Recently this restaurant has been in the news for their inventive space bubble seating so I decided to check it out for Sunday brunch. The host seated us at a regular table but when I went back up and requested a bubble, he was able to oblige and move us (so nice!). The service was quick and efficient, if not overly friendly. (They were Very Busy and we did confuse things by moving tables!) The meal was fabulous and special requests accommodated. Brunch cocktails were reasonably priced and delicious. I was very pleased with our bill, and delighted that there was no covid 19 surcharge. This restaurant is doing an excellent job of meeting new social distancing standards while still keeping competitive prices and serving fantastic food. I can't wait to return for dinner! This evening I finally got a chance to dine at the ultra popular, Upper West Side gem, Cafe Du Soleil. I was seated inside one of their coveted "outdoor heated bubbles," which are sanitized in between each reservation. I was quite lucky to snag a reservation two days ago for their amazing (and random) Thursday special: $79 for a 3-course dinner with a bottle of wine for two people. The time slots went quickly on Opentable as the latest reservation I was able to secure was 5:30 pm. Any time slot beyond that was gone. There were quite a few choices for the appetizers and I decided on the fried calamari. It came with a spicy tartare sauce. The calamari was some of the very best I've had in NYC thus far! Crunchy on the outside, perfect on the inside and well seasoned. The squeezed lemon on top took it to another level. Highly recommended! There were a plethora of main courses to choose from and I decided on the Le Soleil Burger. Black Angus beef topped with premium short ribs on a sesame brioche with BBQ sauce and fried onions. The burger was juicy and amazing and came out just how I ordered It (medium). The short ribs that topped the burger were so tender and flavorful. The burger came with yummy, crispy garlic fries. For the bottle of wine that comes included with the dinner special, the options were French rosé, red or white wine. I went with the rosé; a cheap, light but lovely rosé wine with slight aromas of summer fruits, pink grapefruit notes and a lingering passion fruit finish. It wasn't top quality, and I wasn't expect so, especially since it's included with their $79 3-course dinner special for two people. It's a great deal regardless. For desserts, the choices were crème brûlée, chocolate mousse and crème caramel. I would've chosen all, if possible, but I went with the crème caramel. It's basically a fancy name for flan soaked in caramel sauce. It was the perfect ending to an amazing dinner! The serving was a nice chunk, light and not overly sweet. I highly recommend a visit here, especially to take advantage of their weekly specials. The food and customer service are top notch! Sidenote: Outside of the restaurant adjacent to the entrance they had a table set up with free warm drinks in two large containers to stay warm and enjoy while you wait to be seated. Not sure if they do this every night, some nights or just during the winter, but it's a wonderful touch regardless. Tonight's offerings were beef consommé and hot apple cider. Though I once had absolutely awful chicken here once, I agreed to go for a late night drink. The bartender didn't know how to make the cocktail my companion requested, and after she tried to give him the recipe (of a very well known cocktail), he was rude and she just asked for a white wine instead. He said "Drink your wine and get out." We tried to complain to the manager (a guy said, "well I guess that's me") and he was defending the bartender. So we just said, "You know what, we'll leave." What a vibe! Dined outdoors here on a Tuesday evening in the pouring rain!! Because of their super cute igloos and outdoor setup the rain wasn't a factor. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the host and escorted to my table. My waiter then came over giving amazing recommendations on Rosé options as well as dinner options. I went with the short rib which was soooooo good. It's accompanied with a cheesy mashed potatoes & served in a cast iron pan. I've never had anything like this before. My friend came here for brunch recently. I was excited to try this place because of their adorable and warm space bubbles for outdoor dining. They were extremely cozy! I was having a tough time deciding between the crab & shrimp salad burger or Nutella pancakes. The waiter recommended the burger, so I ordered that, but thought to ask whether the seafood is served cold on the bun because I really dislike cold seafood. I quickly left the shelter of the space bubble and went in the restaurant to inquire and change my order. I couldn't locate the waiter, so I let the host know that I would like the Nutella pancake and side of garlic french fries. When our waiter returned, I asked if he heard about the change in my order. He had no idea and let me know that he already put in what I initially asked for. I requested that he make sure that the