Chez Pierre started offering brunch/lunch on weekends a few months ago. This is the 3rd time we've have brunch there and each time it has been wonderful. The service is top notch. It's a lovely little restaurant space with ample parking in the adjacent lot. Views of Highway 111 and the mountains beyond. The blueberry pancakes are the best I've found in the Coachella Valley. My husband loved his ham and Swiss cheese croissant sandwich. They will be closing for the months of July and August - so we will go for brunch one more time next Sunday, and then return when they reopen in September. read more

The three of us came tonight for memory purposes. Our family has been coming here for years. We had a death in the family and this was one of her favorite places. We had the celery remoloude salad and the onion soup gratinee for starters, and they were outstanding as usual. For our entrée, we got the special sand dabs, the veal pot roast, and the beef bourginion. And for dessert we had our usual chocolate mousse and crème brûlée. If you truly want a traditional French country meal, you need to come to Chez Pierre. There are always many evening specials, in addition to their traditional menu to choose from and they do not disappoint. We went for the first time but not the last, last night. We were pleasantly surprised how delicious the bread and pate were to start, which is complementary. Then they have some great summer specials through October for $59. That includes an entrée, an appetizer and a dessert which are very large in size for a French restaurant. The only thing that wasn't amazing was possibly the fish and the potatoes au gratin. Next time we are going to get the French onion soup, the Caesar salad and try the liver and onions and the pasta dishes or -possibly the steak. I'm so happy I made it to Chez Pierre before their summer break! My fish was fresh, tender and delicious. Arturo helped me select a delicious French Chardonnay I can wait to have again as well. For dessert we had a puff pastry with ice cream and chocolate sauce. The pastry tasted freshly baked and delightful. Excellent! Service and meals were perfect. The staff was so welcoming and very professional and polite greeted you with a warm smile and a welcome. This is our second time in a week that we visited. Mom loved the chicken mushroom crêpe. We ordered the first visit and she had to get it again. I tried the steak omelette, which was recommended by a patron who was leaving the restaurant and it was delicious. The steak was so tender. There was nothing I would change about either of the meals. The atmosphere is very cozy. Tables are situated very close to others and it may be a bit loud for people that want a quieter evening, but that's the charm of being in a restaurant that is packed. This sounds of people's voices mingling together is somewhat like the sound of a bustling life. It's reasonably priced for the location and area and you can expect to get a more upgrade and carefully put together meal. If you're looking for a mom and pop shop, this is not the place. We've been there for dinner a long time ago. I believe we enjoyed it as well but this is the first time I went in for breakfast and it was delicious. read more

Wanted to try a new restaurant in the Coachella Valley and Chez Pierre had been on my list for a while. Figured this was as good a time as any to try it! All I can say is...how have I not been here before? It's rare to find good French food in general, and for Palm Desert to have such a great spot is very surprising. Every dish was great, quick rundown below: 1. Escargots Burgundy Style: When I think of escargot, this is exactly what I want. Heavy with butter and garlic, and very savory! 2. The Classic Onion Soup au Gratin: Same with onion soup, I want my onion soup extremely cheesy with loads of flavor. The bread inside the soup soaked up the soup and was great. 3. Maple Leaf Duck Breast: The duck breast was cooked absolutely perfectly, almost tasted like steak! My only quibble is that I wasn't a huge fan of the orange sauce as it made the overall dish a bit sweeter than I would have preferred. 4. Branzino: It's hard to get branzino wrong, and they did not do that here. It was served as a fillet, so it was easy to eat. 5. Braised Beef Bourguignon: Really loved this dish. They did not hold back on the beef, and the sauce was typical savory bourguignon sauce. 6. Chocolate Mousse Chantilly: Probably shouldn't have ordered this because we were absolutely stuffed. But it was exactly as the name says. Very mousse! Service was great here, no complaints from me. Ambience is nice. It's a small, cozy place that is clearly frequented by older folks. Tables were a bit closer than I would prefer, but it's to be expected by a place that isn't that big. Definitely need to come back here to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

