Thank goodness for Restaurants Week. Same concept as Dine LA, and Dine OC. It gives you a chance to samples different restaurants with meal deals for lunch and dinner. Places you probably wouldn't have visit but the deals are too good to pass on. We've seen this place loads of time driving by and always wanted to try it out. It happen to be included in Restaurant Weeks so of course that was a given. There have parking out front so that's very helpful. I made a reservation for the patio at 7:15 thinking it'll be nice for the sunset but of course it was 103 still outside...lol... We were going to see if they could move us to indoor but when we checked in, the hostess was ahead of us. She knew it was going to be too hot for patio seating which was amazing of her. When you walk in, there's the hostess desk as well as a cute little lobby waiting area. Across from that is the wine cellar and around the corner was the bar lounge area. We didn't even know it was there until after dinner. It was massive. The restaurant is broken down into different rooms. We got seating in the main room where it's more of the MCM vibe with the high back booth seating. There's also a little private room to the side next to the restroom. The layout was quite beautiful and it was well decorated. There was also another room a step above us and and also the patio. The setting of the table was beautiful, elegantly dressed with an over side white table cloth. Only downfall, the booth was a bit too straight up. If you don't have good posture, you do now...lol... David was our waiter who was excellent and amazing. Very friendly and polite. Also so welcoming. As it was restaurant week, menus came out both with their daily as well as the deals. Classic menu does look quite nice but can't beat a good three course meal. That was offered for 49.00 three course, starters mains and dessert. Started off with a glass of wine before hand which a few was had throughout dinner. Service was excellent throughout the whole experience. One of the servers came over to place our napkins on our laps before. Also a warm roll with butter was brought out to start. Dinner, the options were great on the deals. We both started off with the Scottish salmon sashimi. Delicious thin slice served with seaweed salad, blood orange, scallions, Thai chili in a blood orange glaze. That was excellent and very tasty. Entrees, an order of the flank steak cooked nicely. Citrus marinated flank steak with shoestring fries, grilled baby broccolini and a creamy peppercorn sauce. This dish was flavorful and went well together. Steak was cooked well and the sauce was great. Also the beef stroganoff. Thin sliced seasoned sautéed beef served with mushrooms, onions, thyme, sweet cream and sour cream served over herbed butter noodles. I haven't had stroganoff in such a long time and this dish was very tasty and delicious. Sauce was great which sometimes I think it can be too salty but this place was great. Lastly the dessert, one was the vanilla creme brûlée. Classic Madagascar vanilla bourbon and berries. The other, strawberry Napoleon. Layered of flaky puff pastries, velvet pastry cream and fresh strawberries. Both looked amazing and very tasty. I didn't have any as I was off the sweets but let me say it went down well. The food was delicious and the restaurant was beautiful. The whole vibe was your classic Palm Springs dining. Service was amazing from the start with hostess to the end of dinner. The staffs were all amazing and very friendly. David was a major doll throughout our meal. He even mentioned happy hour which is next. We love Willie's Modern Fare, and had dinner here Saturday night. Food and service were great, and that's saying a lot since there were two large parties going on while we were there. The ambience here is lovely and refined, great for a romantic dinner. We loved our starters of the soup trio and the beet salad. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The beef stroganoff was fine - but I would prefer if the meat wasn't sliced so slimly. This restaurant is very conveniently located near our home, so we are regulars here. We frequent Willie's for so many reasons -- the food is always top notch, it is "elevated" to beyond what one expects. The service is always great. Servers smile, are attentive and welcoming. The ambiance is "wow what a great vibe". The crowd is good, the place is beautiful and the noise level is low for a busy restaurant. Obviously, Willie has the right formula to make a good experience great. Last night we attend an Opera dinner where singers performed during a 3 course meal. It may have been one of the best dinners I ever attended while living in the desert. The first course was an arugula salad with fresh figs, fresh feta, pomegranate and apple. So refreshing and a huge portion. Second course had option of short ribs, filet of sole or eggplant. I chose the sole and it was absolutely perfect. Large portion, cooked perfectly, served steaming hot. What I liked most was the top of the sole was crispy. The first was perfect, seasoned to perfection. The beurre blanc on top was creamy, delicious and complimented the fish. Dessert was a citrus roll with citrus cream, fresh fruit, OMG the orange peel made it perfect. All-in-all the perfect evening. I love Willie's. He does happy hour right. The bar fills up early but the last time we were there it was later I think we were the last customers. We ordered and got drinks. The house blanco is very nice. I had the steak fritte rare and it was perfect. My friend had the fish and chips. Can't go wrong with fish and chips. We decided to switch up and tried a new restaurant this trip. Valet guy was super nice even though we came in around back vs off the 111. The hostess brought us to our table, and said she would leave us with the cocktail and wine menus so we could enjoy a drink before ordering. We ordered cocktails and sat and waited and waited. The drinks came, and the waitress finally brought dinner menus. In the meantime, a bus boy brought us a little shopping bag of leftovers, even though it was obvious, we hadn't even eaten yet. Two people ordered the prime rib, one ordered the stroganoff, and the last person ordered the sole. The server took away the funny little charger plates, which served no purpose for anything, and brought out our salads. It took a while for the meals to be brought out, but they first brought two Prime ribs, a New York, and a short rib. We explained that the Prime ribs were correct but the New York and short rib were wrong. The server came back out, we explained the mistake and she had them fire the fish quickly. Meanwhile, the other meals made their way around the kitchen and back out to the dining room. The prime rib was lukewarm, and the gnocchi tasted like the little cast-iron pan, but was actually hot. The stroganoff did not have a lot of meat, and the noodles looked dried up. The fish was hot and was OK. The server comped a martini because of the wait, but it was a dirty martini with way too much olive juice, and not at all what was ordered. Error on the bill and they ended up charging me for both and crediting one. I suppose we could have told the server what was wrong but we just wanted to get out of there. read more

