Super cute spot with a cozy atmosphere. There are about five tables inside along with some benches outside. Parking is metered street parking. We ordered the Mango Coco Shokupan Toast, Mango Sticky Rice, Latte Swaple, and the Matcha Einspanner. Service took a little while, but the staff were very nice. The drinks were definitely the highlight for me. I loved the cream top on both drinks, and both tasted really good! I'd definitely come back just for those. The shokupan toast was also good with sweet mangoes, soft bread, and ice cream that paired really well together. The mango sticky rice was decent too. We got it without ice cream, and while the mangoes were a bit tart, the rice texture itself was really good. Overall, a good experience and not a bad spot at all!

    Matcha einspänner

3-1/2 stars (round up to 4 for solid service) Came for a post-lunch drink and opted for the matcha einspänner. A bit pricey at over $9 for a 12-ounce, and unfortunately was way too milk-forward and not enough matcha taste. While not the best matcha einspänner I've had, Cafe Franca is a cute little spot perhaps worth trying for its meals and desserts.

Pandan Kaya toast, Spicy Tomyum Shrimp Avocado
    Rebecca N.

Friend saw this new cafe opened up on TikTok, and the menu looked enticing... What we tried: - Pandan kaya shokupan toast ($16): 4.5/5, unique and really tasty, would get this again! Loved the contrast between the cold ice cream and warm toast. Was a bit heavy, so good to share w/ 2 people. - Shokupan spicy tomyum shrimp avocado sandwich ($14): 4/5, the bread was honestly the main highlight (so yummy, can't find it everywhere), and maybe the avocado. There was very little shrimp, though overall it was still decently tasty. I think their shokupan is what makes them stand out - their homemade Japanese-style fluffy bread - and I'd come back to try other items on the menu! Seating is a bit limited, but it wasn't full on a Thursday afternoon.

Thai tea toast - soooo good, wow!

What a wonderful little Thai brunch and coffee place on Sawtelle!! It's away from the busiest part of the neighborhood, which means it's pretty easy to find free street parking and not feel rushed or crowded. Totally worth going the few extra blocks toward Santa Monica if you're in the area. I've been here a couple of times to get coffee - my favorite is the Sunshine Latte, which has such a bright and refreshing citrus flavor while the coffee still stands out in perfect balance. The foam top is delicious, and I always enjoy the slice of charred orange on top as a little extra treat. Recently had the pleasure of trying their food as well on a brunch date with my wife, and it did not disappoint! We had the spicy shrimp udon and the brekkie set. The udon was a bit too spicy for my weak tolerance but my wife very much enjoyed it. I loved the brekkie set - Hearty eggs and meat, warm toast, and such a cute presentation that even included fresh squeezed orange juice. It was very filing. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing with plenty of natural light and free, fast WiFi. There are some outlets too. The highlight for me was the Thai tea flavor shokupan toast. Just wow... The bread was soooo good. They make it fresh in-house!! The balance of flavors was incredible with the Thai tea mousse on top of the bread adding sweetness, the refreshing coconut ice cream, and the salty-sweet-crunchy crumbles on top. Truly a divine experience tbh. I can't wait to try the other flavors. The owners are so sweet, and it's clear they put a ton of love and care into crafting this charming little cafe. It's a fantastic addition to the Sawtelle neighborhood!

Breakfast Congee and GOOD GOD is tasty!

This is a cute little spot on Sawtelle with a niche menu! My husband and I ordered a coconut coffee and a coconut matcha. Both were delicious and they use a high high grade matcha so I'm pretty JACKED right now! The shop is small and has a cute record bar with electric blue tables to chill at! We ordered the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and the egg bread is made in hose and is so simple and well put together! You'll leave full! I ordered the breakfast congee and let me tell you, IT WAS THE BEST DECISION! A breakfast congee is tasty, it's not overpowered with garlic or ginger. The ratio of all ingredients was the best and now I have to learn how to make it! The service was also incredible, it appeared only two people were running the shop and both were so kind and communicative! I think this is a small gem here in LA and it's worth a shot!

Delicious!! Me and my sisters favorite breakfast brunch spot. Always have to get the tomyum udon!!

    Coconut matcha foam
    Tiffany Y.

New spot in Sawtelle with Thai food, drinks, and desserts! I was excited to try the Coconut Matcha Foam especially since it was a non dairy option and it didn't disappoint, foam held up well too, though a bit pricey at $8. I also tried the creme brûlée donut, which was $8, I liked the crème brûlée top and cream filling, but not worth $8. Hope to come back to try the congee and other Thai dishes and desserts!

