We could add on the veggie toppings ourselves. Smart to have chips since it was a couple hours service and fried foods wouldn't hold up. Dubl -R! This is original spot in Waco well known for their burgers. I wanted to see what all the fuss was all about. Stopped in a small hamburger joint. Clean and the staff is very helpful. I chose a standard cheeseburger and fries and a drink. The burger was good size the lettuce and tomatoes refresh mayonnaise and mustard and cheese and hamburger patty and the buns were fresh. My buddy had the double R burger this burger is considered to be a behemoth. He also had the fries which made it a complete lunch. I totally recommend this place. This is the absolute best burger I have ever tasted. I try to make it out once a month but I travel a lot for work. July 6th I was there and damn it was good. I walked in, sat down, my order was placed and i got to watch the guys make it hot and fresh to order. Made like I like it. See the pics. The bun was toasted to perfection, the meat was soft and tasty, my choice of veggies and mustard, mmmmm. The fries had a slight outer crisp and was soft on the inside. What a treat! My adult kids and I found this local burger joint on a recent camping trip to Waco. Throwback to the old style open grill where you can see your food being prepared, this place is definitely a neighborhood treasure. The burgers are juicy and the not too thick buns are perfectly toasted along with the crunchy grilled onions and pickles. It was the best burger I've had in a long time, for a price that rivals the big chains. The curly fries were crisp and perfectly fried. It is small with less than a dozen tables, but you can always get it to go and head over to nearby Cameron park and enjoy your burger outside. Man... this cheat meal was insanely good & definitely hit the spot! Tried the cheeseburger with grilled onions and my son had the triple meat burger believe me when I say it was worth every calorie! Wish there were still burger spots like this in Houston. Side note: the place is pretty small and the guys are putting in work on the grill pretty much right there infront of you. This landmark Waco burger joint isn't much on looks. Behind the rough exterior of this former barber shop is a hidden gem that is now the worst kept secret in Waco. It is a small building located off of Hering and 18th with very limited parking. We had to loop around twice before finally parking across the street. Inside it's small and cramped but the smell of grilling meat and the warm greetings from the staff let you know you're in the right place. My son and I have a monthly burger date with the purpose of trying out all Waco has to offer. The flat top grill and friers are just behind the counter as you enter. You can even sit at the counter and watch your food being made. We both went for the double-double (double meat/double cheese) with fries and a drink that came to around $30. Then we filled our drinks and found a table in the second room in the corner. License plates from all over adorn the walls. The wait wasn't too bad before we had our food deliver with a cheerful word and a smile. These burgers were righteous; a proper blending great ingredients and a properly seasoned flattop grill. They were juicy but not greasy and served on a well toasted bun. Fresh lettuce and tomatoes topped off my burger while my some had crispy bacon. The fries were cool just right to be fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Our only comment would be the lack of seasoning on the fries. If you don't hit them with something straight out of the frier, salt wont stick later. I haven't been to Dubl R in many years. This reminded me what I've been missing. I'm going to make the trip down Herring more often in the future. If you're looking for an authentic flattop grilled burger done really well, Dubl R will fit the bill without breaking the bank. read more

Today they were hot and fresh so I settled in to eat (I prefer not to complain about the small stuff). First things first NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER! It is in a section where it may not appeal to others when you walk in there is seating and the cash register to order. But, in the back there is not seating and a drive thru window. The place is dirty, very dirty. The bathroom had blood in one or two places. I hovered the toilet. But, the food... AMAZING. I review on the whole experience. If they just cleaned I would give 5 stars. The burgers were delicious. I love seeing all the license plates in the back dining area. Gave us something to talk about as we looked for license plates from places we have lived. Being a military family we have been to many places. It's a hole-in-the-wall dive, but man, do they make a great burger! I was in Waco and asked someone where the best burger in town was and they said the Dubl-R. It's very small, not pristine at all, but the staff is very friendly. I got in just before the lunch rush, so I was able to grab one of only a handful of booths available. I ordered a burger and fries. The griddle is right there, so it reminded me a bit of the old Saturday Night Live "Cheeseburger, cheesburger, cheeseburger" assembly line. But my first bite of that burger! It was so flavorful that it stopped me in my tracks, trying to figure out why it tasted so much better than a typical diner-style burger. I don't know the answer, but I devoured it. The fries were nice and crispy, not pale and limp. It's not fancy, it's cramped and hectic when lunch time happens...but I have thought about that hamburger a lot since my visit.