kitchen knows my new order and he did so without a problem. I was served the regular pancakes instead of the Nutella pancakes, so I let the server know. The meal came back with some Nutella plopped on top, but the Nutella pancakes are supposed to come with Nutella between each layer. Finally, I actually got the Nutella pancakes and it was plated beautifully. Three perfectly golden colored and fluffy pancakes with Nutella throughout. On top was half a banana, strawberry, blackberries, walnuts, with drizzles of thick Nutella and sweet strawberry sauce (which mingled together well), along a sprinkling of powdered sugar. The pancakes were still irresistibly warm, delightfully moist, and satisfyingly thick - the way I like them. I loved that the Nutella was spread on each pancake, so there was plenty of it in each bite. The fruit was nice and juicy, adding a fresh element. I think a little bit of maple syrup on top would have made everything come together even more! I'm glad I enjoyed the main course, because the garlic french fries were a huge disappointment. They were basically regular fries with a few pieces of whole garlic thrown on top. There was absolutely no garlic taste permeating the fries and they were served on the cold side. My friend who had the garlic fries with her salmon burger (which looked really good) actually didn't eat any of it. Service was wonderful. The staff was patient, polite, and kind with me with my order change and all my requests, so I definitely appreciate that. However, I'm not sure I would return, because I'm not that curious about anything else on the menu. read more

This restaurant has been featured on IG, TikTok, Facebook etc, for its space bubbles so I had to go check it out. During COVID, it's hard to find places to eat outdoors comfortably in NYC so we were excited to come here! Reservation on OpenTable was easy to book. First, the space bubbles are great! Very cute, you can take great and aesthetic pictures for your social media feed. It's warm - there's a heater inside and the wait staff respect social distancing, they'll talk outside of the space bubble and hand your food without entering the space. However, it's a lot of hype. The food is just okay. We ordered the gnocchi, short ribs with mash potatoes with a side of garlic fries and mushroom soup. Skip the fries - they're average fries with a few pieces of cooked garlic on top. Gnocchi was too doughy, not cooked through. Short ribs were fine - nothing to rave about. For dessert, we ordered their upside down apple tart - pastry was soggy, tasted like canned apples. In general, it's a great experience because of the unique seating outdoors and the ambiance of a French restaurant with French waiters. The service and set up was great with bubble tents and heaters that actually worked! It was almost too warm in there. We all got drinks for brunch, I'm pretty sure the "espresso martini" I ordered lacked the Kahlua and tasted like watered down coffee. The crepes and friends fries however were perfect- we got another order of fries to share for the table. I got the eggs Benedict with salmon! No complaints at all. We were a party of two seated in a bubble. The bubble was actually quite nice. The waiter came over and asked what we wanted. We told him to drinks and an appetizer to start. He came back after a few minutes and told us that if we did not immediately order two main courses, we would have to eat our appetizer quickly and leave. Quite a bad taste to leave in our mouth. There was no mention of any kind of ordering requirements on our reservation beforehand. Plus we never said we weren't going to order main courses. Took a trip waaaay uptown to Cafe Du Soleil after seeing in the news they had igloo seating during covid. First they have done a tremendous job accommodating covid's restrictions. The outdoor dining looked beautiful and had amazing street presence. Things got weird when we arrived, as they didn't have our reservation even after I got a call and confirmed with the restaurant. As for the food, my wife and I ordered a FOS (french onion soup) which was incredible. For main course I got the Soleil burger and my wife ordered pesto gnocci. My burger and frites were pretty cold unfortunately. My wife loved her gnocci, and my Mom and Dad also both enjoyed their meal. Lucky it was my dish that was cold and not others in my family or my wife, which saved me a bunch of bitching, so that's a win. The service was great, but unfortunately we had to end the night early because of the covid 10pm rule (thanks Obama). Overall it was a great experience especially during Covid. read more