Friday evening at Willie's was quite busy. We sat in the Lounge area, a nicely furnished room with colorful modern art on the walls and a generally nice vibe. We ordered from the bar menu and had the Caesar Salad with fresh anchovies, (quite good) Onion Rings, Steak Fries, Brisket Burnt Ends, Wedge Salad, and Beef Tenderloin Tournedos. All were well prepared and good. By far, the best item was the Beef Tenderloin with a Blue Cheese Crust. This was perfectly prepared medium rare as requested. The house wine served, a Pinot Noir, was okay. It was an enjoyable meal! Service was good. read more

Dinner with friends who recommended Willies. With 6 of us at the table, we asked for a quiet table. They came through with flying colors - we were seated in a private room near the back of the restaurant. NICE!!! Jessica, our server, was in the room soon after we were seated. Very welcoming and very helpful, answering all our questions about the menu. My wife and I decided to share the wedge salad ($18) and the Chicken Ballotine ($34). Because we were sharing, they split the dishes in the kitchen. While presentation loses something when it is split in the kitchen, we really appreciated it because it made sharing easy. Each of the dishes were fantastic. One of our friends ordered the General Tso's Cauliflower as an appetizer. That dish was outstanding!!! When we return, I will definitely be getting that dish. I've been wanting to come here for several years but for some reason never made it. We decided to go for happy hour in the lounge and it was perfect. I am gluten free and am always nervous that there won't be much on the menu for me to choose from to eat. I had the shepherds pie and it was delicious! We had a large group (100+). Owner Willie Rhine and General Manager Veronica Cavasos were incredibly kind and helpful hosts, super efficient and extraordinarily elegant, without pretention. The menu selection freshness quality of the food was outstanding. The ceaser salad was simple, but the touch of very fresh white sardine atop was lovely. The Dover Sole was done perfectly as was the slow cooked braised beef. And food portions were more than generous for fare of this quality. The trio of creme brulee was just one of several outstanding and delicious dessert options. We look forward with great anticipation to our return in 2027! read more

