Cool location and setting. We had a cocktail, an appetizer, stuffed mushrooms, and the seafood paella. Cocktails were well done, nice options. Stuffed mushrooms were battered or breaded, nice flavor. The seafood paella was special. Everything we like in a paella. And we've had it Spain, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba in late 1980s Chicago when they were independent, and our Málaga friends' version. We've been back a couple times now, both for a birthday dinner celebration, and for poolside lunch. Unfortunately, we've had mixed experiences. The cocktails and food have been pretty good, but service has been a little inconsistent. DRINKS: The cocktails are well made. We especially love to sit at the poolside bar and have drinks and a lite lunch. Inside, I've had an Anejo Old Fashioned, and my wife had a "Don't Call Me Sherry" (Dry Spanish Sherry, Amara, Dry Curacao & Bitters). Both were wonderful. Poolside offers a different cocktail menu, with more refreshing concoctions, like Spicy Margaritas, Paloma Clasica, and Bloody Marias, among others. FOOD: For our dinner visit, we started by sharing the Scallop Croquettes and Chorizo Dates, which were both excellent. We ordered two of the Paella Mixta to share for three people. Smaller sized servings, and lacked some seasoning. It was okay, but would probably not order it again. Poolside, there's a lighter menu with tapas, sandwiches/wraps, and salads. On our last visit, we tried the Brussel Sprouts & Chorizo, Cheese & Ham Croquettes, and the Mussels Fisherman Sauce. All three of these were excellent. I believe that they may currently be closed for the summer, but it's definitely a nice location to experience some decent cocktails and tapas. I'm sure we'll be back. read more

We had gone to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We wanted to sit outside as the weather was nice at 8pm. But, instead they sat us inside. We ordered and food arrived fairly quickly. The patatas bravas were awful. The gambas al ajillo were inedible. The paella tierra y mar was terrible. The croquet de jamon and empanadas de pollo were just OK. The only thing that I would go back for was the Basque cheesecake. Not overly sweet, good texture. The best I ever had, ever. read more

Well, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth after my interaction with the bartender. Usually when someone is told there's been a simple error on an order, one simply accepts it and corrects it with a new order. No. It took 3 different people in my party to talk with the bartender and explain to HER that she had made the incorrect drink. The fact that she stared me down in my face and blatantly told me, this is what I ordered, only to see that little tiny glimmer of light in her eye when she finally realized she did in fact make an error and make the wrong drink. That's how our night started and service only snowballed to worse. We were sat at our tables, no menus, no acknowledgment from any server. It took the manager to realize that our party had not been attended to. The tapas are tapas, in order to be satisfied you'll have to order several. The croquetas were the favorite of our group, we also enjoyed the shrimp. I would say the tabla española is simply not worth the price. Overall, I probably will not return. read more

Food was 3/5-the paella was good (fortunately not too salty like other reviews), the croquettes were delish, dates yummy, but the corn and cauliflower was very oily. Service 1/4- We had a late rez (8:45pm on a Saturday) and there were still a few tables around--it was honestly the worst service I can remember in a long time. It was like everyone there just wanted to be done w work. One of our party of 4 cleared our table of app plates and other plates by putting on empty table behind him because no was helping us. It's too bad because the food was pretty good and the spot at the hotel is cute. But I hope they get folks in there that can provide service. I can't recommend because of service but wanted to give a few stars as food was good and bad service is not the kitchens fault. Hope they get their act together. read more

There is a warmth when you walk in, the fireplace adds a nice touch to the ambiance. The menus are impossible to read, however, as it is so dark and the font is really, really tiny. Even our server had trouble finding something to point out to us. Our server, Daniel, was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Wine is an average pour, $13/glass. The chorizo dates are excellent. They are stuffed with a smoky cheese and almost makes you feel like you started with dessert! The Serrano plate was ok. I've had Serrano before where it melted in your mouth, and this was a little chewy. The Shrimp, pork and chicken paella was a bit disappointing. Although I like my rice al dente, this rice was a tad bit undercooked, almost crunchy. The shrimp was excellent, the sausage was good. The chicken was overcooked and dry. read more

