Came here on a summer Friday night. Before 6:30 pm, so ordered their 2 person 3 course meal with a bottle of house wine. Everything were good. Especially liked their poached salmon. It was so FRESH and tender. The place also filled up very quickly with locals. Many came with their dogs taking advantage of the sidewalk settings. Service was friendly. The service was fine, the ambience was fine, but the food was abysmal. One of the worst meals I have had in a long time in a restaurant in New York. I had the confit de canard. The potatoes were as dry and flavorless as old cheap leather, and the duck tasted like cardboard with gravy smeared on it. The only thing edible was the frisee salad. I would have sent it back but I was meeting people there for the first time and didn't want to make a scene. The kitchen must have had that plate sitting for a few hours before they reheated it. Saturday brunch walk-in with the place filled to 40% capacity. Very chill vibes and French/Paris eatery setup with nice bright interiors. I wish their draught selection was wider, but the Kronenbourg pint they had on tap was chilled and went down pretty easy! For food, we got linguine with butter for out little butter cakes, Moroccan Sandwich ($19) with Spicy Lamb Sausage. The French Baguette was pretty hard to eat but the sausage was good. The winner of the table though was an excellent Vegetarian Avocado Toast ($19). The Yellow and Red Cherry tomatoes and onions just elevated the taste to the next level for me! Service was slightly slow in terms of our drinks. Food however arrived within 20 mins of ordering. I ordered eggs Benedict on toasted English muffins with smoked salmon and salmon roe and a side of roasted potatoes. It was yummy. My husband ordered a burger with a side of garlic French fries. I think he liked his burger. I also liked the garlic fries; they were garlicky. My sister ordered the croque Soleil and she liked it as well. It's a nice brunch spot. It was my first time eating at a French restaurant so I wasn't sure what to expect. I got the French onion soup to start out and it was exactly what I wanted. Very savory, warm and cheesy. For my entree I got the steak hache and frites. It was very tender and the peppercorn was great. The garlic fries were also delightful with pieces of roasted garlic sprinkled in. The service was very quick! We made a reservation before hand, and it wasn't a hassle to get one. I would definitely recommend getting one because it looked like it does get full later in the night. The place has such a pretty feel to it and the energy is warm and inviting. We started off with the espresso which I mean was so good and the perfect jump start to the day haha. Perfect amount of a sweet onion flavor, not too salty and the cheese was a perfect amount of gooey baked on top ! Hands down the best burger I've had in the city. Not only was it absolutely massive, but it had a great flavor, was well-cooked, melted in your mouth, AND came with fries. If you're looking for a good burger, definitely come here. The service was also pretty standard. They had someone refilling waters before it even got halfway which was really nice. The staff were friendly and it took a pretty average amount of time to get our food. Wasn't quick or too long. I would say it does get a bit loud; I had some trouble hearing my partner across the table and we were tucked in the corner. She is a Michelin star trained chef, and I would be remiss, if I didn't use in the context of who she trained with and mentored with, which is a list of who's who. Here is a sampling of who, Michel Guerard, Alain Senderens, Pierre Troisgros, Roger Verge, Anne Willan, Barbara Tropp. She also owned an Italian restaurant for over 20 years on Cape Cod, and now advising to a new family owned restaurant in Delray Beach. I mention all of this, because I found this place that seemed interesting at least to me. However, when we ordered from them today, it was far more than interesting. It was amazing! That's not just coming from my limited experience with anything but from my beloved, so I highly recommend this place in more ways than one. My wife and I have lived in Manhattan for many years and were not familiar with Cafe Du Soleil, so our first impression was positive. We went on a busy Friday evening and we were given a corner table which was relatively quiet and away from the crowded bar area. The food was as good and perhaps a little better than other French restaurants we've been to over the years in Manhattan. I had the Coq au Vin (chicken in a sauce with onions and a few other veggies). My wife had the bouillabaisse (a fish stew). Both were very tasty. The glass of Bordeaux wine I had was very pleasant and didn't taste like the bottle had been opened for more than a day. The service was efficient and our waiter was friendly. The atmosphere was typical French bistro. The restaurant and bar are popular in the neighborhood, especially on weekends. Reservations recommended. read more