Table for two. Friday at about 8PM about 5 parties in restaurant. Friendly waiter. Large basket of bread, butter and liver pate delivered quickly. Both of us had the onion soup to start. Beautiful crust of cheese and broth to die for. Unfortunately, the broth was lukewarm. Hubs had veal picatta. Sauce was perfectly seasoned, vegetables good and pasta slightly overcooked. The veal just did not look appetizing. Look at pics and you'll get it. I had the frisse salad. Nice chunks of cubed bacon, croutons, light citrus dressing, and a beautiful poached egg. But, the greens were awkward to eat- salad bunched up and impossible to cut with the butter knife. Gave up and left most of the greens on my plate. Overall, I would rate this as a budget French-ish restaurant given the food quality, decor and table settings. Given the budget-friendly price, completely acceptable. But I believe that with some tweaks, Chez Pierre could be very good. Today it was okay. read more

Chez Pierre was a pure delight last evening. We are French food enthusiasts so very picky. The menu is truly French and yet diverse enough for everyone. In addition to the menu, at least eight nightly specials made us even more impressed. You start with crusty fresh bread and complimentary pate. What? (In our home in northern California wine country, they are now charging $8 for bread) . My husband unit's very dirty martini was perfection and filled to the brim. I have not been able to find celery rémoulade since we were in France. And Chez Pierre's version was delectable. My clam chowder soup de jour was perfect. My husband raved about the Beef Bourguignon. Many items of the menu feature gormet organ meats, which one does not generally find here--ever. Yes, this is the real French deal. I could not pass up a Floating Island dessert. We tried the light Apple Tarte as well. Could they have a pastry chef too? I would be amiss not to mention the warm, truly caring service as well. Esther provided my wife and I with a table where we could side side by side, a habit we started when we first started dating. Esther greeted us and provided us with our menus. A wonderful selection of favorites and a bonus menu featuring a restaurant week special. We then met our our waiter, Edgar, for the early evening meal, and he had water and delicious bread, liver pate, and buttter brought to us. We ordered a vesper martini and titos and cranberry juice. We were in the early diners setting and did some people watching while we perused the many options for dinner. The quiet confidence of those working and the efficiency at what they did gave the ongoing activity the look of a well coached sports team. The pictures on the wall, the table setting, and even the tables put your mind in a French cafe state of mind. I ordered the escargot, the veal pot roast and the chocolate mousse, and my wife had the sand dabs, ceasar salad, and warm rice pudding. Edgar allowed me to change my side from au gratin potatoes to their homemade fettuccine. Every taste, bite, and swallow was savored with the anticipation of the next. Short of licking the plate, none was left to be scraped with a knive off the plate. It was a wonderful hour and 45 minutes in a cool and welcoming atmosphere. A small restaurant in a small shopping center on Highway 111 is a rather big deal. Upon walking in the front door, we were immediately greeted and shown to our table. Wait staff immediately greeted us again, offering water and any other sort of drink we might desire. Within a couple of minutes, my wife had the best French 75 she's ever tasted (and that would be a prodigious number). My gin and tonic was excellent, as well. Our server explained the menus. I use the plural because there were three. First, the pre-printed menu we had seen online. Second, the pre fixe menu on a separate sheet. That menu offered multiple choices for three courses for $59. Finally, the daily a la carte menu on the wall offering a veritable array of different dishes. My wife chose the veal pot roast as part of the pre fixe menu along with the obligatory onion soup and a rice pudding for dessert. I chose to order a la carte choosing a mini Caesar salad followed by soft shell crab. No dessert for me. I will steal some of the rice pudding across the table. The onion soup and veal pot roast were absolutely perfect. The Caesar salad was served with a delicious dressing and a few anchovies (that's what I always love about a really good Caesar). The soft shell crab was incredibly delicious, but I had the feeling the crabs were caught just a bit too old as the shells were a bit on the chewy side. We also were not especially fond of the rice pudding - absolutely nothing wrong with it, just not what we expected. In all, we had an amazing dinner at Chez Pierre and will most assuredly return multiple times as we travel to,the Palm Desert area. read more

