I remember seeing this place a couple months back while walking along the boulevard. It's on the fame El Paseo where it's a good few blocks stretch of fancy shopping and dining. Just off the main highway 111, a cute area where it's worth checking out. It's a corner restaurant so it's nice for people watching. We had parked nearby when I first seen it and remember seeing how busy it looked so it was on the list of places to check out in Palm Desert. Mother's Day, we were out and about trying to find a place for a late brunch and ended up walking around. Of course I remembered the place and decided it's now or never since we were here. The restaurant as it's on a corner lot had a really nice open patio which what caught our eyes the first time. I honestly thought that was the only part of the restaurant but they did have some seating inside with the tufted bar booth as well as the side back patio. That part didn't seemed to be utilized. We checked in with the hostess which we did get seated pretty fast. They were cleaning up one of the tables on the patio looking out to the street. It was busy but not too crazy as it was towards the end. Found out they close at 3 in preparation for dinner. Menu wise for brunch, fairly decent. Nothing major like WoW. Started off with some cold beer which bread and butter was also brought out. Meal, we just went with a salad as it was hot out and an easy eat. The Niçoise salad with tuna. It was canned tuna so I substituted for the seared ahi for an additional fee. Also the curry chicken salad. Niçoise salad was good, green beans with diced potatoes, hard boil eggs, olives, tomatoes, onions and anchovies and the added seared ahi tuna. It was good but nothing major with the romaine lettuce. Tuna was tasty. The curry chicken salad was a scoop accompanied by slices of guava on top a portion of shredded lettuce. To me it could be more of a snack as the portion was pretty small but great for a light meal. Flavors were tasty and it was nice. Overall lunch was good. The food was good and service was nice. They were closing in 45 minutes when we arrived so we thought we were going to be rushed but it was fine. Food didn't take long to come out. The place is nice with the patio seating that open and looks out to the street. There's loads of mister along the top that helps with cooling down as well as the curtains that come down. A cute little French restaurant in the desert. Maybe dinner is needed next time. read more

A friend and I sat at the bar for drinks and a quick bite. The food was good, we had mussels and the salmon skewers. Wine list was disappointing, seemed to be mostly mid range California wines (unless there was another list that the bartender did not offer to share?) The bartender did not know how to properly serve a Ricard, though my dining partner enjoyed one of their "martini" specials. Nice crust, abundant cheese, onions wonderfully caramelized perfectly sized toast, I couldn't even finish this but to be fair, I did consume 3 pieces of that wonderful bread. Was in town for a conference and I am so glad that we chose to have dinner at Cafe Des Beaux-Arts! The decor and ambiance is quaint and cozy. Upon entry, our party of four (with a 5 and 6 year-old) were warmly greeted and promptly seated. We were given fresh, warm bread that the kiddos gladly gobbled up. We decided against the offered replenishment so as not to spoil their appetites. Every dish was so good and enjoyed by everyone in our group (yes, including the kids!) I rarely return to restaurants in areas I am visiting as I prefer to try new places, but I would definitely make an exception for Cafe Des Beaux-Arts. We also really appreciated the maitre'd accommodating our request to be moved so we could enjoy our dessert when an abundantly-perfumed group were seated next to us. My little family had the absolute best experience at this gem of a restaurant. We didn't have reservations but we had to try the best French restaurant in town so we tried our luck and we didn't have any problems getting a booth on a Sunday evening. We were greeted warmly by the host and our server showed attentiveness to our littles right away. Without being requested, the kids were given children friendly cups of water with their coloring sheets and crayons upon being seated. The menu had so many wonderful dishes and I wish I had a bigger stomach and appetite to enjoy a few dishes to myself! I opted for the seafood feuillette - a pastry filled with shrimp, scallops, and mushroom with lobster sauce and a side of saffron rice. It was savory and very filling! The seafood inside was very generous! My husband enjoyed his branzino and we also shared mussels as an appetizer! The kids shared linguine with grilled chicken. For dessert we shared a raspberry sherbet, Nutella & banana crepe, and profiteroles. Wow, everything was delicious! We were blown away with the flavors but what really made our experience a great one was the lovely staff! French cuisine at its finest. Cafe Des Beaux-Arts sounds like a cafe and art gallery. But it is a wonderful French restaurant with amazing food. We ate so well. The salad was beautifully made and the pear was perfectly ripe. The arugula (rocket) was lightly dusted with dressing, a nice touch. The duck was perfect and the evening was magnificent. The service is impressive and the ambiance was sweet and serene. Some art on the walls is for sale. This is a gem of a restaurant. An absolute gem. The beef medallions were perfectly cooked--exceptionally tender and full of flavor. You can tell real care goes into the food. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Our waiter, Juan Carlos, was outstanding--attentive without being intrusive, checking in regularly, and making sure everything was just right. He made the dining experience feel special and effortless. To top it off, the manager personally stopped by to check in and make sure everything was going well, which really shows how much they value their guests. Went for Easter Brunch, first we were surprised by a "special Menu" they informed us they called every reservation. We decided to stay. The bread was not warm after 2 attempts it was ok not great.. the food was good..I worked thru the "special menu" The check came with a nice touch a Cadbury egg. As we paid the bill the maitre d came by cleared a few things ( obviously he wanted to turn the table). He then reappeared and informed us he had another reservation for the table ! First visit. So often in the desert and never made it to Cafe Des Beaux-Arts. Ate a lot of French food in Europe where I lived till 1980. We had an onion soup, red wine, steak, Medaillons. The prices are reasonable, especially the wines. The food was the way it should be. Veggies cut and cooked Al Dente, the sauces on both steaks were tasty - that is what makes French cooking delicious. The service was quick and friendly. This is a wonderful little French bistro located on a corner of El Paseo in Palm Desert. They have very minimal indoor seating, but the outdoor seating is cooled with fans and misters. It has a huge array of food selection. The menu is absolutely gorgeous and the food taste phenomenal. I highly recommend trying this place next time you're out this way. read more

