Friday night 6:15 and very busy. About 10 minute wait for a table. Server was very prompt and pleasant. Ordered and food was served in about 10-15 minutes. The food was very good, warm and plentiful. The only disappointment was no flan for desert. Please note they have a fish fry, not on the menu, but it looked terrific. The noise level was moderate and the decor is very interesting. Not even negative 30 degree wind chills could squash my desire to enjoy a Friday fish fry. I wanted to stop at a place close to home, preferably somewhere that I hadn't had a fish fry at before, and I'd never say to no an all you can eat option. Matteo's in Germantown checked all of those boxes so I made that my choice. I went with the all you can eat cod and got rice for the side. Having a fish fry at a Mexican restaurant may sound strange to some people, but don't exclude Matteo's if you're considering your options. The cod was super flavorful, the breading was light and crispy, and I appreciate that they brought five pieces to start with for the AYCE. On top of that, the rice was very good and both the service and decor are excellent. I'll absolutely stop back and try some of their Mexican dishes. So good! Everything we ordered was hot and delicious. Our server was overwhelmed as it was a busy brunch service, but was still attentive and on top of it! Prices are a little expensive to downtown spots, but the quality is tasty. They were playing oldies on the radio, cute place will be back when we're in the area. read more

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday and had the chicken chimichangas and loved them, especially the melted poblano cheese sauce that covered them, it was excellent! The service was quick and friendly as it wasn't very busy. Will be back! read more

We stopped in on a Saturday night and were warmly greeted, promptly seated and served chips and 2 salsas. Our server Juan was friendly and very attentive. We ordered veggie fajitas and a traditional burrito. Both dishes were delicious however, I ordered charro beans instead of refried beans but only got refried which was all over my burrito. I advised Juan and he brought out the charro beans and more napkins so I could wipe off the burrito. The margarita and beer menu were very good but the wine menu was lacking. The salsas were good but the chips were very average. Definitely worth another visit because of the food and Juan. read more

Came here with family during happy hour, we ordered a few margaritas and some appetizers. The margaritas were good and they have a lot of flavors. We ordered a variety of the appetizers that were pretty tasty. The chips and salsa are alright. It was a nice family dinner especially with the happy hour deal and probably one of the better restaurants in Germantown. The server was friendly and attentive. read more

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. We've returned several times and will continue due to the great food, service, and hospitality. Last night was the first time there was a bit of an issue-my taco salad shell tasted like cleaner. Like a Mr. Clean, windex, fabuloso would be scented. I imagine it's because the deep fryer got cleaned well and perhaps just not rinsed well this one time and the salad shells were fried right after. I always order this item so it's definitely never been an issue before and we will be back soon regardless. read more

Cute place but their food needs some flavor! Mild salsa tastes like regular tomato sauce. Their rice is super bland, with zero seasoning. I couldn't even eat the beans. If your not Hispanic or White their customer service is terrible! This would be the 4th time I've had a negative experience with this Resturant and they always mess up our orders. It irritates me because I love Mexican food. My wife, daughter and I have been living in the area for a while now, this is the closest Mexican restaurant to our house. I'm from Arizona traveling here for work and I've been looking for some good authentic Mexican food . And I have to say that Mateo's Mexican Grill legitimately has some of the best Mexican food I've ever had (and my fiance is from Tijuana). The molcajete bowl is a perfect flavor combination. Ordered online hard shelled taco's and received soft. As I was eating them, found a hair which actually got wrapped around my tongue. Totally gross! I ate some of the refried bean's, and I found another hair and lost my appetite. Do I need to say anything more? Apparently, they don't care about being clean when preparing their food. Service was good but as far as authentic Mexican cuisine is far from it. Came in with my family of 4. Server served us our drinks and appetizer. (Carne Asada fries are well worth it) I order what I usually get from other Mexican restaurants which is the bistec Al la Mexicana which should have some spice to it. Came out bland no flavor or seasoning. Same for the kids meals that I ordered. Son had a a kids meal taco once again bland no flavoring no seasoning. Daughter had kids cheeseburger. All it was meat and cheese on a bun. No flavor at all Wife had the chorizo and beef tacos. It failed at being seasoned. As far as being authentic far from it. After recently moving to Germantown, finding a new Mexican restaurant was high on our priority list, above even getting gas and electric service established. Fortunately, we hit a home run on the first try with Matteo's. Food is excellent, they do a great job with steak dishes like burritos. Some places overcook and dry out the steak but it is on point at Matteo's. The use of black beans for their refried beans is a game changer, turning a side that I can normally take or leave into a must have. Margaritas are quite tasty as well. Went to Matteo's in Germantown for dinner last night. If you go for happy hour and order a margarita you need to specify the small one for $3.50 or you will get a large glass of ice, a small splash of margarita liquid and pay $13.50!! Also when you pay for your $3.50 drink with a $20 they keep the .50 change but if you pay with a $5 and they keep the $1.50. I would suggest the blended drink, much better and not as much ice and bring exact change. They also up charge 3.5% for using credit cards so bring cash if you prefer. This is posted on the door but check your receipt because the sign says they will give you a "credit" if you pay cash, after the fact. As for the food, the tacos are $1.99 a piece on Tuesdays and everything else is extra. Salsa has little taste. We all ordered tacos, 2 of our 5 orders were wrong and when 2 of us returned to our table after going to the bar to get a drink (where they kept our change) we were scolded for not ordering from our waitress!