    Bacon Egg Cheese Sandwich

I don't write reviews ever but Cafe Franca has my heart! I love that they use layered white toast so much that I think about the bacon egg cheese and Thai chicken satay sandwiches all the time. Guilty, but I think I might have stopped by 3 times in one week before... They also have an incredibly nice, warm and lovely staff, Benny's awesome!! Honorary mention: Tom Yum Sandwich For drinks, the must gets for me are the matcha einspanner and latte swaple!! I would say the matcha quality and coffee is pretty underrated here, so I would highly recommend trying it out! There's also wifi, so it's a cute little spot to work as well!

Amazing Breakfaat and perfectly balanced Coffee The flavors were so good and unique. Highly recommend. I'll definitely be back!‍

matcha einspanner and pandan kaya toast
    Soren K.

got the matcha einspanner and the pandan kaya toast! overall, loved the toast and they were generous with the cream, which i feel like a lot of places skimp out on. the crumble added a nice texture and the coconut strings were also a fun touch. i split it with my friend and it was enough for the both of us. for the einspanner, the matcha was high quality and it had a strong flavor which i liked. however, if you like your matcha a bit sweeter like i do, keep in mind that this one was less sweet, but i still enjoyed it! the service was also so good and friendly!! they gave us water and checked to see if everything was good. they have a cute seating area inside as well. had a great experience!

    Breakfast today!

Noticed a new cafe on Sawtelle and had to go!! It was so fun. I ordered breakfast and coffee and enjoyed everything! Delicious egg, sausage and toast - listening to great music and soaking in the sunshine. Nice Mediterranean vibe in the decor. Very kind and polite folks working there. Go and I bet you'll be happy you did!

Cute place, nice vibe, great green tea, and a perfectly creamy cheesecake.

We enjoyed the naan & dips (tahini tofu, carrot 'hummus'), and they offered corn chips for my friend to enjoy because she is gluten-free. For my entree, I had the sticky glazed fried maitake mushroom, and OMG, was it worth every penny! The dish was so flavorful and nothing like I've ever had! It was my friend's birthday, so we also ordered dessert. I had the mango sorbet, it was soooo smooth and refreshing! Our servers, food runners, and bartenders were so kind and raved about the Chef. It is clear they are all a well-oiled machine and enjoy working together as a team. The restaurant was clean, and the entire vibe of the restaurant was charming. I loved all the live plants and decor! I can not wait to go back!

Even though my partner and I had a reservation that we showed up on time for, we waited 30 minutes to be seated. That wait time is pretty outrageous considering we reserved a table for 30 minutes earlier. Once seated, we noticed that the staff were extremely slow and inattentive. It took a while for us to get some water and even longer to get our food. The pacing between dishes was ludicrous. The food here is the saving grace for the disappointing service. We started off with the naan & dips. The dips were tahini tofu and carrot hummus. I liked the tahini tofu dip much more than the carrot hummus. It was creamy, nutty, and savory. The naan was fresh and nicely charred. Next we had the goat liver mousse. This included crumpets, biscuit crackers, craisin relish, seasonal jam, and of course, goat liver mousse. The crackers were too dry for me, but I really enjoyed the warm crumpets. All of the spreads were equally good. The goat live mousse itself was smooth and light. For the main courses, we shared the grilled kalbi-style short ribs and pork belly noodles. The short ribs were covered in a sweet-savory sauce and had a deep caramelization, while the meat was tender and juicy. As for the pork belly noodles, the overall flavor was too salty, but the glass noodles had a nice texture. Throughout our entire meal, there was a fly that kept trying to fly onto our food. It was very annoying to deal with. I was surprised that it was even an issue, considering we had indoor seating. I would have understood if only we were seated outside. Ultimately, I did not leave with a great impression of this restaurant. On top of that, there isn't any designated parking lot, so you'll be lucky if you can even find street parking. If not, you'll need to use one of the paid lots nearby. Also, beware that this restaurant adds a surcharge to all checks regardless of party size.

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

I got an omelette and it was fresh and light, but very small for the price and no bread included. Now for the rest, the service was appalling. Food came out quickly but after that we were barely checked on. We had to ask several times for things that we ordered and had to flag down the waitress to order a second drink and they took forever. We could understand that it was busy but the waitress never apologized or said anything like they were understaffed or anything. Also, we had a few questions about the menu and our drinks and the waitress would just say, "I think so?" or give a vague answer. She didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu at all. Maybe she was new, but clearly training was lacking. I don't think I'll be returning but since I see many reviews relating to service issues, hopefully management is able to address the deficit
