I came here with a friend to study on a Sunday evening around 5:30pm! It was decently busy, and I noticed other customers were similarly getting work done (it's definitely a good space for that). While looking at the menu, I was shocked to see that a boba shop also had a happy hour with alcoholic items! I was definitely curious and would want to come back to try those. I ended up getting a honey milk tea ($7) with boba. It was so yummy, the sweetness was perfect and there was a good amount of boba with good texture. Next to the cashier was some baked goods that I really wanted to try, the bolo bao looked especially tasty! The service here was so friendly. All of my questions were answered so kindly! There's two wifi networks, but choose the one with no password :) definitely come by with some work!! The food was really good! The venue is nice, but it is HOT. The boba slushes are also a bit pricey.

It is great to see Cafe Happy is serving hot vegan food again. Same great taste as it was in Kirkland, but at a much, much larger space with plenty of tables and chairs. Both the ma po tofu and chicken broccoli were excellent. The location is less busy than the main University Avenue area, so it is easier to find close by parking if you drive. It is of course very close to main campus of UW. Keep in mind that everything is cook to order, and is created by one person behind the counter. Be patient and you will be rewarded with the best vegan Chinese food in town. It is a great place to hang out with friends or just get a drink, some food, and study away. read more

Sadly, this place has gone downhill since moving from Kirkland. I absolutely loved getting their Taiwanese egg sandwich at every visit, but I haven't been able to at their newer location in University District because each time I've gone they are either closed during their listed business hours or are not serving food when they are open. Today was the last straw for me after my 4th attempt. It's unfortunate because it was one of my favorite places to eat at their old location where I never encountered these issues. read more

There was no line and I was able to order a delicious cherry blossom themed milk tea with boba - this was a special for the U District cherry blossom festival. The cherry flavor was not overwhelming and it paired nicely with the classic milk tea. If I'm in the area I'd definitely come here again to try their other drinks. read more

The only restaurant in greater Seattle area that offers made-to-order vegan Taiwanese dishes with homemade, proprietary Taiwanese soy meat (vegetable based protein). I really love their food and enjoy it at least once a week. I was a huge fan of their restaurant in Kirkland since 1995! So glad the University District location opened after the Kirkland store closed. The people who work there are super nice, friendly and accommodating. My favorite dishes that I highly recommend for anyone loving one-of-a-kind vegan food: 1) Soy Meat Stir Fry with Vegetables - Cafe Happy has perfected the art of stir-fry. All the vegetables are cooked to a consistent yummy texture (not too soft, not undercooked). The sauce is yummy and does not contain MSG (really important!). The mix of vegetables is broccoli, carrots, zucchini and cabbage. No onions, garlic, or peppers. The soy meat is their proprietary creation and I can't find it anywhere else. Comes with perfectly cooked rice. 2) Spicy Club Fries - the name doesn't reflect the actual ingredients, there are no potatoes, no fries. Just their proprietary soy meat, julienned with carrots, zucchini and a spicy sauce (you can specify 1 star). I don't like food that is too spicy and I can tolerate the spice here. I love this dish! It comes with rice. 3) Soy Chicken with Broccoli - their proprietary soy chicken that they make in house and stir fry with broccoli. This is a good dish if you don't want any spice at all in your sauce. I always ordered this dish for a long time until my taste buds changed and I prefer the slightly spicy sauces. 4) Soy Beef Noodle - their proprietary house made soy ground beef cooked in a Taiwanese flavored tomato based sauce served over noodles and steamed spinach. Yummy! The Kirkland restaurant offered a lot more dishes that I deeply miss and only hope the U District store might offer in the future. As for the Bobas and smoothies, they are gooood. Even my picky teenager likes them. I especially like the Cherry flavored boba, soooo unique, not really offered anywhere else. read more