We are regulars at Willie's Modern Fare. We love eating in the bar, great ambience, great menu and portions are just right. The best Wedge salad for sure, and all entrees are on point. We enjoy it so much that I celebrated my 75th birthday for a party of 12 in the private room on the Fourth of July. Willie is a delight to work with and always aims to please. Amazing early dinner in the bar at Willie's. We got there at 4:45 and it was packed at 5:00. They did let the line of about 20 in before they opened at 5:00 which was great. We selected a high top table for two. Instantly had water and menus. Served by a delightful server named Yael. Extremely polite attentive with a great smile. I sensed true sincerity. Prime rib sandwich complete with steak fries. We also had Shepards pie. Fur an appetizer we dejected edamame potstickers delicious too add in two cocktails and we finished at 84.58 before tip. My second time at Willie's. We went to the Sunday afternoon tea. It was really great and comparable to any we have had abroad or on cruises. The tea was great in variety and the food was outstanding. All 3 sandwiches were Excellent! Egg Chicken salad and Smoked Salmon Scones w clotted cream + a lovely homemade tasting fruit. While perfectly edible the scones lacked a certain flaky but rich character. The clotted cream while decent had a type of seasoning I thought not necessary. My hubby + guest really enjoyed both scones + cream Now the best part was the 3 desert tray. While we didnt have room to each take one each which was how it was served - the Passion fruit (a Fave for me) Opera Cake delish + French something were all awesome we finished ours the next day. I'm not sure they would replenish the foods if requested - although no need for us. A great tea selection which would have been complete for me if they had my Favorite Darjeeling which they did not. When I ordered the herbal tea but didnt like exchanged for server was lovely. We had our 40th Anniversary Luncheon at Willie's and the entire event was flawless. Before guests arrived we discussed the order and timing of events with Margie and everything worked perfectly. Margie was always around and available if we needed something done. The lounge bartender, lounge hors d'oeuvres servers and the dining room servers did an excellent job. Each table got their food together so no one at a table had to wait and all the servers knew exactly who got what and did not have to ask people what they ordered (I hate when that happens in a good restaurant). At the end of the luncheon as our guests were leaving, many of them commented on how much they enjoyed the hors d'oeuvres, dinners and the efficiency of the staff. Willie's saved our night. Last night in Palm Desert and the other restaurant we tried didn't work out due to long wait times. At 8:30 we were panicking to find something else for dinner. I used OpenTable and Willie's popped up. We were nervous since they closed at 9 and all the surrounding restaurants were closing up, but i made the reservation for 8:30, last time slot, i even wondered if it was a mistake since the restaurants in my town close their kitchens early and wont serve food past a certain time. The host was so chill and accommodating. We wanted to do the happy hour but i still made a reservation so they knew we were coming in. Our server was great im sad i didn't get her name! The roasted beets and the butternut squash ravioli made for a heavenly combo. We sat in the lounge - no reservations allowed as it is first come, first serve. A different menu in the lounge that rocks! Beet salad was very light and very tasty. The ravioli of butternut was yummy however we had to request some bread so that we can taste every drop. The shepherds pie was very good however it is a heavy dish. Wow! That's what I think of Willie's. Our very first time at Willie's but it won't be our last. We just moved to RM...and so happy we found this gem. We came to eat in the lounge but it was packed. They said we could sit on the patio and order from the lounge menu. There were 4 of us...all ordered a glass of Josh wine...for $7. We ordered Wedge Salads (so good) fish and chips, Shepherds pie, and 2 beef fillets, meals. Everyone was pleased and impressed! We were in the restaurant on Thursday, 2-13 to beat the Valentines Day rush. Food - love the menu, service once we were seated as good, and atmosphere was very nice. However, the front desk and overall management were not great. They had a private event in the bar so all the bar customers were seated in regular restaurant seating, i.e. the restaurant was overbooked. Our reservation was 30 minutes late as were the reservations of four or five other groups. The young women at the front desk didn't know how to handle the complaints and frustration. We heard the same thing over and over - "we're clearing your table now". Fortunately, a more experienced hostess stepped in, apologized, and offered us a glass of wine. Once we were seated, she checked on us, brought us another glass of wine and discounted our meal. A night of frustration was thankfully rescued by the hostess (I just can't remember her name). We will be back. This was a one night glitch but it could have been handled better from the start. read more

We went for happy hour last week and sort of unsatisfied. I was looking forward to the friend chicken plate, but when it came out it was very dark. It tasted as if had been cooked in old oil. I hope they clean out the fryer on a regular basis but didn't taste like it that day. Prices for happy hour and menu are good but I'll skip the fried chicken next time. read more

My husband mom and I ate at Willy's for the first time . We wanted to try the lounge food which is served all night. Everything was around $16 a plate which was a good price for the quality and well prepared food. The overall experience was a 5 star experience! I asked our server his name and he said " every house has one" and I guessed John and he said yes! Haha. He was so funny and a great server as well. I wish Yelp gave half stars because it's about a 4 1/2 rating for me. The polenta with sausage, fried chicken with the mashed and spinach sides were5 star along with the generous pours for $9. The prime rib sandwich was way too well done , no au juice either, because John explained they use the beef from the night before and re heat it so it cannot be rare. If you like your meat well done you will like this dish because it's prepared nicely with good fries. Also the sauce on the ravioli was very tasty but the ravioli was very dense and chewy. The baked Alaska was so hard we could not get our spoons to cut through it for a long time. Way too frozen and not as good as the old ones which used to come flaming. It was still defiantly one of our favorite spots in the desert so far. read more
