First time at Cafe del Sol was a hit. I was there during the lunch hours. Their lunch pairings menu is not only delicious, but their portions are also very generous. In getting the lunch specials I thought I was getting less, and in reality, I wasn't. I would have liked for my fries to have been well done with a hint more salt, but they were still pretty decent. My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at Cafe del Sol. While we didn't order a ton of food we did split a pizza (Cheeseteak) which was as advertised, California Style (think Wolfgang Puck or California Kitchen) thin crust fresh vegetables, lots of shaved beef and gouda cheese as the base. It was freaking delicious. Our server (I didn't get her name) was prompt and got our drinks out right away. Now that being said, it was a Monday night and it wasn't that busy (considering most places on Walking Mall and Old Town are closed on Mondays) so I would like to come back on a busier night to see how they hold up in a crowd. Had my husband pick me up a Black and Blue salad. What little steak there was so spicy I could not eat it. Worst salad I have ever had in my life. I called the restaurant and spoke to Robin the manager. She said she was sorry I was not happy, but the menu says the meat is seasoned in a Chipotle seasoning. The reference to the chipotle is a flat out lie, or the website menu and the restaurant menu are not the same as nowhere on the website menu is the word chipotle. Instead of telling me to come in and they would refund the salad and have a happy customer, she instead would rather have a poor yelp review. It is what it is. I won't be going back. When I called the manager about this she said I ate all the chicken which was not true. I cut the chicken into bites. She was rude and told me to go ahead with my review. The order for take out service is very haphazard. Often no one is watching the window for cars. Last Thursday, 7/13, they got so backed up on the To Go orders that they turned off their phone. We called and it said they were not taking calls. Not knowing the problem, I drove down there only to be told that's what they did and that it would be a half hour wait. This is very shoddy business practices. Post a message saying you're backed up and take orders anyway, or post a message saying you are not taking orders. read more

Quarantined in for COVID-19 and we were craving some takeout. Cafe Del Sol delivered! (literally). The online ordering website was easy to navigate. Customization tools allowed us free range in our orders. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of options from salads to pastas to sandwiches. Estimated wait time for delivery was 45-50 mins, but 15 minutes after pressing "order," we had a delivery man at our door. You'd think the food would be comprised by the swift preparation, but no, it was delicious. I loved my Avocado Club. Avocado was fresh and bread was crispy. Portion was very large. There was a time I said Cafe del Sol was the best delivery in town. No more. And this isn't based on one bad delivery, but three. I don't give in easily, but this latest delivery has me reconsidering them as my number one. Used to always be perfect, but not anymore. My favorite? Tuscan salad. This is the second time in the last three deliveries they didn't include to croutons. One time I got no croutons or dressing. Dressing seems to be a big miss lately. It kills me to write this because I was faithful to cafe Del Sol during the pandemic because I didn't want them to go under. But nowadays, it's never right. :( read more

We were visiting family in Winchester and decided to try Cafe Del Sol. First off I think it's worth while to point out that it's a lot less casual than I was expecting- it's not super fancy but I guess when I see the name cafe I expect at most something like a Panera or Starbucks and this nicer than that. While not somewhere you need to dress up for, I will say that it's nice enough that it would be appropriate for a date or special occasion. Anyways, on to the food; the menu described itself as California style had a great variety of choices with eclectic pizzas and new American type dishes. We tried the crab nachos (potato chips rather than tortilla) and loved them. 2 people in our group got calzones that were great- the gyro one was especially good. I personally ordered the philly cheese steak pizza and wasn't super blown away- it was just ok. The service was acceptable but the server was a little absent at times when we needed things. Overall a unique place in Winchester where 3/4 things we ordered were excellent. read more

