A small and quick French inspired bistro in Westwood. It's not a full service restaurant, you order at the counter, they give you a number, and then they bring the food to your table. Inside is not very large and the tables are pretty close together, so it would not be suited for large groups. Service was very fast so if you were in a rush, this is the sort of place to stop, but also many were sitting in and working so you don't have to rush out if you don't want to. The server behind the counter was polite and everything that we ordered came out fairly fast. Parking in this area can be a bit of a pain. The best option will be metered street parking or one of the plots. For this visit, I chose the Croque Monsieur and enjoyed it. I opted for the turkey instead of the ham and thought it was a nice change. I would like them to use more beschemel sauce and toasted the meat or bread a bit more but still, it was enjoyable. I would suggest adding avocado as well. Overall, a quick inconvenient option in Westwood. read more

I needed to park myself in this area for a little bit and needed a spot to work so I ventured here to give it a try. The inside is gorgeous in an old fashioned kind of way. Sure, this place could use a face-lift but what you see is what this place was awhile back. I like that it sits on the corner and its quite spacious inside, so you will find students parked in here doing work. There are tables with outlets, but you def need to keep your eyes open. I like that there was some space to sprawl out here. I enjoyed coming here but would have to say the ube latte with banana foam was probably one of the worst things I have had in a long time. Id come back here but I would pass on that drink and find something else. The Turkish coffee might be the trick here. read more

Over the years, I've hit up a lot of eateries in the Westwood area, but I never got around to visiting this spot until very recently. What finally compelled me to try this place out was that it didn't look all that busy inside when I walked by the establishment one morning around 10:00am. I didn't try a lot of things from their menu. Just their Bacon and Egg Sandwich and Croissant. The sandwich was good, but I could have done without the salsa like tomato relish inside the sandwich. The croissant was nice and buttery. I enjoyed it a lot. As for the service, it was solid. It's one of those restaurants where you pay up front and they bring the food to you. I appreciated that the food came out very quickly. Not going to say this place blew me away, but I think it's worth giving it a try. read more

I always try to say something nice. Very nice atmosphere and people. That said, they should feel embarrassed to call themselves a French café! I had been here once before and had good coffee and an OK sandwich. Was craving a decadent breakfast. Kind of had my heart set on quiche, but they don't serve quiche. OK, really? French café? So the next most decadent thing I saw was the Croque monsieur. You would think a French café would know that a Croque monsieur is topped with a beautiful thick and creamy Beschamel sauce and then browned under a broiler. This was a few slices of ham between overly thick slices of dry bread (No mayo. No mustard. No butter.) with some barely melted cheese on top. Believe me when I tell you, I am always rooting for the restaurant to be great. This was not, and they need to go back and take pride in what they're doing. read more

Drinks and food are mid, pricey for how it tastes and the quality. However, the ambiance is great for studying and I appreciate how there are a lot of seats with outlets nearby, as well as it stays open late compared to other cafes. The only negative experience I've had was being told to leave by a staff member because there were other customers, but nobody else was asked and I was deep in studying. As it's located where it's predominantly UCLA students living around there, doesn't make sense to make a student leave? But that the only time that happened. The Elysee Bakery and Cafe has one of those names which entices people to checkout their business-- I'm one of them. This Sunday I decided to take a look at what this business has to offer. This Cafe and Bakery is probably more of a University student hangout than anything else as it is in the main corridor of the UCLA campus. As you can imagine there's a lot of cafe competition choices for the students in this location so I was expecting a lot more quality from this place. The inside the cafe has a ok feeling although it's a bit of an awkward location from an ordering standpoint as you're basically lining up on the street if there's 2 or 3 people in front of you. The seating capacity is pretty good with a mix of different types of French styled tables and chairs but decor wise the walls and general cleanliness looked old and in need of a deep clean. Once I got to the order counter (it was a bit of a struggle) I ordered a breakfast sandwich, a special omelette and a cafe latte. Upon completion I was given an order number and went to find a table. After 10 minutes or so I was wondering where my Latte was-- I didn't realize that they don't bring your latte to your table -- although they bring your food -- which was odd and very annoying especially as it was only warm when I picked it up. Food wise I'd have to report there's no love in place -- hugely disappointing both on taste and presentation-- I honestly thought I was eating boring bread with some sort of tasteless filling so they need to improve this. As for the omelette which I specifically ordered from their website-- I'd have to say it was pretty awful. Not did they mess up my order but it tasted like low grade eggs and ingredients were used. Needless to say I won't be making a return to this cafe for obvious reasons. read more

My neighbor, mother, and I were heading home and craving a coffee and treat. We were parked on the side of a road and a woman carrying multiple boxes of desserts and a delicious-looking coffee walked by. She told us her treats were from Elysee up the block. We walked in and a girl greeted us immediately. She was very sweet and patient while we browsed. I ordered a mocha, a tiramisu, and fries. The fries were wonderful. They were shoe-string and had the perfect amount of crisp and softness. The tiramisu was decadent and not overly sweet. I'm also impressed with the chocolate used in the mocha. It was great. The manager was so attentive and did everything to make our dinner a nice experience despite the fact that the place was full of inconsiderate people occupying tables with their computers and book bags interminably. My son and I had to sit at a little round table with two chairs and we saw at least three customers peek their heads in and walk out cuz it was so full. One inconsiderate schmuck even took two tables and four chairs with his crap, leaving it there while he went to another place to get food, only to return and take his place after eating and not getting anything at the place whose table he was occupying I feel so bad for this place, they gotta keep it open and are kind enough not to boot people, but I don't know how they can keep the place open like this. read more

Well, the outside of this cafe is really cute and it's what drew me in. Unfortunately the customer service was pretty bad. The girl who took my order just had a bad attitude for no reason, I could tell from the get go she was just rude. When I asked for a milk substitute she said "this is not a Starbucks" because the drink I ordered apparently didn't have milk in it which I clearly didn't know. But that's fine, I can appreciate a good cup of coffee or espresso for its taste alone. Anyways, the macchiato I ordered in and of itself was fine. I think this establishment gains points due to its indoor amenities. For starters, it has a nice interior that is aesthetically pleasing. Second, it's a great study spot for UCLA students. There is free wifi and it's easy to spend hours there just sitting, looking out the big glass window, and having a leisurely morning. I've been here a few times and the brunch, pastries, cakes, and lunches have always hit the spot. This time I got brunch of a caprese omelette. It comes with breakfast potatoes and a bun. The omelette was good, but the highlight were the potatoes. I almost wish I had asked if I could sub the bun for more potatoes because they were just perfectly crispy and creamy. I also got the cafe mocha. It was good and very creamy. The tables are sometimes hard to come by, but if you wait a bit, one will usually open up. This place always seems popular in Westwood so I wanted to try it out for breakfast before work. Was able to get free metered parking before 8am during the week. Was able to walk right in and order, youre given a number and then you find an open table. I thought they would have a lot more options available and pastry products on display. Not sure of the ones available were left over from the day before but there weren't many to choose from. I did get the chocolate chip scone which was good. Latte was a latte. Breakfast sandwhich was a disappointment. There was more bread than anything. I wouldn't order again and would try something different if I came back. read more

Their coffee is really good, not acidic and has that deep roast/nutty essence to it. Their cakes are also delicious, they're pretty big so I usually split it with someone.
