First time here for breakfast and I LOVE the bacon empanada. Breakfast empanada was a close 2nd. Also got the dulce de leche latte which was delightful - sweet but not too sweet compared to other lattes I've had recently. The people working at the front answered all my questions and brought everything out so quick. The place itself has a nice relaxing vibe- I just sat and read my book for an hour or so. It was also really clean- which I only noticed after seeing how quickly they cleaned up the tables. I never left a review for the lunch I had here the first time, but it was also very good. I'd recommend coming here for a nice breakfast/lunch- you can stay and enjoy OR get in and out very quick. Try out some of the menu items you might not recognize- I'm glad I did. read more

Stumbled across this gem and ended up eating here three times in five days. The atmosphere is a vibe, the people working here are a vibe, and both the empanadas and spiced mocha were the best I've had in my life. And I'm almost 50. That's a lot of mochas and empanadas. The best part is the story of the place. We read it on their website while we were waiting for our coffees and it made the experience even more incredible. We were excited to check this case out bc the corn bread and empanadas looked delectable. However, we were disappointed by the price and taste. Each empanada is $10 and is the size of your palm. I got the beef brisket empanada and it was a little dry. The beef sope (corn bread) didn't have as much meat as we expected. And the beef croquettes didn't have as much meat or potato as I was expecting, it tasted like there was more bread inside. The highlights were the chimichurri sauce and the iced chai latte. The chimichurri sauce was fresh and paired really well with the foods, made them taste so much better. The chai latte with oat milk was delicious. Would definitely order it again for a morning pick me up. This cafe is super cute with fresh, real flowers at every table. Such a cute and cozy little cafe in Monterey. Whether you're visiting or live around here, I would totally recommend trying this place out! The best coffee i've had at any cafe in Monterey. The food selection is sparse so definitely not your "brunch spot" but with 10/10 recommend going here. The brisket empanada is just way above the rest in flavor, the bacon egg and cheese was fine but i wish i just got 2 brisket. The latte was the star. One of my favorite places every time I visit! The empanadas, any filling, never disappoint, and their chimichurri is just right--so fresh and balanced. I am a sucker for anything with guava, so I'm obviously going to love it here. A guava tart and a hot pour-over coffee, and life is good, qué no? The little garden patio in the back is charming, with umbrellas for shade and a hammock. Service is impeccable. I always get frozen empanadas to take home, too--I wish I could somehow pack up all of Cafe Guarani to bring home with me. read more

I spot through Yelp, we checked it out before heading to the beach and got some food from there. The place is authentic and beautiful, the outside is good where you can sit and feel the fresh air. For our food we got Empanadas, I don't like empanadas as much but this one was great and delicious!! We got Brisket, Pull Pork, Chicken & Beef. Crunchy form the outside. Then we got Dulce De Leche cookies which is the BEST thing ever! Before hitting the road I got some Dulce De Leche latte and that was great coffee! The owner is really nice and we came back to get coffee even though it was closed, he was nice enough to let us use the bathroom and purchase a drink. I will come back whenever we pass by. read more

I liked: Iced Chai Great flavor on the iced chai but I wish they filtered out some of the grittiness. We stopped by after lunch otherwise I would have loved to try their empanadas. We stumble d across Cafe Guaraní while waiting for one of the other local shops to open. We were warmly greeted right away and we opted for a late, iced acai mate and beef empanada. Everything was delicious and fresh, I haven't had a good empanada in a long time and they were able to remedy that! The chimchurri is a nice fresh addition but honestly it doesn't need it as it's amazing all alone. I ordered the vanilla bean coffee with almond milk in a small size so there's more espresso & it was so good. My friend ordered the guatemalan mocha & it took her awhile to drink it 'cause she doesn't want to mess up the pretty design , but she said there's a bit bitterness to it & it's good as well. For Paraguayan people find something from their country around here is something amazing. And this place has everything you can dream about it. Food is delicious and authentic. The owner is super friendly and attentive. The place and decorations is like a house in Paraguay. Fresh ,inviting, comfortable and full of plants inside and outside. The most typically food are the empanadas even though they don't have fried ones they are baked but tasty. Super well filled. Good size. And if you want to try something different you need to try the mbeju it's something very traditional and yummy. Also the huge selection of sweet stuff it's so hard to choose so i decided to bring home a box of selection. People in Monterey are so lucky to have this cute cafe in their direct neighborhood. As we were looking for something quick to eat as a light snack and quench our thirst, this cafe seemed like the perfect spot for us to spend 30 minutes in the early sunny afternoon on a beautiful Tuesday. The young man behind the ordering counter was very accommodating and welcoming (he also had a very impressive mullet!!) We got us a beef empanada, alfajore, two iced drinks. He said there is/was a nice patio area in the back so we, of course, went there to secure our spot as he said he'd bring our food and drinks. The patios is nicely secluded with walls where the whole area has a quiet atmosphere. The furniture and decorations are all cute to match the store's image. The beef empanada that came with whatever the sauce was a good size and delicious. I can appreciate stores that have great empanadas. The sweetness of alfajore was just right and it was a good size for us to share. This is a great spot. It is away from the busy Cannery Row but can be easily accessed. If you want to stay away from the hustle bustle of touristy area but want to have some quality time, food and tea/coffee drinks with great atmosphere I suggest that you come here. read more

I take back my previous review. After my third visit, I will not be coming back. How sad that they ruin it for a potentially loyal customer. After calling YESTERDAY about when they make their monkey bread, the rude employee on the phone said "every morning"... so I say "awesome because I'd love to come by tmrw morning for some!" She didn't mention how it could take them an extra 30 mins after opening to actually have them. And so I show up when they open, and the monkey bread is from the day prior "it'll be another 30 mins for the fresh ones." Come on. I was honestly baffled by this place. The prices were astronomical for the tiniest portions I've ever seen. The pastries looked pretty behind the glass but turned out to be dry and almost completely flavorless. I ended up paying around $20 for an x-small hot chocolate so sweet it could send the average person into diabetic shock, plus two dry pastries that weren't worth finishing. What really made my jaw drop was the empanada priced at $9. For a café with such a charming exterior and promising menu, it felt like the experience was all about presentation and none of it translated to actual quality or value. Monterey has so many great spots, but sadly, this isn't one of them. The service was good, the ambiance was pretty, but the flavors need some work. read more

Came here while waiting for our reservations at Vivolo Chowder house. It's a cute little Paraguana Cafe that serves empanadas, coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. I only ordered a matcha latte and it came out really good. It wasn't watered down, it had the right amount of milk and a good amount of matcha. The barista even made a cute little flower design. Stopped in for empanadas after a day at the aquarium. There is a cute little seating area inside as well as a very nice patio out back. We ordered a dozen empanadas and a drink each. The empanadas took about 20 minutes to bake but our drinks were brought out quickly. They have mate tea which my sister loved and my mom is now obsessed with their chai latte. The chai was good but in my opinion was not spicy enough (personal taste though). When the empanadas came out, we were also given extra trays for each person and chimichurri sauce. My favorite was the pork but they were honestly all delicious! A little pricy as far as empanadas go, but I was quite full after 1.5 of them. read more

The chai latte had great flavor to it and the foam was nice and frothy.
