Didn't try any of their coffee drinks, just ordered brunch food to share with my friend. The Churro Waffle is PHENOMENAL, would order it again without a doubt! Crispy, deeply rich cinnamon goodness, not too sweet, but also would be fantastic as a dessert waffle. Chorizo Burrito - good but not great, I've had better tasting burritos. I feel like there was solid amount of chorizo, yet needed more hash brown for a more balanced burrito. The hot orange red salsa was a perfect spicy kick to add on top. Customer service was solid enough, our server was attentive with asking if we wanted small plates for sharing our dishes. Though, she never refilled our water glasses during our brunch visit. I get they were super busy for a Sunday, but still it doesn't take long to refill waters lol. Since we put our name and phone number down around noon on a Sunday, we waited almost an hour on the Yelp waitlist for a party of 2 (which despite us being quite hungry for brunch, the time flew by since we were chatting and chilling at the nearby park). FYI, their Yelp waitlist can get filled to capacity on Sundays and when it does, the restaurant will temporarily disable it. So like we had to, you will have to walk in and write your name on their Yelp waitlist instead of using the Yelp app to do this.
Caffe Olla is a wow from the moment you sit down. The breakfast hits all the right notes the sweet bread cart is a standout, and the scrambled eggs and fresh fruit were simple but perfectly done. Service was outstanding, warm and attentive without missing a beat. And the mascarpone latte? Absolute perfection rich, smooth, and worth coming back for on its own. A spot that makes a simple breakfast feel special.
Great place for a solid Mexican breakfast/brunch. I would highly recommend making reservations prior your visit; especially on a weekend since it gets pretty crowded. Yelp offers the join waitlist so you can save a spot for your visit The place is buzzing with people and waiters, pretty busy all around and not quiet. I ordered the chilaquiles divorciados which consist of the red and green chilaquiles side by side. It comes with a hefty side of refried beans topped with cheese and some rice. The dish over all is delicious and more than enough food for me. I also ordered cafe de olla which is coffee with cinnamon and sugar and to be honest, it was TOO sweet for me. I ended up asking the waiter if he could pour me some solid black coffee to go with it and he was kind enough to bring me a cup of black coffee to pour it in myself. After doing that, the cafe de olla was just right! The place is clean, including the restrooms even in such a busy place. The food comes out fast and they're attentive ensuring you are satisfied with your order. They have a cart with Mexican bread (a la dim sum). Depending on the bread you get, it will be added to your bill. We didn't have any issues finding street parking which was free.
4.8 stars for Cafe De Olla! We came here on a Saturday around 11 for a brunch/lunch. This place is popular and the wait was about 60 min so definitely take advantage of the Yelp Waitlist and check-in ahead of time to minimize your wait. Our experience was delightful. Everything tasted amazing, from the chilaquiles with the perfect spice kick and crunch factor to the creamy cafe de Olla. Servers were very friendly and vibes were great here. We will be back soon!~
January 2026 - Party of 2 on a Sunday around 1pm, 45 minutes wait. Food/Pricing - First time eating lunch here instead brunch food. The meat in the tacos were a bit dry and bland. The sauce had a nice kick and helped with the taste. Adding in the beans and rice into the tacos also made it less dry. Service/Ambiance - Service was prompt. A bit disappointed in my lunch choice but will likely be back for brunch. Parking - Plenty of street parking or public lots nearby.
Absolutely loved Cafe De Olla in Monrovia! I got there right when it opened so there was no wait. The restaurant was cozy and the staff were so nice and attentive. There were alot of breakfast selections but we settled for Steak & Eggs and the Ham & Cheese Omelette, both came with a side (hashed brown, fries or fruit), and choice of toast. Food tasted amazing. Will definitely add this to my regular go-to spot for breakfast.
Be prepared to wait for weekend brunch. I came here with two friends around noon on a Sunday, and we waited about an hour to be seated. It wasn't too bad since the restaurant is in the heart of Old Town Monrovia. You can walk around and browse the nearby shops while you wait, and the time cruises by. They'll send you a text when your table is ready. The front desk staff and waiters were friendly, and we were greeted with warm smiles from the start. I ordered the menudo and a Ferrero iced latte--both were excellent. The menudo was one of the cleanest I've had. The tripe was cut into bite-sized pieces, and the broth was clear, without any heavy residue from the spices. The latte was strong with the perfect level of sweetness. I also grabbed a vanilla concha to go for my daughter, and it was delicious. The inside had the perfect amount of fluff. I'll definitely be returning :)
Like the cafe de olla and choice of bread. Not a fan of the fried tamales however I think everything else on the plate was good so I'm sure the menu has yummy other options. Service was good as well. She had refills down. Busy restaurant. Reserve online prior to heading there for breakfast. Not a huge dining area but enough.