The specialty Oysters were very good. Loved, Loved, Loved the Oxtails as the main course but my husband thought the Beef Bourguignon was okay. Best French food I've ever had. It doesn't try to be overly fancy or pompous - it's perfectly prepared with the right ingredients/techniques and stays true to its traditional roots. I must have driven past Chez Pierre a thousand times on 111 without ever noticing it. Then I was searching for a French restaurant to take my husband out for a birthday dinner and, lo and behold, found this highly-rated sleeper hit basically around the corner. I made a reservation for a Saturday night and checked the "celebrating birthday" box. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated right away after a warm greeting. The restaurant is intimate and cozy* with sexy dim (but not dark) lighting. We started with oysters to share. Very fresh with the perfect mignonette and fresh horseradish (A+). They also give you a generous serving of complementary paté with bread, which is an amazing touch, and since my husband can't eat bread I got to enjoy most of it (he had some paté with a fork...don't judge). Hub had one of the daily fish specials, prepared simply and perfectly, with spinach and yellow squash on the side. This particular combination of sides was the result of my husband's food allergies and our waiter's (and the chef's) attentiveness to them. They accommodated him well. I had been craving mussels for a while and got to satisfy that craving here in the best way, with a full serving to myself of the MOST PERFECTLY COOKED MUSSELS I have ever had in my life. I am a big fan of mussels and have eaten my fair share, but usually the highlight is the broth of whatever fancy variation. Here, the broth was simple -- classic French preparation -- allowing the mussels themselves to stand out. I didn't know mussels could be THIS tender. Truly delicious. I also subbed my side of frites for potatoes au gratin, one of my favorite things, so I was a very happy camper. We were quite full but agreed to peruse the dessert menu and decided on the rice pudding as an allergy-friendly share. It came out with a candle and at least 6 members of the staff singing Happy Birthday. Nice old-school charm right there. At times service was a little slow, but overall our waiter was fantastic and the amazing meal more than made up for any wait. Chez Pierre may be hidden between empty storefronts but it is definitely a thriving local gem. If you can't take my word for it despite my dropping "perfect" thrice in one review, just go try it! *hot, actually. It was a chilly evening but I regretted wearing long sleeves. read more

My partner and I came to Chez Pierre for NYE dinner. Both of us have been here before, but this was my first time eating here for dinner. Tonight was a 5 star experience. Beefeater Gin Martini: 5 stars. Though some may say it is difficult to screw up a martini, I will say that not everyone gets this right. Aside from an ice cold martini filled to the rim, the waiter brought out extra olives for us to enjoy! Oysters on the half shell: 5 stars! These were so good we ordered another half dozen! Perfectly shucked oysters served with plenty of cocktail sauce, horse raddish, and mignonette all 5 star perfection! Dover Sole (special): 5 stars! Perfectly cooked Dover Sole with burre blanc sauce, capers, Pommes Anna and carrot puree. Though a tad pricy for what it was, the fish was perfectly prepared and quite delicious. Perfect meal for a NYE dinner. Apple Tart w/ vanilla ice cream: 5 stars. I do not know the proper name of this dessert, but I do know that it was 5 stars! Not too sweet, delicious homemade vanilla ice cream... how could one go wrong? Service: 5 stars: Our waiter, Edgar was fabulous! Very attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and always made sure our needs were being met. I hope to have him again as a waiter the next time we stop by. After fresh bread,complementary pate and of course butter, each of us chose some thing unusual off the menu and extensive list of specials. . Calf's liver, frogs legs, sweetbreads. They all met with rave revues. It's hard for me to pass up osso buco and so I didn't. So tender and flavorful! Probably didn't need the apple tart for desert. Thank goodness they brought 4 spoons.
