As you can see - I have written over 125 reviews and I am rarely this critical - but - this review is more than deserved. I wish I would have looked closer before I ordered, so I could have simply left and saved my family this experience. Before I even discuss the food, I need to share the state of the restaurant itself - TBH the pictures really don't tell the full story. First, the establishment has limited ventilation so you will undoubtedly leave smelling like a fryer. Next, I am not sure how they have not been cited for health code violations. Despite only two other couples being there, there was NOT ONE table that was cleaned. To make things worse, they were out of napkins so we were forced to clean a table with cocktail napkins from the counter. The garbage was overflowing and stacked with dishes. The room was filled with fruit flies. They were out of clean silverware and dishes and the cashier was literally forced to wash individual utensils for each order. Please see pictures for the state of the kitchen and the dish room....simply gross. Now to the meal; first, they were out of coffee and the cashier was too busy hand washing silverware to make a pot. Next to the food - I ordered a ham and cheese crepe and my wife had a quiche with fruit. My crepe was cold to the touch, to the point where the cheese was still raw (not melted). My wife's fruit salad had browned/rotten pineapple throughout her fruit salad (see pictures for both crepe and fruit). In case you think I just caught them on a bad day, please look closely at pictures of kitchen-- IMHO that filth is not "a one day" filth. I feel terrible penning this review, but I use Yelp reviews religiously for my dining decisions...this is one of the VERY few times a Yelp rating has let me down. They use Mancini's bread for the French toast, which makes it so much better. I was a little disappointed that the pasta salad tasted like it was store-bought, and the hash browns were greasy. A staple place for solid breakfast and brunch options! It gets pretty busy on the weekends but luckily there is plenty of seating. Reminds me of a fast casual diner/deli. Everything we got was delicious, hearty, and tasted very fresh. The ciabatta bread was super crisp and thick. I opted to upgrade for the pierogies, but they were just ok - nothing spectacular. Not the greatest experience, not sure if things have changed since Covid, but it was pretty empty and took almost 15 minutes to receive our order. The food was great, but for the price there are better options around. I ordered the Belgian Waffles which were pretty good, but you are definitely paying Sewickley prices. read more

Love this place! Great paninis and crepes and tasty drinks! A little bit of France right here in Sewickley! Came here with a friend of ours once and enjoyed it very much! Parking is the hardest part in Sewickley - I recommend a side street if possible or download the app, Meterfeeder, to pay for parking which is cheaper than other places. I have only been here a few times, and only thus far been on a quick lunch run when I have come, but this place is an office favorite for a good lunch. The first visit I ordered French toast and was very pleased. It was cooked to order made of Mancinis bread and tasted great, included powdered sugar and banana with some sort of caramel syrup type sauce. The NEXT time I had one of the top five BEST sandwiches of my life. I didn't even get a picture, it was so good. This place serves breakfast all day (7am-2pm) and their Alpha Omega blew me away. Its a Ciabatta served with over hard eggs, locally sourced white cheddar cheese, bacon jam and real maple syrup. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good breakfast Sammie. This time I had a roasted chicken and brie baguette (picture attatched) and it was creamy and good. I added a bit of Frank's hot sauce to it, but I would have preferred more of the homry mustard mayo that they use, I just didn't know to ask for it. 1st time here! Saw the warm apples on Yelp cover photo and took me down the rabbit hole to the Mancini s baguette French toast with bananas and caramel. Ordered both. The French toast was delicious and had a nice, not overly sweet caramel. The apples didn't really do nothing as they didn't appear to take on any of the flavor they were cooked in. Cafe des Amis is a great little eatery on a side street in Sewickley. It's more casual than Mediterra on the main drag, but its menu is long and enticing. And they offer breakfast all day! Our party had sweet crepes, a generous omelet with potatoes, and a quiche with orzo and spinach salad. The crust on the quiche was flaky, and even the orzo salad came warmed up. (My only complaint was that the salad was more orzo than spinach.) They have indoor seating (main as well as overflow) and outdoor seating. Street parking is non-existent, so better to park in the public lot and walk over while window shopping. Bathrooms down the hall. We'll have to come back to sample more of their food. read more