Went to this restaurant on Saturday, 25 Nov 2023. Seated immediately but took 15 minutes for a scraggly bearded server to say they would be with us in a minute or two. Another 5 minutes of waiting and that server went to a table that came in after us. Got up and left. Won't be going back, nor having anymore company lunches here. Nice restaurant with tasty food! The food was good, the prices were reasonable, but the vibe was just a tad off for some reason. Not sure what it was, lighting, the disco shaped pendant lights over the tables or the color scheme. I'm not sure. Maybe the menu didn't match the ambiance, I just can't place my finger on what it was but my fellow Yelper agreed and we typically form our own (usually different) opinions. Got a knock on our door at 6:15 - the food was outside our door more than 15 minutes before I was led to believe. So, I think both Cafe del sol and GrubHub are at fault, but mostly, Cafe del Sol. Hubs and I had a great lunch date at Cafe Del Sol. Hip vibe and Great food--we shared the Cabo sammy and the California salad. The Cabo was stuffed with yummy tilapia among other ingredients. The platter came with a huge mound of fries. Mmm! Hot and crispy. The salad was large and topped with grilled chicken, black beans, corn and cheese. This place was a little confusing because of the different types of cuisine they serve. Pizza? Yes. Salads? Yes. Mexican food? Yes. But most of it was pretty good. I ordered the five cheese pizza and our waitress reiterated to me the different cheese on the pizza - I said I understood but I didnt! There's a type of italian blue cheese called gorgonzola that was on it - excessively. I know its absolutely my fault for not asking for clarity on what exactly was in the cheese but it was pretty gross tasting. It didn't really fit in with the other flavors and overtook the pizza with its own flavor. I couldn't really eat around the blue cheese because it was everywhere (unlike the ricotta, which was distributed in dollops around the pie). But again, totally my fault. However, my boyfriend had fish tacos for dinner and when he went to bite into one, it literally leaked water all over his plate. The fish was clearly frozen and then cooked but it made such a mess! The mozzarella luna was very tasty. But we ordered two orders since our waitress said one order came with only 3 pieces and we were a party of five. However, after receiving our order, we saw that each order had 4 pieces. Not a big deal but we would've probably only got one order (and around $10 each!). We ended up taking the second order home. The table we were seated at was silver and you could see all of the scratches (a whole lot) all over it. It was like a hibachi grill style. My boyfriend and I were on the way back from our Thanksgiving visit to Pittsburgh and were in search of a late lunch around the time we hit Winchester. My boyfriend actually pulled out Yelp since I was driving and suggested going here since it wasn't too far out of our way. We pulled into an empty parking lot around 3:15. At first we were concerned they were closed, but after we saw the hours on the door we decided to enter and have lunch. we were the only guests in the restaurant, but then about 4 other parties came in at once around 15 minutes after we sat down. Although there was only one server (Misty), she checked on us and provided good service throughout our lunch. The menu ranges from pizza to wraps to pasta to sandwiches. They have a lunch special until 4pm daily where you can have 1/2 pannini (chicken pesto, ham and turkey club, or cuban), a cup of soup (tomato bisque, basil chicken chili, soup du jour-broccoli cheddar on our visit, or red rock bisque-$2 upcharge), and a side (field greens, homemade chips, fries-$2 up charge, sweet potato fries-$2 upcharge). We both thought this was a good deal so we went with this option. I chose the 1/2 cuban (ham, swiss, pulled pork, pickle, and mustard on ciabatta) while he went with the 1/2 chicken pesto (grilled chicken, tomato, fresh basil, provolone, with basil pesto mayo on foccacia). First, both sandwich halves were huge! I loved my cuban-the pork was so tender, the swiss was perfectly melted, and I loved the mustard which was a tad sweet, like honey mustard. The ciabatta was well-toasted and fantastic. He loved his pesto chicken pannini as well. For soup, I chose the basil chicken chili (midly spiced ground chicken, basil, and kidney beans) and he went with the red rock bisque (Red rock crab, sweet baby shrimp & baby scallops with cream & spices). My chili was presented in a visually appealing manner with a tortilla chip and shredded cheese on top. I was expecting a white base but this was red chili. The chicken was delicious and plentiful and was both ground and chopped. I