Not sure if it was because of the rain but we were immediately seated at 12:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of heat lamps so we were very comfortable and warm. Our server, Juan Carlos, greeted us quickly and got our drinks and complimentary bread basket right away. We had another server who was a very nice Hispanic gentleman refilling drinks and bread frequently. He was also fantastic. We got our food in about 10 minutes which was great. My friend's spinach quiche was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My croque madam came out perfectly. Plenty of ham and cheese between two crispy slices of bread and a hot egg on top. Really cute and affordable French restaurant on El Paseo. Service was great. You sit at your table and are greeted by what appear to be homemade sourdough rolls. YUM! We had the Moule et Frite, the Stuffed Portobello and finished with Crepes Suzette. Prices are really reasonable for French Cuisine. Because we arrived in the middle of a rare desert rainstorm, the room went from empty to PACKED. So service was a little slow, but we completely understood and the manager went out of his way to explain and reassure us. The other thing I really liked is that it is super pet-friendly. Really thought our visit here was wonderful. We aat in a booth in the bar area. Although darker, it was cooler and less noisy than out on the patio. Our service was excellent and our server was actually bartending too. I had an appletini to start with and it was delicious. Right proportion of alcohol to beverage. Our group of three started with the des beaux art salad first. It was actually the best salad I've had in years. It had hearts of palm in it which I love. I had the beef medallions. I ordered me medium rare and that's exactly what I got that also was delicious. The sauce was rich and flavorful and the meat was good quality. The other two in my group had the sanddabs and beef bourginon (spelling?). Both offered me tastes and they were delicious. Hearty portions. Mom, puppy, and I drive past this place on el paseo in Palm Desert all the time . We never stoped because of the 3 1/2 star reviews on Yelp. Well , we are running out if places to try and truthfully all the restaurants in the desert are hit and miss for a good meal anyway. Maybe Covid is to blame or maybe it's always been this way in the desert. We are fairly new to the area so I don't know . The Los Angeles area restaurants were much more consistent. Anyway, the service and atmosphere was good and we were very pleased with our crepes , fruit, and rolls for lunch. And puppy made a new friend and also loved the chicken in the crepes. It's a good price these days at around 17 dollars. We will be back for sure. read more

The service here was excellent and all the food was beautifully plated. My shrimp and scallop spinach salad was delicious. My only criticism would be to remove the spinach stems and add some sautéed red onions. I REALLY liked that they removed the shells from the shrimp tails. The profiterole was A-MAZ-ing. The pouf was eggy and didn't taste frozen. The fudge sauce made the dish. I love Le Brasserie, but their profiterole pales in comparison because the pouf is almost always frozen and the Ghirardelli chocolate sauce is thin and runny. Beaux Arts bakes the pouf shell here and it tastes like it. Very impressive! They do not bake their own bread and our first basket was dry and tasted old. The server was responsive to our complaint and brought a second basket of warm, delicious, soft, crusty warm bread immediately. I would definitely come here again. read more

I am not a huge fan of French food but the cafe has nice art, friendly and helpful servers, and they understood our dilemma about one of us getting lost and calling in to alert them. Savory crepe with shrimp was good as was the frittata with good vegetables. The chicken sandwich was nice. I really liked the atmosphere because the room appears like an outdoor cafe. I would come back again though the options for someone trying to avoid meats are limited. They lose a star for rushing you out if there are 4 bites left on your plate and the owner makes the servers swoop down like turkey vultures to grab those plates. But of course- I just figured it out- they let you feel the authentic rudeness of being in Paris! Zut alors!! Je suis stupide!! Parking at the Paseo thank goodness is relatively easy. read more

We were looking for a special place to have dinner our last evening in Palm Desert. We had our little dog with us. We drove to El Paseo to cruise the street in search of the perfect place. We found this place. It was perfect. Lovely patio, welcoming staff and a delicious dinner. There was a summer special, we ordered from that menu, but we also perused the regular menu for future reference. We each had a Caesar salad, the pink trout almandine with sides of pasta and veggies. First it was over $10 higher priced than menu online and the pastry top was hard and inedible. Seafood (shrimp & bay scallops) left much to be desired as well as minimal lobster sauce filling.
