Can you say YUM! Staying with friends and they ordered BBQ from BEAST I enjoyed the food very much…read more My first time ever trying pork steak (ever hearing it was a thing) it just might be my favorite bbq cut now $19.99. It was a thick cut very tender and full of flavor. We also enjoyed their brisket which had a nice char and was tender and full of smoke flavor. I would def dine there again.

Even though they were still getting ready, someone immediately greeted me and offered me a menu so I could decide what I wanted while I waited. I thought that was a very thoughtful gesture and appreciated the excellent customer service. Once they opened, I received my food very quickly. At first I was excited because I needed to get back to work and had a fairly long drive ahead of me. I had skipped breakfast that morning, so I was very hungry. Before leaving, I took a bite of the snoot and immediately noticed that it wasn't even warm. It was covered in sauce, which initially disguised the fact that it was cold. As I drove, I started eating the Brussels sprouts since they were easy to eat with one hand. Unfortunately, they were also completely cold, not even slightly warm. As I reached the bottom of the Brussels sprouts container, I felt something hard and extra chewy in my mouth. I pulled it out and It turned out to be a piece of plastic. I have no idea how it ended up in my food, but I took a picture of it and have included it with this review. When I went back to the snoot, I realized that most of the pieces were still covered in very hard whiskers. My understanding is that those whiskers are supposed to be removed during preparation. At that point, I couldn't help but feel like I had been served food that had been sitting from the previous day. Because my order was to go, it felt like there was very little attention paid to whether the food was fresh, hot, or even properly prepared. The entire experience was disappointing on several levels. I really couldn't afford to eat out that day, but I wanted to try a restaurant that was highly recommended while I was working in the area. I expected that food served right after opening would be fresh, hot, and delicious. Instead, it was cold, poorly prepared, and contained a foreign object. The piece of plastic was the most concerning part of the experience. Thankfully, I always chew my food carefully. Had I swallowed it or choked while eating during my drive back to work, it could have resulted in a very serious accident. Based on my experience, I would recommend eating your meal inside the restaurant if you decide to give this place a try. If there's an issue with the temperature or quality of your food, you'll have the opportunity to bring it to the staff's attention immediately. Unfortunately, taking my meal to go meant I didn't discover the problems until I was already on the road, and by then there was nothing that could be done.

On this occasion I ordered the half chicken platter (which was sold out on my first visit). The service was good on my first visit and even better the second time. The guy behind the counter's friendliness was almost contagious he went through describing the menu with patience and a smile. I enjoyed my food again the second time. I do not have any complaints it was a solid bbq plate I will say I am not the biggest fan of banana pudding, but I enjoyed it here.

However,…read moreit could be favorably compared to a local chain, Sugarfire, that does get much recognition for its meat, variety and well done menu. The holy trinity of local BBQ is brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. Edley's has another local favorite -- pork steaks. It also has smoked turkey, chicken, and ham. I decided to try the chicken sandwich because poultry is more challenging for many wanna be pit masters. It had a distinctive smoke ring and included both white and dark meats for flavor. Served Southern style, it included a dollop of vinegar slaw and dill pickles. The lunch special was a good value and included a side and soft drink. Brisket tacos satisfied a companion.

It's counter service, and you get to see all of the meats and sides while ordering, which makes it tough to decide what to get! I went with the Brisket Dip Sandwich and a side of banana pudding, and both were fantastic. The brisket was tender, the sandwich was packed with flavor, and the au jus really brought everything together. It was great on its own, but every table also has a selection of BBQ sauces to try. The Coffee BBQ sauce was the most interesting one, but it was fun sampling all of them to see which I liked best. If you're in St. Louis and craving BBQ, Sugarfire is definitely worth checking out!

Anything that tastes a little bit more time to prepare they will bring out to you on the floor. Keeps things flowing very well. I got the four bones (baby backs), broccoli salad (premium side, one dollar up charge), and coleslaw. I also grabbed a piece of sweet cornbread with honey butter, and fried green tomatoes with a lemon aïoli. The bones were not rendered as much as I would've liked, the fat layers were still too thick. But the flavor was good. And every table has six different sauces and you can have as much sauce as you want. I tried them all, and my personal favorites were the Carolina mustard, and the Texas hot sauce. The white barbecue was also very interesting. But they're all good. Fried green tomatoes were terrific! Broccoli salad and the coleslaw were pretty tasteless. As was the cornbread. Really wouldn't describe that as sweet cornbread. It seemed a mostly just wheat flour cornbread. The honey butter on its own was really the best side. I'm not unhappy that I came here, but would I seek it out again or try something else in the area? I would try something else in the area. And for that reason I am leaning toward 3 starts. Although the staff is terrific and really hustles here, and that is why I have to bump this up to four stars.
