While I'm not normally a fan of non-Japanese owned businesses in Little Tokyo, I will argue with you that Dulce belongs here. First off, I'll start with what I love here--my go-to drinks are the Dulce latte (with latte art!) and the blueberry matcha latte. Both can be enjoyed hot or cold, but if you're really going for something different, I'd recommend the blueberry matcha! I'm not a big matcha person, but the floral blueberry taste is so overwhelmingly wonderful that I'm happy to knock these back!! I'm not a huge fan of their mocha iced, but it's great hot. In the realm of desserts, the chocolate creamy donut is my go-to pair with coffee if I'm on a chocolate kick, or the koko churro if I'm feeling more cinnamon-y! With tea, I don't normally get anything, but if you're feeling some typa way I'd go for the cute little strawberry cream donut--not too sweet, but so adorable! If you didn't know they also serve savory foods (sandwiches, salads, and more!) then you're missing out! The pesto chicken sandwich is my favorite: fresh with flavors that marry well and a really awesome side salad, it's pretty tough to find anything better. I'm a wimp so to my dismay, the spicy Korean cheesesteak is a bit overwhelming, but definitely worth a try. Lastly, the support and love Dulce gives to the Little Tokyo community is the real cherry on top. Alongside other historic businesses, Dulce sets up a special shop for Nisei Week to bring a more festive vibe to the JVP, selling specials that you can only get for these two weekends such as the sausage donut WHICH YOU NEED TO TRY! They have three kinds : spirulina (with peanuts inside), KoKo, and tapioca. Don't choose one, get all three! The churro is crunchy on the outside, fluffy and chewy on the inside - a perfect churro texture! On the other side, the roti bun (I tried the bluberry, coffee, pumpkin, and green tea), is not as worth a mention as the churro. Cafe Dulce has great donuts. I just wish they had a bigger selection. We tried the Oreo, maple macadamia, and the creamy, and all were equally good. There's nothing particularly fancy about these donuts as they are really just glazed donuts with different toppings on them. But the combination of flavors that I tasted were well thought out and yummy. The coffee, however, was excellent. Had a decaf moca and I swear as I write this review that that was quite possibly the best moca I've ever had. Nice friendly people in a clean environment. Unfortunately, Cafe Dulce is not a place you could stop and get a quick donut and coffee. Most likely this place would be optimal for people passing through or who work in the area. When I went to Los Angeles my hotel was in Little Tokyo, which is surrounded by such great restaurants. I had a good friend tell me about Cafe Dulce, so I immediately placed it on my list. I got three items when I went there. 1. Green Tea Roti 2. Bacon Donut 3. Latte The roti had the perfect amount of sweetness and green tea taste. The bacon donut was pretty good, but I felt like it was too salty. Once I took some of the bacon off it was a lot better. The latte made everything go down smoothly. This is my favorite go-to café for drinks for whenever I'm in DTLA or Little Tokyo. The shop itself is small, but it always seems to be so popular that medium-long lines are of the norm during peak hours. It's no surprise, since their donuts and lattes are relatively cheap for something of good quality and taste. I particularly LOVE to order the iced blueberry matcha latte. I have not yet come across another café shop that serves such a drink, so it's definitely a unique must-try for when you come and visit! I've become quite a fan of Café Dulce and it's prime location in the heart of Little Tokyo. Café Dulce has become a routine stop for days I need my caffiene (or sugar) fix. Seasonal Favorite: AO Lemonade (do, do, get this when available) Asides from the coffee -- So, what sets Café Dulce apart from any other cafe in the vicinity? 1) I appreciate having options, albeit as long as its not too overwhelming and maintains its quality. Sometimes I enjoy just doing a grab and go, quickly order a Dulce Latté or Blueberry Matcha Latté and promptly be out. Other times I like to have a Café Au Lait and sit window side watching busy pedestrians scurry by; possibly paired with one of Cafe Dulce's intriguing pastries. This place hands down has one of the best green tea breads I've ever tasted. The green tea roti is AMAZING and life changing. It's SOOOO good. It has the perfect balance of matcha taste and is not overly sweet or bitter. The green tea roti had a melted butter filling which meshed so well with the bun. I loved it so much that I could not stop raving about it. I also got the matcha latte which also had a perfect balance of sweetness and matcha. The green tea donut was also one that the workers (who were so sweet by the way) said were popular. The green tea donut had less of a strong matcha flavor and was not overly sweet. It was good but the green tea roti was just so amazing that eating the donut after did not have as much of a reaction from me. I don't think I would get the donut again but I would definitely recommend the green tea roti and matcha latte. I like the food and the drinks are good too. The baristas can do basic latte art and presentation for all of their items are pretty. I like the side salad they give with their sandwiches and I'm pretty sure you can get it as an entree but also there is always just like one piece of mango and one piece of tomato lol cost control. They have a pretty cool ambience and the staff is pretty chill. I haven't had any specifically really good experiences, but I haven't had any bad ones either so there's something good about consistency in quality of food and service so gotta applaud them for that. read more