appreciated it was heavier on the chicken than the beans, of which I'm not much of a fan. He enjoyed his bisque; however, I tasted it and thought it could have been slightly creamier, but the flavors were delicious. I went with the field greens which was simply field greens with cherry tomatoes and balsamic on the side. I was so full after the soup and sandwich I wasn't able to touch the greens much, but I did try the balsamic a little and it tasted homemade and had chunks of feta in it. He had the homemade chips and, despite the large portion, cleared his plate easily. They were nice and crisp, and on the thick side. I also had a 3 brothers hoptimization while there; it was nice to see a relatively local brew on tap. I was surprised to see they have a few locations, even one or two in PA although on the east side, so I would definitely go to another location if i was nearby or visit this location again if I find myself in the area in the future. The wife wanted fish tacos for supper last night, but she didn't get out of work early enough for us to make them. I did a search here and found that Cafe Del Sol does fish tacos, both crunchy and grilled. We've seen this place a number of times, but for some reason never stopped in. It was semi busy for a Monday evening, but we were seated quickly. Our server was right there for the drink order. We knew what we wanted, Baja Fish Tacos (breaded) on corn tortilla. The tacos were fantastic. The fish were tender and the breading was crispy & golden. Loved the Asian slaw but the avocado kept trying to escape. The black bean basmati rice was ok, but more bean would have been good. The only negatives were the condition of the restaurant. Our table had a large stain, the walls needed a good coat of paint (and let dry thoroughly before pushing the tables back), chips in the plates (see the picture below) and mismatched light bulbs in the recessed lighting. I know that this restaurant is a chain, but I'd heard about their Crab Nachos so I had to try them! We were seated right away, and our server was Damien. He was quite efficient and very nice. I was glad that the Crab Nachos had 2 sizes - small or large. We opted for the small as this was our little 'snack.' It came out piping out: it was composed of homemade potato chips, baked with seasoned crab, Monterrey, cheddar, and mozzarella cheeses. We had the pico de gallo and chipotle aioli on the side. The homemade chips were actually pretty good, as other eateries have them usually bland. The crab meat seemed like chunks of crab cake, but it was flavored and seasoned well! I loved the melted cheeses, and the chipotle aioli to dip it in was awesome - yummy! I would definitely try to ask if I could get more crab pieces next time, even for an extra nominal fee, but up the size to a large! First time here and it was really good! The bao sliders are amazing although a little very messy/juicy to eat. The chimichurri tacos were also great. My friend order the nachos del sol and shrimp tostada pizza and said both were yummy! We shared the chocolate cake and turtle cheesecake which were both to die for, especially the cheesecake!!! Their cocktail list looked good and reasonably priced so I'm looking forward to going back and trying a cocktail next time! I've never eaten in the restaurant, only had takeout, so I'm going with those experiences. Pros: They deliver, and there is no minimum charge. The food is basically a poor man's California Pizza Kitchen but with less pizzazz. Their appetizers are good and so are their pizza, but everything else is strictly average. Also, the portions are nice sized and you definitely feel full. The crab nachos are definitely a can't miss. They are loaded with flavor and you could definitely make a meal out of just those. When I order again, I might just get that as a meal and leave it at that. Plus, the guys who take your order are very nice and are patient. The food also arrived in good time. Cons: The broccoli tastes very raw, and their pasta dishes are not very good. I one threw away an entire pasta dish because the pasta was well overcooked and the was way too saucy. You have to watch what you eat there and definitely have yourself a water while you're eating. The food is extremely pepper-y and I ran through 1 liter of water just finishing a personal pan. But at least its very tasty. Overall it gets the 3 out of 5 based on that the pizza is great and so is the service, but I would just get the pizza and appetizers and nothing more. Plus, it strives to do more than it should and that's why some of the menu items are very hit or miss. It has a slight recommendation in my book, but as I mentioned, stick with the pizza. read more
