Okay so we've ordered here many times and I keep forgetting to write a review because they are so nice and friendly. And the food is so so good! We ordered the chicken pad Thai. Spice level 3. It gives it a kick without burning off your tastebuds! If you like spicer, then bump up your levels! We also ordered sushi rolls and they were delicious too. Their tiger rolls and deep fried California rolls were so good! They give you big portions and sauces. 5/5 definitely coming back! I have been coming to Cafe de Thai for years now. This is normally my families first choice. We came here last week on a weeknight and had a great time. I have noticed that they are constantly changing things whether it's the menu or special drink prices. My favorite roll is the crunchy roll, I personally don't like eel sauce so I ask spicy mayo on the side! (Give it a try) The restaurant has TV's where you can watch the sports games, they also have a sushi bar you can sit at and interact with the sushi chefs. We've lived down the street from this place for two years and came in for our first time today. We normally go to Go Go next to Enzo's. It's our go-to place for happy hour, even though they don't discount their Honey Hips. Cafe de Thai's happy hour is from 3-6pm Sun-Thurs. There are many other sushi places that do happy hour daily. They have $3.50 sapporos, $2.50 small sakes and a few discounts on some appetizers and rolls. We ordered the garlic edamame...which is probably the best edamame I have ever had. Wow, soooo freakin' good! I can't wait to make this at home (I think it has soy sauce mixed with the garlic). We also ordered the Tom Kah (chicken in coconut milk broth, with lemongrass & cabbage)...it was good but I should have ordered something spicy. We also got the Yakisoba Beef noodles which is our daughter's new favorite. And Pad Thai Chicken. The plates are enormous (but it's $13 worth of noodles so the size makes sense). Overall, great place with a huge menu. There are so many things that look so good, we'll definitely have to come back. read more

I ordered the honey chicken and it was soo dry and burnt, that there was no flavor. I was very dissappointed.

We visit somewhat often as it is our go to for occasions. Something has definitely changed here. Food doesn't seem as fresh, and meat is super chewy. Ordered drunken noodles, sizzling beef, thai chicken, short ribs and multiple rolls. Service was ok but dining room wasn't as clean as usual. Everything was sticky on the tables and the flies made it not appetizing. Whatever the change is, maybe new management/owners, please go back to the way it was. read more

My cousin Holly and her husband Paul were down here from Ojai and I know they like Thai so off we went. I really like this place. It's a little out of my hood but in a convenient location at the far end of a small shopping center at College and Oceanside Bl. The parking is good, and the place inside is ethnically cool, has a trendy sushi bar and nice decor. The staff is friendly, the service is pretty good (not super fast but pretty good).... but the food is great! The Thai Iced Tea was particularly thick with condensed milk but I just love that taste mixed in with the strong tea. Yum. To start we had coconut shrimp and chicken stay. OMG...the coconut shrimp is still calling my name the next day. They were the best I've ever had, truly. Usually I complain about the breading because oftentimes it tastes more like the outside of a chile relleno than the delicate panko coating it should be. Here, they are perfection! Lightly coated, very crisp, the coating just melts in your mouth before you delight in the taste of perfectly cooked shrimp. Oh, this is something to come back for, fer sure. The chicken satay was good, served very hot, and came off the stick easily. Then we had Ginger Perfect (they have funny names for their dishes), which was beef, chicken, shrimp, with a mixture of veggies in a ginger sauce. It was fabulous. The ginger was just the right amount, and the flavors were well mixed. And of course I had to have my Pad Thai, which is always my test for a Thai restaurant. Here, they serve it in a crispy shell like a tostada and while it seems like a small portion, it is actually quite a sizable portion, with about 6 large shrimp and delicious, well toasted tofu. (You can have chicken if you want.) A nice large portion of noodles and not too much sauce. Holly ordered the curry, medium spicy but it was too spicy for me! Nonetheless, the soupy part had a delicious flavor and it was filled with veggies and chicken. Paul had tuna, salmon and shrimp sushi. I like my food cooked and do not eat sushi, but he said it was very fresh and tasty, except for the shrimp one which he didn't like. The portion was large. Whew. Well, we got through most of it and they took the rest home and I'm sure it will be gone the minute they get in the door of their Ojai abode. read more

I ordered vegetarian option, but I got no mock duck or chicken, just random chunks of tofu. Food is so-so, the pad thai is just sweet, with not a lot of sour layers. Tom Yum is missing that signature seafood flavor in the broth, just tastes like tomato. Plumeria in enicinitas, Koon Thai in convoy, and Banh Thai in North Park are all very good places.... even my campus thai place Blue Pepper was better than this. read more