This was my first visit here and I came with high expectations but I left disappointed. Took my entire fam for breakfast, the two host at the front of the restaurant greeted us as soon as we walked in. They were both lovely, polite, and friendly and we were seated right away. Our waitress was not so friendly. Her table manners were cold and quite frankly she made our first experience at this popular, highly yelped restaurant not so great. After taking our drink orders, I asked for flavored creamer on the side for my cafe de olla..she responded with, "You know, this is a very sweet coffee, it already has sugar in it. Do you still want flavored creamer!?" Her tone was not pleasant. I responded with a, " Yes, please a couple flavored creamers on the side. Thank you". We were a party of five, I had the less complicated order: the Berry Waffle. Unfortunately, M y order was "overlooked". I felt bad for my family who all had their plates in-front of them and they insisted on waiting to eat until I received my order, unfortunately- they ate cold food while I had a hot waffle served 10+ minutes after them. My waffle was just okay. It had a light crunch to it. The blueberries and strawberries were fresh and that is what made the flavor on this plate. For the price, I expected more, It's a small waffle with a cup of mixed berries. The cafe de olla was good. However, it probably would have been amazing had I been able to taste it with a bit of flavored creamer, the way I, the customer, enjoys it. The quality of table service from this particular waitress was an epic fail all around. She had a bad attitude. She never even apologized for not placing my order and she didn't check in on our table periodically. Not at all what I expected. Esthetically, it's a nice restaurant in a nice location. Would I go back? Most likely not.
Great table service. It's seems like one guy does it all. I had to get his attention a couple of times but he looked pretty busy. Food was sooo good. Definitely worth coming back for. I had a vegetarian breakfast burrito for dinner. Yum! Saved 1/2 of it for the next day. My hubby also had breakfast burrito, my dad had enchiladas with molé sauce. They said they enjoyed their food also. Street parking only. Good luck with that.
Sunday brunch with the family! It was really convenient that they offered the option to join the waitlist through Yelp -- we didn't have to rush to the restaurant and were able to stroll around downtown while waiting for our table. Inside, it was moderately loud, and the bench cushions were worn out, which made sitting a bit uncomfortable (especially since I was wearing a skirt). The service was okay overall; they took quite a while to take our order, though it did improve after we experienced an issue. I tried the pie de guayaba, tres leches, chilaquiles, refried beans, tortillas, and torta de pierna. The desserts were delicious! The pie was perfectly balanced -- just the right amount of tartness, sweetness, and a great crust. My favorite dish was probably the chilaquiles; they were perfectly crispy, and all three salsas were delicious! I just wish they had a bit more garnish (like cheese and onions). The torta de pierna was okay -- the meat itself was flavorful, but the rest of the toppings were pretty average. Unfortunately, my sister also ordered a torta de pierna and found a small piece of glass in her sandwich. The staff handled it professionally, they comped the torta and offered a free dessert, but it was still a serious safety concern and made us a bit uneasy about the kitchen's quality control.
Donuts and coffee... oh no, prepare to have your life changed. You haven't lived until you have had pan Dulce and cafe de olla. Now that fall is here, it's the perfect reason to come here and see for yourself why this place is so popular. The staff is friendly and I will say that this place gets packed quickly. Add yourself to the waitlist on Yelp, trust me as the wait can sometimes get up to two hours. Definitely not a problem as there's plenty of shops nearby to pass the time. If you don't feel like waiting they have a to go counter with coffees, pastries, and I believe menu items as well. Now what to order. Definitely start with a cafe de olla and a pan dulce. There is also a cart that comes by with all the options. I personally prefer the concha's as they are a timeless classic option. While I have heard rave reviews about the chilaquiles, I personally am a breakfast burrito kinda gal. Many reviews will say the breakfast burrito can taste bland. If you order it the way it comes then yes, but the trick is to add beans (yes it's an additional charge). Trust me on this. It will take the breakfast burrito to a whole other level of flavor. For reference I have tried the all in one breakfast burrito. Definitely prefer it with beans than without. By this point you should find yourself stuffed, but if you manage to have some room might I suggest some delicious desserts. As you are reading this you may find yourself having the will power to say no to dessert. Until the dessert cart comes by and everything looks delicious and irresistible. You may give in to temptation at this point or go about your life regretting not getting dessert and wondering what you are missing out. Luckily, there's always next time and an excuse to come back again! Definitely will be back soon. Until next time!
I wish I could have taken more photos, but it's such a cute place. They have pan dulce cart. So Cool and such a great idea. They have a variety of displayed desserts. The food is delicious. I have to say the machaca wasn't my favorite. It was so minced that the texture wasn't appetizing TO ME, but overall the rest was absolutely was delicious. The green chilaquiles were perfect and the red ones were spicy but so much flavor. I'm definitely coming back and trying more items. We got great and prompt service. When we come here, wife & I like to try a new dish. She had pozole & I had Del ranchero plate, which came with slices of beef in a tomatillo style sauce which was delicious and not spicy. I love spicy. This plate is good if if can't eat too spicy. Good luck! Not to long ago we visited Madres brunch and food was good but expensive for the portion they served. read more

