Freddie, we love you. We have been there twice and have had exceptional meals both times. This is a wonderful, charming, comfortable place. Not fussy, not plain, just perfect. At the Cole Hotel, with a nice view of people speeding into town on 111, but what will surprise you is the sophistication of the cooking and the friendliness of the waiter and the chef. We've had: - Perfect bread, crusty, crunchy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. - Fabulous cocktails in heavy-bottomed glasses that let you know that you're royalty. - Cod that tastes like something you would get from Nobu. - French onion soup that might not be the cheesiest in the world, but the depth of flavor is amazing. - Rigatoni with a delicious sauce. - Desserts that have us melting. And more... It's truly a special place. I wish we could go every week, but it's not so impossibly priced that you can't go at least once a month. Freddie is always there with warmth and humor, and both gentlemen we've had as servers have been well informed and service-oriented. We never drive down this section of 111 when coming from Mission Lakes. We usually take Indian Canyon and then we turn on Vista Chino. For years, we have actually missed seeing this wonderful restaurant, but one day we just decided to explore and go a different way, and there it was. You can't miss that sign. Don't let this small place fool you! There are only 9 tables that can seat up to 40, but their limited menu is great because Freddie makes it all. We had the french onion soup (needed more cheese) and tomato salad to start. Entrees were good, tried the elk, outstanding with the juniper berry demi-glaze, and the short rib rigatoni bolognese, good but many of the cuts of short rib in my bowl were fatty and my bowl was served without cleaning the rim, had sauce splatter and fingerprints. In fact, the chef mentioned that it is one of the dishes he is most proud of, and it is easy to see why. We went to Freddy's Kitchen tonight to give it a try and I was very impressed! A selective but intriguing menu, a friendly staff, and Chef Freddy would frequently come and check on us. We started the evening with a special limoncello martini that Chef Freddy created and then on to escargot, which was quite tasty. I was set on the elk medallions, but when I heard about the special miso cod we decided to order both to share! The elk was delicious and tender, but the cod truly stole the show! Service was a bit too effusive for my taste. Probably because it was so empty. Two tables already done with their main dishes when I arrived and then I was alone. But I was abandoned when trying to pay so I left cash and found the server and Chef next door cleaning up in the bar as I exited. It's not attached. Expensive, but in line with PS prices I guess. In my annual April visit to Palm Springs, I make a point of dining at Freddie's. The place is small and plain. While there is no table cloths, it's the food that makes it fine dinning. We always ask for their recommendations. Last night, we had cod in a miso sauce. The fish melted in your mouth. We asked the chef for wine recommendation which was a perfect Pinot Noir. The vegetables were perfect as were the starters and desserts. The French chef came out and visited with us. He's fun and very dedicated to what he's doing. The waiter was attentive, helpful and fun. I had the plesure of dining at Freddies on 4/21/25 and I am so glad I made the drive for my friend's birthday. The room is very cozy and intimate. I ordered escargot ( excellent) and then had the rack of lamb with potatoes and vegs. I can honestly say it is the BEST I have ever had - And, I have eaten alot ;-] The portion was large and the sauce beyond delicious. A real winner., but they don't have it all of the time, so call and ask. Freddie is very congenial and speaks to each table about their experience which was very nice. Our server, Dustin, was pleasant and unobtrusive,while being there when you needed him whicn was great! My friend had the Chocolate mousse for dessert which she raved about. Last night was my third time dining at Freddie's. I'm not sure why I haven't left a review before, but I'm leaving one now. Freddie's Kitchen is located at the Cole motel? / hotel on N. Palm Canyon Drive. Blink and you might miss it. We were a party of 4 with a 6pm reservation and we decided to arrive 30 minutes early to have a cocktail at the bar. Like our 2 visits before, Matthew was tending bar and dished out the 5 star cocktails. The bar is separate from the dining room, and allows patrons to scan the menu and enjoy an aperitif. Matthew is a great conversationalist and excellent bartender. Our guests opted to order specific cocktails and Matthew delivered his take on a 5 star gin gimlet, and a 5 star twist on something I