Amazingly good. Last time I ordered Thai spicy, and it was good, but not very spicy. This time we added a note to PLEASE make it thai spicy. Not sure it quite got to thai level, but it was way beyond ten. When you can feel it in your ears, you know it's close. Drunken noodles and beef. Wonderful. And spicy enough to still be giving when the meal was long over. If I could give more stars I would. Strongly recommend this place. read more

Great sushi with huge portions; kids meals are great and everything is reasonably priced ; service is also great and very nice

I'm allergic to shellfish and don't like sushi, but this restaurant still has many, many things I can eat! The Thai dishes are awesome, and you get to determine the degree of "heat" for the food, on-a scale from 1-10. One of my favorites is the Ginger Chicken-so much incredible, fresh ginger and veggies. My husband is the sushi and shellfish eater. His favorite is the Poke Salad which is ahi served in a martini glass with all sorts of yummy additions. He also loves the tuna poppers (he renamed them "Martian nipples"...lol! Sorry, can't find my picture! Overall, a great place, but not a full liquor license so giving it a 4/5. They have a lot of food options available on the menu. We got the tempura udon, 2x Thai tea and Pad Thai (lunch set). It was quite upsetting :( I am Thai and I am a big fan of pad Thai, but it was drowning in the sauce they put in and for the udon it tasted very odd. We have had a lot of Thai and Japanese food, but these are not authentic or close to the real things. Everything was super super salty like they dried up the whole ocean and put those salt in the stir fried sauce and the broth. We only ate 1/4 of the food we got. I said no to the to-go containers because I just can't. It wasn't good. For Thai tea, it was decent. Too sugary. The only good things were the tempura and Tom Kha. That's why I am giving it 2 stars. The service was good. The server didn't do anything wrong. They are awesome, we just didn't like the food itself. The decorations are okay-ish. It would be a lot better if it was a bit brighter. I've tried several times to give benefit of doubt. I'M DINE. If I Buy and you don't/won't give what us Due?? They Ration Ginger and Wasabi, try to Firce Inflated sale of both. I ordered 2 Cali Rolls and a Philly roll..asked for Separatelbixes. I asked for as Much Free ginger for the Cali roll...I got home there was actually 6 Pieces of ginger for a DBL order and 1 DOT LITERALLY OF WASABI??? The single roll had twice as much but Wasn't for us. I ordered fresh spring rolls No Tofu, full of tofu and 2 of the Smallest Shrimp ever. So after several 40 dollar orders of Poor Expectations I QUIT. I DON'T BEG AND BUY. HOPE YOU FARE BETTER. read more

Relatively reliable good Thai food. The curry soup is tasty and filling, the spice level is always on point and they give you a little size of chilli spice for fine-tuning. The green curry is tasty. The tofu is cooked well with noodle and curry dishes. I would pass on the thai tea and fresh rolls though. read more

I am always very skeptical of places that have multi-regional foods on the menu, it always seems like a "jack of all trades, master of none" compromise. However, the food was decent the couple of times that I have ordered from this location. I am giving it three starts because it was a Door Dash order, and sometimes food doesn't travel too well, but I will be sure to eat in-house to see what a "fresh" experience is like. Being located in Oceanside/ North County is a hard break when it comes to finding marginally respectable food, so this place is alright so far. One other note, if you don't have a frail palette and actually like spicy food, you will have to add your own spices to kick it up to actual Thai-hot levels, I ordered a "level-10" spice and just got some red pepper on the side... I could have just went to my cupboard for that, which I did to get some chili extract for the curry that comes very mild. read more

I've been here several times. While their food has always been delicious, the quality of service has hardly been consistent. However, that seems to have changed recently. On my last two visits, their new server Kevin has completely blown me away with his high quality customer service. He's friendly but professional, genuinely enjoys engaging with each customer, and proactively communicates order statuses, check ETA's and more with a smile every time. The art of customer appreciation seems to be all too often undervalued at most companies these days, so meeting a server who understands and embodies it is a refreshing experience. Hopefully Cafe de Thai realizes how beneficial Kevin has been, and will continue to be, to improving the way they're perceived by their costumers. :) read more

One of my favorite places to get takeout thai food! Their portions are HUGE (which I am personally a fan of lol) and are at a great price, too. I absolutely love their agedashi tofu and it's one of my favorite things to get there. On top of this, their california roll is good, too. Not the best I've had, but it satisfies sushi cravings! I also love their drunken noodles and their yellow curry. I do wish they would give larger amounts of rice, though. The tiny takeout boxes aren't a good size for the huge amount of curry. But just know to get more rice!! I also thoroughly enjoy their sticky rice. The food is cheap, good, and they make it quickly! Definitely recommend! read more

It was pretty good, the veggies weren't heavy from being fried. For the most part lunch overall was pretty good. Service 4/5 Our waitress was attentive and her knowledge of the menu was spot on. Not much different than any other Thai place, but this one doesn't make it as spicy as I would like it to be. Their fried rice is pretty good.