Cafe Happy has a minimalistic atmosphere- white tables, white walls, and trendy modern lights all around the seating area. It makes for good late night study spot. So far I've gotten a HONEY BOBA milk tea and a MATCHA BOBA milk tea from here. The guy who works the evening shift is very friendly and is willing to remake your drink if the sugar ratio doesn't meet your expectations. I always tell him light sugar and light ice when I order, and he's made them perfectly both times. The tapioca pearls are chewy and have a smooth texture overall. It's nice that the boba is included in the price too ($3.50 for a medium with boba is a decent price). I have to say that the honey milk tea has a stronger tea taste than the matcha, but both were tasty overall. My roommate though tried this place a few weeks later and was disappointed by her taro boba because it tasted watery. I guess the quality varies, but I've had a good experience so far. Service is prompt in the evening; there's never a line. I've walked by in the daytime too and the line tends to be short on most days. I can't say Cafe Happy is my first choice for bubble tea, but it's definitely convenient if you happen to be in the West Campus area. Overall: 3.5/5 drinks, 5/5 service, 5/5 atmosphere read more

Cafe Happy, as cliche as it sounds, makes me happy! Stopped in midday to do some work, and I was the only one in the store. The store interior is sleek and minimalistic, and I loved the pops of green from the hanging plants. The cafe also has a couple of board games available, which would be great to entertain a bigger group. I got the iced jasmine green honey tea, which came in a cute cup. I stayed for a few hours, and the cashier was super nice--I asked if they could lower the music a bit and he kindly obliged. There are also lots of outlets near the seating area. The only downside was that there was no AC. I would definitely return for good service and good ambience, and I want to try out some of the vegetarian entrees! read more

First time here after seeing it was open. I usually give 1-2 stars to places I wouldn't come back to. This place looked nice on the inside, very large and quiet. Good place to study. The drinks was okay, one drink came with boba when we asked not to. The drinks we got was og milk tea and chocolate milk tea. They tasted the same, they both tasted like chocolate powder. Needed a place to work on a project and my friend suggested we came here. ENVIRONMENT- I love the interior design of this place! Very modern and elegant. A spacious place to do work or catch up with a friend over some drinks and snacks. Definitely one of the prettier cafes I've been to. FOOD- I ordered a cold matcha milk tea and was honestly a bit shocked. It tasted more of matcha water. There was barely any sweetness or milk/cream to it. And although it wasn't disgusting, it was misleading. It really did taste like matcha water. I heard good things about the ginger milk tea so that's something I'll have to try when I visit next time. All of their drinks are made from other powder or syrup, and although I'm not a fan of milk tea made from powder or syrup, the matcha milk tea was okay. But I'm not sure if I would call it milk tea. Cafe Happy Atmosphere There are lots of windows which let in natural light and opens up the space. They also have plants throughout the place. When we went it was very quiet. There are lots of tables so you should have a place to sit if it ever becomes busy, and they're spread out so that you wouldn't be bumping into people as you try to navigate the place. What did we try? Lavishly Lavender milk tea with regular boba. This drink is the perfect amount of sweetness. However, it tasted very faintly of lavender and tea which was kind of disappointing. I personally would have liked a stronger lavender flavor. The boba, in my opinion, was the star of the drink. It was the perfect amount of chewiness. They also provide you with rice crackers with the drink. I don't think it goes with the drink but that's not a bad thing. Overall, the drink was okay. SERVICE The workers here are super friendly and enthusiastic. My friend and I were the only ones in here so the workers offered to change the music to our likings. It was a considerate offer. While we were sitting, the employees would check up on us to see if we were still doing okay. That's something I don't really experience at boba places so that was an added bonus. Not a fan at all. I ordered a strawberry banana mango boba smoothie and it tasted like pure artificial sugar syrup and ice. I definitely tasted no banana or strawberry. The mango was the only thing I could taste, and was for sure an artificial syrup. In addition, the drink came with no boba in it. This is called a boba smoothie??? But it comes with no boba? Def the worst bubble tea drink I've ever had. It tasted like the melted contents of a snow cone from a carnival. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone who likes good bubble tea. Happy Cafe was great! The owner was pleasant, friendly And happily greeted me. The business was clean, has plenty of seating, beautiful marble tables, large open windows for people watching. It looks like a nice place to study, relax during a break or to invite friends to play board games. Overall, it seems the concept and design of the cafe was well thought out. Came here around 11:30 pm with a friend, and there was only one person working. It was quite busy, and we ended up waiting a super long time to get our orders taken- and it also took a long time to get our drinks. However, the person who was working was extremely nice and friendly even though he was so busy taking orders and making everyone's drinks! I really appreciated him. However, since they seem to be short staffed, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who just wants to drop by quickly. It is more of a sit-down location. The drinks were so good! I got a fruit tea and my friend got a smoothie, and both of them were really delicious. My only complaint about the drinks is that the boba was a little undercooked and also not sweetened. read more

