What a great find, the food is fresh and delicious. We tried the chips, salsa and guacamole. All very fresh so good. The coffee burger and smashed potatoes are a must. The chicken salad sandwich good thumbs ups from all three people that were eating them. Everyone said the sweet potatoes were the best that have ever eaten. What a wonderful spot in the middle of Texas! One of those experiences that should not be missed! The whole area should be featured in tourist magazines!We were well taken care of by everyone there although our large group arrived 5 mins late we were still accommodated. All our dietary needs and restrictions were respected and honored by our lovely server. The food was so very delicious. The kids enjoyed their food so much that we were all able to enjoy our meal. Everything we had was extremely flavorful I believe because everything is sourced right there on the farm. I ordered their coffee rubbed hamburger (made the mistake of replying to the waiter, when he asked me, that their coffee burger is good but mine is better...oops!), which comes with bread and butter pickels and creamy horseradish sause. Boss lady ordered thier chicken fried steak, which she said that it was best she's had yet. Appetizer was corn fritters with a creamy habanero dipping sauce...very delicious! I read about this place on Yelp & then checked the website out. Modern-fresh webpage mentioning the locally sourced American cuisine. (Locally sourced, I like that.) it goes on to mention it's situated in a farming community and that visitors can tour the farm and gardens. (Oh, that sounds sweet.) As we drove up, the place looks charming. Once seated, it took me a moment to realize all the woman are dressed in similar prairie style dresses with similar long, pulled back, matronly hairstyles. ALL the woman & ALL girls - even younger waitresses. Just for a second there, I felt a little creeped out - mostly because I wasn't expecting it AT ALL but also thoughts of Branch Davidians community creeped out from the recesses of my memory. Still, not fully realizing the implication, I ask for a Diet Coke when the waitress asks for our drink order. The waitress looked slightly taken back with a side of puzzlement passing over her face. She politely redirected me to the available options - Tea, lemonade or water. It's finally dawning on me that their outfits aren't just for show &, OF COURSE, in this wholesome community, they would not offer manufactured chemical trash for guests to put into their bodies. OF COURSE. Clearly, the Cafe Homestead website doesn't lean on on the 'homestead' aspect of restaurant just the new restaurant trend buzz words like locally sourced, home-made & pasture raised. (I later looked up Homestead Heritage and learned it's an agrarian & craft-based Christian community - so, very much the real deal.) The food was fresh & good. The people, all very pleasant and friendly. The surroundings site, Homestead Heritage, gorgeous. They had many buildings to visit on the grounds. A blacksmith, knit shop where someone was spinning wool into yarn, a blacksmith, a grain mill, pottery shop, fresh honey, candles, soap, etc. They also offer classes - which I'd love to attend sometime. I really had no idea. If I'd known, I would have planned for a longer stay. Outside the Homestead, there are also other shops I wish I'd had time to visit - a general store & quilt shop. So if you go, don't be caught off guard & plan to stay a for while & explore. read more

This place has excellent food! Quality meat and fresh produce and the portions were hearty. We had the corn fritters, spicy chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, along with a brazos salad. Each dish tasted fresh and home cooked, like they were all made with love. The service was outstanding, warm and personable. This place was awesome!! We came for breakfast on a Saturday and it was such a quaint establishment. Very nice and clean and it just felt like a cool homestead. The workers were awesome and super friendly. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. I recommend the breakfast burrito and I would ask what sauce they used on it bc the sauce really made it pop. My wife had toast and bacon with eggs and she was very pleased with her meal. If you check in on Yelp you get a free scoop of ice cream! The ice cream was delicious maybe not the best thing to eat during breakfast but it went great with my coffee! Hubby and I's first time back to the Cafe Homestead since their rebuild. I tried to make a reservation online, but nothing was available, so we decided to take our chances as a walk-up. We were able to get a table after an hour wait. The time went by fast since we walked across the way to do some shopping at the Barn and Gristmill. The new Cafe is simply beautiful. All of the details were made by the local artisans. We were greeted by the sweetest server with a beautiful smile. I had the chicken fried steak and Hubby the burger and fries. The food are all handmade and so good. We shared a peach cobbler a la mode with vanilla ice cream. I have to say that the food and service at the Cafe Homestead is always consistently wonderful throughout the years. The prices have risen quite a lot in the last couple of years, but still worth a trip. read more

Easily one of the best places all of us have ever been. The food was delectable and each dish we tried was mouth watering. Even the mixed vegetables put any other vegetables I've ever tasted to shame. We went for a late dinner and were able to get a table really quickly. The service was polite and everyone who worked there was welcoming. I had the chicken dumpling pot pie and I will be dreaming about it until I visit Waco again. The folks in my party had the fried chicken with gravy. The chicken and breading was delicious. Everything just tasted so fresh and flavorful, even the dinner rolls and butter were to-die-for.
