Food was ok , but the service has changed. Not as good as it was. Servers have changed and the atmosphere is different. Sad.

After getting to Sonoma too late, we walked into this gem. They were able to give us seating at the bar last min. It was amazing to see the chef and cooks at work. The food was amazing and flavorful. This place is outstanding. We loved everything we ordered. Started with their sourdough bread and butter salad. My wife got the Dover sole and I got the risotto and shrimp. This has been our GO-To restaurant for over 20 years. While the popularity is well deserved we have had a small issue in getting a reservation. Fear not as they are adding outside tables and there May be an opportunity for walk-ins. In any event, this is a must do while in Sonoma. We had the trout, yep, when was the last time you had Mt. Lassen trout. Excellent with the truffle mashed potatoes and excellently prepared asparagus. The other dish was the mussel with pasta and sun-dried tomatoes. We topped the meal off with the superb almond cake. The waitstaff and owner are professional and exceptional. We will definitely be back and you should too. read more

Such a great place to come for dinner! The ambience is so quaint with such a small kitchen inside and a small patio outside. It's such a small home cooked meal vibe from a place with a Michelin star. We started with the French onion soup, the carpaccio, and the beet salad! All great. For entrees we got the quail, the filet, the pork chop, and the sole. Everything was so good in their own way. I would recommend each dish to anyone. For desert we got the chocolate cake and cheesecake which the cheesecake probably being my favorite. The staff was amazing especially the owner. Okay so I just have to say that tonight was a 6-star meal! Brut to start ... Gorgeous burrata with fresh beets, unexpected (& delicious) fried eggplant. Two Filet Mignons cooked to absolute perfection with a thick feta butter on top - accompanied by picturesque green beans and mushrooms with an outstanding shared glass of Syrah. Ending with a shared classic affogato with the best chocolate chip cookie ever, made by Saul himself. My God everything was simply superb. Impeccable service. Charming ownership. Warm and inviting atmosphere. It doesn't get much better in any City in any area of California and beyond. This will always be a favorite and a go-to for us. The food was decent, nothing special, and hate to admit, my husband's pork chop was watery and not very flavorful, but the mushroom soup was excellent. We had such a good dinner! First off, just have to say service was amazing. Esther was so delightful and checked in on us often. Love her! And she made sure my coffee cup was never empty. Which I needed after wine tasting. We started with the Beef Carpaccio which had fried oysters (my favorite part). I had one of the specials, the Tombo Tuna. The curry sauce was delicious! Tuna was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. I loved it! Hubs ordered the Pork Loin which wasn't as visually exciting but the flavors were definitely there. It had a sweeter sauce that went well and the gnocchi hidden beneath the chop was good. I can see how it's one of their popular dishes. And for desert my husband ordered the warm Almond cake with salted caramel ice cream, which satisfied his sweety tooth. Everything was delicious, service was great. The space is small and cozy. We really wanted to like this restaurant as we have been looking forward to visiting for many years ( we live about 2 hours away). While many of the dishes were very good, the odors wafting from the fishy deep fryer in the kitchen was a total turn off. It was so noticeable that after our meal we left our clothes outside of our hotel room on the balcony to "air out". Perhaps, we are over sensitive to the deep fryer smell, but it was hard to enjoy our meal in that atmosphere. The service was fine. Considering there were many open tables, there didn't seem to be any reason to rush us as they knew we were celebrating a special occasion. The menu is rather small but there were almost as many specials as there were on the menu. The only waitress that evening spent almost 5 minutes sharing the specials. It was very difficult for us to remember what they were. She did really well describing them and she had to go to every table and do the same. DANGEROUS during the current Delta pandemic. The tiny indoor space remains with tables jammed close together. The outdoor tables on the sidewalk are very limited and cannot be reserved ("you could have emailed me"...oh, really: no statement to that effect on either the website or OpenTable). We thought we were going to be seated outdoors, it were offered only indoors. No one wears masks, even the staff. We have visited every time we have been in wine country. Never again. read more

