Such a great experience. Clearly a popular spot because there was a non-stop line. Little tip: Use YELP to check in in advance saved us time. The calle de olla was so good. Its already slightly sweet so no real need to add any sugar. You can taste the cinnamon. Food was served quickly enough. Our server Ruben checked on us several times. The food was delicious. Love the poblano chilaquiles and my favorite thing is the pan dulce cart. Cafe de olla is on point, love the endless refills.

Prices are ridiculous. They have a kid pancake meal that has a topping of banana and Nutella. We got a kids French toast meal and asked for the same topping as the pancake. The price for each was under $12. But because we asked for the topping we were charge 2.50 for Nutella and $4.50 for strawberries. This to me is pretty ridiculous. What is the difference of adding it on pancakes vs on slice of French toast. Come on....i would accept a small up charge of $3 but $7. Such a damn scam. Do better. This does not make sense. You can add a topping to pancakes but then the don't you dare add it to the French toast they'll cost you an extra $7. Will not be back here. Food as also gone down hill. read more

Always love coming with my family! Worth the drive I believe you're able to join the wait on yelp if there's a line so I recommend checking before coming! Nicest staff! I've came on different days and times and longest I've waited was 40 mins so not bad! There's several street parking. So cute inside! UPDATE: My daughter and I are now regulars here for breakfast and we love it! The Mexican breakfasts really shine here, and we love getting a Mexican hot chocolate and Cafe de Olla Latte. The pastry cart is also one of the reasons we really love this place (they are always offering new ones, and they are always good), and the staff is really great. we have been going to the original location in burbank before the monrovia location opened up, and we would drive from azusa. that alone should tell you how good the place is. we've know the owner danny for quite some time now. he is always super friendly and always talks to everyone when he has the chance. we never stop telling him how much we love the restaurant. if it's your first time or you still have yet to try it, get the cafe de olla, it's delicious. the music is always always good too. and their quote wall is iconic. read more

I had the iced coffee version and it was great. We ordered berry pancakes, chilaquiles verdes, machaca burrito, and iced coffee. Our waitress was nice and checked on us frequently. For my first visit I was super excited to see they have Gluten Free pancakes on their menu ( being that I have a gluten allergy). Unfortunately my gluten free pancakes were disappointing due to being very dense, dry and hard. The second time I got the Veggie Omelette with hash browns and substituted the toast for fruit. The omelet was fresh and flavorful. The hash browns were a little too overdone, which is rare for me to say because I like them crunchy. I hope one day they consider adding gluten free toast to the menu so that the gluten free folks do not have to substitute fruit for bread. Delicious food, but subpar service. My husband and I come from time to time on weekends. There is always a wait, which is the norm for this restaurant. Typically about an hour wait. When I walked up to the two hostess in the front, they seem bothered and just stared at me. Didn't say hello or welcome or even how can we help. Just stared. So I said- um can you add my name to the list? She begrudgingly took my name down and number, let me know it would be an hour. Didn't say anything else. My husband and I walked around, grabbed a coffee and came back at the hour mark to check on the status only to be told that they removed us off the list. Per the girl, they text and called us twenty minutes ago. I let her know I didn't receive a text, and she asked why I didn't say anything when I signed in? I was confused and she said that she told me that I would receive a text once I was added to the list and if I didn't receive a text, to come back. I told her she didn't tell me that at sign in. She proceeded to say that she tells everyone this, to which I said- obvs not? I would have come back? Again, she repeated that she tells everyone this, insinuating I was in the wrong. She went over the phone number, which she took down incorrectly, and added me to the list again. She said since our table was given away, we'd have to wait another 20 minutes. Again food is great, comes out quickly. But that front staff is not it. I'm gonna keep coming tho. read more