Sorry. Have to do it. I went to Café Des Amis with my wife and daughter for a Saturday breakfast. It was a nice little café that's tucked away on a side street in Sewickley. The menu was interesting and we were excited to try it. I have almost taken pride the last couple years in my ability to be patient when services take a little longer than they should these days. I don't judge, I appreciate the people who are working and if they are short staffed I give them the benefit of the doubt. When I saw only one person cooking while another employee was taking orders and taking care of the front of house duties, I didn't sweat it. The only reason I mention the slowness of how long it took us to get our food after ordering is because my wife did not get what she initially ordered. She ordered an Egg White Omelet and what she received was yellow, so obviously contained the yokes. Right when the waitress put the plate down my wife asked her if it was really just Egg Whites and she said yes,...though it was obviously not. The waitress then took it back to ask the cook and obviously there was a mistake made. They said they would make her a new one. So here is where the wait, and then additional wait, kind of takes it toll. The waiting to correct the mistake was bad, but the worse part was what was brought back after waiting so long. The "Egg White Omelet" as basically an gross looking pile of peppers, sausage and runny, uncooked egg whites. It was disgusting looking and basically inedible. I'm sure it isn't even safe to attempt to eat such raw egg whites. It was very, very disappointing. My wife left with no breakfast as we just decided to thrown the plate in the trash and leave, as we weren't about to wait even longer for them to attempt to make it a 3rd time. I did have high hopes for Café des Amis and was hoping to return again to try some other of their breakfast and lunch options, but if that is how they are going to serve things, we won't even bother. read more

Cafe des Amis catered my sister's bridal shower this past weekend - all our guests from the bride, to the bridal party, to our closest family members RAVED about the brunch we served. We did one of their breakfast packages and selected belgian waffles, bacon, potatoes, and two quiches. Everything tasted great, but the quiches were definitely the star of the show (and the good news is you can order a slice any day, not just as part of a catering order!). The potatoes were also perfectly seasoned - I'm a very picky potato eater, and these hit the spot - I even went back for seconds! The French Onion soup was microwaved, the Croque Monsieur was terrible and the buffalo chicken wrap was totally not what was described. During that wait time, watching them prepare food made me completely lose my appetite. Wouldn't surprise me if this ends up on Kitchen Nightmares sometime. Other half wanted to try this place. I looked at the prices and wanted to walk out. So I ordered "a" waffle, and a cherry pie. Did not receive syrup with my with my purchase just butter. I guess I should have asked for it, wasted $8 because I could not eat it dry. The cherry pie was good. This was just an honest review of my experience of your hole in the wall establishment. If you worried less about a strangers negative review, and paid more attention to the service your staff provides, you might not have to become so sensitive about reviews, and that 5 star rating might not allude you. As to your belief you are the "most" reasonable priced restaurant, I've left menus from others in the photo section clearly showing your $8 for 1 Waffle is higher priced, which backs my claim. We went for brunch today and it was wonderful. My husband had the classic breakfast- eggs over easy, sausage patty, and pancakes. It was all delicious but the piece de resistance was definitely the Alpha Omega breakfast sandwich that I got- and he had half of ;) The bacon jam was out of this world! Cafe de Amis at 2nd location in Robinson township. Chicken salad sandwich was fine. The ambiance of this new location? In Sewickley's dwindling world of restaurants I was very happy to finally make it over here. The restaurant has 2 sections one of which was closed off during my visit. Breakfast and lunch is served here all day. You go to the counter, order, and then you are given a number to take to wherever you want to sit. Their regular menu is listed above and they also have daily specials. I had the opportunity to inquire about the specials and most of the sandwiches come with one side including soup. They have a soup of the day as well as French onion soup. The staff was very friendly and helpful in helping me decide. After drooling through the cases containing those tempting desserts and quiches I finally decided to order a salmon/avocado/lettuce on a croissant and pair it with a cup of French onion soup. Most beverages are served via a machine unless you are ordering a bottle from their refrigerator which includes water or other specialty beverages. Free refills on machine beverages. I had the opportunity to inquire about gluten free and vegan options. I was told the new owner does have gluten free items on the menu and although they have vegetarian choices they are working on establishing a part vegan menu. Once I got my drink, utensils, napkins, etc. I sat down and the man who took my order brought me a huge cup of ice