The idea of being seated in a bubble is absolutely adorable and a unique take to handle outdoor dining. It's a great experience as you can truly have the space for you and your party. One thing I would say is that the heaters are quite small, so it did get a bit cold. We ordered the Hachis Parmentier and Boudin Noir aux Pommes. The Hachis Parmentier was very good- the beef was extremely tender and dipped in the sauce with cheese and potatoes was delicious. The Boudin Noir was slightly disappointing than what was expected. The blood sausages were great, but I just felt that the green beans and side was a bit bare. Before I go into detail, let me also say we weren't allowed to close the bubble covering because of covid policies.. so there was basically no point of being in the bubble (our opening was facing the sidewalk). My boyfriend and I sat for brunch Sunday Oct. 18. I ordered a croquet which both my boyfriend and I shared. We also shared my margarita. The food tasted good, although quite greasy. However, later in the afternoon we were both experiencing stomach discomfort. I couldn't even hold my dinner down! The next day, Monday, we both had to call out of work. I'm so glad I came here in a date night for dinner. We were in a well heated igloo that was cleaned prior to our arrival. Our server was attentive and also gave us his choices when we asked. Our appetizers & food were good. The Avocat Farci Au Crabe Et Crevettes is the best appetizer ever. My partner got snail and he enjoyed it. The only issue I had was they ran out of skirt steak and settled for NY strip instead. It wasn't bad; however I appreciate thinner steak. Quickest to my table by host. First it was cold, then we barely wanted to eat after waiting for so long. The waiter never came and checked on us, never asked for if we wanted another drink. We got our food, as the table next to us on both sides already order and received dessert. Now the question might be is that we probably got complicated meals, nope! I order the same thing as the daughter did, and they even had to send it back as they didn't want the sauce that comes with it. And my partner got a burger that was just sauce, cheese, bread and patty. We didn't want to order dessert and honestly, we didn't even want to pay or give a tip. This was the worst dinning experience I've had in recent memory. We've lived in the neighborhood the last 20 years. We have come by for years as the food has always been good. More and more we've noticed the service slipping further and further. Rude service, long waits, dirty cutlery, etc. We usually can put this to the side because the food was good. This time we had the service with the face tattoo. It was a busy afternoon so we anticipated some delays. The service came and took our drink order, but then came back 10 minutes later because he forgot. We ordered our food and salads came out right away. After that our server never came back for 45 minutes... neither did our entrees. We tried to waive him down but he was clearly interested in socializing and not service. We finally got the host and asked where our food was after an hour. Turned out it wasn't put it. I understand that these things happen but the server actually got rude with us and said "We are busy, what do you want." He was so dismissive and when we said we come here often but this kind of service would really make us pause in coming back and he responded with "good, don't come back". We walked out and will never be back, but clearly they don't seem to care. Such a shame for a neighborhood spot to slide so far downhill. read more

Okay i want to start by saying the staff here is 5 stars. Absolutely wonderful!! Maître D was very accommodating and made sure we got a bubble outside which honestly made my week! Our waiter was funny and kind and made sure we enjoyed our time! Now I give one star off because I had the Moules (mussels) in a bacon sauce it's called poireaux. Now normally mussels sauce has more garlic but for me personally it lacked that garlic taste and flavor which I personally like. I rather it have less bacon and more garlic. My friend had the half chicken and finished her dish. Also our red wine was delicious. I would definitely want to go and try some of their other dishes!! read more

I ordered the ribeye, the croque madame, and the pain perdu. I will NEVER order or eat in this restaurant again. I specifically asked for my steak to be medium; it was practically well done. How can you make a ribeye chew like leather?? The CM was nothing to write home about. The bread pudding had a balance of raisins but the crème anglaise soaked into everything, but not in a typical bread pudding way. It was dry. My experience wasn't good. For the most part, Sunday brunch was enjoyable on a beautiful day. Ample outdoor seating, all of it underneath scaffolding which has been decorated.... which provided the needed shade. Service was attentive, and unhurried. We were a party of 4, no adult beverages were ordered. Unfortunately, the coffee was undrinkable. I tried to switch to decaf, but apparently it is not served at this restaurant. (Was not charged for the coffee.) My vegetable quiche was lacking vegetables, I almost thought I received the quiche lorraine instead. At some point I realized that the vegetables were diced and on the bottom only.... in a thin layer just about the size of the crust layer. A fellow diner ordered a hamburger medium, and to me it looked barely rare. Another diner ordered the omelet, no complaints. And the French toast looked amazing.