The food here is SO tasty, every bite is great. Both sauces for the chilaquiles are somehow unique and authentic at the same time. The red sauce has a chipotle smokiness that's truly delicious, the green sauce is creamy and flavorful. We loved the pan dulce cart that you can pick from. We also enjoyed the cafe de olla and appreciated that it wasn't ridiculously sweet like other places make it, it was just the right level of sweetness to enjoy with a delicious concha friendly service. located in a very cute area too, you can walk those calories off with the cute stores around! read more

A solid brunch joint in Old Town Monrovia that serves classic American and Mexican dishes. I came with 3 others on a Saturday morning around 10:30 - and the wait was about an hour. Luckily we joined the Yelp waitlist beforehand, but we still ended up waiting about 30 minutes. I ordered the Special omelette - which was a large omelette stuffed with sausage with a side of potatoes, avocado, and 2 slices of sourdough toast. The portion size was good enough for 2 meals for me but I don't know why I chose this because I don't like sausage lol! My friends ordered the chicken pesto sandwich, veggie burrito, and casa omelette. We also shared a churro waffle. Everything was good, solid meal- service was pretty fast and the waiter checked in frequently. Parking is street parking - which there is plenty during the weekend in the smaller adjacent streets. So glad Cafe de Olla opened up in Monrovia! Every time we drove by the Burbank location it was always packed. We finally don't have to drive far to try its food and coffee. We came on a weekday at around 6:30pm for dinner. There was only one other table of diners when we were there. Seems odd since it looked crowded when we drove by during the day. We asked the staff, they say they are usually packed for breakfast/lunch time but not so busy for dinner time. We proceeded to order the food. When asked about the different enchiladas sauce, the nice waitress said they are all good, just one is red and one is green sauce. But she personally can't take the spice so she has not tried any of the sauces. Hmm. But she did say poblano is the more popular one. So we picked the poblano enchiladas for one entree. I'm always interested in the mole so asked if we can have a sample of the sauce. She said no because they come in batches with the entree so she is not able to just get a small sample for us. That sounds very odd. But whatever. I ended up getting the sope special. The poblano enchiladas was decent. The sauce and the beans were good. The dish overall was decent. I picked 2 shredded beef and 1 chicken for my 3 sope. It's served with beef stock like tacos, no salsa. It's very mild like soup. The ingredients seem fresh and put together nicely. But something is lacking and not a satisfying meal. We picked the tres leches cake for dessert. We enjoyed the cake. Overall the food was a little disappointing. This is the best coffee I've ever had hands down. The coffee tasted so good. Hints of cinnamon, sweetness, and coffee. Most iced coffees I've had tend to taste watered down but not this one! My fiancé wanted to know what cajeta was so we got an empanada. I prematurely warned her that it might not be the best and that homemade is better but man I should've waited until after trying this one because this one was pretty good. Not sure if it's because we came at lunch/dinner time however this place we not as great as expected. First off we were expecting the free pan dulce as advertised on social media through many creators however we never got any. My partner said maybe they would give it to us at the end however they never did, and we did see the full display of bread in this see thru bin as we walked in of pan dulce so i figured it was true that they give you some, however obviously not. The food was okay. I got a sope which was an item that didn't include rice and beans so i expected a good amount of beans in the sope but there wasn't. The chicken/beef on top was a pretty good proportion but that was only good part of the sope. There was these little cucumbers which was different for sure. And the sauce that came with the beef, pretty much saved the sope from being just okay. And the burrito was pretty good, it was from the breakfast menu, however very salty. The cafe de olla, we got iced. It was very watery so it wasn't good due to that. But the mazapán frappe I got was good since it tasted just like mazapán but i expected a little more coffee tasting but everyone makes a frappe differently. The service was okay. The place was clean looking and nothing crazy. Overall experience was pretty mid compared to all the hype. Probably won't come back especially paying $50+ dollars for what was pictured, only to possibly try breakfast since that's probably what they are known for. read more