along with large lemon chunks so I wouldn't have to keep going up and down. I got my soup first. The French onion soup comes with 4 small bread rounds for dipping. It was good but nothing that made it exceptional. I enjoyed it however, and the cheese was so soft it had that difficult to break away texture to it which I love. When I got my salmon croissant this was truly exceptional. The croissant has that buttery taste to it and the salmon was cooked well and very good! It is quite filling to say the least. After that I decided to splurge on a dessert. Although crepes are the specialty here I decided to go for the dessert of the day. All desserts are made in house and average about $5.50 each. I ordered the special of the day which took a while to bake but believe me this was the piece de resistance! The owner told me they had already sold out of the brown butter cake so he made up a chocolate lava cake with whipped cream on each side. My photo alone doesn't do it justice. Once I cut into it the "steam" from the heated chocolate began to flow out and it was so warm and outstanding! It was dense as he had told me but not overwhelming that I couldn't finish it. I was even given a box to take home if I needed to. While you enjoy your meal table staff do come around periodically to clear up any items used so your table is fairly clean. Needless to say by the time I was finished with my lunch this place was packed with people. Cafe de Amis sits on a tiny one way street known as Division St. There is limited metered parking on that street but don't let that deter you. It is not a far walk to Beaver St which is the main street of Sewickley and there is metered parking on that street and on the other streets that lead to it. The meter costs are the same no matter where you park. This restaurant puts a lot of effort into the food they prepare and the end results are delicious. They are open daily only until 2 pm so it's a good place to grab breakfast or lunch. Division St runs diagonal to Beaver St about a block or so up and you can find metered street parking during the day since it sits near the business district of Beaver St. read more

It looks like the good breakfasts are in Sewickley! I really enjoyed the bacon, egg and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich. The French toast had a good taste to it but it was slightly drier and tougher than I would like. The red potatoes as a side option was soggy so I took it back and they replaced it with baked sliced apples and those were quite delicious and not too sweet. They have omelets, sandwiches, quiches and other options as well. I was eyejng the Croque Madame sandwich but ended with the tried and true crossiantwich. Coffee was okay. Found this on a little side street. When I asked what the Wedding Soup was, the staff at the register seemed to be stumped. Eventually found someone who could answer, it's like an Italian Wedding Soup, with the tiny meatballs, etc. Also we sat near a door that was being constantly left ajar by the staff resulting in a draft hitting our table. As the door doesn't close on it's own, might be nice for the staff to do that. I realize they are busy serving tables, etc. but I kept getting up to close it. Though the service was average, the food was outstanding. Had the Special Quiche, Pumpkin, Spinach & Feta. It was incredible. Light fluffy quiche, with great flavor, loved the pumpkin touch. The pastry was so good, flaky (I'm guessing plenty of butter in there) and not the kind of crust you find left on the plate sometimes. This crust was so good, not a crumb left on my plate. Wow. We arrive for our reservation at 1030. Order food in the line at 1040. They bring us coffee at 11. Takes another 15 minutes for the cream. Coffee carafe runs empty at 1118. Retrieve our own plastic ware at 1120. Still waiting for food at 1125. We should just leave but my hangry-ness makes me want to see just how bad this will get. Staring (hungrily) at their logo that reads: "where friends meet to eat." Maybe it is where friends meet...but to eat? Wondering if they actually have food here. Well here it is, starting to arrive at 1127. Paper plates to go with our plastic ware, nice. Shuttling in one or two plates at a time for a table of 13. 1140 and still waiting on one more meal. It finally arrives but - you guessed it - it's the wrong order! Perplexed, back to the kitchen again. 1148 and still no word. Daughter eats our son's pancake scraps, just to remain alive. Her actual meal arrives at 1154. They literally then ask what she'd like for her side; perfect deadpan delivery with all apparent sincerity. Come on man. I think you get the picture. A pretty cool spot in Sewickley. It's in an alley of sorts but there is some street parking right outside of it, albeit a little tight. The restaurant space is nice. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. They have tons of options, both sweet and savory. I had the breakfast crepe which was very good. It was huge, definitely enough for two. The other person I was with had their French toast, may possibly be the best French toast I've had in Pittsburgh. They use Mancini's baguettes which is great. Prices are very reasonable.