This is an AMAZING study spot if you are a UW student... if you don't buy anything. I know there plenty of rich tech bros in Seattle but I am not one of them... yet. Cafe Happy clearly did not know that because why was my little green smoothie (shown in picture) over $10?? Instead of adding a tip option, the tip is automatically included. Like please, if I'm going to tip, I want to feel like I did my good deed for the day. Automatic tipping makes me want to do bad things. Great study spot but I didn't study well because the gaping hole in my soul caused by my lack of $10 was siphoning my attention for the duration of my stay. I know I may sound pretty bummy right now and believe me, I would be fine with a $10 drink IF it tasted exceptional and was a decent size but this was small and tasted the same as when I toss some frozen fruit into my portable blend jet. Came here for a study date. It was clean, well-lit, and... expensive. The menu on the wall said milk tea with boba would be a dollar or two cheaper than it ended up being, I think they raised the price and didn't change the menu. The second drink (a smoothie, admittedly) took a lot longer to come out even though it was ordered first but did eventually come out. I would probably go to boba gem instead- it was good, there are just so many boba places in such a close area that there are better options. They played good music though, and it wasn't too loud which makes it a good study spot. read more

Cute space for studying - but their drinks are not good. The space is big with nice decor and has lots of tables and games, making it a great location to study. I ordered the Taro Milk tea which came with boba. Waited 25 minutes for my drink to come, and it was poor. The drink had almost no flavor and the boba was average. Would not recommend coming here! Take 5 minutes to walk up the Ave and go somewhere else. Pros: - The boba was kind of warm and the texture was okay (not too chewy, but not as soft as I would like either) - Price was reasonable for 20 oz (5 dollars approx) Cons: - My drink had almost NO flavor. It was like drinking water the whole time. I had some hints of taro in the first few sips, but it faded away super quickly. - I asked for no ice but my drink had ice :((( - Waited 25 minutes for a drink. This was also during only a semi-busy time (it wasn't super crowded). This is really long compared to all the other places in UDistrict which usually take less than 10 minutes. my friend and i stumbled across this new boba cafe on our way to one of uw study centers. we were like wow and immediately noticed the beautiful interior! the place is so aesthetically pleasing with their marble tables, wooden, and lots of greenery vibes. the service was excellent! the employees are so nice and they even offered for me to request music for the aux! the honey milk tea boba was okay. it was quite generic and the prices were really good! and they gave us complementary bin bin crackers! they were really good! the lavender milk tea was really good compared to the honey milk tea! the tapioca was quite firm and hard. i can't wait to come back and try the food! it's going to be available next quarter read more

They are still in their "soft-opening" phase. Full menu is not available. i.e. food is not ready but all drinks are available. I had the macho matcha. The matcha flavor is strong which is what I enjoy but not a lot of people may. This should be included in the description as many of my friends are not. The boba/bubbles/tapioca was okay. Nothing to sing about. Will come back to try once their food options are available as this bubble tea store is closest to my job rather than walking up towards the ave. Matcha milk tea was good. I could taste the matcha and it had some bitterness to it (but still sweet). 100% sugar was good for matcha milk tea. Regular black milk tea was typical. I could see the creamer in my drink slightly starting to break though but it tasted smooth still. It's non dairy creamer so your mouth feels a bit coated in that film after drinking. I don't remember if my mouth felt that coated after drinking at other boba places that use non dairy creamer. I'll have to do a comparison later. Prices are affordable. For the large size it was 4.95 after tax. Overall it satisfied my boba craving and the drinks were good. I have read more

This was my first time trying here, and it's very nice and airy inside! They have both a 16oz and a 20oz which is great! I ordered the Lil' Lychee and asked to add lychee jelly with the regular boba, however I only got just the lychee jelly :( The drink itself is nice and light, not overly sweet! I've been trying many new boba places and the drinks are almost too sweet to drink, but this one was very refreshing. Definitely open to trying more from them. read more