think was a mezcal old fashioned of some sort. I did not have a chance to taste it, but our guests said it was 5 star and quite delicious. Matthew is also involved in the wine selection and we had delicious white burgundy wine and a delicious red wine (sorry folks, forgot to take a pic of both bottles). Hamachi (Yellowtail) Appetizer: 5 stars! Limited time special - Hamachi crudo with a side of wasabi and delicious crudo sauce. The fish was very fresh and buttery and simply delicious. I would order this appetizer again if it is on the menu the next time I visit. Pork Chop: 5 stars! To be honest I am not sure what the pork chop was seasoned with, but I can tell you this: This dish is absolutely wonderful and very filling. The porkchop is perfectly cooked and comes with roasted veggies and a delicious french, buttery kind of sauce. Very good and also a limited time special. I highly recommend. Service: 5 stars! Always friendly Matthew and of course Freddie; making sure to speak with all the patrons between cooking. Decor is modern, cozy, and perfect for a date or intimate dinner party. The soupe de poisson special took our taste buds straight to heaven, my miso black cod was an incredible experience in flavor and texture, and Jeff's elk medallions were absolute perfection -- both in presentation and taste. We found Freddie's on Yelp several months ago. We finally made it in, and certainly the food, atmosphere and service matched our expectations. The preparation of the food was on par, from temperature of the Elk and Duck, along with an amazing mushroom strudel with a variety of 3 different mushrooms. This restaurant is about food and experience. If you are looking to have a leisurely, quality meal, this place absolutely paces the dishes and keeps you engaged while waiting. Some reviews expressed the "not so pretty" presentation of the dishes. They are not wrong for some areas, however the taste of each dish was great and sizeable portions for extremely reasonable prices. The person who complained about a cost for bread, must have been having vision issues that day since it's no surprise that clearly stated on the menu is $5 for bread and butter. It came out warm and crisp and is worth saving some to dip in the oil from the tomato salad. We didn't stay at the Cole Hotel, but the view and ambience appeared adorable. We will be back to eat here again and we hope others continue to support Freddie and Marco at this quality desert dining. read more

The food was amazing especially the rack of lamb. And the fish soup. There is no set menu and it is based on what is currently in season. Freddie's is THE BEST KEPT SECRET in Palm Springs!! I love this place and need to review it so they stay here. The food is top shelf. I've been three times. The short rib pasta, the duck, the elk are all perfectly prepared. The attention to detail is excellent. I've had the escargot appetizer, the Caesar salad and both are wonderful. We stumbled across this great restaurant quite by chance, and so glad we did. I had two appetizers since I just couldn't choose between the escargot and onion soup gratinée. Both were delightful. I took a chance on the black cod (which I'd never had before) and was thrilled with the delicate, flavorful, flaky fish with miso sauce. Capped off the meal with crème brûlée which was so good -- it had to have been made by a Frenchman! My dinner companions were equally pleased with the vegetable strudel and duck. After reading the 5-star reviews here, and seeing beautiful photographs of the food, we were looking forward to our meal here. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the hype. The onion soup and mushroom strudel were highlights of the meal. The escargot was OK though one serving was over salted, while another's was under salted. Bread was $5 a basket, and for more than one slice each, we needed to order a second basket. At this price point I would expect one price for bread service. I'd also expect cloth napkins (not paper). After waiting for a very long time between courses, our mains arrived. The presentation of the elk was nothing like the elegant photos here on Yelp. While they were cooked to the appropriate temperature, the medallions were lukewarm when brought to the table. The side of vegetables was overcooked and mushy as if they came from a chafing dish left to steam for too long. The overall presentation was without much care, worse than the average airline meal. Service was poor and chaotic. The server didn't write down the order and needed to be corrected twice. We had trouble flagging him down, and the wait between courses was long. Plates were cleared for half the table and not others. Needless to say we skipped ordering more wine or dessert and left as soon as we could flag down the server for the check.
