They were open during the partial Covid reopening, and we were glad since we've enjoyed coming here in the past. They have a great menu with many appealing choices for brunch, sandwiches, espresso & baked goodies. There's a children's menu & a patio out back. It's an attractive place with friendly people. We got the Mediterranean, a tuna sandwich, and a chocolate cupcake to take to the beach. It was very good, tho the tuna was a tad saltier than it needed to be. We enjoyed our visit at Cafe Julia - there were healthy and great tasting food options for everyone, and the ability to find and equally unhealthy desert to counter balance it all. I had a soutwest type of salad - beautiful fresh ingredients. Others in the family had sandwiches, all of which looked great, and again, full of fresh ingredients. Kids picked chocolate cake for desert - I had a bite and "wow!" - it was great. The icing was a bit different, and the cake was moist and very chocolatey. I had a Wrigley Bar, which looked like gooey bird seed patty. (What can I say - I actually do love healthy food!) It was delicious and I could have eaten another. (OK - I have my weaknesses too.) Place was clean, staff was friendly and very helpful. Everyone was smiling. Lots of young kids around, so family friendly too. I've been here many times. It has gotten increasingly busier over the years and I feel It has lost some of its charm. Perfect for a coffee or pastry but today I ordered a breakfast sandwich and honestly could not finish it. What was suppose to be steak mozzarella and chimichuri, came out looking like hamburger sprinkled with red pepper flakes, no mozzarella. Cafe Julia is currently the only place in South Haven to get a decent cup of coffee, but beware that they are actually pricier than Starbucks. This review, however is for the "bar" menu. Stopped in late afternoon for a snack after a little shopping trip. 3 of us had 2 cocktails, a hot chocolate, and an Amish cheese plate for $20 bucks. The fireside cocktail is delicious and the cheese plate was very generously sized with local cheeses and an out of this world red wine mustard. They seriously should bottle the mustard. Was excited to try out this cute coffee place in South Haven,which was recommended by a good friend of mine. After waiting for quite some time, at least 15 minutes (we weren't in a hurry, after all it was supposed to be a relaxing beach day) , I went to the counter to ask the employee if there was a lavender latte coming up. She looked at me and just said, "I have no idea" in a very irritated voice. My friend and I just looked at each other in shock! Then a co-worker saw I was standing there and they told her there should have been two of the same order. I continue to wait and then she finally gets me my drink. My friend and I walk outside then that same employee comes immediately behind me holding another coffee cup and says, " You had the lavender latte?" I told her yes. She said I forgot to put the coffee and continues to take my cup, open the lid and pour the coffee in it. Again my friend and I were like, "what just happened?" This is our favorite place to have coffee in South Haven. We stop here first before going to the beach, bike riding or farmers market in the summer. It is fun sitting on the porch or deck people watching, especially on farmers market days in the summer. We have never sat inside, even or cooler days, outside is where it is at. Service is always friendly and accommodating. They have gluten free bread, and make delicious healthy sandwiches. I also appreciate/love as a side they have a cut apples on days when you want to be healthy. We have tried the salads and those have been good. Wow writing this review I am thinking about all of our fun times at cafe Julia and South Haven, we just made plans to go tomorrow even though it will be a cold fall day. The almond milk lattes and a good sandwich will warm us I am sure to get ready to walk along the water. read more

I was excited to visit this place after reading about it online but was greatly disappointed with the cleanliness and service. Shortly after arriving, I watched one of the kitchen workers drop a cup lid on the floor. Without pause, she put this lid back with the other clean ones and continued her work, which is obviously concerning. I would be surprised if this was her first time doing this. Additionally, I ordered two cold sandwiches, which I thought would be relatively quick to prepare. Unfortunately, I had to wait and stand at the counter for 35 minutes until my food was ready. Additionally, the customer service was severely lacking. I explained before placing my order that I am vegan but was served chips that were not vegan. I immediately checked the ingredient list when sitting down with my food. After seeing they were not vegan, I politely waited again in line at the counter and asked if I could exchange them for the vegan chips. They offer free wifi and do have a great selection of pastries and a small menu of sandwiches and breakfast food served until 11. I only stopped in once and got an iced coffee and a red and white breakfast burrito -- it was filled with fresh basil, eggs, havarti cheese, and salsa. I also tasted a chai milk shake which was great. The place is very quaint and homey. If you want to relax, have some coffee and check your email, definitely stop by. read more

Wildly over-priced sandwiches. I ordered a turkey with cheddar, herb mayo, and cranberry chutney (the chutney was the reason I ordered this sandwich). I received a sandwich on sliced bread with a single slice of cheese, and no chutney, for $9. I paid $9 for a regular f*ing turkey sandwich that I could have slapped together at home. It was not special, it was not interesting, and it was most certainly not a $9 sandwich. It was a cafeteria-style sandwich at airport prices. Seriously, don't bother for lunch, unless you are physically unable to put meat between bread. RIP OFF. read more

5 stars for the service and the bread, also try one of the dips (spreads) made with feta cheese and red peppers and a whole lot of other ingredients. Really good and I don't like feta. We were looking for some locally made bread. We went here and found none ready but they said they would make us a loaf if we were willing to wait for about 20 minutes. This is where the dip comes in. We ordered the bread and sat out on the front and then the rear porch where they have tables, chairs and rocking chairs and sampled the dip while we waited for the bread.