Sadly, I cannot say anything good about this Restaurant. We had a 7:30 reservation made 3 weeks in advance. Once arriving, the host was a snob, we were sat outside, it was 62 degrees, and the only ones outside. Female server was also a snob. We all ordered the mushroom soup, delicious, and the filets. Food arrived, kale was so salty it was inedible, potatoes were premade sometime throughout the week, reheated, and still cold, the filet was overcooked and also cold. This restaurant needs to loose the attitude and amp up food quality and their service game. The entire time I felt as if they were doing us a favor to let us dine there. Spent a delicious evening here. Joined our party in the raised seating area and were attended to by a server with excellent timing and extensive menu knowledge. I love that the menu is *very* small (do one thing but do it perfectly ya know?) so I easily chose the gem salad, and then the shrimp and butternut squash risotto. Hubby had the quail which was downright delish (but not *quite* filling). For desert we shared (ok that's a lie - I ate most of both) caramel pudding, and the affogato which I swear I would cut someone to have again right now. I was looking forward to celebrating my husband's birthday at Cafe La Haye, given all of the fantastic reviews. Unfortunately, we both agreed that the flavors were good in our dishes, but the preparations were not to our liking. We shared the beef carpaccio appetizer, which was topped with shaved parmesan, arugula, chopped olives, and two fried oysters. The beef was not as tender and "melt in your mouth" as some other places we have had this dish, but it was a good dish, overall. For our entrees, I had the pasta with meatballs and my husband had a New York steak special. I have to agree with another Yelp reviewer...the pasta was thick and heavy and could barely be called al dente. The meatballs were incredibly dense and heavy. The flavors were good, especially the sauce, but it was a heavy, heavy dish and the pasta was not pleasant to eat. My husband's steak was a 12-oz cut, but most of it seemed to be fat. He kept getting big bites of fat that he had to spit out and put back on his plate. Not the most elegant maneuver, but what are you going to do? The server did not say anything about how much of our meal was still on the plates when they were taken away. Cafe La Haye was charming and the service was pleasant, but, for us, it didn't live up to its promise. I had developed a very favorable impression of the Cafe even before I was seated. This was due to the congeniality of the staff and especially the owner's kind and accomodating manner as we were changing our reservations. Also adding to the delightful impression was the ambiance and layout of the dining room, a delicate cross of white linen formality with an unmistakable overlay of casual elegance. Coming from a large lunch, I opted for a couple of starter dishes. The mushroom and artichoke soup was scrumptious. But the big surprise came with the beef carpaccio dish, delightful with the traditional garnish of arugula, parmesan reggiano and EVOO. The dish's truly exquisite delight was it's crown of fried oysters. I initially questioned as to whether a mollusk was a suitable accompanyment to carpaccio. I'm still not convinced, but it became a moot point. The fried breaded oysters were as good as I have ever tasted, and so I could care less about proper food pairings. I just savored those oysters. The recommended Pinot Noir, a Blue Farm Estate bottling, was a bit disappointing. But this was more likely explained by the fact that this dinner wine followed several exquisite wines, including some truly outstanding Pinots, we had tasted earlier that day during our tour of Sonoma wineries. Nevertheless, the total dining experience at Cafe La Haye was the best we experienced in our week of restaurant sampling in Sonoma. read more

We had an amazing dinner here over the weekend. The food was delicious and the service was on point. We were in town celebrating a birthday and heard great things about this place. Even with COVID and the tables being set up on the sidewalk there is still good ambiance and it is cozy. We had the pork chop with truffle polenta and spinach and the king salmon with black rice and asparagus. The pork chop was flavorful and juicy and probably the best pork chop I have ever had! The salmon was cooked perfectly - the skin was crispy and the fish was moist and flakey. We had the yuzu cheesecake which was creamy, citrusy and delicious and the butterscotch pudding which was tasty. Great selection of wines and overall one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Our dessert came out with a black hair on it...once we pointed it out and they took it away, their response was offering to bring us a new piece, which was pointless as we were grossed out and just wanted to leave the dining room. We refused any dessert and their response was they were sorry that happened and they were gracious to not make us pay for the cheesecake we never ate. I would expect more...my whole meal should have been comped or at least a discount from the meal. Human hair served on food delivered is not acceptable. read more