We took our parents for their famous Mar y Tierra Paella yesterday. We have family that went studied culinary arts in Spain and makes different paellas in Colombia. This was the worst paella we have ever had. The rice was mushy, there was no flavor, we had to ask for salt. It had 4 shrimps and small pieces of sausage and diced chicken. It was horrible. The service was impeccable, the spain salad was delicious but the paella was horrible. The bill was over $200 , which I usually pay good money for good food but this was a waste. My suggestion is order anything else but that and find another cook that was experience in making this dish . read more

Sol Y Sombra is the onsite restaurant at The Paloma Resort. It's only open for dinner, except for brunch on Sunday but we were able to order food to be delivered poolside. We just couldn't sit inside the beautiful dining room. We shared the Pan Con Tomate & Manchego Truffle Fries. The fries were hand cut and the smell of the truffle oil was heavenly. They were addictive and dangerously delicious. I was craving them the next day. The Pan Con Tomate was comprised of grilled ciabatta bread topped with a tomato compote and sliced Heirloom tomatoes. It was a nice, light snack. The poolside bar also serves as the bar for the restaurant. However, during dinner tableside craft cocktail service is available. I ordered the Sombrero Purpura (Purple Hat) - Gin, St. Germain, Lavender bitters, Lemon juice. It was light & refreshing - the perfect warm weather drink. Next time we return, I'll be sure to have dinner in the charming dining room and possibly try the Paella and a tableside craft cocktail. read more

The service was completely uncoordinated and frustratingly slow: I understand a new manager was hired to fix this. Food: The brussel sprouts were amazing! The cauliflower was also tasty. Both a must do. However, the vaunted paella was merely OK...needed more saffron and more kick and maybe more than two large shrimp / prawns. We dined outside which was nice since the weather cooperated but was still a bit noisy...outside but not open air. Comfortable seating, overall. CV needs more restaurant variety and this is a nice addition, serving fairly authentic Spanish food in a fun vibey setting. We opted to sit outside for dinner on a warm evening. Very pleasant. I was refraining from alcohol but appreciated seeing 3 drinks named after Sofi Tukker songs on the cocktail menu. Ordered a couple tapas, one starter, a salad, and one main for two to share. Plenty of food (tapas are nice portions). Drinks took a while to come out. They brought my iced tea to the wrong table, went to get another, and almost delivered it to the same wrong table again. Some confusion amongst the staff could use some sharpening. Then our food arrived in reverse order: main first, then tapas, salad & appetizer last. Weird, but we didn't really care. The best things we ate were the mussels, braised pork (main), and jamón serrano. The sauce and puree rounded out the pork perfectly. Chorizo mussel broth had a great spicy kick and deep flavors. And jamón is jamón, it's always good. These dishes were the heartiest things we ordered so we were happy. Misses were the papas bravas and Spanish Caesar. Potatoes weren't fingerlings and barely saucy; the dish didn't resemble papas bravas. Our Caesar was just lettuce and shaved cheese with too much, flavorless, dressing. I had asked for the migas on the side (hubby's allergic to wheat) but received none, and almonds were absent. Not a perfect meal but a good one for the most part. Server said, I have no idea. Hmm. Ok. I said, how about just a skinny margarita? To which he said, I have no idea if we can do that. LOL. Seriously folks it was like an SNL sketch. I think this guy had two jobs. One at Foot Locker down the street and one here. And he was working both at the same time, but I digress... Ordered the Mushroom Croquettes which were fantastic, the Calamari which was good, the Roasted Pimenton Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts with Chorizo. Both well seasoned and delicious. Finally, the Seafood Paella for four people. Chock full of clams and shrimp, this dish was well crafted, wonderfully presented and very filling. Asked our server for more water. About 10 mins later flagged him down, and asked again. He said, oh does everyone want water? LOL. We said sure. We think his shift at Foot Locker had just ended. OK, you get the point. Will definitely be back. Fortunately, the quality of food overshadowed the incompetent service. Hoping by then, management will have a few more staff training sessions. The ambiance varies depending on where you are seated. Outside is nice, inside has two dining rooms of which one has great ambiance with décor, a fireplace, etc, but the other is much less inviting. The service was great, our server was knowledgeable, gave us just the right amount of attention, and even gave us the history of the building. The food was variable. The seafood paella has excellent quality seafood. Some reviewers have mentioned the amount of seafood being sparse, but we would gladly trade off a little less quantity for great quality. The rice was crisped on the sides, but not on the bottom, so not truly authentic. The empanadas are about 80% corn masa, 20% filling, which is very sparse on the filling. Also, this makes them a very heavy entrée without a ton of taste. We would not order these again. read more