Really like this place! I've been here twice and can't wait to go back again. They have a variety of items on their menu and everything I've tried so far has been great! They have really healthy options but also have lots of options if you want to indulge. The only downside is that they don't serve alcohol-- which for me isn't an issue but my husband wanted a Michelada with breakfast and was told they didn't serve alcohol. My husband and I have always gone to the coffee shop next door for our caffeine fix and have been in close proximity to Cafe de Olla many times. On this particular day, we decided that we were gonna go to Cafe de Olla to give their coffee a try and to grab some food as well. The food & service were fantastic! We were seated by a nice gentleman who wanted to make sure we were okay with our table. The tables are quite close to one another so you can definitely hear your neighbors' conversation without really trying. Our neighbors were also particularly loud but it was interesting :D Our waitress was so sweet and funny! Now for the food- we ordered an iced cafe de Olla for me, horchata latte for my husband, all-in-one burrito, and banana pecan French toast. I really enjoyed my iced cafe de Olla. At first I wasn't sure if it was going to be black/plain because that's how it was in the past when I've had it (hot), but Yelp photos showed that it had some sort of milk/creamer component so I took a chance. It was delicious! I had a sip of the horchata latte and preferred my cafe de Olla. My husband rates the horchata latte a 3 out of 5. The all in one burrito was SO good, I even said that it was the best burrito in town! My husband rates it a 5 out of 5. The French toast was also nice. It had a dollop of whipped butter on top. The dish was sweet, of course, but not overly sweet. My husband rates it a 3.5-4 out of 5. He adds that if you are craving French toast, you would be happy with this plate. Who knew Monrovia was hiding such an amazing brunch spot? De Olla is tucked away on a street so calm and serene that you'll definitely miss it if you're not looking close enough. I really enjoyed everything about this cafe, from the carts of bread, to the service, and even the plain hot coffee. I got the El Paisano omelet with the has browns and sourdough toast. The sauces that the omelet was covered in were very delicious. My hash brown wasn't really crispy so make sure you ask for them "well done". The cafe gets PACKED closer to lunch time so make sure you either come early or make plans to wait. I got there around 8:30am and had to wait about 15 minutes. Despite the long wait times, the service is excellent. All the waiters are extremely friendly and are always looking to refill your water or coffee. read more

This was my second time going to cafe de olla, the first time was at night like right before closing, the staff there were pleasant, super friendly and attentive. My second time yesterday to which it was a horrible experience and I'm the type of person to if you treat me bad you won't see me again. First the place was packed and we were the 16th in place for a table. We awaited over an hour for a table just to scolded by the seating hostess, her name Yadira. I received Text on my phone, went up to the hostess( Yadira) made me feel like I was a bother to her and she was rude. I truly didn't even want to sit down to eat anymore but since I waited over and hour for the table, we stayed. In a place such as public, you're serving the people coming into a business, a restaurant, should be welcoming and friendly to the customers. To which that was not my experience and to be honest the food I ordered was not the best ( chilaquiles) I've had better and the treatment was better, paying the same price for the same place. I will not be returning ever again. The wait and feeling like you're bothering an employee whose job is that to be welcoming and friendly. Not worth it at all. This woman( Yadira ) should work the kitchen away from greeting folks out. Came here again to brunch with a long time friend who I haven't seen in a while. I had to get the Cafe de Olla again (I have been craving it for sooo long), and we shared the Banatella French toast and Omelete de la Casa (chilaquiles in an omelette). So many textures and flavors were in the omelette, and I love the combo of Nutella and bananas on the french toast. Sooo good! There was also a pastry cart with two levels of pastries for $1.95 each, and we decided to order some to bring home before they ran out (good thing we did because by the time we left, most of the pastries were gone). Our server was awesome and our entrees were amazing. The only thing I was disappointed with were the pastries I got from the cart. I know I don't like pan dulce (ie concha) so I didn't get any of those, so I got a bunch of the flaky pastries and other things. I picked up 7 different items and I only liked 2 of the 7 (the cookies & crème muffin and cake with guava topping). Unlike French pastries that are flaky and buttery, these are flaky and dry. They were stiff and hard, really hard to chew, and they were breaking apart anytime I tried to take a bite or break off a piece to try. Not sure if I was consuming them incorrectly - am I supposed to dip them in coffee to reduce the dryness? In any case, I am personally not a fan of these pastries and would stick with the cakes and other desserts from the refrigerated case up front - those are amazing! read more

Amazing food and service. I got the del Norte combo that had chilaquiles and carne asada fajitas and an iced cafe De olla. We also got an order of mazapan pancakes for the table.
