse pancakes and the French toast. The dishes also come with a side of sausage or bacon. As for the rest of their menu... it could rival the Cheesecake Factory in length! When I tell ya there are so many options. You can be the pickiest of eaters and still find something you want. I personally gravitate toward the omelettes, which there are at least a dozen options of. Most recently I had the Greek omelette and added chicken. Side of fruit and bread, too! I could barely get through half but it was a goodie. We'll continue to support this local spot!

This place has earned every bit of the praise in this review. 1. Atmosphere-When you walk in, there's a small waiting area where you check in with the hostess. The cafe is a comfortable size, bright (especially now with the remodel), clean, and always welcoming. I've never encountered sticky menus, messy tables, or anything that would gross me out. It's a clean environment. 2. Owner Presence & Service- One of the standout qualities is the owner. She is always present, always upbeat, and always engaging with guests. You can feel that this is a family owned and family operated establishment. She's hands on in every way. I've seen her wrapping silverware, clearing tables, seating guests, checking people out...you name it. The only reason I haven't seen her cook is because the kitchen is closed off. I wouldn't be surprised if she did help with cooking! Her warmth and energy set the tone for the whole restaurant, and it's one of the things I appreciate most. I'm sure this is one of the reasons why they are so successful. Because it is always busy. 3. Food Quality- The food is always great. Their pancakes are my personal favorite. Always fluffy and delicious. The menu covers just about every breakfast option you can think of from crêpes, waffles, pancakes, skillets, omelettes, corned beef hash, and even a Greek skillet with gyro meat. I like that they offer plenty of combo options so you don't have to order everything separately. They also have a nice selection of lunch items. My son never strays from his usual bacon cheeseburger which he says is delicious. 4.Coffee The coffee is solid. Nothing gourmet just good drip coffee. I do love that they keep flavored creamers right at the table. It's a small touch that makes waiting for your food even better. They also come around often with warm-ups, and that consistency goes a long way. To answer your question...YES!!! Yes, I will absolutely be back. For my family and me, it's a matter of "when." We love this place, and we will always continue coming to Maxfields, this specific Bayside location.

My mom remembers coming here when she was young, before she had kids, and that they used to bake their own bread and you could smell the fresh bread a block away. Jo was short for Josephine, who ran the place. She was pretty sure that Jo has since passed away. Despite Jo's passing, the cafe lives on with the same name, but seems to have fallen off from its glory days. I went with the Biscuits and gravy given the fresh bread, but then I saw the cook bring out a bag of pre-made biscuits and knew that things were not the same. That being said, the gravy was actually pretty good if the biscuit wasn't really warm or particularly memorable. My eggs were not fully cooked and as such, I really just ate the cheese. Coffee was pretty meh and only the bare bones creamers were available, plus only plain table sugar as an option to sweeten the brew. Mom really enjoyed her meat lover's omelet and will definitely have some leftovers for the next day! Service was okay, didn't love the waitress taking a phone call while refilling my coffee, and the prices were a bit high for the value. Initially I was bummed that I hadn't visited during its heyday, but then I realized that I would have been even more disappointed and overall it's better this way!