We got the vegetarian paella and the tierra y mar paella, the shrimp tapa, mushroom croquettes, papas, and cucumber salad. All the food was incredible. It was not the biggest bang for your buck, so I suggest going with a larger group so you can try more tapas. I gave 4 stars because although the private patio was lovely, we were forgotten. Our server Annabella was lovely. So convenient to not have to leave the hotel to go out to eat. We were there mid week so it was really quiet and calm. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace and the vodka Paloma was tasty! We aren't big on fried food in general, so the tapas (croquettes and empanadas) weren't our favorite. A must try ! Excellent ambiance and delicious food. I read about this place in Palm Springs life magazine shortly before it opened and was already stoked to visit. It's been open only about a week so far. We went for cocktails and I managed to talk my man into sharing the clams . They were so good . The white wine sauce, the onions, the toast they were served with , yumm yumm and yumm. After that delicious endeavor and despite our being "not so hungry" we ordered two more tapas . The shrimp and the elote were both stellar. Both of these were recommended and they did not disappoint . I can say the same about the entire experience. Great staff, tasty cocktails, yummy food, cozy setting, I felt spoiled. Go ahead and spoil yourself a little too , because personally, I can't wait to go back and try more items. A great new addition to the desert! Hidden gem, genius!! I believe they said it was their 4th day since opening.. We stopped by without a reservation and we're fortunate to get a seat in the lounge! The place reminds me of Del Rey and Counter Reformation - dark, intimate, and private. The food was delicious! Great tapas, we had the Vegan Brussels sprouts- sooo gooood!! and Crab Cakes -- crab was plentiful, great sauce, cocktails looked great!! Bunuelos to end our night! Abel was our server and was amazing!! Although a man in large-framed eyeglasses kept on pressuring the team, rough tone and expressions (I guess you can behave that place if you run the place?!) + all servers seemed to be sharing 1 computer (which caused delays, but we had all the time!). Regardless, servers remained composed and dismissed the outbursts (which I feel could have been handled differently - it reminded me of Hell's Kitchen-type of behavior). : ( Anyway, service was great - Abel even showed us their secret speakeasy!! the hostess, who I did not get her name was upset sweet and welcoming, Daniel - Chef? stopped by to check on us and was very nice! A big disappointment! The staff is not trained & unorganized. The drinks were served warm & the food cold. The "made to order' dish was premad & reheated. After 25 minutes we were told the wine which the waiter suggested , could not be found. The acoustics amplified the conversations and it is difficult to hear your party. It was our second visit there. In all honesty, after the "credit card incident", the only reason we gave it another shot was A: it was one of only 3 area restaurants who provided $100 dining certificate for 10000 points. B the place had just opened and we always want to see if past mistakes were rectified. Unfortunately, although the service improved, the quality of the food really slipped. We went in on a cold day and although we were indoors, for some crazy reason, the staff kept leaving the doors open. There was only one couple outside so not sure why this was so difficult... especially after we made mention of it. Now onto the food and drink. The wine was reasonably priced and had a good pour. The food was mostly vastly under seasoned. Especially the garlic shrimp dish. It was totally under seasoned. Empanadas we're Ok and the Brussel Sprouts we're probably the best of the 3 tapas dishes. For dinner, we had the Seafood Paella, which didn't look as good (less seafood) as the previous picture I posted and really went down in quality. The rice was way too salty and the seafood had zero seasoning. We took it home and dumped it. (Neither of us said anything to each other and it wasn't until we got home we both compared notes and were equally unimpressed). We tasted the other pork dish the other diners we invited and that was equally bad. Actually worse .. again, no seasoning. I didn't ask the others what they thought but felt guilty for picking this place. No dessert for us. Perhaps it was just an anomaly, We are definitely done with this place. read more

Based on the reviews I expected ambiance and good food. Neither delivered tonight. There is zero atmosphere other than hanging lanterns from an acoustic tile ceiling. This is NOT an authentic Spanish tapas restaurant. If you know good tapas, this restaurant is not it. The paella was a joke. So salty, it was barely eatable. More like rice a roni with dry chicken. We ordered at least 10 different 'tapas' plates and I cannot say one stood out. Keep your dining dollars and eat someplace else. read more