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Price: $$ ($13-$18) Everything here was excellent! I cannot believe I just found out about this restaurant. I came here for brunch on Tuesday and thankfully there was no line. The service was great! The server are really helpful and explained a couple of dishes and help me decide. I ordered the chorizo huevos and this is the best chorizo huevos I've had so far! It was perfectly seasoned every bite and the rice is flavorful. Their coffee is a MUST! Either the Iced Latte or the Cappuccino, nothing can go wrong! I definitely will be back soon and will bring my friends too because they need to know! read more

I've been coming here for a few years and the consistency and quality of food remains outstanding. Stopped by yesterday and even though the wait was longer than usual once we were seated we were immediately waited on. Ruben was fast, professional and courteous. I enjoyed the remarkable Cafecito de Olla and some Chilaquiles Poblanos. Restaurant was packed with other patrons enjoying an end of the year meal. 10/10 read more

Another one of our long-time local fave spots in Old Town! Came in around 1145am for lunch on a weekday with no wait - but right after we sat down, the place completely filled up! With good reason - their food is fantastic! I've loved everything I've ever tried here over the years and this visit was no different. My husband always orders his go-to which is their Mole plate - comes with rice, beans, and choice of tortilla. He opted for the corn tortillas this time bc they're made fresh in house here and they were SO GOOD!! He loves their mole and orders it every time. I'm a more adventurous eater and like to try something different every time lol. This visit I tried the Poblano soup and the Sourdough Chicken Pesto sandwich. Oh my - that soup was AWESOME!! It's a creamy soup made from roasted poblanos and cheese - and it comes with tortilla strips, toast and more cheese to put on top - takes it to the next level. The flavor of this soup was just lovely. Not spicy at all either so don't let it scare you off. Highly recommend! The chicken pesto sandwich comes with fries and all of it was fabulous! They have great fries and the pesto is light and fresh with a decent piece of chicken - soft and delicious. I loved it. Their desserts are amazing - as well as their signature, in-house coffee of the same name - the Cafe de Olla - it's brewed with a mysterious concoction of warm spices - it's like Christmas in a cup I swear! It's so good! They also have this "bread cart" that comes around and it's full of rolls, sweet breads, and pastries. I wanted to order the Crema de Elote soup and the Cafe de Olla latte but they were all out of both already by 1130am on a Monday so it's probably better to come early - I know they tend to stay busy. They're located in adorable Old Town Monrovia so it's great food in a wonderful location! Highly recommend a visit and a nice walk around Old Town afterwards- can't go wrong here! read more

What a gem of a restaurant. Stopped by for a breakfast and was sat right away. I can imagine this place gets quite busy on weekends. I have to go for chilaquiles every time, it's just my favorite breakfast food. I think between the two I liked the poblano flavor the most. I had a delicious concha and a tasty coffee to go with. Everything was great. A very relaxing spot in beautiful Monrovia. Can't wait to go back. read more

My friend had introduced me to this place and of course I needed to bring my family. Because the food was so good I just couldn't keep it a secret. We were promptly seated without a wait, the server was very attentive and I loved that they had someone pushing a cart around with pan dulce. It's in the middle of a beautiful city of old town Monrovia. Surrounded by historic building and quaint shops surrounding it. Will definitely come back and introduce more people to this lovely place. Oh when I came with my friend I had the chilaquiles omelet and ordered one to go for my hubby to try. So far everything that has been tried on the menu was very delicious. I totally recommend this place for anyone who loves food authentic Mexican food. read more
